so far, the best one for me! i'm loving these questionable HEAs from rathbone. this whole story of cold and avani in cold was both depressing and heartwarming at the same time. the fact that the injustice is still going on and the characters, instead of fighting it, are making peace with it fucks with my mind. as long as they're together they don't really care what happens in the world.

OMG, I hate the Betas in general. They are just horrible, and what they are doing to the Alphas and Omegas is just cruel and hateful. I most especially hate the Warden. She should die in fire.

Avani is just the epitome of sweetness and light. He just brings so much joy to the world, and definitely to Cold's life. He's also got a real streak of steel right down his spine. I wouldn't want to mess with him, because he would totally win.

Oh, poor Cold. He was failed by so many people. Like I said, I hate the Betas. They hurt Cold so much. He's got such a sweet heart and so much love, but you have to get to the core of him, and only Avani and Curio can do that.

I can't wait for more in this series.

I have to admit that I really don't like the world where alpha's are in prison or locked up where they are only used for their semen and omegas are used as breeders, popping out children for the betas who seem to have all the power. Having said that, this is my third book in the Captive Alpha series and this one is just as good as the other two. Avani is so young, just turned 18, when he learns he is chosen to go to be a mate for an alpha. It is a new program that the Beta Council is instating and Cold, an alpha was chosen to be with him. Cold had been living with his parents and others in a commune, free and not obeying the laws of the betas. One night their property was attacked and all of the adults were killed, leaving Cold and the other children to be placed in different places. He didn't talk. He complied with is captors. He didn't cause any problems. After he bonds with Avani things change and right after they mate, both are taken away from each other. Everyone doubted their bond, but in the end the connection was there and soon both would welcome a baby to their family.

This is a quick read, low angst, not a strong world build but two likable characters and two parents who love their omega son and are willing to help him be happy.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

love this series

Third book in this series and it is still so amazing. The balance between sweet fluff and smoking hotness in a world, I wouldn’t want to live in is captivating. I love omega verse books. This series has its own spin on it - and to me Wendy Rathbone nails it. I received this book as ARC but I also bought it because that’s how good it is:)

Cold: Captive Alphas #3 is the definition of grumpy meet sunshine

Alpha Cold has been locked away at the Hall of Alphas after being taken forcefully from his family. He has withdrawn himself from the world around him. He doesn't speak, he doesn't respond to the Betas that he comes in contact with.
If you look at the dictionary under the word "sunshine", I'm pretty sure there would be a picture of Avani there. Avani loves his life!! He can not wait to begin his duty and have children for the Beta Council. He has been looking forward to the day he turns eighteen and is placed in his own apartment and begins his heats.

The Beta Council has decided to try a new Controlled Breeding Program and Cold and Avani are some of the few chosen to trial this program.
How could Cold be chosen at be part of a controlled Breeding Program? He knows that this must be a mistake. If he keeps his distance, surely the betas will realise their error and take him back to his cell.
Avani sees the sad alpha infront of him. He knows he's not a monster. He has to figure out a way to break down his walls.

I really enjoyed this addition to Captive Alphas series.
Cold and Avani are great together. Cold's internal struggle was heartbreaking (I just want to wrap the big ole alpha up and cuddle him). I enjoyed seeing Avani chip away at Cold's walls. I enjoyed seeing Cold eventually 'melt' for Avani.
If you are an omegaverse fan, then Captive Alphas (a twist on alpha/omega as we know it), is a must read.

*Although part of a series, it is not necessary to read the other books, however I think reading Moon will make Cold a little easier to follow.

I reread the First book MOON and it blends seamlessly into COLD the Third book in the Captive Alphas series. Unlike in the Second book the author focuses on the experiment the Beta Council wants done pairing up Imprisoned Alphas with carefully selected Omegas.

It was hard to figure out what algorithms the experts used when pairing these MCs together. The Omega was optimistic with a sunny disposition. Very smart and open to trying new things (for example, sneaking and reading erotic graphic novels). While the Alpha was his complete opposite. He was shut down, closed off, and tragically traumatized when his parents were killed. He appears very complacent but actually he just doesn't care to be conscious and his skin is surprisingly as cold as his nickname.

