Perfect Tree

This is definitely sweeter than it is filthy dirty but I did like it. 😍 There's some drama with Calla's twin sister but the real story is her meet-cute with Dougal as she figures out how to get her tree home and just how perfectly they fit together. 💝

It's very insta-love with a dose of heat for good measure. 🔥💜🎄 There are also some reminders about what the holiday is truly about - love, family, forgiveness.

I was secretly hoping for a bit of Santa kink. 🎅🍾 I'm not disappointed that it was an unfulfilled desire but now I'm craving it and I'm going to have to find some elsewhere. 😉

A silver fox meets a Christmas grinch while Christmas tree shopping. An adorable meet-cute!

Calla has her reasons for the bah-humbug attitude about Christmas. And sexy Dougal, helps her find joy and put the spirit back in the holiday.

Dougal is so kind and caring and patient, so willing to make Calla happy. He was the strength she needed to finally stand up to her family members once and for all.

I enjoyed this fast-paced, Christmas read! It was more sweet than filthy, but I’m good with that.

Ummmm...

I loved the story, but was waiting for the filthy part to happen. The meet cute was so on point, a so called Grinch(Calla)at a Christmas tree lot. I loved the description of the Dougal. Their romance was so sweet and a bit of a slow burn.

Such a cute & sweet insta-love Christmas romance. Calla and Dougal meet while Christmas tree shopping & there’s instant sparks between the two. They spend the rest of the holidays getting to know each other. Calla has a bit of baggage when it comes to her family. It’s entertaining to see the drama play out as she finally decides to deal with her trauma. This novella can easily be read in one sitting, so great for those who just want a quick festive read.

Our Hero, Dougal, is the perfect book boyfriend and Calla is definitely a lucky girl!

I loved the low key Christmas vibes, the sexy Santa look-a-like and even the family drama that took a turn for the better! It delivered all the feels and I have a feeling I'll be re-reading this one again before Christmas!

Calla is known as the Grinch for her lack of Christmas cheer so this year she decides she's going to go with the flow and buy a Christmas tree. Maybe then, people will lay off the bu-hum-bug jokes!

When she bumps into Dougal, the tall, muscley (did we mention bearded?) Dougal, she's knocked over by the instant connection to feels to him and vice versa. For the first time in a long time, Calla is feeling the magic of Christmas and with Dougal, she's becoming a believer!

I definitely was getting some Daddy Dom vibes off Dougal and Calla was just such a sweet heart! She let people see her shyness and anti-confrontational personality as a weakness when she is anything but.

This steamy Christmas read left me with all the feels and I highly recommend this one. Santa Claus is Coming is part of the Filthy Dirty Christmas bundle!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Extra (Spoiler-y) Info :

MC ages: Calla is in her mid t late 20s and Dougal is in his late 30's-early 40's. Described as a mature salt and pepper haired older man.

Triggers/Pet Peeves
Sharing: None.
Voyeurism: None.
Outside Drama: Calla has a toxic family dynamic where she is overlooked and overshadowed by her selfish twin sister. She does cause some minor drama (but H quickly puts the breaks on that!) and the epilogue shows her a changed person - who might have a book of her own?!?

Calla and Dougal's Wonderful Christmas . . .

I was so used to the delightful Zaftig series Jane Fox writes that I automatically grabbed this book to review. I was completely uncomfortable seeing the full title (my reader copy did not have the part in parentheses) with the words “filthy dirty Christmas”. That is never a good combination for me. But I should have trusted the author. This was a cute story with likable characters, and it was humorous and relatable.

Calla Tompkins, in an attempt to get back her Christmas spirit, drained out of her by years of family drama, has decided to get a Christmas tree – if she doesn’t freeze to death first. She is tired of being called The Grinch. She picks out a tree, hoping it will fit in her apartment. Then she finds a lumberjack-type guy and tells him she wants to buy a tree. The man is certainly grouchy for one who is supposed to be spreading Christmas cheer. When she takes him to the tree, he calls it “puny” and asks if she is sure she wants that one. Yes, she is now offended. Even though she had also had doubts, she would buy it just to show him he is wrong, still hoping it will fit in her apartment. She asks if he can deliver it tomorrow and he scoffs, telling her to load it in her car like everyone else has to do. No, a 5-foot tree won’t fit in her car. Could she chop it in half and reassemble it at home? Then a warm, friendly voice asks if everything is okay. He even smiled at her! Then he offered to tie the tree to the roof of her car as he carried it over for her. He introduced himself as Dougal Ross. They exchanged phone numbers in case she needed help getting it inside her apartment. And he paced for a half hour, waiting for her to call.

