Jeremy Ray gifts his newsletter subscribers with a tiny little story each week. They're called micro-stories, or flash fiction. A tiny tale the length of 2 tweets. Little Book of Tiny Tales (Volume 1) is a collection of 56 micro-stories that span a wide variety of genres, ranging from horror to pure sweetness to grief and much more. Each one has a small paragraph explaining the inspiration behind it, which was my favorite part of this collection.

Little Book of Tiny Tales left me with many favorites, but my top was Once in a Lifetime (which deals with end of life), closely followed by The Power of Belief (which deals with... well you just have to read it!). I also loved Old Auntie May's Groceries, Limited Options and Moment of Peace. I highly recommend this collection of lightening quick reads that make passing the time incredibly entertaining.

Little Book of Tiny Tales is a collection of micro-stories written by Jeremy Ray: they are very short, but they all deliver! Before each story, the author explains in a couple of lines where he found the inspiration or the feedback he received from his readers. These stories in fact where micro-presents that the author previously sent in his newsletter. This collection is really good, some stories have the potential to become novellas, and I overall really enjoyed it.
A quick read, beautiful!

I have been a fan of Jeremy’s since I found him on social media a while ago and have not found another writer who can switch between genres with the ease and skill that he uses. I was so happy to find that he’d finally collated his brilliant microfictions in one collection which, although extremely short, have boundless worlds of plots and characters.
I particularly loved ‘Belle of the Ball’; which has the feeling of a gothic ghost story and ‘Evil eyes’; which feels like a thriller film I cannot wait to watch. The most striking thing about the collection is that you can turn a page and the tone switches from horror to humour like in ‘Brock Hudson’; which is simply comedy genius in my humble opinion.
As a fan I appreciated the nod to his other stories within the volume and hope that it gives new readers a little insight to his previous fiction such as 'Petrified women' and 'The houseplant'. I cannot wait to see what he produces next and fingers crossed for another installment of Tiny Tales!

This and Jeremy Ray’s other stories are available on Kindle Unlimited, and Amazon

At the beginning of every Jeremy Ray book, or at least every one I’ve read, he includes a micro story to set the stage for the main story. This book is a collection of his micro stories some have been included in his books, most were new to me. Micro stories are very interesting to me because you have to build the same feelings you would in a longer story, but you only have a few sentences to do it. I’ve enjoyed every story by Jeremy I’ve read, but I really enjoyed this one in particular. Along with each story was a picture and a short commentary, or explanation to accompany it. It made this book feel extremely personal because it was like he was setting up each story for you himself. I liked every story in this collection and I couldn’t narrow my favorites list to just a few so I just marked every story that happened to appeal to me just a little more then the rest:

* Belle of the ball
* The award
* Zedan women
* Wound up
* Not a witch
* In my dreams
* Honestman (this one really made me laugh because my mom and I joke around about ‘shitty superpowers’ all the time)
* Moment of peace
* LoveofmyLIFE (this one and its sequel gave me deadly attraction/stalker vibes 😂)

The stories varied in genre and it was fun to see the versatility he has as an author. I liked revisiting stories I’d already read, and reading new ones especially getting to hear the thoughts behind the story, when and how he came up with them, and how he feels about his stories and characters. I can’t wait to read what stories he comes up with in the future.

I am a huge fan of Jeremy Ray, he is one of those authors that I would read everything that he writes. I like his mind, the way he thinks and how he translates that into words. Little Book of Tiny Tales Vol 1 is a collection of 56 micro stories, which I have been a fan of for a long time now. So I was excited about reading this collection, and since it’s Volume 1, I am hoping that this suggests there will be many more volumes to comes. The topics range from creepy and horror, to sweetness that leaves you with a smile on your face, while others made you think and packing quite the lunch. Each one begins with a little explanation as to what inspired the story, which I enjoyed. They are just beautifully written, and the talent of this man and what he can do in such a small amount of words is impressive.

‘They say being buried alive is the scariest thing.  No. It’s being trapped in your own body,  having your parents squeezing your hand,  praying to a God they don’t believe in —  not knowing you’re in there trying to respond.’

Reading Little Book of Tiny Tales made me think about the chocolate fancy hotels leave on your pillow as part of their turn down service. Instead of reading from start to finish, I read one or two micro stories each night before bed. Savoring and ruminating on each little story like fine chocolate as I drifted off into sleep.

