Worth reading!

I promise that if you choose to read Bound by Jan Lindie and Elizabeth Doll, you will be incredibly glad you did! This book is not typically in my to read category as I do not read this genre. The good news is that reading a genre outside my norm has been well worth every single word! I am super excited for the second book in The LoFK series!! Awesome job, Jan and Elizabeth!!

“Bound” is a dark and sexy Adult Paranormal Fantasy novel and is the first book in “The Library Of Forbidden Knowledge Series” by Jan Lindie @jan_lindieauthor and Elizabeth Doll @shelindreaire. It features a strong, snarky heroine “Aaliyah Fairchild-Black” and a hot Elysian Earthbound Angel “Balthazaar”.

Aaliyah Fairchild-Black is a Fae of the Seelie Court. However, her father is a Vampyre, whose forename not even her relatives seem to remember. All anyone seems to know is that his surname is Black.
Aaliyah’s mission is to save her mother Shailyn who has been enthralled by her Demi-Demon step-father Aurelius Umbra who Aaliyah hates.
To help free her mother Aaliyah must now find this Mr Black. It is this search that brings her to the Library of Forbidden Knowledge (LoFK).

The book hosts a list as long as your arm of your favourite fantasy beings: Immortals, Faes, Vampyres, Demi-Demons, Angels, The Fallen, Dragons and even Samuel…the Devil himself.

As much as I love fantasy the more books I pick up in this genre the more nonsense I come across.
I know it’s not an easy task to write a great plot/storyline with interesting dialogue including fantastic characters and also accomplish that balance between realism and fantasy. But to succeed in the fantasy genre it’s a absolute must.

Bound is well written, it has a quirky storyline and an engrossing plot…added to that a strong female protagonist in Aaliyah who can and does stand her ground, characters that are 3 dimensional, twists and turns, witty dialogue and a slow burn romance. So for me “Bound” was a great debut to what could turn out to be a very good fantasy series. Looking forward to diving into “Attachments” Book 2 in the LoFK series.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all lovers of paranormal fantasy.

Bound is the first book in the series of The Library of Forbidden Knowledge cowritten by Elizabeth Doll and Jan Lindie. The Library of Forbidden Knowledge is an urban fantasy series that crafts a world of magic and paranormal creatures living amongst humans in the modern world. Bound features a story that captivates and characters that you can’t help but fall in love with (even when you shouldn’t!).

The story begins with Aaliyah Fairchild-Black, a vampyre-fae hybrid who is searching for her biological father, a vampyre, in The Library of Forbidden Knowledge, a sentient creature known as Libby (to her friends). Aaliyah’s father is the only one who can lift the curse Aaliyah’s evil stepfather placed on her mother. Aaliyah’s quest forces her to enlist the help of supernatural creatures she meets along the way all the while trying to escape her stepfather, her maternal grandfather, and an army of demons that bring the power of hell with them. Aaliyah starts to gain magical abilities of her own throughout her journey and is forced to question just what exactly her heritage is and who her father was.

Libby was such an amazing character and I wish to read more from her in future installments. I enjoyed reading the perspectives of the Library because it gave more depth to the story to hear it told by a completely different character and it supplied the reader with more information regarding the supernatural world. Reading chapters narrated by Libby felt as if I was hearing behind-the-scenes information about what was happening when the other characters weren’t around and they provided more context as to how certain events and circumstances came about. I am curious if these were the authors’ intentions when they chose to include another point of view or if there was a different reason. I wonder what inspired them to make the Library sentient instead of using a librarian to fill her role.

Bound explores themes of self-realization and embracing who you really are regardless of the challenges it brings. The book asks questions such as how far would you go to save the people you love and explores themes of love, trust, and family; whether that be the vampyre father Aaliyah has never met, the fae mother Aaliyah just can’t seem to reach, or the angelic friends she meets along her search, and how such familial bonds could be formed so quickly and so deeply in our fast-paced day-to-day life. The book provides an explanation for how such families would look like and function in our modern world and has scenes and characters you can relate to despite the difference in species. While reading, the audience is forced to reflect on their own families, chosen and biological, and the differences and similarities between them and the fictional relationships of the characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not get enough while I was reading! I was disappointed when I was finished and couldn’t read the sequel fast enough. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading supernatural, fantasy, and romance!
