This is the first installment of the 2022 season of The Long Road Home series. No matter the road we travel, it seems our hearts are always Searching for Home. Join the Binge Read Babes on another trip home.
A moment in time can last forever.
Scott Evers's life was on the fast track. As a SEAL Team Commander, he and his men worked hard, played hard, and had the skill set to handle any situation. Until that night. A heartbeat of hesitation during a joint operation shook Scott to his core. A hesitation he couldn’t rationalize or explain. The moment haunted him.
Ciera Gordon was free after a violent US Military operation that saved her and her son. Ready to testify against the men who had abused her and others for years, she needed the government to guarantee their protection.
The Atlanta airport was always insane, but with no one waiting for him, Scott gave up his seat in favor of a later flight when the attendant at the gate called for volunteers. A chance meeting with a woman in the USO provided him a direction and a purpose. Little did he know that trajectory would put him directly in the path of the woman and child he saw in his dreams every night.
USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, Kris Michaels is the alter ego of a happily married wife and mother. She writes romance, usually with characters from military and law enforcement backgrounds.
Kris was born and raised in South Dakota. She graduated many years ago from a high school class consisting of 13 students (yes that is thirteen, eleven girls and two boys...lucky boys). She joined the military, met her husband, and traveled the world. Today she lives on the Gulf Coast and writes full time.
Kris is an avid people watcher and dreamer. The stories she writes are crafted around the hopes and dreams of a true romantic. She believes love is essential, people are beautiful, and everyone deserves a happy ending.
When she isn't writing Kris enjoys a full life revolving around family, friends, laughing, whiskey, and cold red wine. (Yes cold...don't judge.)
Another great book. This is a perfect crossover book. It does a great job of adding to the stories of all my faverite Guardians and Hollister residents. As well as the story of two new great characters.
A moments hesitation changed everything for Scott now calling time on his navy career he needs a new direction. For a mother it was a chance to escape or die trying.
For anyone following the series from the beginning it is great to see old characters progress, but for new readers it is a great jump on point to meet all these people through Scott's eyes.
Hollister gains new citizens. Ciera and her son Cody, hiding from the evil that the Navy Seal team unexpectedly rescued them from, in Hollister. Scott returns to where he assisted Guardian one night, only to find the woman and child he can't stop thinking about were sent there by WITSEC . As only Kris Michaels can, she weaves an amazing tale of action and edge of your seat drama with people we know and love showing up for their roles, and cameos. Keep them coming Kris.
I had trouble getting into this story. Having read other books by Kris Michaels., I didn't expect that. But the story settled down and from that point the story flowed. Things were happening at a fast pace and I'd definitely say it's worth your time. I liked it that Blessing from the USO airport club was again introduced.
So good to have a meet-up with Blessing... and get introduced to the new people that are going to find a new home!
And then... and then... we were in Hollister... couldn't be more happy with that. Loved the blending of many of the characters that we have met before with new ones. And did we just meet some new Shadow World Guardians?
Only real moan... it just ended?! I wanted an epilogue. I swear I feel I should change part of my name to 'Epilogue Whore'... truly, I do!
Blessing is back to work her magic on a new batch of heroes. Scott, a Navy SEAL, has doubts about staying a SEAL after his last mission. With his doubts, a long talk with his father, and a meeting with a mysterious woman named Blessing in a USO, Scott decides to join Guardian Security. Anyone who has read any of Kris Michaels' Guardian books (and everyone should read them - they are freaking fantastic) knows how close knit the Guardian community is and Scott is welcomed wholeheartedly. Of course, there are so many cameos from the Hollister and Guardian crew that it feels like old home week (loved all of the updates). Ciera and her son are quietly adapting to life out of captivity and have been sequestered in a small town. Everything seems to be working out for them until an unexpected person from her past shows up.
