Wednesday Wilson #2

Wednesday Wilson Fixes All Your Problems

Rate this book
In this second title in the early chapter book series about everyone’s favorite young entrepreneur, Wednesday Wilson is only trying to help her brother when her latest business idea strikes! Sometimes the best business ideas pop up when you least expect them. Or that’s what happens to Wednesday Wilson, anyway, the morning her brother, Mister, locks himself in the bathroom because he’s nervous about a school presentation. When classmate Emmet convinces Mister that a worry stone will calm his nerves, Wednesday offers Mister her marble — with the promise that a Worry Marble will fix all his problems! But then Wednesday starts thinking about just how many things kids get nervous about. And, hmm, she does happen to have a whole collection of marbles. Has Wednesday just hit entrepreneurial gold? This is the second title in the early chapter book series by Bree Galbraith that follows the ever-evolving, but always entertaining, antics of girl entrepreneur Wednesday Wilson. The highly engaging series encourages ingenuity, creative thinking and resourcefulness. It’s also loads of fun! Wednesday’s enthusiasm and energy and her one-of-a-kind take on the world will delight and inspire. Short chapters enhanced by Morgan Goble’s illustrations along with lists and clever business-themed definitions help bridge the gap for emerging readers. Wednesday has two moms, one is Black and one white, and the story features an expanding diverse cast of BIPOC and disabled characters. It also contains character education lessons on initiative and perseverance.

Bree Galbraith is a children's book author from Vancouver, BC. She will graduate from the University of British Columbia with a master's in Creative Writing in the spring of 2020, and will add this to her master of design from Emily Carr University, and hopefully be done advancing her education ... at least for now.

Bree writes the kinds of books that she would have wanted her children to read when they were young. With one pre-teen, and one early teen, her kids noticed a lack of representation in media when they were growing up. As children of mixed race, they felt they weren't seeing themselves reflected in a book, and now work with their mom to add their voice to her work. Growing up on the campus of an art school helped her children speak critically about identity from a young age, so Bree is lucky to have them on board for this career!

Her recent work focuses on the idea of little heroines breaking down power structures and creating change. She writes strong characters who are fed-up with the status-quo in their mythical universe, and use their power and ingenuity to ignite change. Her work has been described as having a contemporary fairytale vibe, and she uses metaphor to allow space for parents and educators to discuss different ideas that spring to mind in their children/students.

She is always looking to connect with authors and educators, so please get in touch!

Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the advance reading copy.

I love Wednesday Wilson so much! She doesn't mean anyone harm and all she thinks about making things better.

But things do not go as they're planned and she does frequently goes in trouble. I love this kid so much! Can I just adopt her already?

But her mom and mum would not allow it I know! Such a lovely family I would say. I can understand the parents and the other adult characters. I love the representation. I like the school environment. It's such an engaging and heartwarming read.

The illustrations add charm to the story.

An adorable young readers' book which is engaging, entertaining and fun to read.

Try not loving this book! I am looking for the first book. I didn't know there was one!

A huge thanks to Kids can Press for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Wednesday Wilson is back and I love it! This book follows entrepreneur and girl boss Wednesday Wilson who is looking for her next business idea. I love Wednesday because her ideas spark from her good heart. The author did a wonderful job of bringing tis delightful young woman who also had to deal with mean kids, breakfast she didn't like and class assignments. Enjoyed this book and I absolutely love Wednesday.

3.5⭐️ rounded up simply in comparing it to the others in the series.
I am thankful to have gotten the eARC for free from Netgalley and Kids Can Press so I can leave my voluntary and honest review.

This is the second installment of the Wednesday Wilson books and it is the strongest of the 3. It is a bit more appropriate for the reading level although still a bit older than the target audience. The definitions were a bit more on point as well.

One issue of sorts is that it’s being marketed to a global audience which may be why there is a disconnect as many reviewers are in the USA. For instance Dodge Ball is actually banned in many states in the US but not all. Even where it’s not banned at the state level, many districts have banned it. It’s been replaced with similar games that correct the bullying aspect. However from my understanding and research it still is played in many Canadian schools which is where the books are written.

So does it have universal appeal in mirroring a typical 3rd grader? Not at all . But it may on a more local level.

My rating system for Middle Grade and children’s books

⭐️ Significant problems and would never recommend to the audience.
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea but may have some appeal.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ an ok book which I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend but there was nothing significantly wrong with it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Would recommend highly, especially to school programs.

Thank you Kids Can Press and NetGalley for the eARC to read and review!

