Tree of Matchsticks

Rate this book

Ancient secrets. Simmering lies. A deadly expedition into the deep.

The House of Matchsticks is calling …

Lost, frightened, and thousands of feet underground, Isaline is trying to hold herself together. The expedition to find King Faraday’s workshop has begun, and deep in Benemourne’s deadly Adrudian mines, anything can happen. With the help of her companions, Isaline is ready to discover who she is. But lies and forgotten memories are catching up to her.

Jack Fael is no stranger to forgotten memories. Finally on the way to finding the House of Matchsticks, Jack is torn between a new friendship and uncovering the details of his lost expedition. When Adrudian Milk brings old feelings to the surface, past and present threaten to entwine, and Jack finds himself drawn to a discovery that could change everything.

The Collector and Caladrius have been making discoveries of their own. After the events at the palace, the Collector is desperate to leave Isaline and Jack behind. But Caladrius has other plans, and with their friendship on the line, the Collector must decide between the life he knows and a journey deep underground, where something ancient stirs …

In Tree of Matchsticks, descend into a world of buried secrets and otherworldly evil as Isaline, Jack, and the Collector come face-to-face with an adventure that will test their friendships, their romances, and the very fabric of destiny itself.

House of Matchsticks is a third person, multi-POV series with found family, slow-burn romance (straight and LGBTQ+), and a healthy dose of action/adventure. This is Part 3 in the series. Expect unanswered questions.

ARC REVIEW: 😀

Oh my Goodness. I have read so many amazing book this year, but this one blow me away. Tree of Matchsticks is my favorite in the series. This book had the more amazing characters development. All the characters grown from when we first met them. They went from being strangers to a close group for friends that would die for each other. The romance, was so beautifully written there are many times I wanted to cry over how beautiful this treasure hunting found family adventure.

ARC Review!!
Well I can certainly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that this was the best installment yet.
The pacing was great, the character development even better, and it’s very clear that Elisa has become even more confident in her writing since the first book in the series. Some of the descriptions were gorgeous, and the overall syntax was lovely to read.
Clearly. I read it in less than 24 hrs.
I impatiently await the next one.

I found it a little slower than the other two, and at times felt like the group of friends was a little too big (as in, some characters are in the background not doing much and I kept forgetting they were there and what was their reason for being there exactly). But still such a fun series!
I thought this was the last in a trilogy but really liked the way in ended with the promise of an adventure at sea. :)

Just finished series so far…

I can’t tell if I like or hate this series, just as I can’t decide if it’s good or bad.

After reading the first book, I bought two more, so it must mean something. It’s plodding and convoluted style can easily put me to sleep, and has, but I keep wanting to find out the mystery. I just really wish that was the last one. Get some closure so I could move on.

I had to chase these books with other books in order to feel the fulfillment I usually get reading.

I'm glad I finished this series but I still believe that it wasn't the best choice to do three quite short books and split the story up this way. Plus, we don't even get a resolution in this book! Like, is there going to be a sequel??

Anyways, I still think the Collector and the mines and the steampunk theme were a great concept but I don't feel satisfied after reading the whole series.

But! at least we finally got closure on the LGBTQ rep: for everybody who is wondering, the male MC is bisexual, but it's not really a plot point.

Literally guessing this way that of what's around that next page. Character development personally was at a very compatible speed! That familiar feeling when you see a stranger on the street? It's exactly what I felt as I continue to follow along their journey. World building truly has come full circle.