What happens when these polar opposites are locked together in an apartment. It goes as well as you'd expect. But no one counted on just how resourceful the intelligent little Omega is or how determined. But Wendy Rathbone is known for her angst and it came. How can they get to a happily ever after if they aren't allowed to? This is a great addition to the Captive Alphas series. If you enjoy the others you'll love this one too finding a spark of love in this harsh subjugated Alpha Omegaverse is what keeps us reading to the end.

Better Beta
The Betas in this series have a very bad reputation. And the author Wendy Rathbone throws a monkey wrench into our reading gears. Her focus in this novella is on an Alpha and Beta pairing. It was really interesting how she set up the scenario especially in the Castle (Prison) of monstrous Alphas. The Alphas been collected together to protect the population and milk the Alphas for the Beta's artificial insemination factory (process).
But what happens when the Alpha is not able to perform and supply their much-needed vital essence to impregnate Omegas? A medical fluffer is called in to do some special collecting. I was rooting for these two but really unsure of how they'd manage to find their HEA.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I want to start by saying that I am a huge fan of the mpreg stories that Wendy Rathbone writes - it is not my usual go-to genre but for her I make an exception. This book, like all the others, was very well written and had fantastic characters that pulled me in. Cold, especially, just completely melted my heart and I wanted nothing more than to wrap him up in a giant hug! Avani too was wonderful to read about; he was so full of joy and positivity. Along with Cold, Curio the kitten was also one who stole the show for me. The pair of them together was just too cute to handle! Cold, in many ways broken and locked away from the world, caring for a fluffy little kitten... absolutely adorable. There are no other words.
The journey they characters went on was very moving and I liked the HEA (relative of course to the situation they were in). One little niggle I did have, however, was that I wanted more of them together. There was a lot of build up to them meeting and, even when they were together, there was then a lot of writing from Avani's comic book (which I know was something that brought them together but sadly felt slightly overused). I think I just wanted more interaction between them. Yes, Cold had difficulties to overcome but it seemed like there was such a long build up and then everything was crammed in right at the end.
This does not, however, detract from the fact that it's a good book. I'd recommend it to others, particularly those who are familiar with the series and understand the world it's set in. I am also very much looking forward to the next book in the series!

Another original, well-written story in this amazing series. Cold’s backstory is quite sad and the way he goes through life, without hope and merely existing on “stand-by” somehow made it even more painful. As if life wasn’t already dreadful enough for alphas in this world. Avani is sweet and upbeat and has the most positive outlook on life. He’s a lovely sunshine character and perfect to soothe Cold and give him all the feels and happiness. I do wish they could have had more time together on-page to learn each other and be in a relationship together. Much of the story focuses on them growing aware and growing closer, but not as much on them actually being together. The writing is insightful and fluent and the worldbuilding unique. I’m very much looking forward to what’s next in this universe.

Captive Alphas keeps getting better and better. I loved this story! It has a very different feel from the other two books in the series and has these beautiful moments of love and family in a pretty dark situation. Cold is an Alpha who was captured as a teenager and imprisoned to serve as an Alpha breeder. He suffers from PTSD, no longer speaks, and has numbed himself to reality. He’s selected for an experimental program that pairs him with an Omega in what is essentially an arranged marriage. He’s paired with Avani, a vibrant and free spirited Omega who has a surprisingly upbeat attitude about the whole situation. Avani an avid reader of Alpha/Omega romantic graphic novels and is excited to finally meet an Alpha. He’s very empathetic to Cold’s situation and wants desperately to help him heal, using techniques like pet therapy and aromatherapy to try to draw Cold out of his shell. I love the two of them together! They’re such opposites, but it’s really wonderful to see Cold slowly begin to trust Avani. I also love how fiercely protective Avani is towards Cold. It’s sexy and dark but surprisingly tender with a lot of depth.

The world in this series is so bleak that sometimes, the loving moments just rip your heart out. Here, a large part of the book feels like that. Cold has been forced into a breeding program so has taken the only way he has put which is to completely shut himself down and become non-responsive and as inert as possible. Avani, on the other hand has had all the benefits of the breeding program and looks forward happily to getting a mate. When he's assigned Cold we have the ultimate in opposites. Somehow, Avani senses who Cold could be and brings him out of his self-imposed prison and while they are still captives in the breeding program, they have some love and hope. Until they don't. For a while, their desperation seeps off the page and you'll become so angry you want to being the whole system crashing down. Eventually, these two get an a personal HEA, but I am still anxiously awaiting the next book where I hope some serious destruction comes to the institutions in this society. If ever a revolution was needed...

