What’s Wrong with My Child?: One Mother’s Desperate Quest to Uncover What Was Really Wrong with Her Family ... and The Disturbing Facts She Revealed that Could Help Save Yours

Rate this book
What’s Wrong with My Child? reveals a mother’s quest for answers about her son’s psych symptoms that leads to shocking discoveries that could impact struggling families in the United States and possibly globally.

Elizabeth Harris’ son Cody was eleven when, out of the blue, he started exhibiting signs of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The OCD turned into something far more sinister when Cody started having episodes where he seemed to lose total control over his actions, leading to Cody being committed to a county youth detention center. There, he was placed in solitary confinement for weeks. For five years, Elizabeth fought a hard battle to find out what was going on with her son and their family while simultaneously battling an unsympathetic judicial system.

Driven to find a cure, Elizabeth visited countless doctors across the USA. She quickly became frustrated by the fact that there was no agreement in the medical community regarding PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep), the disease behind Cody’s transformation. In her quest for answers, this science-minded spa owner found proof of weaponized bacteria not only impacting their extended family, but that could be making families around the USA and possibly globally sick as well.

Thank you!! I knew I was dealing with PANS with 2 of my kids already but you just unlocked the whole family. I’m also experiencing pain like you described for yourself. I am so thankful to have read your book because it has given me a direction to heal us all fully.

Scientific and Comprehensive

I consider myself a fairly intelligent and well-read person, having graduated from college summa cum laude with two degrees and several additional certifications in the social services sector. While looking for something to read late one recent evening, this book caught my eye.
I feel that most anything we read has the potential to introduce to us new topics of interest (or a decision that indeed we aren't interested in a particular topic) , new concepts for consideration etc. We can then choose to accept or reject the lessons learned, research them further or file them away in our minds for potential use or reflection later!
While I can't say I hated this book, I did find it difficult to read. I am more analytical with regards to feeling as opposed to thinking scientifically and though I likely have a somewhat higher than average understanding of the medical basics, this book was hard to grasp fully in some places.
It initially got and kept my attention, the author is clearly highly educated AND motivated because her son and in fact much of her entire family were all ill at one time or another with a constellation of symptoms. Her son suffered especially in a variety of ways and this book in essence describes a mom's fight for her child's well-being. This is something most all of us understand!
It also is about illnesses brought on by what she believes is exposure to Mycoplasma and syndromes referred to as PANS as well as PANDAS. It was SO intense I can't even recall now immediately after reading the book what those letters stand for.
I gave it 4 stars because 3.5 stars wasn't possible and because I feel like I may have gotten more out of it if it weren't so steeped in science and medicine. However others more familiar with those fields may find it much easier and thus, likely more valuable!
