Reborn into a world of brutal fights, Johnny vowed to work hard and push himself to the limit.
After a rough start, he befriended the lovely, undefeated catgirl Fearless Freddie. They worked hard, supporting each other every step of the way, and eventually developed deep feelings for each other.
Now engaged, Johnny and Freddie face the future with total commitment. Every obstacle they overcome strengthens their chances of achieving their dreams.
As summer fades into autumn, Freddie’s sister begins training alongside them. Lennie hates running and grumbles about their predawn optimism, but the talented kickboxer also unlocks a secret weapon for Johnny and Freddie.
Then, with the city championships approaching, a new and powerful threat emerges.
Meanwhile, big questions loom over the young lovers.
Can Johnny battle his way from prospect to contender?
What’s up with Johnny’s quirky next-door-neighbor, the shy mouse-maid Millie?
Can Freddie heal her father?
Why has the mysterious Exhibitionist taken an interest in Johnny?
And what the heck is twinning?
Warning: This slice-of-life gamelit story contains adult themes, slow burn harem, and graphic violence.
We’ve done the amateur championships. We’ve gotten married and the future is looking bright! There’s not much tension in this wonderful monster of a book but man o day is there heart!!! There’s character development galore, some slice o life to make schinhofen jealous and fight scenes that bring boxing from the tv to the mind. Read this book and feel your pulse race!!
There is so much about boxing. Not just punching, the whole thing: footwork, angles, strategy, everything. I do not watch boxing, but now I kinda want to. I want to see if I can recognize the concepts, the counter-punching, the ‘pocket’.
Honestly, you could take the harem out and it would still be an amazing book.
This series is extremely entertaining as I can picture the fights as they are described. You can practically hear the sound of the gloves popping as smash those body shots. Overall I enjoyed this book a great deal and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
This continues directly from book one, and is another great read. I'm not a boxing fan, but the author manages to make it interesting enough that I didn't skim any of the details and strategy. If you liked the first book you'll like this. If you haven't read the first one, get on that.
I really good addition to the series. I do love books and movies that deal with something people are passionate about. It doesn't matter what it is: writing, sports, birding, chess. It is the passion behind those activities that makes it so interesting. This book has that. I am not much of a boxing fan but I could tell the MC really loves it. There is so much technical detail about being a boxer that shows he has passion for the sport which in turn comes across while reading making it that much more enjoyable. The author doesn't just write about boxing and being a champion. He takes the reader on a journey through the fine detail work. There is also a slow burn harem but that slow burn works with with the characters and what the author has done with the story. Overall a very good series so far.
Another Knock-out! If you loved book 1 than you will find all that heart and struggle here as well. This book starts a few short weeks after book 1 and is a smooth continuation of the narrative. The only real difference here is that now I know Hondo can write like this, it's less of a shock. Oh and there is more sex. Mr. Jinx did get a wee bit carried away with the goodness of johnny, becoming messianic at a point, but that didn't spoil the book no matter how awkward the scene was. This book is pretty damn good.
I've read most of Hondo Jinx's books to date and typically find them to be 3, 4, and occasionally 5-star books. Typically, they have good concepts, 'Alpha Male' main characters, and issues with the pacing, specifically I find his series rush the last few chapters (Gold Glory and Girls, and Power Mage are both guilty of this 'ended abruptly' issue)
This series is the first set that I wish I could rate at 6-star and 5-stars (the first and second book respectivly).
The books so far focus mainly on the rise and carrier of a boxer who, through an odd series of events was In the case of this story, the main character is a boxer, in a 1950s 'ish' (they have cat/dog/fox people and some modern technologies) place called Fight Town.
While this somewhat wild plot twist had me going 'okaaaay' at first, it very quickly becomes secondary to the main focuses of these books. Which in no particular order are fighting (boxing and kickboxing), romance, and building some type of life with the hand you are dealt.
The plot is (with the odd twist aside) nothing really new and the goals and scope of the book are very much a 'save the neighborhood' type story as opposed to 'save the world'. However, in the context of the story, this makes sense.
What truly earns my praises, is the way that Mr.Jinx has managed to weave together both the concepts of romance and true character intimacy, with the idea of a harem of females (a concept that is usually focused much more on sex than any real intimacy or love).