Dougal finally texted her to see if she was okay. She texted back that she could not get the tree off her car, so he asked for her address and said he would be right there if she would allow him to help. To his delight, she accepted and added the condition that he stay and help decorate the tree! He is so easy to be around, and she knows she really likes him already. He brought the fixings for Irish Coffee and some pastries they can share while they decorate the tree. It looks ever prettier than she had hoped. She turned to him and he kissed her. Her hands moved over him, but he gently stopped her. As much as he wants her too, he won’t take advantage since they both had been drinking. And she’s okay with that – because he is worth waiting for! Will this turn into a real relationship? Could she possibly have found a man she can love forever and who loves her? There really is something magic about Christmas!

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Calla hates Christmas, she has a valid reason, but she tired of everyone calling her the Grinch so she decides to get a Christmas tree. The guy at the lot is an even bigger grump than her and doesn’t help her once he takes the money for her tree. Dougal sees her and offers to help. The attraction between them is instant, he helps secure her tree to the roof of her car and even offers to help unload it at her place. She declines not wanting to take advantage of his kindness but Dougal gives her his business card and tells her to call him if she needs help. Thankfully she texts him right back so he has her number because she doesn’t call and anxious to hear from her he texts her. He goes over to help bring the tree in and helps her decorate it. After a few cocktails Dougal to Calla’s disappointment does the gentlemanly thing and leaves her with sweet kisses. He wants both of them sober for their first time together, swoon! After a wonderful date with Dougal, drama and the reason she hates Christmas, her twin Lila shows up. Having been kicked out by her boyfriend she’s going to crash at Calla’s apartment. Calla has always been second to dramatic Lila, all the gifts she ever got for Christmas and their birthdays were from Lila’s wishlist never Calla’s. Lila notices Dougal and makes a play for him, by sending a text to him from Calla’s phone pretending to be her inviting him for drinks. Thankfully he is totally committed to Calla and brushes her off, when Calla catches on to what’s happening she arrives at the bar. He takes Calla home with him so she can be away from Lila. Their first time together is sweet and sexy with I love yous. The next day she confronts her sister who apologizes. Epilogue with them married and expecting, Calla has a better relationship with her sister and parents now.
Dougal was so sweet to Calla, two kind sweet people who deserve good things falling in love.

Learning your value can take someone else sometimes.

I really liked this short Christmas holiday story. It was entertaining and enjoyable with a couple of exceptions. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Calla’s parents and sister annoyed me. I wanted to smack all of them. Lila’s actions would have been enough for me to cut her off. Dougal was amazing. He was protective, sweet, and caring. Calla was definitely his priority and he showed her what she deserved. Calla was drawn to Dougal. She fought with herself a bit before letting him know that she returned his feelings. They were so wonderful together and I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

A Steamy Christmas Quick Read
Jane Fox’s “Santa Claus is Coming,” part of the multi-author Filthy Dirty Christmas holiday novella series is sweet and steamy, but not as naughty as I thought it would be. With that said, I REALLY love Dougal and Calla! Dougal is a sexy silver fox who also happens to be so caring and loving. Calla is gorgeous, and while she has some major family baggage (don’t we all?), she still manages to be sweet and kind, and that absolutely calls to Dougal like a siren. Calla’s twin sister on the other hand...kinda wanted to punch her. Loved this adorable little holiday quick read, and I can’t wait to read the rest of them!

Really liked this book. Calla had let others ruin Christmas for her, but she was determined to celebrate this year. When she meets Dougal at the tree lot, she’s attracted to him. Dougal is instantly attracted to Calla and does everything he can to show her how special she is. Loved how he made her feel like she was the most important person to him. Loved the confidence that gave her when dealing with her family.

Loved it, it was so sweet and this couple is the cutest. Calla has spent most of her life being a Grinch and not loving Christmas but when reading more into the story the reason just made my heart ache for her. Then there’s Dougal, he is the most patient and kindest man that just perfectly matches Calla to make this story flow for a nice winter read.

Wonderful!! This was a nice quick, short read.

