Theo You might be asking yourself how a guy like me ended up on a fashion reality TV show. You may also be asking why I agreed to be a designer’s apprentice with no intelligible sewing skills.
Cake.
Delicious, fluffy, flour-laden, sugary cake—the beginning of my downfall.
If it weren’t for that cake, I’d have never bribed Mai Sakamoto for more. We’d have never developed a friendship. I wouldn’t know of her dreams to become a fashion designer. And I’d sure as hell would never have ended up on a reality TV show to help her chase those dreams.
Real knight in shining armor moves, right?
Our friendship was a match made in heaven… before the show put us up in a one-bed hotel room.
Now my lines are blurry and I can’t help but wonder, could Mai be my perfect fit?
Mai Every day I’m battling imposter syndrome, anxiety, and abject terror—and why? Is it for prize money? Fame? The opportunity for my designs to be seen around the world?
Nope.
It’s because of Theo. Beautiful, hilarious, frustrating Theo.
Theodore Garrett believes in me. He believes I’ve got what it takes to win this crazy competition. He quiets the doubts in my head, pushing me toward my dream life. Only, I don’t know how to tell him that my dreams don’t include fashion shows and exclusive lines, and instead feature… him.

Frothy and fun read that has a touch of deeper questions or issues touched on, while keeping the overarching tone light and the read quick.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and both are experienced (both had been celibate for an unnamed time though both had been trying to date since becoming friends).
Some tropes/themes: ☆ Queer rep ☆ MMC with a prosthetic ☆ FMC with anxiety ☆ Friends to lovers where both eventually developed small crushes on the other ☆ Fake relationship but was it? ☆ Positive friendship group ☆ Slow burn ☆ Some wax play ☆ Reality TV ☆ Fashion industry ☆ Challenging yourself to find/pursue your passion
I liked Mai (h) and Theo (H) with their banter and clear adoration of each other. Loved that the author included texts they had between them as chapter headers. Their story was sweet but did often stay surface level or glossed over sections that could have gone deeper. The premise of fake dating for a reality tv show to pursue Mai's dream was engaging. The reality show scenes were good, but did fly by. Their work together and how well they rose to each challenge made them eventually admitting about wanting more from their relationship feel more authentic too. They were effectively almost dating anyway without recognizing it and the show pushed them to be official. And also get into bed. Where they also worked well together.
I've only read the first book in this series and I remember liking it. I think that one sometimes felt a little dry when the author was trying to be informative and that was the case here in little spots that were more noticeable because of the tone shift. The friend group is excellent with their support of each other.
I didn't love the third act conflict, but I did enjoy how the author resolved it (esp showing comeuppance for a particular pair) and how Mai's dreams and opportunities were realized. No third act break-up, the conflict is external to the relationship they've embraced, it's about the show. The ending is HEA with a proposal, an update on Mai, and insight into how Theo is pursuing his own dream.
Thank you so much to Evie for both ebook and audiobook arc copies of Darn Knit All. This is my honest review in exchange for those arcs.
This was absolutely incredible. The all access series is one of my favourites and this book is no exception. I could not put it down and I am so love with Mai and Theo.
Theo is very much a golden retriever, and I love him for it. I also love that he has pain and cramps after his amputation, and that's not hidden. Mai has anxiety and panic attacks, and is also good at basically everything. Together they are amazing. They understand each other and what the other needs when they are having a hard time.
The text conversations were hilarious. They are also narrated in duet, but the rest of the audiobook is dual narrated. The narrators are honestly incredible.
Darn Knit All was so much fun! I devoured this read in one sitting and just love Evie Mitchell’s writing!
Theo and Mai are best friends who end up fake dating when she gets accepted onto a fashion reality tv show! Mai is a fashion designer and Theo is her golden retriever best friend. He hears about a fashion design reality show and signs up Mai since he knows she’d never do it on her own…but he didn’t read the fine print and this season the show is actually a couple’s competition! So now they have to fake date to ensure Mai gets her chance on the show!
This was just so adorable and steamy and fun! I was immediately pulled in to the story and loved Theo’s energy and how he brings her little gifts every time he sees her. I’m a sucker for text convos showing up in books and theirs were so much fun and had me smiling as I read them! We get great rep in this one: demisexual and bi rep, he is a lower leg amputee, she’s Japanese, anxiety/panic attacks. I loved the fashion design show setting and seeing these 2 work together on the challenges!
I received an audio ALC for this one, all thoughts in this review are my own!
