Kate Kupid is tired of being single, so when a sexy Hawaiian playboy propositions her, she decides to throw caution to the wind. After all, a girl only spends Valentine’s Day on a Hawaiian Island once.
The last person Gideon Armstrong expects to run into in Snowberry, Minnesota, is Kate Kupid—the woman he turned away from his bed a year ago at his Hawaiian resort. Staring into her unforgettable eyes, he sees a second chance to prove to Kate he's not the jerk she thinks he is.
Against the beautiful backdrop of the Hawaiian Islands, Gideon plans to fix Kate’s broken heart, but Kate isn’t sure her heart can handle the kind of love he has to offer. It turns out, that’s the least of their problems. When bullets start to fly on Kupid's Cove, Kate has a split second to decide if Gideon is the man she can trust with her life.
Katie Mettner wears the title of 'the only person to lose her leg after falling down the bunny hill' and loves decorating her prosthetic leg to fit the season. She lives in Northern Wisconsin with her own happily-ever-after and spends the day writing romantic stories with her sweet puppy by her side. Katie has an addiction to coffee and dachshunds and a lessening aversion to Pinterest — now that she’s quit trying to make the things she pins.
I love Katie Mettner books, but this one wasn't as good as the others
Katie is a great author and I love her books and how she shows that imperfections or health issues don't mean you can't be loved. This book was okay, but felt like it was not as smooth. Also, there were references that seemed more negative and not necessary. My least favorite Katie Mettner book, but still good.
Calling Kupid was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a sweet love story, which I got, but I wasn’t expecting a romantic suspense, but it had a couple of pretty scary moments. Kate and Gideon don’t exactly get off on the right foot the first time they meet in paradise. Kate, having her self-esteem crushed at the hands of Gideon on Valentine’s Day, returns home from Hawaii with the goal of forgetting she’d ever met the jerk. Kate’s story will break your heart. She’s sweet and loving, and a fiercely loyal friend, but she’s also very alone. Now that her best friend is married and pregnant, she’s fighting the self-pity and loneliness that plagues her. Gideon has been on a journey of lose and self-discovery. After spending months and months nursing his dying mother, he’s realized how empty his playboy life really was. He’s also realized how much family means to him, but is it too late? Being threatened and chased from his home by someone dead set on destroying him, he heads to Snowberry to hide. Many months of trying to get him and the words he said to her out of her head, Kate doesn’t know what to think when Gideon steps into her office. What proceeds from there is a wonderfully plotted and well written story that will warm your heart while it makes you wish you had your own Gideon Armstrong to sweep you off your feet and protect you. Kate and Gideon’s story begins with misunderstandings and travels through conversations with God and each other until their love can’t be denied. They’re both redeemed and they’re both healed and they’re both overdue for some happily ever after. Thankfully Katie Mettner delivers all of the above!
Calling Kupid was amazing! Katie and Gideon are amazing together. Learning that true love is truly unconditional, and learning to accept it takes these two on an adventure they don't see coming. Action, adventure, and romance can mix, and, Ms. Mattner does it well!
1.5* DNF. Sorry but I just can’t read anymore. it’s not just boring it doesn’t make sense!
So I read the reviews for this book and ignored them. I’m very very sorry for that. Katie meets Gideon in Hawaii at her best friends wedding. They go for a walk on the beach, make out a bit, go back to someone’s room, no idea whose as it’s really not clear. He realises she’s really drunk, tries to stop it, and can’t as he has no frigging willpower, so HE INSULTS HER WEIGHT AND HER BODY?!?!? WTAF??
It fasts forward to 11 months later and she meets Gideon again as she was his mothers lawyer. Gideon tells her she was really drunk, and he didn’t mean to insult her, and she’s fine about it!!!! Oh I can’t cope.
So far I’ve realised that Gideon isn’t a decent man. Yes he’s really rich, yes he’s really busy, but he goes to his mothers funeral and WORKS ON HIS PHONE!! Katie/Penny whoever she is has congenital heart failure according to the blurb, but nothing is ever made of it, she drinks caffeine in tea and numerous cokes, you’re not supposed to drink caffeine with a bad heart. You’re not supposed to drink alcohol either and she does. Katie and her best friend who is as close as a sister, don’t seem to close at all. As she doesn’t even ask about her best friends heart appointment. None of this book makes sense. Gideon really really liked Katie in Hawaii but insults her, her best friend is so wrapped up in her life she doesn’t seem to notice Katie is sinking. Gideon was really close to his mother but doesn’t know much about her and reads his phone at her funeral. Oh and Katie is still a virgin at 27 as no one has ever really tried to have a relationship with her. Why??