Jermey Ray’s Little Book of Tiny Tales is an anthology of fifty-six micro stories. Coming in at under 100 words each, the importance of the size of the story in the word count matters. Even though each of these stories were little snippets into the lives of the characters, they all expertly elicited some kind of an emotional response - which is what all readers crave.

I enjoyed all of these little tales, but these are a few of my favorite emotional responses:

The Head Witch of Witch Manor - Vindication

The Bookmark - Heartache

Once in a Lifetime - Peace

Mrs. Pembleton Murders - ambivalence

BROCK HUDSON was in MY KITCHEN! - Relief

If you haven’t checked out Jeremy Ray’s work yet, I highly recommend you do.

Thank you to Jeremy Ray for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Jeremy for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is full of microstories, which are 100-word stories. I loved this concept because it was interesting to see how much one could get from just 100 words. There were some that worked and some that didn't but I enjoyed the whole collection overall. My favorites were: "Belle of the Ball", "Zedan Women", "Murder Room", "Love at First Sight", "Burn This Note!", "Cleaning Duties", "Milk Carton", "The Gift of the Only Ones," among many others. There were so many good ones and I tended to gravitate towards the darker-themed ones but there were some funny ones and some none dark ones as well. I laughed so much at the 2 Brock Hudson stories and I especially loved the diss in "The Head Witch of Witch Manor"

Each story was accompanied by a little "about the story" section before each microstory. I liked this but I thought the about section would have been better after each story rather than before. Some of them gave insight into what Jeremy meant by the story and some just explained where his mindset was at the time of writing. Because some of them gave interpretations of the stories, I think they would have been better after the story so the reader could go into the micro-story with open eyes and experience it raw, creating their own interpretation. After that, they can read the about section and see what Jeremy's thoughts were and then choose to reread it with his thoughts in mind or not. That’s a personal choice for me though and doesn’t really have any baring on the story because you can choose to read it before or after or not at all. Plus on the other hand, the about section kind of acts as a “content warning” in itself because some explain that what you’re about to read is meant to make you uncomfortable, relates/reminds him of this/that, etc. so again before or after doesn’t really matter, just my thoughts. Haha. All That being said, I did enjoy seeing into Jeremy's mind how he came up with each story and all that.

Overall a quick and unique reading experience. Highly recommend checking this out.

I read this as a live buddy read with a friend, meaning we texted back and forth and talked about the stories that stood out to us (good or bad). It was a lot of fun and I highly recommend trying this sometime.

Jeremy includes content warnings for some of the microstories but there are some that should have had a content warning but didn't, such as "Jim the Cockatoo" which involved animal death

content warning: suicide, sexual assault, animal death, murder and death, grief

I admire authors who can convey a lot with very few words. These are micro stories, less than 50 words each. But they were all satisfying. For each story he gives tidbits on the background and the inspiration, which are equally interesting.
A promising author - adding to my TBR.

Since starting this journey, I've developed a couple of healthy obsessions. One of those obsessions is reading intense flash fiction pieces alongside my full reads! "Little Book Of Tiny Tales" by Jeremy Ray is a collection of itty bitty stories that pack a huge punch! Jeremy creates the same energy we typically get when reading a full novel, in SECONDS! Detailed characters with whole back stories, intricate settings, you name it, Jeremy masters it. I found myself wanting novellas of quite a few of the minis contained in this book! Aside from reading, the cover art by Lance Buckley is on point! It's simple yet gives off a cryptic appearance to make you feel like you're reading some sort of artifact or something and easily adds to the experience! To top it all off, this book can be read in one very quick sitting! Finally, this is only volume 1, so if you love this read as much as I do, we may be getting a second!Fingers crossed!

An e-copy of the book has been provided by the author, Jeremy Ray, in exchange for an honest review.

If you have been here for long, you will know that I am not much of a re-reader. I enjoy reading books again; but, given the choice, I would much rather pick something else and get the chance to find a new gem. However, Jeremy Ray‘s work is easily one of the very few books that I am willing to pick up again (especially The House Plant). A huge part of it is because they are short. Most importantly, though, is the way he writes. His writing calms me down and I really get into a trance while reading it. I really am grateful to have discovered him this year!

Little Book of Tiny Tales is pretty much self-explanatory. The book is a collection of “tiny tales” but they are not just short-stories, they are flash fiction. The abruptness of these stories might make you think that there would not be anything special about them. On the contrary, that abrupt nature will shock you. Each story is poetic and brings you into a wonderful lullaby. Albeit dark, I found myself lost in the stories and having the desire to read it all over again and relive the moments. Possibly appreciate them more than my first reading.

