We. Have. A. Bisexual. Protagonist. In. A. Shoujo. Romance.

I may finally rest in peace.

That might seem dramatic, but bisexual representation is pretty rare, and good bisexual representation's even rarer. So when I finished this volume and realized readers were FINALLY getting good bisexual representation, best believe I was stoked. Granted, this volume was solid all around. I love the cast so far, I love the drama/conflict, I love the art style, and I love the romance.

I don't really have any complaints, this was a lot of fun to read and I'm so fucking pumped to read more. If you're looking for a fun and funny rom-com with good representation, give this one a read.

This was unnecessary information to share but I was watching The Rising of the Shield Hero and was in the mood to read shojo manga afterward. Then, I saw the Kieta Hatsukoi video on Tiktok for the second time and realized I have the manga with me! So, I finally started this and I’m never more glad that I did.

My Love Mix-Up is a sweet and endearing story on how misunderstandings inspire to love growing between Aoki and Ida, two high school boys. Aoki has a crush on Hashimoto, but when he borrows her eraser, he notices Ida's name scribbled on it. His despair at realizing he has no chance against Ida is swiftly replaced by shame when he drops the eraser and Ida sees his name.

I never found any books that give justice to the miscommunication trope. I always, ALWAYS, ended up hating them. But trust me, if this is how a miscommunication trope will be in a novel, I wouldn’t mind one bit! The whole story from the start was hilarious and adorable 😭

The conversation and narration are as intricate as the artwork throughout. Aoki had to deal with the kinds of doubts resulting from his new ✨ gay ✨ urges, in addition to the emotional anguish that comes with being a teenager. There is a wide spectrum of emotions at play, from reluctance to rage to hyper-sensitivity to ecstasy. It was so fun to read that part of him [protect Aoki at all cost!]

Not to say, all the other characters are equally pleasant and multifaceted. None of them were set as antagonists which I like that the mangaka could nuance such issue in a light atmosphere. The dynamic between Ida and Aoki was also well accentuated that it will leave you wanting more, especially the unexpected plot twist at the end 😭

Though marked as shoujo manga, if you’re in for a potential fluffy BL love, you should definitely have this picked up!

When I learned about the live adaptation, I became intrigued. Because it's currently on television, I'll take my time reading the manga.

This is a love triangle including a gay, bisexual, and straight person. And it all began with a misunderstanding that made me tense and irritated. The artwork is lovely. Aoki is funny.

It gives me major Ao no flag vibes.

Aoki as Cinderella was so cute. And that ending wait what??

Volume 2 here I come.

OMG!!!

Aoki has a crush on Hashimoto, who sits next to him in class. One day his friend Aida, Akkun for short, refuses to lend him an eraser, so Hashimoto does...and when he takes off the paper sleeve, he finds that it says "IDA" with a heart! Realizing that this must mean that Hashimoto likes Ida, who sits in front of him, Aoki freaks out and drops the eraser - which Ida picks up. In order to save Hashimoto's secret, Aoki pretends that he's the one who likes Ida, and then Ida takes him seriously and wants to "start as friends" while he figures his feelings out, at which point Aoki starts to fall for him for real, which feels like a betrayal of both his feelings and Hashimoto's...except that isn't that eraser superstition about how when you wear the person's name off the eraser they'll like you back? And who is that who refused to lend Aoki an eraser in the first place...?

This book, despite only really focusing on four characters, has enough love geometry to put Marmalade Boy to shame. It's silly, ridiculous, and absolutely a ton of fun. In large part that's because Ida isn't upset that another boy likes him, nor does he just reject Aoki out of hand because "ew, gay." There's an earnestness to all of the characters that's really charming, and even when Aoki realizes that Ida's a great guy and he might really be falling for him, all it takes is two people reminding him that there's nothing to be ashamed about to walk him back from believing that he's "weird." It's a comedy with its heart in the absolute right place and I'm really looking forward to how Aoki will make his own life more difficult (and how Hashimoto and Ida will talk him back) in the next volume.

Also, this has another one of Viz's great ratings explanations. You'll be relieved to know that "no cinnamon rolls were harmed in the production of" My Love Mix-Up.

Omg, that's literally one of the cutest and most lovable things I've ever read!

Aoki, bisexual and thoughtful king. Hashimoto, such a genuine and pure-hearted person. Ida is effortlessly authentic. And Akkun—or should I say Aida—is such a very fun and interesting guy. I didn't expect to tear up to be honest. My heart is full! I feel youthful, damn.