It's a great story and I finished it in one sitting. With so many updates for the Seige Part 2, this story flew by. Abso-freakin-lutely loved Joy and Joseph and the Wonder Twins (oh heck - loved all the Guardian cameos). Scott and Ciera's relationship progressed fairly rapidly but with their backgrounds it was pretty much expected. Overall, stop reading reviews and just grab any Kris Michaels book and be prepared to escape reality with her fantastic stories.
This one started out with a bang! I loved how I got pulled right into the story with all the action right from the beginning. Also loved the call names of those involved with this group of men.
We get the story of Scott aka "Vader" and his lady love Ciera who has a very sweet loveable son named Cody. (Cody wins your heart from beginning to end also). Scott and his team rescue Ciera and Cody from a very bad situation not of their making. It was really by chance that Scott's team found her and her son because she was just about to make a run for her own escape. It was good that Scott was the one there and it started them on a path towards each other. They have such a beautiful heartwarming story as they fall in love, and you find yourself looking forward to hearing their HEA.
There was a great excitement level surrounding an attack on Ciera while she was in a bathroom I once again found myself holding my breath as I read. WoW! Then we got one of the best and most beautiful marriage proposals I have ever read. Just the way Scott and Cody handled it, was outstanding! My heart just about melted when Scott tells Cody he's "already his dad". This scene will bring tears to your eyes.
I hate I've been missing out on this series and am now on a mission to own and read them all! You should not miss this one!
No plot spoilers There are some potential triggers relating to kidnap and sexual abuse against both female and child, not in any detail. There are no errors that I can recall. There is some swearing. There are a couple of sex scenes. The characterisation is good, and I would expect that from Kris Michaels, but I felt something was missing from both lead characters. I didn't feel that I was able to connect. Maybe that's on me, I don't know. I can't honestly say that x, y or z is the issue, or even if there's an issue. It all felt a bit forced, and for the first time for me the Guardian connection didn't work. It was nice to see what was happening following the attack but I did feel that Guardian characters were thrown in just to keep the storyline going. That doesn't mean I disliked the book, I enjoyed it and it did fit within the Guardian series and I never turn down a Guardian fix! I will probably read it again and I will purchase more by Kris Michaels in the long road home series. Who doesn't like to see a wounded warrior find his happy ever after?
I borrowed Searching for Home ~ The Long Road Home ~ Book 6, by Kris Michaels, author from the Kindle Unlimited Program on Amazon.
Scott Evers, Navy SEAL Team Comander made the decision to leave the Navy and his SEAL Team when he started questing how he felt about being a leader when he hesitated on a mission. A woman appeared and he didn't react as he and his team was trained to do and listened to her and put his team and himself in danger if she would have been holding a gun. Instead he established that she was an American and she had a son that needed rescued, but he still didn't follow his training.
He went to South Dakota to apply with Guardian and was hired. The women he hired was in Witness Protection in Hollister, the town where he was working. Neither of them could forget the other and they met up in town and Cody and Ciera Gordon became very important to each other as they both, along with Cody became part of the Guardian family.
Lots of patience, action, loving and a really wonderful little boy full of spunk, good intentions and looking for acceptance, safety and love.
Scott Evers rescued Ciera Gordon and her son Cody but had no idea his last SEAL mission would be his last. The mission succeeded but the gang lord would like Ciera dead since she knows too much and Scott had a glitch only he noticed but it made him decide to resign. Scott didn’t like leaving Ciera with the agents but had no choice. Het didn’t know what was next but giving up his seat for the plane was one of his better actions when USO hostess, Blessing sat him with three men also looking for their next direction.