In this collection, you will see the very foundation of a good writing. The experimental nature of the writing in following random premises, a dream, or that mysterious cold touch on your shoulder that tells you to share a certain kind of story makes the book perfectly splendid. If not for the difficulty of obtaining a physical copy of his works, I would have, without even blinking, bought any book Jeremy Ray releases.

There is a wonderful allure to this collection that really calls out to me. I highly recommend everyone to read it, or any of Jeremy Ray‘s published works for that matter. You might not enjoy every single flash fiction in this contained stories, but there will for sure be one that calls to heart. Perhaps you will even give it another go and have a renewed vision of those that you did not particularly enjoy. I have said it and I will say it again, Jeremy Ray writes well and I am here waiting for him to write a full novel.

I became a huge fan of Jeremy Ray when he sent me The House Plant, which remains one of my top 10 books I’ve ever read.

The Little Book of Tiny Tales Volume 1 is a collection of 56 micro stories. Each story is the length of two tweets, which astounds me he can tell a story in so few characters. Before each micro story, Jeremy describes the inspiration behind it, which I feel adds even more to the micro story itself. Jeremy describes his book as “a flash fiction anthology that is like a box of assorted chocolates with story pieces meant for those ready to experience their stories in bite-size pleasures” and this could not be a more accurate statement.

I liked each and every one of the stories in this collection, but I loved the following “A Bookmark”, “Blink”, “Apple Pie”, “Cleaning Duties”, “Old Auntie May’s Groceries”, “Limited Options”, “Admitted”, “The Gift of the Only Ones”, “Heads or Tails”, and “In My Dreams”. They may be tiny tales, but they are mighty. The range of emotions you feel as you read through each story will leave your head spinning. The creativity and thought provoking questions are outstanding. I can’t wait for more micro stories. Thank you Jeremy Ray for allowing me to read your book in exchange for this review.

If you are looking for a short and easy book to read, this one is for you. Little Book of Tiny Tales is an anthology of flash fiction. It has 56 micro tales of less than hundred words. I flew through the book in an hour. It was really fun to read. I loved the way the stories were structured so there was a punch in the end.

Some of the stories had characters which appeared in the latter micro tales as well. It was like savouring a variety of genres and characters all at once. I'm a huge fan of Jeremy Ray ever since I read The House Plant and I always look forward to his new books.

This book will give you the spooks, the tears and everything in between. Pick this up when you have a short break with a cup of coffee and you are set.

Micro-fiction? Is that even a thing? Well, after perusing Mr. Ray's offerings, call me a convert.

Taking minimalism to the max, these tiny packages nonetheless contain your USDA-recommended daily allowance of poignancy, laughs, mystery, and horror. My three faves are "Blink," "Burn This Note!" and "Brock Hudson Was in My Kitchen!"

Jeremy Ray's LITTLE BOOK OF TINY TALES is packed with 50+ micro-stories. These micro-stories are quick, bite-sized, and pack a punch. I can see so many of these expanded into full short stories/novellas/books if that was ever a route chosen. Before every tiny tale, Ray includes a 1-3 sentence explanation about what we are about to read, its inspirations, etc. I really enjoyed this collection and Ray definitely has a flare for creating content that is unique, strong, and entertaining. Looking forward to more Volumes of Tiny Tales!

Oh wow! This has become one of my favorite anthologies. It was such a blast reading each story. Despite being micro-stories, they still evoked such powerful emotions out of me. I laughed and grieved and got scared along with the characters. Whether it be comedy or horror, I became fully immersed and just wanted to savor each and every word. The stories felt very atmospheric and homey, and that’s when I know I am reading quality literature. I also love that the stories aren’t written in just one genre. I assure you that you’ll find something to love no matter how
singular your tastes are or how much of a picky reader you are. And, of course, Jeremy Ray’s writing is immaculate as always. He has a talent of weaving words together flawlessly to create such depth to his stories. His ability to write in different genres is amazing. What a talent!

I have quite a lot of favorites but a few are: The Planet and the Star, Belle of the Ball, Little Hero in the Woods, Song of the Maze, Cleaning Duties, and Dog Treats.

Thank you Jeremy for the ARC copy! I’m so excited to read more from you ☺️

What can I possibly say for this book?? Let me start by saying that I completely fell in love with it! I had previously read Houseplant, The Gatherings and Petrified Women by the same author, so I knew he was a wonderful, brilliant writer! But this book even more so shows just how very talented he is!!! To be able with only a few lines bring forth a story, a character and have it be packed with emotion no less its truly astounding!!!
It's a definite MUST READ for me and one of the best books I read this year!!! Looking forward to read more by this author!

