R.A. Scheuring practiced medicine for twelve years before hanging up her white coat to pursue her dream of writing fiction. DRYP: The Final Pandemic and DRYP: Revelation are her first novels. She is busily writing the third book in the DRYP trilogy.

This continues the pandemic, though with most of the characters from the first book now in the same location and with some other new ones who join them. There were some editing issues with missing quotations and other punctuation and some awkward sentence structure. The climactic battle was very chaotic and at times hard to follow. Then it was over and that felt very rushed and to some extent, unsatisfying. I assume there will be a book three since this is deemed a trilogy and there are some unanswered questions.
Where Book 1 told the story of the fall of civilization, Book 2 deals with survivors coming together and the warring between factions. The origin of DRYP is covered and the villain revealed. Book 2 has nowhere the death toll of Book 1, but given 99% of humanity died in book 1, this isn't surprising. Saying more would be giving out spoilers. Looking forward to more R.A. Scheuring, especially DRYP Book 3!
I hope whomever is reading this, is doing so AFTER the third book has been written. Truthfully it’s shocking to find something entirely new in many genres, but this one is a jewel. The characters and their growth and/or arcs are unpredictable but realistic, some of the pacing in other books sacrifice the depth to keep the story moving, and the adrenaline running. I’ve realized that is what this genre does, it amps up your adrenaline throughout. To achieve that while taking the time to build a world and people to place in it, is a stunning achievement. As a further note I’ll admit I don’t like pandemic books. The last time I read one was shortly before Covid. It made the appearance of Covid shocking…and then it wasn’t nearly as bad, as much as one can say that, to the number of people lost in these books. I also don’t do zombies. Further I usually skip any apocalyptic, or post-apocalyptic, books set in California. Being from California I know how difficult it can be to build a world that takes place in California and finds that so tiny sliver of space between too many people fighting over resources, too many people trapped in urban areas, and the lack of water. This author does an excellent job of maneuvering this series through those tight parameters. Definitely recommend!
Fantastic series about the release of an antibiotic resistant plague which killed 99% of the population. As survivors try and make life liveable again. Carlos who designed and released the plague and his brotherhood want to finish killing off or enslaving the remaining survivors. Susan, John, and Herr fight to keep their farm and people alive. Very well written with excellent characters some you want to know like Susan, John, and Herr and others you want to slap or hope they die like Carson. Highly recommend this series and look forward to the next book.
Scary in that one could see the fanatical far right destroying everyone else in an effort to be the last ones standing, therefore solidifying that the only survivors were those that had the same belief system that they did... heartwarming in that survivors existed with their humanity intact... the fact that the cult would wage war to try to destroy the remaining few without regards to whether they were good or not is sad but believable. The destruction...mind boggling.
I did enjoy the first book more, but this one was good. There were a couple of weak spots. To be honest, I found Susan's ability to delude herself annoying. She almost always waited until too late to realise someone was not what she assumed. There was also the climactic fight. John Harr's hunt for Carlos was critical but almost entirely absent from the book. Susan and Alan are mismatched. If there is another book, I hope it will contain a more robust description of the recovery of the natural world.
Fantastic follow-up to Book One in this series. I can’t overstate my gratitude to the author for writing such a real novel of a lethal pandemic and the attempt to survive afterwards. Nothing comes easy to the characters. They have to fight nature, illness, and evil to make it through each day. This is a grounded and powerful novel. R.A. Scheuring has made a fan for life.
I enjoyed this book as much, if not more, than the first novel. It is a rare try thing for me to enjoy a series as thoroughly as I have this one. The writing is absolutely superb! I cannot wait to dive into book 3. In fact, I'm not sure I can wait long enough to finish is rev
Read this book in one sitting, because just like book1 it literally grabs you by the hand and carries you along for an exciting, terrifying and painful ride. We follow along with the stalwart survivors from book 1, meet up with new ones and wonder are they friend or foe and read about the upcoming battle for the ultimate survival. I NEED another book, a part 3.
DRYP: Revelation is fantastic. If it's possible I would say that it is better than the first one The Final Pandemic. When you start reading it it's unstoppable it's like a dam collapsing it's impossible to put down. I highly recommend reading the series. It does say Trilogy but there doesn't seem to be a number three.
Gritty survival story. Parts were actually uplifting, showing the people left alive making a good life for themselves. And other parts were painful, displaying how hard they struggled to build that life. Nice assortment of characters, and some hope amid the ugliness of post plague life.
If there’s a 3rd installment in this series, i will be reading it. There is enough loose end to add another book.
This was a fast, yet an engaging read. lt had me anxious, scared and worried what will happen next. This series started out as a pandemic to a survival story and war between good and bad. Loved it.
FINALLY! This book was a great follow-up to the first. I loved the way the reader got to follow the character arcs and I LOVED the action. I was gripped from the beginning to the end! Even though this book was just released, I’m waiting patiently for the next installation in the series!!
Lots of effective character development and relationship building bring the characters to life. Lots of medical knowledge imparted and explained. A little less brutal than most post apocalyptic novels, but the action is well spaced out and thoughtful.
More about the rebuilding after the fall, working together. Much shorter and less detail than the first book though. Felt like they purposely left the ending off, so they could create a Book 3.
I've rated it a neutral rating, since I dnf, due to increasing profanity. I hadn't seen any reviewers pointing this out, so thought I would, if anyone is interested.
Read the first one then go to the second book, you will not be sorry. Characters and situations excellently portrayed, so looking forward too 3rd book.