Given a chance to sign on with Guardian Security, Scott wastes no time. An unexpected treat is WitSec located Ciera and Cody in nearby Hollister where she and Cody are part of the community. Despite admiring glances from singles there, Scott and Ciera only have eyes for each other. Then they get a frightening call. Ciera’s identity has been broken! This reader was happy to step into the Guardian universe even for this read, making this outing my favorite. Rating: 4.5stars
This is a wonderful book featuring Scott Evers, whose last Seal mission brings Ciera and Cody into his life. Scott is not sure he wants to stay in the Navy and ends up taking leave and finding himself at the Atlanta airport USO. You can guess our friend Blessing is there with some helpful thoughts and hints on where Scott might find some answers. Both Scott and Ciera with her son Cody all end up in Hollister even though that was not planned. Ciera is there under witness protection and Scott to decide if he wants to work with Guardian. Many of our friends from Hollister and Guardian are seen trying to make this new group feel at home. Oh yes there is some excitement with Joy. The weaving of all these story lines is what Kris does best. The outcome is a WOW I didn't see that coming. Enjoy the read you'll love it.
Another wonderful book from Kris Michaels. I’m loving the Long Road Home series, and was delighted to hear that the authors were doing a second series. I loved how Kris has blended her contribution to the series with her Hollister and Guardians series’s. It was brilliant catching up with them all and finding out how they are rebuilding after the Seige. We get to meet Blessing again and she’s still doing her woo woo magic. Scott and Ciera are great and their story is lovely but for me I just loved meeting up and catching up with all the other characters. It felt like a great family reunion without all the fighting. All in all this is a great book and a fabulous series. I can’t wait to read the next instalment.
Kris Michaels wrote another brilliant book! Scott “Vader” Evers and his SEAL team go out on another mission, but this one is different, he hesitates, and it haunts him enough that he decides it time to leave the Navy.
Ciera and her son, were saved that night. They goes into WitSec until she can testify against the person Vader’s team grabbed for the CIA.
Blessing, who knows more than anyone should, gives Scott some advice that helps point him in the right direction when he’s at the USO in the Atlanta airport. And what happens after is just the right amount of romance, humor and excitement, ala Kris Michaels, including all kinda of folks I loved seeing again!! I’m ready to read it again!
Scott got a taste of the woo woo at the Atlanta airport USO, Blessing showing him around and introduced him to others waiting for their flights, suggesting Holister instead of San Diego, memories of that fateful night, Ciera finds herself and her son in Holister thanks to the U.S. marshals, being a part-time cook at the local diner has shattered dishes and stunned looks between them when they see each other again, the chemistry between them is amazing and sizzling, can they get past the fear, will her son be able to accept him, can anyone keep her safe so she can testify, thank you Kris Michaels for this amazing journey, reconnecting with the guardian crew, thank you, Dana Zamora
Searching for Home is the start of the next volume of books in the Long Road Home series and it features Scott, who was present to help reclaim the Ranch when it was attacked😱
Scott is a Navy SEAL and the commander of his team. When they are overseas on a mission he encounters a woman and her son…and he hesitates. That decision causes him to examine his position and he decides to leave the Navy and gets work with Guardian and heads for the Ranch to help rebuild❣️
Ciera is grateful the SEAL team found her and her son Cody when they did and helped them to escape. She’s not in WITSEC and moving to the small town of Hollister to work in the diner there😍
I loved this story and loved getting a glimpse of Guardian now after the Siege…I love all things Guardian❤️
One frozen moment in time saves more than two lives, it saves Scott Evers life too. He just doesn't know it yet. This book takes us back to the Atlanta airport and the USO lounge where Blessing works her magic to steer Scott in the direction that takes him to South Dakota. His past will meet his future and will be forever changed in a way that only Guardian and Ms. Micheals can make happen.
We are transported back to Hollister, SD where old friends await and new ones are introduced. Ms. Michaels has captured life in small town South Dakota with wonderful characters that stay with you. Ciera, Cody, and Scott are no different. I enjoyed this story and revisiting with old friends while new ones stole my heart. This is a wonderful start to the Long Road Home series.
I love the Long Road Home multi author series and this season two series is just as good as the first, but this book also has a crossover with Kris Michaels' Guardians and Hollister series. Triple the yummy heroes, triple the sassy ladies and triple the family! Who can ask for more? As a SEAL Scott fits straight into the Guardian mindset and Hollister way of life but when he sees the one woman he has not been able to forget he knows he has also finally found home. Ciera is brave and fierce, she refuses to be a victim but re-entering the real world feels very overwhelming. No matter how hard it feels she remains determined and for that she is my hero.