An author being able to create a set of characters that seem truly loving to one another is rare. An author being able to do this with a growing harem, more so. Having it be believable... I can count the number of books that manage this on my fingers and have a few leftover (and I read ALOT).
Book 1, is in my opinion, better than book 2. However, this is due more to how good book 1 one as opposed to any kind of fault with book 2.
The one gripe I have about book 2 is
My gripe here is not about the physicality of what was depicted as happening, but at the idea that there is some kind of 'official line' to the whole situation that makes it 'ok'. Or that it's ok because of the alluded to future. Put another way, the events in question are stated as being "fine to happen" because some nebulous official relationship that (one would guess has a set date in the future?) hasn't been reached yet. But the underlying rationale that makes it "fine to happen" to the reader is the understanding that everyone will be together at some future date... This juxtaposition in logic is not only bad writing, it is out of place with both the tone, setting, and pace of the story and detracts from an otherwise excellent book.
As a side note: Admittedly this is a minor issue, and I would ask that anyone using this review to decide if they will read this book, understand that the verbiage dedicated to it, is a reflection of my attempt to properly explain the issue I had with this point, and not a reflection of how serious the point was, it sucks, but it's not a deal-breaker for me continuing this series.
In conclusion, this series has some flaws, and I hope that in the future the author moves away from the out-of-place elements to instead focus on the core. This series is good and it has the potential to be great. Assuming Mr.Jinx can stay focused on the core tone and setting, while still weaving the romantic elements within that tone, pace, and setting.
In book one of this series we had Johnny, Freddy, and Lennie, and it was about training, fighting, falling in love, and more training. That's pretty much it.
Now we're in book 2, and the author decided that instead of keeping it clean, he's going to double down. There are no explicit scenes, but a lot is implied, and a some more people are involved than just Freddy.
Let me back up a bit. Now that Johnny has a winning record, their manager Marvella decides it's time for Freddy and Johnny to get a manager. They go with Trongo, who admittedly does more than the other managers out there, but still has a slimy feeling.
Behind the scenes, Johnny is gaining points to increase his power, agility, chin and other stats, some of them to the highest ever scene.
While all the training is going on, Johnny and Freddy are planning their wedding, with the promise that after the wedding that Johnny and her sister Lennie will start courting.
Despite my disappointment in straying away from a clean series, I still enjoyed book 2. It's a solid entry that has enough happening to keep me reading. There are a few side stories that add to the flavor of Fight City, and it all comes together at the wedding.
This isn't my favorite Hondo series, but I'll still give is 4/5*. I just wished it had stayed clean.
Another beautiful book in this amazing series. The romance of these books is seriously the best in the genre, the amount of love shown is immense, and allows the character's relationships to build naturally. The amount of sex or sexually charged scenes was a little lower than I'd prefer, the scenes themselves were excellently brought to life, though I wish they lasted a little longer. As with the first book, the fighting and training scenes were overloaded with jargon so that I, someone with no experience with or knowledge of boxing, felt like my eyes were glazing over during those scenes because I couldn't reliably figure out what was happening. Contrasted with the Kickboxing scene, which held no jargon and was much easier to follow.
This was an amazing book, the wait for which was agonising, which has me chomping at the bit for the next.
I hate the fact that I have to wait for fight town 3 to come out in probably 3 months time again. I loved loved loved the first book. I found it so incredibly entertaining with the LitRPG elements included with the sport of boxing. It’s unorthodox but so incredibly good. I pre-ordered the second book the moment it was announced and did not want to read it instantly because I knew I would once again need more after I was done reading it. Lo and behold, I was right. The second book kicked bums. Literally. I was so entertained reading it and loved this book so darn much. I did hope that it would have maybe more explicit scenes (in detail) but I was satisfied none the less. The characters feel real. The MC is a sweet soul. I loved it. Hondo if you ever read this, I’m gonna have to politely ask you to spend another 15 or however many days writing the 3rd addition to the series, because the series is cracked. Love it so much, i do. Also make sure its as long as this one. Maybe even longer. Don’t care if you have to trade your soul to do it. Much love from Australia!