This story follows Mai and Theo, two friends with a great relationship. Mai has big dreams of becoming a fashion designer, while Theo isn’t quite sure what he wants or where he fits in the world. So, when a reality TV show for couples in fashion is advertised, why not go for it? But can they stay just friends for long?
This was such a cute, quirky, and fun read that made me fall in love with the characters. I’m not usually one for a “golden retriever” type, but Theo’s nerdy, playful banter had me swooning. He is so passionate about Mai and her dreams, while also being attentive to her anxiety. Mai is so sweet but often doubts herself, and that’s where Theo lifts her up. They work so well together.
I’m not going to lie—when we got to the spicy scenes, my jaw was on the floor. I did not expect Theo to be like that. The wax play scene, I was very unwell. I’m grateful for the representation of anxiety, culture, and disability, which really sets this book apart from other romance book. I had so much fun, and it’s a great audiobook that I highly recommend. I’ll definitely be reading more of Evie’s work in the future.

Darn Knit All is a super cute friends-to-lovers story about Mai and Theo. In an attempt to push Mai out of her comfort zone, and knowing she would never do it for herself, Theo signs her up for a fashion design reality TV show. After discovering the show is meant for couples, they pretend to be in a romantic relationship so Mai can compete. As they work together on the show, they start to realize they might have feelings for each other that go beyond friendship. I enjoyed the development of Mai and Theo's relationship. Their strong friendship and care for each other make this a heartwarming story about finding love where you least expect it.
The conversations through text messages make their relationship fun and add a modern touch to their growing romance. I loved how Theo supported Mai through her panic attacks, and how Mai supported Theo when he struggled with the pain associated with being an amputee with a prosthetic leg. The fashion design reality TV show setting was really fun. Although Theo had no experience, I loved how hard he worked to learn and help Mai wherever he could. I also love how she stood up for her when others were questioning and downplaying her skills. Seeing Mai support Theo while he tried to figure out his next steps in life was refreshing. Darn Knit All is a well-written story with great characters, humor, swoony moments, and a sweet slow-burn romance with little drama.
Narration: Natalie Naudus and Liam Dicosimo are 'new to me' narrators. This audiobook was performed in dual-style narration, except for the text conversations, which were performed in duet. Natalie and Liam did a wonderful job bringing the characters and story to life. They expertly portrayed the essence of each character's personality, and I could really feel the intensity and emotion.
Thanks to Evie Mitchell, Lyric Audiobooks, and Must Love Audio for the ALC. Opinions expressed are my own.
“You told me cranes are symbols of happiness, loyalty and strength. That’s you.”
Evie Mitchell did it again😭 I absolutely love her stories, and I’m super happy that we’re finally reading about Mai and Theo🩵
🪡This book gave me a wonderful story with one of my favorite tropes *drum roll* friends to lovers. Yes, for me, there’s nothing better than a good friends to lovers, and this story delivers it so beautifully🥹
🧵Mai is a woman who dreams of becoming a big-time seamstress, but the reality is that her anxiety often holds her back. However, that doesn't stop her best friend Theo from signing her up for a sewing competition. The problem? He didn’t read the fine print when signing up, and it turns out the competition is for romantic couples... So Theo, determined to help her achieve her dream, suggests they pretend to be a couple. What could go wrong? Oh, well, just, you know, realizing their feelings for each other go beyond friendship🤭🤌🏼
Mai and Theo’s story began after Jay and Frankie’s wedding in the first book of this series. They spent four years building a real friendship because even though they knew each other as kids, they didn’t actually become friends until then, and it was the best thing that ever happened to them🥹 I loved the trust, their jokes, and all their moments together. It was beautiful.
I love that, as always, Evie gives visibility to different topics with respect, like Theo and his prosthetic leg and Mai with her anxiety. She also touched on demisexuality🩵
So, if you’re looking for a sweet friends to lovers story with minimal drama and a group of friends that feels like family, this one is definitely for you🥹 Read this series for a better life, short books with spice and lots of representation on different topics? Trust me, you’ll want to read it🫵🏼
Huge thanks to Evie and her team for the ARC! You made me so happy, and I’ll definitely be waiting for Flo and Ren’s book, which looks like it’s going to be amazing🌸
This was cute but unfortunately for me after such a long wait for Theo & Mai’s story it didn’t quite live up to the first two books in the series. However the audiobook narration was stellar and definitely kept me engaged to the end.
What I did especially love were the text convos between Theo & Mai that showed the profession of their friendship over the past four years! They really had a solid foundation, filled with banter, shared interests, and genuine friendship. So when their fake dating starts to feel a bit more real, it happened so naturally it was like a long smoldering flame sparking fully to life.
