Luckily, it doesn’t take much social confidence to plot a massacre. All you need is an ancient ancestral grimoire, a shameful obsession with demons, and the proper motivation. Check, check, and check.
Yep, I've raised a demon from Hell. The first person that dared to summon in three hundred years. I gave him my eternal soul and in exchange he gave me a vicious bloodbath.
The world knows me as Beauty, the coven massacre slayer, and I'm stuck living out my pathetic life at the supernatural prison, Dreary Isle.
Now I have a savage demon magically chained to me--petting my hair and rasping in my ear how he wants to kill me. I've also got Max, my frustratingly platonic best friend who I’m responsible for getting locked up. Then there's my broody leprechaun with mischievous eyes, who makes a lot of flirty promises--including escape.
Lastly, there's the warden. He's insane and has a grudge against my ancestors. A devil owns my soul but the warden is what frightens me. He's something more heinous than a violent demon...
He's a psychotic god.

In this book we meet Callista who's mother was killed by the coven leader. With this we see her summon a demon to take her revenge of the person who killed her. From here we see some crazy twists and turns and with her best friend Max and the demon ABrax behind her what will be the outcome. Especially when they are being used by an individual to what ends you will have to read to find out the answers. Totally recommend this book I couldn't put it down
I devoured this book. I couldn’t stop reading it because I just wanted to know what happened next. There were many things I loved about this book, but there were other things that made me pause. It was an interesting read, and I’ve never read anything quite like it before (that being a good thing). I’ll start my review with the things that could use some improvement:
1) The Transitions While the plot was interesting and it made me want to keep reading until the end (I did read it in one day), the transitions between scenes could be confusing at times. At times I would have to go back and reread the paragraph before, wondering if I had missed a sentence or a break in the text. Sometimes I had, but other times the change in scene was quite sudden.
2) The Plot I did say the plot was interesting, but it went in a direction I wasn’t expecting. As soon as I began to love where the plot was going, it would close-line me with a new twist. And while some of these changes were good ultimately, it made me sad that I was missing out on those other opportunities for a juicy story. But this is probably an individual thing, so I wouldn’t necessarily call it a thing to be improved upon.
On to the things I loved about the book:
1) The Relationships I LOVE the relationship between the demon and the MC. Their interactions are perfect and I wouldn’t change it in any way. The demon is perfect. He’s everything I wanted him to be and more! His complicated feelings about his situation just add a depth to the story that we wouldn’t get if he was a true monster. I also love the relationship that the MC has with her brother. You can tell they’re very close, and I certainly wouldn’t mind a short story about an interaction between the two before the events of the main story.
2) THAT ENDING Can we just... appreciate the ending? I won’t spoil anything, but I have to say that I love where this is going. It was unexpected in a wonderful way. It was also an amazing way to bring the book to an end without completely alleviating some conflict. All I can say from here is....
THERE BETTER BE A SEQUEL. CLIFFHANGERS WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME.
I thought this was an OK read. I liked the main characters and where the story seemed to be going. But it was also far too slow a burn for me. I don't just mean for my preference, either. The slow-slow burn made the book feel like it dragged, not hitting the expected plot points when expected. (There is no sex, for example, because no relationship has progressed far enough.) And while that isn't necessarily bad, there wasn't really enough other stuff to fill the void. So, it felt a little mid.
All in all, however, I liked it enough to try and buy the next one in the series. Unfortunately, there isn't one, and isn't likely to be one. The author appears to have pulled it from publication and has it listed on her website as something she intends to re-edit and re-publish, but she has no ETA for when that might happen. (And obviously, there is also no apparent work on the rest of the series.) So, I suppose here ends my Faustian adventure.