The story of Johnny and Freddie continues and it’s great to see. So many emotional moments in this story that I kept tissues handy throughout the entire reading. I want to talk about everything but then that’d deprive you of an amazing story. Here’s a suggestion though: grab the entire rocky soundtrack and just play it in the background. It’ll come in handy. I don’t know much about boxing but I don’t care. This is a story about getting to the top and all its struggles and victories. As a fair critique, too many chapters begin with James Bond Double entredre scenes . It’s a great joke the first couple times but it did get a little old in my opinion. Considering that’s the worst I could come up with, what are you waiting for? Go read this already!
Fantasy LitRPG cultivation harem adult situations catgirls monster girls Hondo Jinx does it again with this follow-up to his book in this amazing series, Fight Town: Inspiration. The sheer enthusiasm bleeds through each page. His love of the sport is contagious, pure and simple. I don't expect I will seek to watch a boxing match, yet I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the commitment of Johnny Rockledge, Freddie Lopez, and her twin sister Lennie to their respective sport and each other; the surprise of Millie; and so much more.
Not wanting to spoil the story, there's plenty to enjoy here, a few more insider nods to other writers. If you haven't read the first book, stop depriving yourself; buy both books and read it, then read this one, too.
I’ve read every book published by Hondo Jinx. When he releases a book, it moves immediately to the top of my “to be read” list. This series is by far my favorite.
I’m a boxing fan, in that I’ve seen the “Rocky” movies, and used to watch the big heavyweight matches of Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and the like. Which is to say I’m really not a huge fan of the “sweet science,” more a passing observer.
But that hasn’t lessened this series to me at all, in fact it makes it much richer. I love the characters, the dialogue, and the training.
Look, what I’m trying to say is READ THIS SERIES!
And to Hondo Jinx, thank you for writing these amazing books. I eagerly await further installments. I hope the story goes on and on. One last thing…write faster! I need to know what Millie will look like in her new uniform!
Man was I excited to see this book finally pop into my Kindle list. Look fight town may not be some epic masterpiece but it's no total vapid one a month series either. Hondo, seriously these books just make you FEEL good. Which is more rare in harem series than you think. I liken it to a less complex experience but no less gratifying similar to say what schinhofen's books do like binding words or aether's revival (also nice reference there Hondo. Now I want a shop run by yuki to visit lol) I meant to space out book two but instead my day was nothing but reading before I even knew it. Not too short a good long sit while making me hate that I have to wait for book 3 already lol. Great job Hondo this was wonderful .
Book 2 is just like book 1: a wholesome story about two people coming together for the sport they love and uniting the community they live in. It’s also strikes an incredible balance between it’s slice of life moments and the high tension of the fights.
What’s better, Johnny now has some experience under his belt so gone is the awkwardness of trying to adapt to a new world and a new sport, and the story begins at full swing from the start.
And in last but not least, “The Riders” are back, this time not as a threat that might drop him, but as one of the players on Johnny’s side, helping push him along. I’d even go so far as call them the MVPs of this book.
Former silver gloves in my youth, and huge boxing fan myself. This book series is amazing so far, even excluding the sex or harem aspects(which are minimal) it's an amazing series! Hondo does a good job of breaking down everything for non-boxing fans as well, which in itself is hard to do for any author. The characters are well developed, the strong sense of community in the story, the ethos of strong work and commitment speaks to the readers. Hard work and perseverance are things missing not just in stories, but in society in general. I would really like to see an animated series based on these books, not kidding! Keep it up, a lot of authors could learn from you.
Although I'm not into boxing, this story was amazing. Hondo Jinx you have created a wonderful piece of literature. Your depth and emotional portrayal was orchestrated masterfully. From a woman's perspective this story truly grabbed at me, especially since this is considered a haremLit story. It was a slow burn romance which in my humble opinion gave the characters substance and highlighted the work and dedication required within any meaningful relationship. I won't put any spoilers in here, but this series gets better and better. There were some touching scenes that made me cry and your narrators did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and also portraying pure emotion. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to the next book
I was looking for a good book and man I found it with this one. The characters have so much depth. They could be the guy next door. Early in the story I felt like a “rider”. Then the hits just kept coming and I was happy to eat every one. Read books one and two back to back. I just could not put them down… At one point 0230 in the morning the wife rolled over and said my tablet was to bright….I but on dark mode and kept the pages turning. I am a reader. Thank you to all the writers that made this book happen. I am upset that I over looked it for several weeks. Going to look back at the wrangler and give it a try Dan the Barbarian was good.
