Can he outwit her big brother?

A Christmas visit to the Buckskin puts rancher Sky McLintock on a collision course with college teacher Penny Marston. He falls head-over-boots from the get-go, but Penny’s big brother Leo makes it clear no out-of-town stranger is messing with his little sister. And Leo has backup. The other muscular cowboys of the Buckskin Brotherhood made Penny their adopted little sister. One false move and Sky’s goose is cooked.

Penny recently dumped her cheating fiancé and isn’t about to get serious about any man. But a holiday fling with a broad-shouldered cowboy? Heck, yeah! Sky’s the fantasy hero she’s only met in books. Leo may think he can monitor her social life, but he’s not the boss of her. If Sky’s okay with temporary fun and games, she’ll help him out-maneuver Leo and the Brotherhood. Plotting how to fool them will be fun… until she realizes she’s really fooling herself.

Saddle up for the fun-filled Buckskin Brotherhood series! Steamy western romances from the NYT bestselling author who brought you The McGavin Brothers of Eagles Nest, Montana. If you like sexy cowboys, charming small towns, and laugh-out-loud adventures, you’ll love meeting the Buckskin Brotherhood.

I think Vicki Lewis Thompson outdid herself when she wrote this book.  It was a beautiful, romantic love story and a story of finding oneself, finding one's happiness, and following one's heart.  It was also a story of Sky learning about who his father was and how he looked just like him.  I liked that the Brotherhood, especially Leo, gave him such a hard time when he first arrived at the Buckskin Ranch.  It was fun watching history seem to repeat itself, like father, like son, with Sky and Penny.  I have enjoyed reading all of the books in this series and I think this book is one of my favorites. I liked how everthing was neatly tied up and how the other characters I have grown to love were also in this book. It was the perfect book for Charley's legacy too. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chase to write an honest review.

Tenth in The Buckskin Brotherhood western romance series and revolving around a brotherhood of cowboys brought together by Charley and Henri Fox in Apple Grove, Montana. The couple focus is on Penelope Marston and Skyler McLintock.

Gift-Giving Cowboy segues into the Rowdy Ranch series.

My Take
If you want a sweet story that will make you feel good, this is it, a story in which people build their own family with so many of them having endured horrible childhoods and neglectful or abusive parents. That said, there is very little real conflict or drama except for what’s between Henri and Desiree.

”’Penny, you’re staring.’

’Can’t help it. The towel’s moving. . . I’m moving it with my mind. I never could bend a spoon, but I’m moving that towel.’”

Thompson uses third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Penny’s and Sky’s perspectives. It makes sense, as it is, technically, all about them, even if they are a vehicle to promote love and family.

The major conflict is Desiree and Sky meeting Henri with the truth about Sky. Minor conflicts include Penelope and Sky’s romance and the conflict it creates with the Brotherhood, including their plans to chaperon Penny!

All the characters are sweet and some are rather racy. Heck, check out Desiree who was never married and loves life. She is so supportive of her children and appears to have taught them well.

Westerns have definitely influenced Desiree from John Wayne to Clint Eastwood to Louis L’Amour and more. That bit Sky relates about how Desiree loved being pregnant and her joy in writing was a hoot.

Thompson does make a seeming misstep when she suggests that Sky is the true heir to the ranch. Conflict appears inevitable, but it’s a series of surprises from Henri’s true anger to Sky’s indecision over meeting his father.

The Brotherhood came into being in honor of Charley, and he does sound like a treat; I really should read all of the books just to enjoy his character. I know I want to continue on and read the Rowdy Ranch just because I’m loving Desiree’s character.

Penelope sure knows what she wants, and she’s not shy about going after it. I wish I’d been as brave as she, in going after those lady pleasers, lol.

There are a lot of back history truths we learn, all of which have a lesson attached. I also love that underlying theme of loyalty and honor. It seems to be a rarity in our own world.

The action revolves around Henri’s reactions to Sky (and his mom), the Brotherhood as they celebrate their lives and loves, and more intimately, Sky's and Penny’s interactions. Even the horses are sweet . . . sigh. Yep, I’m one of those females who loved the horses. Still do.