Genre: Hybrid mix of awesomeness ? 😅
My Rating : 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 (5/5)

How do I begin to tell you how splendid this read is❤️

“A warm mug of yummy hot chocolate topped with most exquisite marshmallows on the coldest winter night” wouldn’t be a justifiable analogy, because I loved it so damn much 😊

This book is a collection of tiny micro tales, a flash fiction anthology of 56 tales in varying genres, from horror to contemporary to sweetest innocent romance to drama to heartbreaks and every amazing thing one could think of. And all stories are preceded by tiny anecdotes, narrating the inspiration behind each one.

Some were heartwarming, some sweet, few terrifying, few a bit spooky, some gloomy yet all amazing tiny pockets of absolute delight. With concepts so unique and each tales power packed with so much depth and passion, the author has given us yet another captivating and most brilliant quick read.

So, what made this so special?

Anecdotes that inspired each story gave the readers a personal connection with the author, a tiny wonderful personal touch. Each story was so marvelous, and would leave us wanting for more, and in some cases, we were really granted more. Not all the stories held to my ‘top favorite’ threshold, but guess what, those which didn’t wow me, the author pre-warned us that, “Hey, you might not like it, still I am putting it here”.

I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite micro tale; they all were so amazingly delicious. I feel like I popped this little bubble wrap sheet, which was thoroughly satisfying, but I really really really want more! Super glad it is volume 1, and that notion of ‘more is to come’ is rewarding 😊

Trust me, you all are definitely going to love this one. 😊

I have received the ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review – a huge thank you!

Genres: horror, crime, thriller, contemporary
Format: flash fiction (super short stories)
4.5 stars 😊

Good flash fiction has always impressed me with the power of a talented AND skilled author to conjure such impact with so few words. And whilst not every story in this collection has had an equal effect on me, quite a number of them left me awed at Jeremy Ray’s literary craftsmanship.

A few of my favourite ones:

Pious Prince – has one of the best lines I’ve read this year: “he died of food poisoning (the food was fine, the poison wasn’t)” 🤣

Dog Treats – beautiful. Jeremy can do utterly creepy horror, but he also writes a heart-warmer with an enviable ease.

Milk Carton – creepy as hell. Made me root so hard for that detective! Can we please, please have a sequel where she succeeds?? Please…

The Plan is just fantastic. I’m an absolute fan of Mrs Pembleton👵. I also loved the form, it read like a poem (and a very creepy one).

The Award was heart-breaking, but it also made me laugh with the last line.

Burn This Note… normally it would be just sad and you would pity the parents. BUT. It made me think of Gypsy Rose and other feelings came into the mix.

Evil Eyes – horror at its best. Scary.

Moment of Peace – another perfect one. I actually enjoyed it more than the Limited Options, to which it is a sequel. Every sentence in it is flawless and necessary. Not one word is redundant. And it packs a powerful punch. The best in the collection.🔪🍷

When I realised I got to the end of the book, I went NOOO! I want more! I do hope Jeremy keeps on writing these, they’re truly amazing!

Jeremy Ray is truly a talented writer and Little Book of Tiny Tales is proof of that. This anthology of micro-stories spans several genres. Jeremy weaves from heartwarming to heartbreaking, happy to creepy and everything in between. If you think a story told in less than 560 characters can't have as big of an impact as a 500 page novel, I think Little Book of Tiny Tales will change your mind. I recommend this book to any reader. It's a quick read and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Tiny Tales is a short story collection that makes you step back and think about each work that you read. I thought they were clever, emotional, sometimes spooky, sometimes eerie, always impactful. I loved that before each tale, the author added a small comment about the story. His inspiration, his thoughts, something about it. I thought that was a wonderful addition!

I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

I have always been fascinated by the micro stories that Jeremy writes. In my opinion it takes major skill to elicit the strong emotions he does from such tiny tales. Many of you know my burning love for Jeremy’s writing and I just hope it comes across genuine in my reviews as it truly is in my heart and mind. I’ve always wanted him to put his micro stories together in an anthology. I’m glad he did. I’m so excited that this is titled Volume One! That hopefully means more volumes to come. Some of these stories I am familiar with from his Instagram and other works and others I’m not. I truly enjoyed every one of them though. I can’t say one is my favorite because each one has something I love. With some I laughed, others brought tears to my eyes, and then there were ones that just plain creeped me out. Once again, that’s what makes these tiny tales so wonderful; the emotions you feel from so few words. I love that Jeremy gives you a little backstory of how the stories came about. Jeremy I wish you continued success and hope to read your work for many, many, many, many, years to come! It’s an honor to read your amazing work!

