Books about family relationships provide advice about child rearing to parents. Most commonly the parenting is undertaken by the biological parent of the child, although this might be an older sibling, a grandparent, a legal guardian, aunt, uncle or other family member, or a friend of the family. Parents have varying natural skills for the task, and a parent with good skills may be referred to as a good parent. Parenting styles will depend on the historical time period, race/ethnicity, social class, and other social characteristics. Books on parenting draw on experience and sociological / medical studies for guidance.