Another delightful business adventure with Wednesday Wilson, future entrepreneur!

Wednesday Wilson usually has a lot of big business ideas to try. But lately she’s been in a funk. As she tries to help her little brother, Mister, overcome his nerves about giving a presentation in front of the whole school, Wednesday is suddenly struck with a new business idea: the Worry Marble, guaranteed to fix all your problems..or get Wednesday into trouble once again.

I love Wednesday’s perseverance to see an idea through. She’s earnest, organized, and very persuasive. She has a vibrant personality that draws others in.

Kids can learn important skills from these books, such as basic business terminology, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork. I like how Wednesday, her friends, and brother work together to make a genuine product that will help others.

The illustrations are expressive and bring the story to life in all the best ways. The cast of characters is wonderfully diverse. And I like how the story talks about and celebrates different types of families.

I hope there will be more books forthcoming because this is a really enjoyable series. I love that it’s equal parts entertaining and educational with great lessons to learn. Wednesday Wilson is such a fun character with a lot to offer the world.

Wednesday Wilson knows a lot about businesses, and is always trying out new business ideas. Some are better than others, but none of them have lasted (so far). When her little brother is worried about giving a presentation during an assembly, Wednesday has an idea that will help people and make money! But when you're still a kid, nothing is as simple as it seems.

Wednesday and her little brother Mister are unusual kids. Both of their moms work (that's not it), and one owns a pizza truck Teresaria, so they get a fried egg on a slice of pizza for breakfast every morning. That's what she hates! It's too bad she can help other people, but can't solve her terrible breakfast food problem! (Why the egg isn't served on the side--instead of on top of the pizza--is unknown to me, but an obvious solution!)

Readers of all ages will enjoy the adventures of Wednesday and her friends, and what they learn because this girl is an entrepreneur who cares about people.

4/5 Stars (Lacks common sense and adult supervision, but fun fiction!)

Wednesday Wilson is an enthusiastic little entrepreneur who also just tries to get through school life with her friends and enemies (the Emmas). When her little brother worries about a project related to a family tree, she gets some inspiration for a new business.

I love that this book features a strong, non-white, female character who is interested in business. I think Wednesday will be a fantastic role model for young girls everywhere. The story includes some footnotes throughout with definitions of more challenging or unfamiliar words, usually business terms such as “trademark” but also words like “funk” or “acknowledgements”. I also love that Wednesday’s family is non-traditional and includes both her Nonna and Nonno and I think, two mothers. I think there are many young children who would enjoy this story and see something of themselves in the characters. I would definitely recommend this novel to early elementary teachers or parents of children ages approx 5-9.

I really appreciate the opportunity from Netgalley and the publisher to read and review an advance copy of this book! I am looking forward to purchasing a copy for my students in the future.

A second easy read in this series concerning a young, big-hearted entrepreneur and her friends. Here, one of the kind-of-enemy gang seems too friendly to be true, our title character's younger brother declares he will not leave the school lavatory due to worry over a public performance, and she manages to find a way to dispose of an heirloom collection of marbles while making money. For people concerned about such things, Wednesday and brother Mister are in a two-mother household, and are mixed race, and no end of ethnicities and right-on-ness is featured. So it's a bit awkward when the story of the business adventure (for want of a better word) turns in peculiar ways and really muddles the message. You're left with a pudding of thoughts as to what was right and what was wrong, and it's almost as if the author doesn't know her core lesson, any more than Wednesday herself. Still, this is never going to be an Apprentice episode for the very young, and the drive to a warming kind of success is generally a nice one. Three and a half stars.

This second book in the Wednesday Wilson series is an improvement over the first book. I am happier with the reading level/vocabulary. Wednesday's business idea still shows greediness, but she learns a lesson and it doesn't take her friends long to convince her to be more generous. I felt a little like I was reading about a young Bezos and it's hard to like someone like that. There were some things that just didn't work for me. I worked in an elementary school. Good gym teachers don't play dodge ball anymore. Every teacher that has a class return from a dodge ball playing gym class can tell you what a bad idea dodge ball is. If you want to portray a jerk of a gym teacher, then you have them play dodgeball, but I think the author wanted us to like the gym teacher and the violent game. Also, Wednesday took a poet-tree assignment and turned it into a business venture that didn't include any poetry. She should have been given an F. Lastly, the students are way too nonchalant about a call to the principal's office--especially when they know they have done something wrong. These kids are sneaking things out of the office and back into it like it's no big deal. That's not the sign of a good, likable child. Although this is an improvement to book one, it still lacks likable characters and a true understanding of an elementary school environment.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of Wednesday Wilson in exchange of my honest opinion.