It’s a combination of remembrances and regrets as well as a display of the power of women, lol. Yeah, it also shows that men still expect the women to give up their lives for theirs.

The Story
It’s a shock to learn that Charley had a son. He’d have loved him so much. And it’s too much for Henri to learn about Skyler now, now that Charley will never get to know him.

It’s a bargain Henri wrangles, that Sky spend Christmas with her and the Buckskin Brotherhood.

It’s a sad state, that Skyler had the best father ever and never knew him.

The Characters
Dr Penelope Marston is a professor who teaches American lLiterature with a specialty in the Western genre at UCLA. Barry, Penelope’s mentor, is the jerk of an ex-fiancé.

The Buckskin Ranch is . . .
. . . owned by Charley Fox’s widow, Henri Fox. Recently, Henri married Ben Malone, Charley’s best friend and the owner of the Choosy Moose. The Brotherhood are the cowboys Charley and Henri took in as family and include Leo, Penny’s older brother (the one who’d been the rising child star) who’s married to Fiona ( Secret-Santa Cowboy , 6); Jake Lassiter (he was married to Millie in Big-Hearted Cowboy , 2), but he works at Raptors Rise these days even if he is the unofficial co-captain of the Brotherhood; the musical CJ is married to Isabel ( Baby-Daddy Cowboy , #3) — their little girl, Cleo Marie, is having a birthday party complete with Handsome Sam; Zeke is Jake’s little brother with a young daughter, Claire (he hooked up with Nell in Single-Dad Cowboy , 8); Nick (he’s living with Eva, a stylist and co-owner at Très Beau from True-Blue Cowboy , #4); Rafe who’s married to Kate ( Strong-Willed Cowboy , 5); Matt, the other captain who married Lucy, who has become an excellent barrel racer ( Sweet-Talking Cowboy , 1); and, Garrett is married to Anna who has a young son, Georgie ( Stand-Up Cowboy , 7).

The ranch specializes in buckskins and the prime pair are King and Prince, Charley’s and Henri’s horses. Lucky Ducky is a gelding Georgie loves. Cinnamon is Claire’s buckskin.

Skyler McLintock is the oldest of ten kids. His siblings include Beau who’s in love with Jessica; Clint and Cheyenne are twins; Marsh; Rance is the youngest brother; Angelique is their only sister and the youngest. Their mother was Doris Ann Miller, then Desiree Annabel McLintock, a.k.a. MR Morrison, and she’s written 50 westerns. With the earnings from her books, she bought the Rowdy Ranch. Buck and Mary Beth Weaver run the ranch. I think Wagon Train is the name of the town. The Fluffy Buffalo is their town’s watering hole.

The Babes on Buckskins are . . .
. . . older ladies who barrel race . . . or used to. Edna “Ed” Jane Vidal is their leader, who “loved getting married but” had “a devil of a time staying married". Teague works for Ed on her ranch and is engaged to Val ( Marriage-Minded Cowboy , 9). Other Babes include Josette, who co-owns Très Beau with Eva; Red; Peggy; and, Pam.

Apple Grove, Montana, is . . .
. . . a small town. The Choosy Moose is the town watering hole where Joey is a waiter and Ezra is a terrific cook. Other businesses include the Apple Grove Gazette; the Apple Barrel; Logan’s Leather; Racy Lace; the Apple Grove Hotel, which hasn’t changed much (and Desiree never could justify staying there) and where Rusty is the fancy booted bellhop; and, Jeans Junction.

The Cover and Title
The snowy background with the be-wreathed red barn makes sense, for it is Christmas. In the forefront is Skyler wearing his black cowboy hat and waterproof jacket, taking up the top half of the cover. In the bottom half, a white background provides contrast for the burgundy title with a wreath for the “o” in it. Beneath that is the series information in green bracketed by green rowels. The author’s name is below that in an engraved gold with black outlines. Below that is an info blurb in green.

The title is all about Skyler, for he is a Gift-Giving Cowboy.

As always Thompson delivers another heart melting story!