Cold has been locked up by the Beta Council for years. He has continued to retreat and draw into himself. The longer he stays the more broken Cold becomes. When he is picked to pair with the omega Avani, Cold does to know what to do. His life is forever changed by this omega and what he brings to Cold’s life. Can Cold ever find a way to the present and find a future or is it all a futile gesture?

I really enjoyed Cold and Avani’s story. It is a sweet and endearing tale that pulls on your heartstrings. The Beta Council has taken everything form Cold and other Alphas yet they need the Alphas to save their race. Avani may just be what Cold needs to find his way back, but will it all be taken away before they even get to try? Avani is a beautiful omega he shines and draws Cold to him and his warmth. I loved seeing Avani work to pull Cold into the world. Cold is so much more than what they have turned him into. I loved seeing their relationship take shape. The author does a good job of mixing the romance and angst giving the reader a beautiful story.

Talk about a rocky start to a relationship ===more hurdles to jump over than a steeple chase.
Cold has earned his name, ice surrounds his heart from all the disasters that has befallen him. Now the Hall of Alphas has chosen an omega for him; not his choice. Enter Avani and his sunshine look on life begins to crack the ice around Cold's heart. And let's not forget Curio and the important part this adorable character plays in both Cold and Avani's lives while housed in the Hall of Alphas. Cold was a hard nut to crack with his refusal to speak and his stoic approach to being subjected to the horrendous breeding program. Avani is what Cold needs to come out of his PTSD life after being captured by the betas and imprisoned. Avani is Cold's opposite, bubbly naivete wears on Cold's emotions but also begins to thaw those same emotions. Avani has his own reasons for wanting to be Cold's omega. Avani is an untried virgin and doesn't want to go through life as one.
This 3rd book in the Captive Alphas series is as good as the other 2 I've already read and this ARC review via Prolificworks and is totally my voluntary & honest opinion.

Cold is the third book of the Captive Alphas series. I would recommend reading the other books as well.

Cold is being held captive in the Hall of Alphas since his teens. As he grew up on a farm and his parents tried to help him escape his fate as an Alpha, his parents got killed when he got taken away to the Hall of Alphas. He is living since then with severe PTSD and fulfilling the insane demands the beta council has of Alphas.
Avani is an omega and has always been top of his classes. When he gets chosen for a new breeding program the beta council decided on, Avani tries to make the best of it. But then he gets paired with Cold, an alpha that doesn't talk and lives in a different world. The pairing must be a mistake, right?

I liked the addition of the Captive Alphas Series. The breeding program is horrible and I wish to see it and the whole Beta in power overturned. But let's see what the next books in the series will bring.

*I received this book as an ARC. I chose to leave an honest review.*

Cold is the 3rd book in the Captive Alphas series and like the other two books, it quickly captured my heart.
While I felt for Cold and what happened to him (no details as that would be a HUGE spoiler), it was Avani who stole my heart.
I just adore him!  His bubbly personality and positive outlook shone thru.  His giddy love and enjoyment of reading "adult" comics is so perfect.  I liked that he both accepted his role in society while also not giving two figs about some of the more out-dated ideals for omegas and did as he pleased. Not saying I didn't like Cold, who is a damged soul who finds healing with Avani, one determined omega.
This book gave me a feel that change is starting to happen, that the status quo is going to shaken up by those benefactors who are funding the alpha/omega program. Can't wait to see what will happen in the next book!
My only complaint- I need the KAJAR! Graphic novel!❤

Duty to society has a heavy cost for Alphas and Omegas. Fate has a surprise waiting! Cold/Kento, is a strong Alpha who survives going deep into his mind. His solution is not necessarily healthy, but it keeps him centered. Avani, is an omega who knows his mind. He considers his life and the program he's in as an 'adventure'. Avani, survives by reading comics of his hero, Kajar. They need to mate/bond and hopefully start a family. They were chosen for the program and expected to make the effort to succeed. Can Avani get Cold to open up and communicate? Can Cold trust Avani? Will the warden and guards, let them be? Will Avani and Cold bond? Interesting story. The author does a good job making the characters more important than the world. Cold and Avani and Curio are delightful characters and bring the reader in and won't let us go. Well done! Cold is the third book in the Captive Alphas series by author Wendy Rathbone. You do not have to read this series in order to get this storyline. This story is told in Dual POV which really helps you get into Cold’s mind.