Little Book of Tiny Tales - 4.5/5
By Jeremy Ray

“WHEN HE DIED OF FOOD POISONING (THE FOOD WAS FINE, THE POISON WASN’T).”
This is literally one of the best sentences I have ever read in my life and I am not entirely sure why, but it made me laugh a lot.

This was a brilliant collection of tiny tales - and I loved every single word of it! My favourite was definitely LITTLE HERO IN THE WOODS. My dogs are my world - and I feel it accurately describes how loyal and loving dogs are. It just made me super happy!

My favourite stories from this book are below:

5. Belle of the Ball
6. Little Hero in the Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️
8. Cleaning Duties
26. Milk Carton
29. Not a Witch
31. Old Auntie May’s Groceries
36. The Gift of the Only Ones
44. The Power of Belief
54. A Lonely Haunting
56. Moment of Peace

Another amazing piece of work by Jeremy Ray. Or I should say multiple pieces of work.

This was a genious idea, to put a collection of micro stories into a book that I downloaded and devoured in one sitting.

I say this over and over again when I read Jeremy's work but honestly he is so talented. These micro stories are only a few lines each but they pack so much emotion and depth in the writing it's seriously amazing!

I couldn't possibly choose a favourite as they are all incredible. Though I will mention that 'In My Dreams' really had me tear up :(

Honestly remarkable writing by Jeremy and I can't wait to see what else he has in store for us to read.

Definitely another one I'll recommend to everybody I know.

This little book of tiny tales is quite simply wonderful! There is something for everyone. I love the that the author talks about the inspiration behind each micro story. This really helps the reader to get in mindset. A few stories some may find triggering.
Don't let that put you off. I would say my favourite but I would end up listening all. Dolly and her sister take sibling rivalry to a whole new level, Zedra....no man should mess with her! Little Elise and her voice..I am going to stop now... I honestly cannot recommend this author enough.

I received another book by @jeremyraystories . It's a collection of micro stories called Little Book of Tiny Tales Volume 1.

The book contains 56 micro stories with an introduction page to each story. It also has a photo with each explanation and these pictures are itself a treat - very beautiful indeed!

Not all stories spoke to me, but most of them were truly nice. It's absolutely impressive that you can convey a complete story with so few words. You use your imagination automatically with these micro stories and a lot of them make you think deeper.

I was really impressed by The Bookmark and its sequel Burn This Note. Blink was also quite gripping. Cleaning Duties and Old Auntie May's Groceries were sweet and a bit heartbreaking. The ones I mentioned are just a few of the ones I really liked.

When you want to be blown away by so many great micro stories that make you think, stand still and use your imagination, read this!

When reviewing stories, I definitely think you need to rate them in the context of their format. These micro-tales being 100 words or less means that they're obviously not going to have as much development as a short story or novel would have, but words can still elicit feelings no matter the word count.

Personally, one of the standouts was The Bookmark which is effectively a suicide note written on a bookmark. The form that it was written in was clever and, paired with the words, helped to create a heartbreaking story.

Very easy to read anthology of micro-tales.

4.25 ⭐

I love micro stories! Or flash fiction, or small fiction, or tiny tales, and whatever other names people are using to label the same thing: tiny stories that pack so much more than their size. I have long followed such works on twitter. Recently, due to reading this book, I was surprised to discover that not only lots of people don't know about them, but they can't even phantom their existence!

So, *clears throat* come with me and 🎶I can show you the world🎶 of micro fiction, and what better way to start than with this collection!

Some stories are heartwarming, some pack a punch, some are very clever and entering them without any worldbuilding actually makes them better. Go figure! It's fun how such a small thing can also be so creepy or ominous, leave you uncomfortable or horrified.

I started the book by tearing up, and experienced many many emotions with a single volume. Jeremy, I can't wait for volume 2!! *slowly peeking Dr. Who emoji*

This is perfect for mixed genre readers, like myself, but it will for sure have something for everyone. It's fast paced so it can be read in one sitting, but also during lunch breaks, commute, or between books to distance yourself from your last read and enter a new world.

Try micro fiction today! Doctor's orders.