Dougal and Calla meet when they both go Christmas tree shopping. Calla can’t figure out how to get her tree home and Dougal offers to help her. She invites him to help her decorate her tree. Calla never showed any Christmas spirit. She has a twin sister and everyone always catered to her sister, her parents always got her what her sister wanted. After they are drinking they begin to kiss, he tells her he doesn’t want to take advantage of her. He gets a ride back to her apartment to pick up his vehicle. He knocks on her door, when she answers he tell her how beautiful she is. He bought her a rosemary Christmas tree and tells her he thought of her. He tells her he wants to take her out to dinner later that night. He takes her to a restaurant that looks like any other on the outside, but when they walk inside it looks like a winter wonderland. They talk about their families over dinner. They go on a short, romantic walk through the park near her apartment before he drops her off. When they arrive at her apartment her sister is waiting for her. Her sister needs a place to stay because her boyfriend kick her out, she caught him cheating on her. She tells Dougal and he tells her he owes her a half date. Her sister asks her if she is dating the hot guy she was with. Her sister tells her she can’t keep a hot guy like that happy. Two days pass and he doesn’t hear much from Calla. When he does get a message she’s invited him to a near by bar. When he arrives he doesn’t see her car and figures she walk or got a ride. When he steps inside he doesn’t see her but finds her sister. Her sister tells Dougal Calla couldn’t make it so she send her to keep him company. He tells her he should go, when he turns Calla is there. He asks her if she knows what is going on, she tells him she came when she seen the message her sister sent on her phone. He ask her to come home with him and she tells him ok. She gives her key to her apartment to her sister and tells her they’ll talk later. He shows her around his old Victorian home. She asks him if he did all the work and he tells her he had a lot of help. When she gets a glimpse of his Christmas tree she can’t believe he has a tree just like hers. They step under the Mistletoe and kiss. He tells her he’s wanted her since he first laid eyes on her. They head to his bedroom, he tells her he doesn’t know how much longer he can go without her naked. She strips out of her clothes and she tells him she wants to see him naked too. He tells her she can see him touch him he’s all hers. Then he drops to his knees and asks her if she’ll be his. His fingers press inside her, he doesn’t stop or slow down. He pulls out and tells her he wants to be inside her. She pulls his boxers down and releases him. She uses her tongue to swipe across his head tasting him. She takes him into her mouth massaging him with her tongue. He stops her and tells her she's too good for him. He lines himself up at her entrance and presses into her. When she comes back to her senses and turns to face him she tells him she loves him. She tells him she is sorry she knows it’s too soon. He cuts her off tell her he loves her too. The next day he makes her a big breakfast and wakes her. He walks her over to his tree and she see all the presents under it. He tells her they are all for her, because he loves her. She tells him his present is at her apartment. She tells him being with him makes her the happiest she has ever been. He takes her to her apartment, and tells her he’ll be with her to confront her sister. She goes into her apartment and tells her sister she’s let her bully and take advantage of her kindness for too long. That it ends today and she won’t allow her to disrespect her anymore. It’s their third Christmas Eve together, it’s finally snowing outside. Dougal puts a protective hand on top of her belly. He tells her next Christmas they’ll be spending it with their baby. He tells her he thought their wedding day was the happiest in his life, but seeing their child for the first time is going to top it.

My favourite of this series...

My favourite of this series... I'm going to elaborate on that for a moment in this review; I often love these multi - author series and mostly because they have my favourite authors in this sub genre that I enjoy their collaborations Gen fold... That being said, how much I "love" each of these colllab-series varies, but I can usually guarantee which books I'll like the most as they generally are products from my favourite of the authors in the group. And he's this author is in my fav list but bellow what I expect myself to like more from authors intent to hold to a higher enjoyment standard. That why I'm explaining here 'the why', because we a hold this series has been OK, and that's usually alright , or to be expected; but as it's describe as a series that's supposedly be " more heat and apiece to accompany the West holiday linked theme" I've been fairly underwhelmed; and more so by the books written by authors I expect to deliver as they will on when they aren't writing in a group, particularly where the expectation of spicy heat and sweetness this series promises because I know those authors can deliver on this fronts based their individual works, and that where this series has disappointed me the most, because even though I enjoy low heat story lines in general, is he losing it I said I wasn't looking forward to those authors who do write on the sexier end of the spectrum in these groups, not only failed to deliver in that department but as a whole their stories seemed phoned in, so here I'm reading with these expectations, and being let down two fold so thats the crux of this review ...I'm

Because it heavily is in relation to and expectation sliding scale so to speak when I comes to his I'll decide to review of enjoy books; and I can say where author that I generally prefer over this ones simply based on their normal spice level in comparison, in this story, not only did Jane Cox deliver her expect heat level but she exceeded what I come to expect in her with the depth of character and poor along with heat in a series where I found most author's including my favourites have failed on both counts to do, I had to leave this review trying to explain here.... Because like i said.