Callista is out for revenge after her mother is murdered, so she decides to summon a demon. Callista is initially pretty clueless and seems to think that after the demons kills the peoples she wants, she can just walk away. But instead she ends up in prison with the demon she summoned (Abrax), her best friend (Max) and a leprechaun (Salmon). The warden is crazy and can she really trust her therapist? I liked Salmon - he’s sweet, but kind of flaky. Abrax is hot but resents being summoned, and is kind of innocent when it so,es to attraction. Max - I’m torn on - he’s her best friend, but he also keeps some secrets and seems a little judgmental. I kind of felt bad for Abrax because no seemed to really give him a chance. The end has some bit twists - I’m looking forward to book 2, so hopefully it’s out soon!
I have been hesitant lately in accepting review requests. I haven’t come across a new one in a while that the story, characters, pace and everything came together to make a really compelling read. Then I get two requests at the same time and both books just blew me away! Marie’s Suddenly Summoned took me a minute to get into the story, but once it hooked me I was gone. I loved the pace of this exciting prison romance! The story line was not one that I have read a hundred times and though at first Callista annoyed me with her being afraid of everything, she came into her own towards the end and I liked her much better. The forbidden romance was naughty and super hot! I loved this story and I can’t wait for the next book! I give Suddenly Summoned 5 stars! Thank you for asking me to review!
I received this book through Voracious Readers Only in return for an honest review.
This book took a few pages to get my interest but once it did I was hooked and couldn't put it down. I enjoyed watching the growth of Callista as she developed from a timid wallflower to a hardass prepared to help fight for those she loved and revenge wrongful actions towards her. I also particularly enjoyed the growth of the relationship between Callista and her summoned Demon. But mostly I enjoyed the unpredictability of the story. In this novel Bradford gives the reader a plot I have never read before full of twists that keeps the reader guessing at the ending till the very last page and hoping eagerly that a sequel is in the works. Very happy to give this 5 stars
Suddenly Summoned starts off slightly bloody and yes there are dark parts throughout it as well. Still the relationship between Witch Callista (FMC) and the Demon she summoned Abrax is a multi-facted one. One that starts of hateful and becomes one of trust with elements of funny moments and some slightly steamy ones too. Abrax is big, brash and blood thirsty but hes naive about most things. The group chats especially the one about sex had me cracking up so much!! Salmon (A Leprechaun) is so flirty its hard not to like him and Max (friend and focus of unrequited love) has a complicated relationship with Callista. Its one hell of a book and that was a flaming great ending too. I cant wait for the next book (i hope there is one??) This one was so good
It's a slow-burn in this prison romance. Upon the death of mother, Callister seeks revenge for her murder and summons a demon met out her vengeance. Once the murdering spree is over, she and her bound demon land in prison but it is there she comes into the hands of the sadistic warden with a centuries old grudge against her family and a lifetime to take it out on her. Secrets come forwarth and she will never be the same.
This ends in a cliffie and the plot is definitely stretched to the Mac with all the sexual tension between all the characters. Will see where it all goes
Callista is a demon summoner, a type of witch hated by other supernaturals. When her mother is murdered by the leader of their coven she summons a demon to take vengeance for her. Abrax Azal is not happy to be called but agrees to Callista’s deal - her vengeance for her soul. Sent to prison for their crimes they end up tortured by a sadistic warden and plot their escape. This is an interesting take on demon summoning and I liked the concerns about her changing after the summoning and Abrax’s reluctance about his destiny. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
I would like to thank the author and the Booksprout website for allowing me to read this book.
It features Callista who is a demon invocator. Yes, she has summoned a demon and in three centuries she is the first to do so. She gave her soul to him and made him a bloodbath. Since then she has been in prison the supermax in Dreary Isle. She's going to make a friend Max and it's because of her that he's there.
I immediately hooked on the story so addictive, captivating, full of suspense and twists with endearing characters. Can't wait to read the book two.
This book has a little bit of everything and is not what I had expected. It is well-written and suspenseful. When Callista’s mother is murdered by the leader of their witch coven, Callista makes a deal with a demon to get vengeance. Abrax Azal agrees to Callista’s deal in return for her soul. When she is sent to prison, we meet her odd assortment of guys in her reverse harem. And worst for us to meet is the psychotic warden who hates her because of her ancestors. Grab your copy and hang on for the rough ride!