Cold has severe PDST. He has flashbacks and nightmares from it. He refuses to talk or show emotion. He tries hard to disassociate himself from being held captive.

There are many layers to Cold. He is just really miss understood at the start of this book.

Avanti where Cold is the void, Avanti is the sunshine. He is an Omega who doesn’t give up easily and loves comics. Kajar is his favorite.

I love how that comic helps these two bond. I also loved getting to know each character they have something special and interesting to bring to this story.

Overall, this is a beautifully done story, with many emotions in it, and I loved every second of it.

There were parts of this story I definitely enjoyed and loved. However, some parts I couldn't get into. I betcha it's just me though, bc its clear this author can tell a story!! I've only read 1 other book and loved that one. To be fair I haven't read any of the other books in this series and maybe that would have had me adoring the whole book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you Gay Romance Reviews for the advanced copy.

Oᗰᘜ, Oᗰᘜ, O. ᗰ. ᘜ.

With every book in this series, Wendy Rathbone manages to boil my blood even hotter. 😡🤬😶‍🌫️🤯

Seriously, my advocate soul feels the need to bust in there and start demanding some changes!! 𝖤𝖰𝖴𝖠𝖫𝖨𝖳𝖸, 𝖸𝖮𝖴 𝖣𝖮𝖴𝖢𝖧𝖤 𝖢𝖠𝖭𝖮𝖤𝖲 ..... 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭. Thankfully it’s only a fictional dark fantasy series …. so that’s one less fight to add to my docket.

Ok. Actual review time.

This series continues to develop and grow with each story. I absolutely 𝑳𝑶𝑽𝑬 that it’s not a cookie cutter series where each story follows the same formula. Every installment provides the reader with fresh MCs to love and also brand spanking new betas to want to pun€h in their fa€es. My biggest hope is that this series will eventually lead us to a revolution of some sort.

~SPOILER-ISH THINGS AHEAD~ This book is best read in order, so the storyline makes sense.

Cold is to-date my favorite character from this series. Forced into a breeding program his parents did all they could to avoid him joining, he disconnects from everything, until his omega is introduced to him. It's a learning experience for them both, and they overcome obstacles, only to have a life-altering roadblock thrown in their way. Of course, love triumphs, and they get their HEA, at least as far as 2 people in what amounts to a captive breeding program can have. Personally, I'm hoping for some great uprising, where the Betas get wiped out, because they definitely represent the shadier side of government interference.

Another great book in this intriguing series

I just love this very different world of Wendy Rathbone’s. Taking the common trope of the omegaverse and turning it on its head by having the Alphas locked up as dangerous predators and omegas as baby factories for betas and then giving all kinds of history as to how things got this way sprinkled through the stories. Now this sets us up to read about how with a decline in the birth rate the powers that be are trying to figure out what they can do. These have been fascinating books for me and I have enjoyed them all. This one has a very interesting ending. You don’t need to read them in order but you will probably understand more if you do. Anyway they are terrific heartwarming stories and well worth reading.

AMAZING!!!
This is Book #3 in the CAPTIVE ALPHAS SERIES!!! These Books can be read as stand alones but so far this is a MAGNIFICENT series. I love the outline of this series because it's so different from others I've read. Cold was in Book #1 and he completely intrigued me. I loved learning about him and what made him how he is. Avani was a wild card. He was very excited about this program. Curio was a special bonus. This was a touching story. It shows how you never really see a relationship from the outside. This is a WONDERFUL Book. There is a novella regarding Alpha Silver at the end. Thank You WENDY RATHBONE for this added gift. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE CAPTIVE ALPHAS SERIES!!!!!!!!!!

In this new Captive Alpha series, the betas are in charge while the alphas are imprisoned and their semen is “harvested” for breeding program purposes. Omegas, though required to comply with what is expected of them under the laws, are treated fairly well. In this story, Cold is a compliant but silent alpha, choosing not to speak due to the trauma and intense grief he makes great effort to manage on a daily basis. Enter Avani, an omega chosen for him to mate with under the auspices of an experimental program. I was drawn into this story completely, and sympathized with Cold’s pain and Avani’s predicament in being presented with this broken alpha as a mate; Wendy Rathbone continues to turn the traditional A/B/O tropes on their heads as she imagines innovative ways to write omegaverse stories. These are definitely “must reads” for me.