Seems that every time I see a new offering from this author I think “Hmm…is this even something I’d enjoy reading?” Until I actually start reading it, that is. Then I tear through the book, and start looking for the next installment.
Fight town fit this pattern to a tee; NOT a fan of boxing. At all. But fight town is about so much more than that. There are SO many things going on with the cast, each one is riveting in its own right. Just an incredibly interesting tale. Reading them through KU, but Fight Town is now on the list of books I want to purchase; it’s just that good.
Got this book at midnight and thought I'd read a little before bed; nope. Now I'm exhausted at work after staying up all night to finish it but still feel excited about the story. The excitement of the boxing, the deep emotional connection between the characters and the dramatic moments that both inspired and frustrated me as a reader kept me captivated from beginning to end. The slow build-up in the relationship is great and I wish I could see more of this from other authors in the genre. Now I need to somehow gain the patience for book 3's release.... Ugh.
Apart from Dan the B, I seem to spend my life waiting for HJ to write books, to date I have read everything he's written and had to wait for most of them. When Fight Town first came out I was very dubious but because of my history with HJ I gave it a try and it was brilliant, I am not in any way interested in boxing and did not expect to go beyond the sample, how wrong I was, regardless of the subject matter the story telling is excellent. Book two is just as good and now i'm back to waiting, still its well worth it, keep up the good work.
Not realising this was book 2 It took me a while to pick up the storyline as I didn’t have the backstory. It was only reading the dedication that I realised my mistake. Thoroughly enjoyed the book, but probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read book one first as a lot of the time I was wondering what was going on. The build up to the championship was really good, not really a fan of boxing, but I do watch the occasional UFC fight card if there is an interesting fight on it.
A good grounded story with minor lit rpg elements. The characters are very believable and the voice acting helps with bringing them to life. The main guy is a bit of a Gary Stu though, at least compared to the other characters that surround him. He's tough and will go the distance for people but super super normal. He kinda just swaps between painfully horny dude and a Philly-based motivational speaker. It's fine though because the rest of the supporting cast is top tier.
I don't have the words to describe how amazing this series is. I've read every book Hondo has written but this just blows it all out of the water. The relationship building between the characters, the strategy and thought process before each match, and that drive to push through any and all adversity is what drives this book to new heights. I loved every second of this book and can't wait for number 3.
I have to say that I was late to the game with FT1, finding it thru a Facebook group. I dropped thru one and instantly pre-ordered FT2. This book was so good, I almost got in trouble at work because I couldn't put it down. The chemistry of all the characters, the way you describe the fights, there's nothing in this book that I dislike. Well done sir, and I can't wait for 3 to come out
This series continues to be as much a love letter to boxing as it does the women involved in the MC's life. While it's a much slower pace than Hondo's other works, it fits with how Johnny is developing his relationships. It isn't just throw down with every available woman, but rather building relationships with them and making a life going forward. Really looking forward to where things from here.
This is a fantastic sequel. It immediately drew me in and held my attention. The level of research was apparent in the wonderfully described training and fight scenes. The author clearly has a good understanding of boxing and while I don't follow the sport personally, that level of knowledge gave the book a very gritty and believable feel. Combined with the romance aspect this made for a solid hit of a story. I can't wait to read the next installment.
Fantastic read. I average at least one book per week and this is the best one yet. Clearly defined characters and not too many that you forget who is who. The characters were great. The story line was unique and extremely well written. I really enjoyed how the characters progressed. Sometimes the intimate scenes are too descriptive, but in here they were just right. PLEASE write right club 3!!!!!!!
Have been a big fan of this author from his first book. And each one just gets better and better each time. This is hands down my favorite series from this author and as a boxer and martial artist every thing he covers and speaks about is true. Hard work beats natural talent when natural talent doesn’t work hard. Hope for several more books in this series because I really want to find out what happens next.
I don't generally write reviews, nor do I throw 5 stars around "willie nilly". This book earned every star. Honestly I started reading this series with very little interest in boxing, but the narrative is so strong that I now see it in a whole new light. I am only sad that I will definitely have to wait for the next installment. This book was even better than the first in the series. Which in itself was a tall order.