I have to say, it was interesting reading Henri described as someone that is frosty towards another person but Thompson somehow managed to still write her true to her character. Definitely an interesting contrast but it showed the depth of Thompson’s characters.

Despite the challenges, I liked how hopeful this story was, especially the love story. Both Sky and Penny knew they couldn’t logically be together but that didn’t stop them from wanting each other or trying to find a way to be together. A refreshing take compared to some of the other Buckskin couples’ early days. I especially loved how the concept of spending more time together was so important and it wasn’t just lust!

What a fantastic way to wrap up this series! I loved all the love-story recaps of the other couples because it was such a perfect way to wish this series farewell.

I also have to say, I low key loved the mention of LOTR because I read the books for the first time this year. Naming Cleo’s pony after one of my favourite LOTR characters was the cherry on top given I want to one day name my horse Bilbo or Bombadil and now maybe Samwise. Also knowing these cowboys don’t have a microwave was great because for a long time I didn’t have one either. Vicki has a crazy way of adding details that always feel so personal and specific to me…Cosmic connection perhaps?

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review, thank you @vickilewisthompson! The Gift Giving Cowboy is available where you buy books on November 5!

Ah, that was a really heartfelt and romantic story, and lots of sexy bits too. I wondered how Sky was going to marry Penny when she lives/works so far away. A lovely HEA. Loved it! 5☆

There's nothing like reading a Christmas romance when the snow starts to fall, and this series finale of the Buckskin Brotherhood absolutely fits the bill. Sky is visiting the Buckskin to introduce himself as the son that Charley, who inspired the Brotherhood to live by his wisdom to honor his memory, never knew he had. At first, matriarch Henri is suspicious, but when she lays eyes on Sky, he's the spitting image of his dad. It's a good thing she had Penny on standby as backup, because she's overwhelmed; Penny's ready to step in and smooth things over with the handsome cowboy. Though she's still recovering from a bad relationship, Penny's immediately drawn to Sky—much to the consternation of her brother, Leo, and the other members of the Brotherhood, who just want to protect her.

The roadblocks the story sets up—and then knocks down—between these two lovers are messy and complicated and so true to the enormity of what happens when two people whose lives are already filled to the brim suddenly finding a way to mesh them together. The overprotective brothers bit makes for a nice start, but thankfully doesn't last long as the women of the Buckskin effectively pull a Lysistrata maneuver to get men in line; this is the first time I've seen that type of move in a romance novel, and I loved how it came together! As Sky and Penny's romance progresses, there are many other hurdles, none of which stop the two of them from having steamy fun, or from growing closer together emotionally, despite their best efforts. Thompson brings it all together, juggling a huge crew of familiar faces without ever making the novel feel overwhelmed by cameos. The result is a celebration of family—both genetic and found—and the power of love that's incredibly well suited to the Christmas season.

While my favorite of Thompson's Christmas romances will probably always be A COWBOY'S CHRISTMAS, I'm excited to see where her next series leads!

Gift-Giving Cowboy

I loved this romance between Sky and Penny. They were both guests for the Christmas celebrations with the Buckskin Brotherhood at their ranch. Sky is the son that his father, Charlie, never knew he had. Sky's mother, Desiree, found out she was pregnant after Charlie broke up with her to marry a woman he met at a convention. That woman, Henri, was meeting Sky for the first time. She was shocked to see that Sky was the mirror image of Charlie who had died and to meet Sky's mother who was an author of Westerns she and Charlie had collected before his death. Penny was a professor of Western literature at UCLA and was a fan and surprised to find out about the secret Sky's mother had about the books. You will have to read this book to find out the secret and if Sky and Penny would have a permanent relationship. I highly recommend this beautiful love story. I received a free copy as a newsletter subscriber and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Gift-Giving Cowboy (The Buckskin Brotherhood, #10) by Vicki Lewis Thompson
If I wasn't in love with The Buckskin Brotherhood already I would be after reading Sky and Penny's story. Vicki you have done it again! I can only hope that maybe there will be a new series based on Sky's ranch and brothers and sister. Sky's connection to the ranch is a big surprise for everyone. Penny's visit to the ranch and her brother Leo is to help her get over her breakup with her cheating fiancé. This is where the fun begins - there is angst, kid cuteness, regrets, hurt feelings, happy feelings, laughter, tears, discovery, instant connections, hard decisions, lots and lots of steam and a Merry Christmas to get us to a very HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Great word building Steamy Happily Ever After Wonderful characters Entertaining Tear-jerker Easy-to-read Funny Page-turner Romantic