**ARC Review**

Take one grief stricken alpha and a sunshine omega and this match up will leave you feeling warm and cozy. I really did enjoy this one in the series. The two MCs grab you in the beginning. Avani was so happy go lucky...ready to do his duty for the society...his overall outlook on his life...well life in general, was so sweet and special. His pairing with Cold was really fate in the works. Both were opposites but their differences is what drawn them closer...strengthen the bond....and little Curio(the cat) was the glue that help with the bonding...Now I did feel things started moving entirely too quick after they were parted for a bit(for idiotic reasons) but I was happy with the outcome towards the end and their lovely HEA

This felt like "just more of the same".
When I started the series, I had high hopes that there would be more than what it ended up being, especially since the author teased that there are groups out there fighting the beta rule.

This book felt very much like a copy of the first, following the same plot points with some minor differences.
I also did not like Cold much. He was in his head a lot, and I did not like his edgy, wanna-be poetic narration at all.

I give it 2 stars since it wasn't awful, it just wasn't anything new, or special, or worth remembering.
If this author wrote a longer book, gave the couple more time to meet, bond, etc, and more of a satisfying plot set in this world, I think it could be amazing.

Two love stories for the price of one? Sign me up! An interesting new spin on a dystopian Omegaverse where betas rule with an iron fist. This was a new author for me, and I quite enjoyed her writing style. It was fresh and fun, laced with romance and heartbreak. I only wish it had been longer. I also would have loved to have seen And while Cold and his mate were front and center, I loved the Kajar! storyline going on in the background. I truly hope this author considers writing a book just for them? Pretty please? I will be checking out more from this author in the future. 4.25 stars.

I liked this story. Cold is an Alpha who has undergone a traumatic experience losing family and being locked up in isolation. He doesn't talk to anyone, he goes where he is supposed to and does what he's told. He has basically checked out of life.

Avanti is excited to be an Omega breeder. He wants his apartment and all the things that go with being and omega and turning 18.

Cold meets Avanti and Curio and his life changes a bit. He starts to interact. There starts to be a bit of hope.

I love Avanti. He is a spark of happiness that Cold needs. Cold needs something good in his life. Avanti, Curio and Cold all deserve to be together !

I liked reading about Cold and Avani, their story was quite different to how Moon’s played out. I get that this was happening at the same time as Moon’s but it didn’t feel like the characters that would be interacting with both were acting like it. I was glad that Cold was able to find happiness again after what happened when he was younger and Avani was just right to get past his walls. I wished that they would have had the chance to be a little more independent like what happened in Moon’s book but they seemed happy in the end.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review

Another entertaining addition to the series, but again I'm left slightly annoyed with the inconsistencies in the Beta Council's approach to things and also the complete glossing over the fact that our HEA is inside a high-security prison... I mean, sure, they have each other and a cat and a kid, but they are still stuck inside those 4 walls, with cameras and guards 24 /7... Why couldn't they get an outside house, like Moon and his Omega?

****
While I truly have enjoyed this series, I'm left disappointed that the author didn't utilize the fantastic premise of the world she has thought up in this series, or at least adhered to the same rules and strictures she set up initially

This was my first book in this series so I’ll have to catch up with the previous ones to get the full picture of this universe. But I really liked that it was very different from other omegaverse stories I read before.
Alphas and omegas aren’t masters of their own fates and aren’t even supposed to cross paths in a world ruled by betas. Cold and Avani are given this chance and I really enjoyed watching them together. Cold is so closed off and broken, it was wonderful to see him come back to life with Avani’s help. This boy is a literal sunshine and he’s the only one who has the power to break down Cold’s walls. They’re so perfect for each other, I was rooting for them all along. And the ending was really satisfying.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

Although Wendy Rathbone's Cold is the third book in the Alphas series, it's my first book for this series. I found the author's take on the omegaverse very unique and interesting; alphas don't rule the roost as it is usually with omegaverse stories. It's actually the betas that govern their society.

I likes the concept that a happy, sweet and innocent omega has broken down the wall of a hardened, broken alpha. It was so romantic to see the love blossoms between Avanti and Cold.

I still don't understand the beta-ruled society but COLD was a page-turner for me.