One final thing and then I’ll shut up. Gideon says all he can think about is making sweet love to her. SWEET LOVE?? Not hot sexy love? Wow.
My expectations dropped considerably when I read " Her Hazel Tresses" . The FMC came off as a drunken sorority girl that grabbed his crotch shortly after they met then claimed to be a virgin??? and the MMC was kinda sleazy. Just not my idea of romantic. Delete.
I just finished reading "Calling Kupid." It was so good I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. This is the second book I've read by author Katie Mettner and it definitely won't be the last.
This is the first book in the Kupid's Cove series. In this book we are introduced to Gideon and Kate. They meet in Hawaii and what is supposed to be a simple one night stand turns out to be anything but that. Especially since the new couple doesn't even get to the part where they sleep together which is a fact that haunts Kate for almost a year making her second guess everything about herself. She's not the only one who can't let that night go either. Gideon, once a playboy and able to get any woman he wants, now can only think of Kate and what might have been. Almost a year later they meet again as Kate is made executor of Gideon's mother's estate. The spark between Kate and Gideon returns but both of them have secrets that threaten to tear them apart. Will they be able to get past their secrets and be together? You will have to read this amazing book to find out.
Warning. Once you pick this book up I wouldn't plan anything else until you finish it because you won't be able to put it down.
Katie Kupid is stuck on a gorgeous Hawaiian island alone on Valentine’s Day. When alcohol clouds her judgement in this beautiful setting for lovers, her desire for a one night stand with a handsome stranger is crushed by his insensitive refusal.
Eleven months later, back in Snowberry Michigan, she comes face-to-face with Gideon Armstrong Jr, the man who trampled on her self-esteem and her heart. He has some explaining to do but she’s having none of it. But neither can forget the other.
Katie Mettner draws us in with a wonderful story of misunderstanding, danger, suspense and love. The conversations each character have with God are powerful. They must answer serious questions about their faith in Him. In doing so, Gideon learns that he must protect and fix Katie’s broken heart and Katie learns to trust Gideon to keep both her body and her heart safe.
This is both a wrap up of the Snowberry series and the start of the Kupid’s Cove series. Can’t wait to see what Katie Mettner has up her sleeve for us now in the lush setting of Maui.
Gideon's love for Katie shone through with his patience and understanding. Katie, giving him a second chance, was just what her heart needed physically and mentally. The added suspense of the mystery man causing chaos/drama did not make this your typical boy meets girl romance. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Wow! That was different from what I was expecting! I loved this story. It had love, friendship, & angst too. I wasn't expecting to have my heart beating & wondering what was going to happen next. It was so wonderful and I can't wait to start the next book in the series
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
Well this was the second Katie Mettner book that I have read and it will be the last one. There were so many things thrown in this story that I don't even know where to start. Family deceased, suicide, religious issues, failing organs, depression, stalker, wealthy player, age gap, virgin and the list goes on! I only read this book because it was listed as romantic suspense however there wasn't much suspense and it was so overly dramatic that I got tired of rolling my eyes. Kate Kupid is an attorney in small town Minnesota. The book begins in Hawaii where she is maid of honor at the wedding of her best friend and decides to throw caution to the wind and go down to the beachfront bar. She meets an older guy and feels like now is the time to live life on the wild side and flirt and have a one night stand. Apparently that doesn't happen because in the next chapter it is 11 months later and she is back working in her office and feeling lonely and depressed about the lack of love in her personal life. Meanwhile Gideon Armstrong is in Chicago coming to terms with the death of his mother and trying to clear up her estate. Unbeknownst to Gideon his mother's legal wishes lead him to Minnesota and Kate. The best thing about their story was that it was told from dual POV but even that couldn't save it from the overly dramatic storyline. I tried but there are a lot of great books out there waiting to be read and I am moving on.
Calling Kupid: A Hawaiian Island Romantic Suspense Novel (Kupid's Cove Book 1) By Katie Mettner
Kate Kupid meets a man (Gideon) in Hawaii on Valentines day, a bit too much alcohol and she has a few regrets. Almost a year later in her Hometown of Snowberry Minnesota, she encounters Gideon Armstrong again.