I chose this book because of the cover, I am not going to lie. It caught my eye straight away and I wanted to know more about Wednesday and how she is trying to create a business.

What I found in this book, though, was an amazing story that I will recommend a lot!

The book is fun, quick to read, entertaining and perfect for 5+ children.

It's also inclusive and diverse. I saw black people representation, LGBTQ representation and people with physical disability representation.

Lastly, hats off to the illustrator! I loved the pictures so much!

I became a fan of Wednesday Wilson when I read the first book in the series. Now, I'm an even bigger fan. Bree Galbraith has outdone herself. In this book, Wednesday invents another business venture in her school with her gang of friends featuring Charlie, Amina, Mister, and a new friend, Emmet. I love the little educational messages Bree Galbraith incorporated in the story. Gobbled up the whole book in on hour and one sitting.

Thank you, NetGalley and Kids Can Press, for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This instalment of Wednesday Wilson is a great addition to her narrative. It explores her second venture into business, the expansion of her friend group, and navigating school rules in the name of business. Bree continues her engaging storytelling and inclusivity with her array of diverse characters that are unique and multifaceted. This book series is a great read for all readers young and old alike. I hope Bree continues to bring readers along on more stories from Wednesday and her many attempts at business!

This early elementary chapter book was so cute! Wednesday's little brother, Mister, has a lot of anxiety about a school presentation he has to do. Wednesday thinks of a solution that will help that will help him feel better, and, being business-minded, might also get her and her friends a little extra money!

I loved Wednesday. She's spunky and full of entrepreneurial ideas. I also loved how concerned she was about her little brother.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

Wednesday Wilson is The Bee’s favourite book series by far. She loves a good series and has enjoyed the Lark Ba Detective series, The MegaBat series and The Fabled Stables series but Wednesday Wilson by Bree Galbraith and Morgan Goble is by far and above her favourite.

In Wednesday Wilson Fixes all Your Problems, Wednesday is struggling to come up with a new business idea and she is in a funk. Thanks to her nonno’s special marbles, Mister’s nerves about presenting his family tree and Emmet, of all people, she comes up with a fantastic idea but her execution could use a little finesse.

Wednesday Wilson is extremely relatable to young readers. She’s trying things out and succeeding and failing in equal measure. There is friendship success and trouble in equal measure and family success and trouble but in the end everyone learns something new about friendship, business and community.

I loved how Wednesday uses something gifted to her to help the people around her. Her Nono’s marble collection is very special and selling those marbles to the other children at the school helps them overcome something, fear, anxiety, sadness, etc. Her Worry Marbles help people worry less and they especially give the kindergartners in Misters’ class a lot of courage for their big presentation. Wednesday is reminded that perhaps helping without the expectation of a reward or payment is a better way forward. It’s an interesting thing to explore because Wednesday’s product did work, it helped people but maybe helping people should be something we do selflessly, instead of trying to profit off of the worry and anxiety of others. We are so excited to see how Wednesday will take all of these things she is learning and incorporate them into a new business idea.

Morgan Goble’s illustrations are once again brilliant! Since the readers of the Wednesday Wilson stories are mostly young and emerging readers, the illustrations really help to break up the text and add a ton of interest. Thanks to her appealing illustrations, The Bee is able to “re-read” the story in her own words while she is still becoming a more confident, independent reader.

Thanks to NetGalley and its author for providing me with an advanced copy.

In this second title in the early chapter book series about everyone's favorite young entrepreneur, Wednesday Wilson is only trying to help her brother when her latest business idea strikes! Sometimes the best business ideas pop up when you least expect them. Or that's what happens to Wednesday Wilson, anyway, the morning her brother, Mister, locks himself in the bathroom because he's nervous about a school presentation.

That was what the story says to us, right? Well, it's quite similar, when Wednesday had to help his brother's project, she was thinking about how can they do it. She also thought they were in troubles after it happens something with the kid at school. However, it was the contrary, their idea was amazing and they didn't have to give back the money what they'd sold, Marbles.

Wednesday has a real go getter attitude!

This is a fun book on being an entrepreneur and developing a simple business. Kids can come up with great ideas! Wednesday used her business of "worry marbles" to help others.

My 3rd grader really liked this book and wants to read more in the series! A great book for strong young girls!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this ARC for an honest review, the opinions are all my own.