The “villain” side plot was a bit unnecessary imo. But if you were an OG fan of Project Runway (like me) then you will really enjoy the setting of this story amidst a reality fashion competition show.
*I received an ALC copy of this book, all opinions are my own*
Yess!! Mai and Theo were so adorable, i could hardly deal with it. Their chemistry was off the charts from the first page. I was hooked, line and sinker. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I sat here giggling, kicking my feet and grinning like chesire the cat.
This one was my absolute favorite of the series so far! I loved, LOVED the text exchanges between Theo and Mai. You could tell how amazing their friendship was. Theo and Mai complimented each other so well. They supported each other, where they needed it most, and challenged one another to be the best versions of themselves. Theo is such a golden retriever. His character was so relatable in the aspect of not knowing what he wanted to do with his life. I also really enjoyed his goofball attitude. Sense of humor is always a plus. Mai overcoming her fears and continuously learning to manage her anxiety was just amazing! She's so creative and cares deeply about her friends (like all the characters do). Everything she does, she does with intention, and I love how she ended up being the best advocate for herself. Evie Mitchell writes inclusiveness so well, and that's one of the many reasons why I love this series. I'm so glad Flo and Ren will also get a story of their own because I've been rooting for them since book 1!! I honestly thought they were already an item! I'm looking forward to their story so much!!

What I Loved
Characters
This book just gave me a vibe. I loved Mai and Theo so much. They were both so sweet together, and each had a fun story to follow. The supporting characters in this book were great as well. I love the friend group in this series a lot. I love how supportive most of the characters in this story were of each other. There were some fun sibling scenes between Mai and her brother Ren in the book that I loved.
Plot
I’m not really one for books with a reality TV element, but oh man did I love this one. The TV show plays a big part of the story, but it wasn’t the entire book which was why I loved it. At its core, this book is a journey of Mai growing more confident in her designs, and Theo supporting her dreams which I loved.
Writing
I read this series a little out of order, so this was my second book by Evie Mitchell. I enjoyed Knot My Type, so I signed up for her ARC Team just to see, and I loved this one. I loved the Duel POV, and experiencing the story from both Mai and Theo. The banter was fun! I loved the inclusion of text messages in this book, it was an additional way the relationship developed which I loved. There were some very real discussions in this book, particularly surrounding anxiety which I loved. Darn Knit All is the perfect mixture of humor and heart.
Rep
This was the first book I’ve read with a prosthetic user which I loved! There was great mental health and anxiety rep in this story which was one of my favorite things. Mai was Japanese, and I loved how she included her culture in her clothing designs.
Romance
This book had me from friends to lovers, and then I was along for the ride. I love a good forced proximity romance, and this one had a great way of the couple being forced together. One bed is never a bad thing in my book, and I loved the way one bed played out in this book.
Darn Knit All Book 3 in Evie Mitchell’s All Access series
Mai and Theo are narrated by Natalie Naudus and Liam Dicosimo, respectfully. The audiobook is done in dual narration, except for their text exchanges which are read in duet narration. A+ narration, I knew it would be going in. These narrators are amazing in every book they read.
Characters written by Evie Mitchell feel like regular, normal people living their normal lives with normal every day stresses and obstacles and it makes you, as the reader, root for them and their successes and love story that much harder.
Mai is a fashion designer, Theo is her golden retriever best friend who puts those he loves first. Theo hears about a reality tv show for up and coming fashion designers and signs Mai up knowing that she’d be too anxious to sign herself up. But he didn’t read the fine print where the application said it was to be a COUPLE’S season this time around and so they decide to fake being in a romantic relationship. Being friends for years, Theo recognizes his feelings toward Mai have grown and change, but since he doesn’t think she feels the same, he figures this is his chance to “act” like they’re together. Over the course of the show, Mai who is demisexual, realizes that somewhere along the way Theo shifted from friend to crush and doesn’t know how to navigate the waters when he’s such a good actor.
Darn Knit All is a sweet and (at times) spicy book that sucked me in and I listened to it all the way through it one shot in on day. I didn’t want to pause it or put my phone down, I wanted to see these two crazy kids find their way to their HEA.
This book had Disability representation (lower leg amputee), anxiety/panic attack rep, bisexual and demisexual rep, Asian rep (Japanese FMC)
CW: difficult familial relationships, mentions of drug and alcohol abuse, physical medical conditions, mental health concerns, mentions of car accident where inebriated parent crashed resulting in MMC’s amputation.