This book started off a little whiny but the story had great potential. Unfortunately it just remained potential. The main character never grew or evolved - she stayed almost child like but knee it and never moved past it. Characters popup and disappear with no explanation, I often would turn back a page just to make sure I didn't miss something. I think 3 stars is generous because writing is hard and the bones are good but I won't move forward b with the series.
The story line was great and the book had a great flow to it. I thoroughly enjoyed the character work that was done for this book. I was amused and entertained greatly by Callista and Abrax from their very first meeting. This was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Suddenly Summoned: Paranormal Prison by Marie Bradford is absolutely a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read and I can not wait to read the next one in this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

I got a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review. I only read about two thirds of the book so I've decided not to rate it.
What I liked: - The story was interesting - The writing was good - The world building was solid
What I didn't like: - A few aspects of the story didn't really make sense to me - This is just personal taste but to me, 80% of the romance felt completely out of place
Evil covers demon summoning and revenge. Calista has vengeance on her mind her moms dead so she summons a demon one not very happy about things but he agrees to her deal in exchange he gets her soul she gets prison time and a really jerk for a warden she also gets her own harem of equaly twisted men. Book ends with a twist.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
I may come back to this, but for now it's a dnf for me. I read to about 20% and then skimmed the rest of the way reading the end to see if I wanted to spend the time finishing. I lost interest in the beginning mostly because I didn't like any of the characters. The demon was too ... I hate you ... And the MFC was too weepy and week. The guy best friend was an ok character, but he definitely gets the rough end of the stick.
This was a total slow-burn romance, and I didn’t get any closure. The writing was good (as per usual for this author) but it didn’t captivate me like some of her other books. It was interesting, but since it ends on a cliffhanger and it doesn’t look like there will be a sequel, I can’t really give it 4 stars since now I’m stuck in limbo and need to read some more books to drag myself out.
Well, this is a genuinely stupid heroine. She’s not just “tstl”, it’s not irrationality it’s a genuine lack of intelligence. Most of it is bearable but towards the end of the book it became too much for me. I like the idea though and it was intriguing how the demon was uninterested in her in the beginning.
Because I love Beatrix but it’s been 2 Years since she started this book . And there’s no second book and that is infuriating. I shouldn’t have even read it. I can’t stand when authors do that. Whatever MAYBE we’ll get a book in 3 more yrs by that time I’d have forgotten. * rolls eyes*
Interesting read. Callista summoned a demon to avenge her mother's death but when you make a deal with the devil things go wrong. They both end up in prison & he is forced to defend her even though he hates her.
I love this book. It was definitely a page turner. The relationship between the summoner and the demon worked so well. There's danger coming at them from so many directions and they their need to survive helps them coexist. The ending was great! I can't wait for the sequel.
This is another Paranormal Prison series so I had to try it, I've never read this author before but i am definitely going to follow the rest of the series..
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received this book complimentary from voracious readers only. I really enjoyed this book, the plot was unique and wonderfully executed. Very well written and despite the subject matter, the author made it relatable. Definitely a recommended read!
I loved this book! The sexual chemistry between the Summoner and her Demon is great. After enacting her revenge using her Demon, they both end up in a supernatural jail with a crazy God warden. They need to escape fast!
I liked this. It had an interesting group of characters, and a fresh take on Demons. This is the second book by this author I've read, and they were both very original. I'm really hoping we get book 2 soon.
I really didn't like her interaction with her so called best friend. If it wasn't mentioned multiple times I would've thought he was just someone who was around but not a friend. He was nice to her and caring, she didn't really have the same thing back
I can’t wait to read book two! I really like how this book turned out and I gotta know what happens next. I feel slightly bad for the villain but also not, I hope his family will be alright but him not so much.