Santa Claus is Coming, part of A Filthy Dirty Christmas, was about 28-year-old Calla Thompkins, a kindergarten teacher, and Dougal Ross, the owner of Ross Construction and Restoration.
Callie wasn't someone who enjoyed the holidays mainly because of how she was treated in the past. But wanting to avoid the usual criticism she would receive for not having the holiday spirit, she decided to decorate for Christmas. While picking out a tree, she met the most handsome, silver-haired man she'd ever laid eyes on. After introductions were made, Dougal assisted her in tying her tree to the top of her car. They exchanged phone numbers after his offer to help her further was graciously declined. However, later that evening, he couldn't wait any longer and messaged her, only to find out she was having trouble getting the tree inside. Once again, he offered to help, and this time she accepted.
After the decorating was done, the spice level kicked into gear, but Dougal didn't want to press his luck so he called a halt to things and went home. The next day, he asked her on a date, which she accepted, and while on that date, he asked why she didn't enjoy the holiday since she definitely loved everything about it. When she explained about having a fraternal twin sister who was extremely competitive and made her life a living hell growing up, he understood.
As the date was ending, he took her home, only to find her sister on her doorstep. She learned from Lila why she was there, and she knew her life was just about to take a nosedive because her sister was going to make it a living hell...again. Which she did.
I loved how both Dougal and Calla handled the situation. They didn't shy away from it, nor did either of them walk away from each other. They handled it quite graciously, although I thought Lila needed to receive more of a comeuppance than she got.
This was an awesome, but too short, story. It had just the right amount of angst and drama, but it had too little spice. However, it was a great book and one that received a four-star rating. I would have given it five, but I wanted there to be more to the story.

Finding the perfect Angel to top his Christmas tree

Santa Claus is Coming by Jane Fox is part of the multi-author A Filthy Dirty Christmas series. This is an insta-lust turning to love story which delivers on enough heat to keep you nice and hot while reading. Calla Tompkins turned twenty-eight a couple of months ago and works as a kindergarten teacher. This Christmas she is going to try and get into the spirit of the season even though she have not enjoyed it for a long time, if ever. He "Grinch" ways come from the way her family dynamics work around her overbearing and pushy fraternal twin and parents who just cave in. So the first thing for Calla is to buy a Christmas tree to put up and decorate at home. Her experience at the tree lot has not added any Christmas cheer for her but that is about to change when a sizzling sexy silver fox offers to help her out and then gives her his digits. Dougal Ross owns Ross Construction and Restoration company and is still single. When he went to pick out a Christmas tree at the tree lot he was not expecting to find his Angel at the same time. He grabs his opportunity with both hands and goes all in quickly. It seems this Christmas Dougal is going to unwrap a present that he will never want to return or exchange and he is going to give the present of love for a lifetime to Calla. Now the only thing will be dealing with Calla's twin when she makes an unexpected visit and puts her eyes towards Dougal also.

I enjoyed this fast-paced, insta-lust/love, older man/younger woman romance. The story-line is nicely written with some drama, lust, smolder, family, the holidays and love. The characters are a bit OTT but that is part of the fun of this story. This is a great addition to this series by an author that I really enjoy.

This was most definitely sugary sweet instalove Christmas fluff. The silver fox on the cover is definitely giving off Santa vibes and the title definitely reinforces that notion.

He isn’t Santa though, which is a good thing because I don’t think mrs. Claus would approve. The loose frame work here was unnecessary and irrelevant. Aside from her inner musings and telling Dougal that she wasn’t into Christmas there was no actual evidence that she wasn’t into Christmas.

The book starts with her a tree lot trying to decide if she should buy a tree even though she doesn’t like Christmas. She meets Dougal and he’s very sweet, polite, helpful and respectful. He helps her with the tree and the rest is pretty much history lol. It was a sweet story though.

Story 4/5, Heat 1/5, Angst 0.5/5

Slow burn, this is a 69 page novella but it’s still a slow burn. They don’t get sexy until around 70%.

No condoms, no virgins, no manwhore, no push away from either, no OM drama, slight OW drama, no breakups, 2 days separation but they aren’t broken up. No cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA.

Safety- this is pretty safe. The h’s twin sister attempts to first bully the h into giving her H’s number then tricking H into meeting her for a date. H thinks he’s meeting the h. H isn’t interested and immediately goes to leave, his actual h shows up, she knows what happened and they leave. She ultimately gave her sister an ultimatum to stop being cow or she’d be done with her.

DNF @ 84%

Yeah 84% because that’s when they finally have sex. I had to throw the towel in because what could have been a steamy scene was ruined by the cringe dialogue — this was throughout the whole story, people don’t talk this way in real life. It was very robotic — and the actual scene was awkward to imagine.

The story was weird… 1000% insta love which I don’t like in contemporary romance, and for sure not in a novella.

I will say a dude walking up to a chick that’s alone and offering to help her without being asked was sketch. And giving his number so she could call him if she needed help getting the tree into her apartment was creepy. Add to a dude checking his phone every 5 minutes because she hasn’t called was bothersome. Then texting to check on a chick he talked to all of 5 minutes was pathetic. And finally going over there — that same night — to help her decorate the tree. Oh! And of course he brings alcohol with him… stranger danger. This doesn’t matter though, Calla has zero preservation.

The conflict was the sister was unnecessary drama. But it was the dialogue that pulled me out of the story.

Also, the title and cover do not make sense for the story. It’s like the author thought the model was hot and the title sounded Christmasy, but what it did was set up expectations that would not be met.