This was so cute!

I love mix ups and this was one of the cutest ones! I love Aoki as a character and his chemistry with Ida is beautiful! Ida’s so sweet and so kind and genuinely open minded in hopes of sparing Aoki’s feelings. I had no real clue what this story was about when I picked it up from my library but I definitely need to check out volume 2! ❤️

This is AMAZING!!! I loved this so much, and the potential for this series is amazing!! I cannot wait to see how things go for these characters.
We have a boy who has a crush on the girl sitting next to him. He borrows her eraser one day, and she has one of the classmates names on it. Said classmate sees their name, and he covers for his crush, saying that the eraser is his. From here, we have him trying to set his crush up with the guy who thinks that he has confessed to him. It's adorable!
The art is amazing, and I can't get enough of the dynamic of the two guys! Can't wait to see what the future holds for this series!

Ok, this was cute and very chaotic and funny! My Love Mix-Up! is the story of Aoki, a guy who has a cute crush on his classmate, Hashimoto. But then he finds out Hashimoto has a crush on Ida, this really cool, nice guy who is also their classmate! Everything gets more tangled up when Ida picks up an eraser and finds his name written on it with a heart on the side. He thinks Aoki wrote it down so now Ida believes Aoki has a crush on him oh my god.

This hilarious romcom has a love triangle that actually IS A LOVE TRIANGLE! I believe the endgame is m/m so!!!! *let's hope so* I wanna read volume 2 already omg it's gonna be awesomeeee, that ending *eye emoji* I loved the friendships so much too.

This was a great beginning to a new shoujo manga. I wanna see where it goes, so I'll keep you updated with that!

About halfway through this book I was in full eyes-rolling "JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER AND IT WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS" mode, but an unexpected second half, some nice twists, and likeable characters redeemed this book for me. The series is not going to go to the top of my to read pile, but it is a nice entry in the LGBTQ romance manga ranks.

An odd romance that starts with a standard romantic triangle amongst oblivious and angsty teens then starts to veer into "Three's Company" screwball territory before settling into something that prods at heteronormative assumptions.

The library has a couple more volumes so I'm going to give them a try.

It has been a LOOOOONG while since I got THIS giddy and kilig over a romance story! The giddy level I was in was “stomping my feet on my bed while clutching my chest and trying not to wake everyone in the house with my screeches” and I was floored by how much I really enjoyed reading it!

My Love Mix-Up was able to showcase a lot of tropes, one of which could be really annoying and could make a or break a book when not executed well (*cough cough* miscommunication trope) by making it uber fun to read! The characters are high schoolers so they can be pretty dense but in an adorable way 😭

This is pretty fast-paced (whose romance may seem “rushed”) and had a lot of coincidences and twists that are pretty typical of a romance story.

If you’re looking for a feel-good romance story, specifically BL/Yaoi, that has the following tropes, read this ASAP:

Love triangle/square???

Crossdressing (potentially gay) guy**

Miscommunication**

Pair of himbo (potentially gay or bisexual) and a funny, happy-go-lucky idiot (also potentially gay)**

School festival where all the romance and action happen**

On top of it all, this was so hilarious, like laugh-out-loud kind of funny. It was the right decision to pick this up on a Sunday when I was really dreading the upcoming work week. It really made me forget about my worries and is the very definition of escaping reality. It’s the kind of book that you’re meant to simply enjoy and not nitpick every flaw and detail. I love it so much and I highly recommend it!

4 stars. Starting My Love Mix-Up!, Vol 1 both rekindled my childhood love of shoujo manga and reminded me that sometimes, reading about gay and awkward teenagers falling in love is all I need.

My roommate let me borrow this one the second he finished reading it and said that I would love it, especially the ending...and he was not wrong! This was so cute and such a solid first volume in a series that I'm so excited to continue reading!

The second I finished watching it, we watched the first two episodes in the live action drama (the only two that are currently out as the series is still airing) and it's basically already caught up with the first volume. Therefore, I'll probably continue watching and will know the story via the drama before I continue reading the english volumes as they are published. But I don't mind consuming this story twice!

It so cute and funny and I can tell it's going to be a new favourite!

That was hilarious. One of the best mix-ups I've come across. And that ending? Phenomenal. I'm diving right into the next volume.