Gideon is very wealthy Kate is not. The two could not be more different. There is still an attraction, though she has reservations. Soon danger comes their way, and Gideon will do anything to protect his new love.
A fantastic story with Romance, danger, secrets, friendship and adventure. Kate is very likable, I wanted her to be happy. Gideon is the opposite of Kate, yet they do make an unlikely pair. I liked their imperfections as a couple and wanted them to live happily ever after. Calling Kupid definitely has all the "feels" I highly recommend to those who love a great romantic/suspense.
Katie Kupid attends her best friend's wedding in Hawaii. After too much to drink, Katie decides to disappear into the ocean but is saved by Gideon Armstrong. They are attracted to each other, but Gideon disappears only to turn up a year later in Katie's hometown of Snowberry, MN. Their reuniting is rocky at first, but in a short period of time, they discover they are soul mates. But Gideon's life is being threatened by an unknown person which also places Katie in danger. Who is behind the threats and will their love prevail. Read this sweet romance with a touch of suspense to find out the answers, while falling in love with Katie and Gideon.
DNF! The plot line does not make any sense. Gideon has a sex shack (tiki hut) on the beach where he takes his hook ups. Bartender is an accomplice and since Gideon owns the resort it is all cool. Katie is drunk and Gideon only stops due to birth control issue. He has bartender escort her back to her room after he insults her and calls her thick waisted. Go forward 11 months and he claims he felt bad and was searching for her. The guy is a billionaire. She has a serious heart problem and is drunk. The best friends angle is also a mess.
I absolutely love Katie Mettners’ books. This one made me hate Gideon… and then love him. I’m always a sucker for a fiercely protective guy. Kate was such a strong, compelling character with a heartbreaking backstory… both literally and figuratively. Her physical and mental struggles were written so well that I found myself wanting the absolute best for her at every turn. The tension and chemistry between the main characters were so good. I loved the love-hate, almost romance dynamic they had going on, and then BAM, the suspense exploded and sent the story into a wild, intense ride. The twists, the building trust between them, and the emotional payoff were incredibly satisfying. And that sweet ending… it made me cry.
From the outset, readers are introduced to Kate Kupid, an endearing protagonist whose quest for love is both relatable and heartwarming. Her physical and internal struggles made me root for her throughout the book. I loved the suspenseful subplot which kept me turning the pages, but most of all, I loved the sweet ending (which I won't spoil)! Gideon sure redeemed himself!
What an emotional and beautiful love story. Katie always creates such touching stories and it’s so effortless getting lost in the pages. I fell in love with Gideon and Katie so quickly and it was a rollercoaster ride following along with them. I loved all the suspense woven into the story which made it so addicting to read!
Katie Kupid is a single lawyer in Hawaii for her best friends wedding and meets a sexy playboy on the beach...daydreaming about him for a year Gideon is the last person she expects to show up in her office. The son of her deceased client. Is he the jerk she thinks he is or so much more. I really enjoyed this book, romance intrigue and more.
This story has a lot of danger, action, suspense and a lot of romance thrown in keeps you turning the pages until the very end looking forward to reading more books from her,God bless you
Katie Mettner brings another great read with Calling Kupid. If you like romance mixed with danger and suspense, you are going to like this quick read. Gideon and Kate are complete opposites, but as they say, opposites attract. I was rooting for them and their relationship.
Book 17 of 2026 was “Calling Kupid” by @katiemettner . This is my third by the author, and I loved it. One of my favorite things about Katie’s writing is her inclusivity of characters, striving for representation, where it is needed. This story specifically introduces us to Gideon & Kate- Kate has a literal broken heart and Gideon comes with baggage, that Kate isn’t sure she can handle. Come for the will they won’t they, stay for the suspense of a stalker, the quirky folks in Snowberry, and the beautiful Hawaiian islands. 5 out of 5 ⭐️. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Fabulous! Great characters, love the chemistry between them and the suspense from the unknown stalker. Highly recommend reading this series and other books by Katie Mettner
Loved this romantic tale! It had mystery, romance, a little laughter, some tears, and crime. Something for everyone! I can't wait to read the others in the series.
Good book. A lot of love for all characters. Romance and personal growth is a nice thing and the suspense the last few chapters is a surprise. 5 Stars.