The All Access series has stolen my heart, and this book struts right in! Mai, a fab fashion designer, has her trusty sidekick, Theo—her golden retriever BFF. When Theo sniffs out a reality show about fashion design, he signs Mai up, fully aware she’d never leap into that spotlight herself. Oops! He missed the fine print: this season's all about couple’s competition! Now, they’re faking a romance to give Mai her big break on the show!
Theo is the ultimate golden retriever, and I can’t help but love him for it! The fashion reality TV backdrop is the cherry on top of this wild sundae. Sure, Theo’s a newbie in the fashion world, but his enthusiasm for learning and helping Mai is truly heartwarming. Together, they’re a dynamic duo, reading each other’s vibes like pros during the drama.
And let me tell you, this audiobook is a treat! With Liam Dicosimo and Natalie Naudus’s stellar dual narration, it’s like a party for my ears!
Things to know He falls first, bisexual MMC, anxiety rep, one bed, fake Dating, demisexual FMC, friends to lovers, prosthetic MMC, Asian fmc, slowburn, interracial couple, found family
Mai is a designer who has recently been entered into a fashion design competition by her best friend Theo, who is determined to push her out of her comfort zone. However, it becomes a lesson on the importance of reading the fine print! The competition is for couples, which Mai and Theo are not. But what if they were, or at least pretended to be? But when filming begins, they’re forced to face their true feelings for each other and decide whether it’s worth the risk to take a leap and become more or to stay in the comfort zone of their friendship.
I really enjoyed this book! I have had many Evie Mitchell books on my TBR for years and am so glad I finally read one! The way that Evie writes wholesome, inclusive relationships that are still full of spice is phenomenal 🩵 The anxiety and physical disability representation was beautiful, and as someone with both anxiety and chronic pain issues, I felt so seen. I can’t wait to go back and read books 1 and 2 in the All Access series. And a little shoutout to the explicit verbal consent - it’s not a feature I see in a lot of romance novels, and it was a really lovely inclusion 🙌🏻
I don’t even know where to start. I really enjoyed Mai and Theo’s friends to lovers saga. The chat threads between them creating a core foundation for what was clearly more than simple friendship. Throw in some forced proximity and things are bound to come to a boil. These two truly know one another, support each other and care deeply even before they realize their love. I agree with the description of Theo as the ultimate golden retriever energy, he’s such a sweet puppy. But boy do things het up when his dominant hungry wolf comes out to play. There were so many moments to be treasured throughout this story but what truly hits home is the representation. This story is a pure cornucopia of representation. Seriously, the amount of minorities represented in this story is beautifully empowering. Truly everyone can connect with some element or another. Very well written, great character content and a beautiful love story.
“I watched as Mai’s breath caught. “Paper,” she murmured. She glanced up. “That’s you.” I nodded. “And the crane?” “You told me cranes are symbols of happiness, loyalty and strength.” I touched a hand to her hip. “That’s you.””
I waited for them and I would've waited for everrrrrrr theomai my kids my boobears my beloveds.
this series is so underrated and idk why when they have such fantastic characters, amazing group friends, full of love and banter, comfort and a way of making you feel seen.
I have to accept theomai had my curiosity from a while and the next and last couple too, I can't wait to be with them again.
““By now you’ll have started panicking. Don’t. You’re brave, Mai. You’re a lion, a tiger, a fucking bear. You are a warrior and a worrier—and both serve you well. But don’t let the worrier win when courage should triumph” I closed my eyes, centering myself. I could do this. I can do this. I am doing this.”
This is a fantastic addition to the All Access series. We get Theo and Mai’s story along with cameos by the beloved friend group. This is told with Evie’s signature blend of heat, sweetness, and humor that I’ll honestly never get enough of.
Also common in Evie’s books is diverse and thoughtful representation because everyone deserves HEAs! Theo is bisexual and a prosthetic user and an absolute golden retriever of a man. Mai is demisexual and lives with anxiety.
They’ve been friends for years and we get to see bits of that friendship play out in text messages at the beginning of chapters. I love a modern day epistolary romance. But there’s also reality tv, fake dating, and only one bed. Truly so much trope-tastic fun!
**Thank you to Evie Mitchell for gifting me an ARC. The review is my honest opinion.**
No Knitting Involved I'm grateful that I got an early copy of this but there was something missing and I can't put my finger on it. Theo was the definition of Golden Retriever energy; silly, fun and Mai's biggest cheerleader. Mai is anxious as heck and struggles with it a lot. Theo signs her up for a TV fashion design TV show, not realising it's for couples so he jumps in as her fake boyfriend so she can participate. I loved the representation and the texting banter. It was cute and fun but I didn't love it the way I wanted to.