Henri Fox and the Brotherhood find out that Charley had a son he never knew about. Sky visiting the ranch and looking so much like his father stirs up feelings and emotions amongst all those who live there. Penny Marston also visiting finds herself in the middle, trying to keep things on an even keel, she can see both Sky’s position and Henri’s. Their attraction is strong but the Brotherhood want to protect her from a broken heart as any romance can only be temporary; their shenanigans however do not go down well with their wives/girlfriends and they are ‘persuaded’ to back down. A delightful romance tying up this series and beginning a new one with a big red bow.
Can be read as a standalone.

Wonderful series

Gift-Giving Cowboy was the most emotional book of the series. We had to lose Charley to make the series but it's still hard to take even after 10 books. Skylar coming to the Buckskin was a big surprise for us all. His arriving when Penny was there was destiny. I've enjoyed how VLT incorporates popular songs in her books. I hum along with the crew. Claire, Henri, Ed, Ben and the whole Buckskin family are the best family ever. Great series and well worth the a little, sadness amongst all the happiness.

This circumstance really adds a wealth of emotion to the Buckskin Brotherhood series and loads of details. Sky is such a cowboy aka gentlemen with a big heart and eager to please and Penny is in need of some satisfact...distraction. Love the chemistry, open honesty and how it all wooing and wowing comes together. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to read and leave a review.

VLT creates characters and settings that draw you in and make you want to stay! I love her stories because I get to connect with the other characters in the series. Sky is now my favorite hero by VLT! What a sweetheart! Penny is someone that I'd be friends with. The story has heart and steam. I'm hoping that the next series will be Sky's family! I recommend reading this to anyone who likes a good romance that is steamy!
I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest review.

Gift Giving Cowboy is a great ending to the Buckskin Brotherhood, and although I'm sad to see the series end, I'm looking forward to the start of a new family of cowboys (and girls).
Sky and Penny are both visiting Apple Grove, but they each find a home away from home on the Buckskin Ranch; Sky finds a family he never knew he wanted and Penny finds a reason to step out of her comfort zone.

Right now I can’t believe there have been ten great stories in this series and it feels like it might end. This book introduces Sky McLintock and a new-found love, Penny Marston. To see what comes of their life, we all have to keep watching for the next book from this author. Meanwhile, I’m writing a review about a wonderful story-line, listening to “Keeper of the Stars” and smiling. Thanks for a great book and all the terrific stories I’ve read by this author.

Sky is very skeptical about meeting his dad's wife. Then Penny is there visiting her brother and on sight they feel the spark - what could have been a bad visit turns into something magical that you will need to read to book to believe - cannot hardly wait for the new series that this books hints at! I read a book funnel version and freely leave my review!

A Penny for Sky

The Buckskin Brotherhood comes to an end and opens the door for the Rowdy Ranch. If the Rowdy cowboys are anything like Sky, there will be more great love stories on the way.

Can Penny have a fling with Sky without getting feelings involved and keeping the Buckskin Brotherhood at arm's length?

Another wonderful cowboy romance from VLT!

Read, loved!

Have loved every one of Thompson's books I have read. There was something about this one that grabbed my heart all the way to the end. It was absolutely the best of them all. All of the Bucks in brotherhood book are wonderful, but this one is not only the icing, but the cherry on top.

Alas the end of the Buckskin Brotherhood series, but absolutely one of the best. The characters will pull you in right from the beginning and the storyline will have you running through all the emotions. Don't miss this one and if you haven't read the others you will want to now.

Delightful!

What a great romance! The ladies who each loved Charlie were well developed and provided substance to the story that unfolded. However, the hot romances of the guys in the brotherhood really set fire to the ranch life.