Tropes -Friends To Lovers -Brother's Best Friend -Fake Dating
I loved this book! It's the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. I adore Theo and Mai, they're both amazing characters. I could really relate to Mai and her struggles with anxiety. I felt so seen while reading! There's just so much awesome representation in this book and it's all done really well. I also enjoyed the artwork sprinkled in, it's so cute. This was such a heartwarming story, I highly recommend it!
I saw this image from a different book within this series; The stupidity of a man having an “unexpected underwear kink” made me want to abandon the English language all together. Sadly my library did not Have that one available so I rented this one instead….I think this book gave me a midlife crisis
I just love the characters Evie creates. I love her shamelessly smushy storylines with such a steadfast dedication to representing real-life, not-always-pretty feelings.
As a dark romance lover, “light” romance doesn’t anyways get my motor revving if ya catch my drift. This just proves that Evie writes her novels in a way that effortlessly pulls you in & keeps your attention from the first to the very last page.
Theo & Mai were so lovable, the “friends with sexual tension” banter was top tier, & the subsequent payoff was 😛🤌🏼
It’s so hard to do friends to lovers well. I appreciated seeing the friendship and how important it was to both of them. Theo is the best kind of cinnamon roll.
Tropes: Friends to lovers, one bed, demisexual heroine, disability romance, anxiety representation, Own Voices, small town, reality tv show, fish out of water, slow burn, golden retriever / anxious pigeon
Darn Knit All is the long-awaited next book in the All Access series. I was so excited to read this as I loved the other books and was keen to see Mai and Theo get their HEA.
Evie Mitchell didn't disappoint with this sweet and spicy story about best friends realising they're in love. The development of their friendship is so lovely and Theo is just a gorgeous human being, loving, pushing and supporting Mai as she needs.
Darn Knit All is set in the Capricorn Cove world so it's fun seeing characters from previous series pop up.
I loved the funny text exchanges at the beginning of each chapter and they helped to reinforce the feeling of a long friendship history between Theo and Mai.
As a hobby seamstress, I also loved that this is about a fashion designer and the book actually describes some of the construction of the garments.
And of course, being an Evie Mitchell book, you can be assured that there will be some kinky times and that you will never see a tape measure quite the same again.
Thank you Evie Mitchell for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I didn't realise how much I wanted a low-angst romance. And the third act conflict is not a breakup, thank God. Theo and Mai's friendship-turned-relationship felt real, grounded and sweet. This is the best book in the series so far imo.
This is my favorite book of the All Access series so far. I loved Theo and Mai. I always love a good friends to lovers novel and this one did it really well. I always really enjoy how Evie Mitchell touches on different disabilities, and I think she did this one really well. Although, I don't have them, so I can speak to the representation. I really really want to read the next one. It seems like it's going to be a really good one.
Thanks, Evie and Must Love for the advanced copies.
The All Access Series has been a favorite of mine and I was waiting (rather impatiently LOL) for Mai and Theo's story and Evie delivered! It's hard to write a convincing best friends to lovers story and Evie managed to take us through this perfect journey of two friends figuring out that "it's always been you".
Mai is a a fashion designer who suffers from high anxiety. Theo has been her best friend for quite a while and her biggest cheerleader. So when he sees there is a reality TV competition for up and coming designers, he signs her up. Well, he hasn't read the fine print - it's for couples, so it's only fair that he joins her, pretending to be her partner. What if he can't sew to save his life?
Being there for each other, having to deal with the pesky "one bed" situation, they will find out that they mean more to each other that they thought...
I loved loved loved this one! Theo is an adorable golden retriever who loves Mai's cakes and will do anything for her (and for anyone he loves). Mai adorably shy (not with Theo!) and you want to hug her and be her friend. The text convos are a hoot and their relationship (and how it turns into more) is the stuff of swoons!
I loved the audiobook! Natalie Naudus is perfectly cast as Mai, conveying all of Mai's feeling and vulnerabilities flawlessly. Liam DiCosimo is lovely as the adorable Theo. Kudos also to how "accessible" the audiobook is. It's very easy sometimes to get lost while listening, but every text convo is marked as such, every picture is described. Perfection!
I can't wait to go back to Capricorn Cove and spend more time with this lovely group of people!
Representation: bisexual MC, amputee, anxiety, Asian MC (Japanese), demisexual MC
Content notes: references to medical issues, anxiety and mental health, difficult familial relations, bullying, financial issues, references to drug and alcohol abuse, references to a car crash resulting in loss of limb