I devoured Searching for Home last night. Ohhhhh, it felt sooooooo good to be “home” in a Kris Michaels book again! Let’s be honest, Siege 1 was the “wringing of our hearts,” in which we worried about our “family” of Guardians. Siege 2 was agonizing as our Guardian family’s home “base” of Hollister and the ranch were soon under attack, and yet they launched an offensive.
In this novel we could enjoy how Fate brings Scott Evers and Ciera together despite all odds, but we also get a glimpse into how Guardian is rebuilding. I love the old with the new. My heart felt right at home last night. Thank you for that experience…
I enjoyed reading this book. It’s a simple and an easy read. Scott and Ciera met very interestingly. And chance or fate reconnects them in the little town in South Dakota, Hollister. It was wonderful getting reacquainted with the characters that live there and the Guardians that live on the Marshall ranch. Scott and Ciera make a good couple and their courtship each other sweet as they get to know each other. This book started and ended with action with sweet moments in between. It’s well written with no angst. Just happy feelings with happy people who are understanding and willing to help.
Great writing. Twists and turns. Caring, kindness.
Kris Michaels is one of the best writers in this multiple author story arc. Her ex SEAL and special operators are realistically taciturn, unlike some others given to sweetly unrealistic verbosity about feelings and weaknesses. Small slices of life about meals and skills and even chickens add depth. Also validation for both the need for mental health counseling and the real world truth that sometimes it isn't without downside repercussions. I also like the. USO thread. Both my parents were Navy and met through the USO happily married more than 50 years. Highly recommended.
I am beyond happy that season two of The Long Road Home has begun and Searching For Home is first up. Anytime I can make a visit to Kris Michaels' Kings of Guardian, I'm there. With a bit of a nudge from the ever mysterious Blessing, Scott Evers finds himself in Hollister and the newest Guardian member. Running into the woman he can't get out of his head, Ciera and her son Cody in Hollister, can only be described as serendipitous. Finding a new home, new purpose and falling in love certainly gives them all hope and happiness.
This was my second book by this author, my 4th in this series. I very much enjoyed this book. I want more from the town of Hollister, from the people at Guardian. This book its about two people who met at a very pivotal moment in their lives. They meet again (thank you, Blessing) and form the romance aspect in the story. They form a family (Love love love Cody) and, although it ends without everything being resolved, their personal journey is at a good stopping point. I'll read it again, I'm sure. 5 happy little hearts and stars
I love how characters are so different and meet under a high stressful situation making a meaningful connection can just both become part of a small town. I loved this story. The author takes these characters with separate issues and brings them together in a very small town of Hollister. What a creative way to also add updates from the Guardian world as well. This story has suspense, humor and romance in a perfect combination that is very entertaining! Can’t wait to read more!
I always look forward to books by this author about Guardian and it's characters She never disappoints Navy seal inadvertently reads a woman and child during a mission . They meet again HoLlister S.D. Love blooms, danger exists, Joy and Dixon have a baby girl. The Annex is under reconstruction Lots to look forward to in hopefully more Guardian books
Home is where the heart is, it is certainly true for Ciera and Scott. Terror and chaos lead to security and a sizzling romance. Thoroughly enjoyed the connection to Guardian Security, as well as the reappearance of Blessing at the Atlanta airport USO. Searching for Home is the perfect start to The Long Road Home, part 2 multi author series. Very highly recommend.
Searching For Home is an awesome start to the second season of the Long Road Home series. It is a series of great stand alone books written by 5 authors who tie their story into one of their worlds. Searching For Home ties into Kris Michaels’s Guardian and Hollister worlds. It is fabulous. Searching For Home is everything that you could want in a book. It is a suspenseful, sexy, romantic page turner. I was riveted to the book, and I couldn’t put it down. Don’t miss this fabulous book!
I enjoyed reading this book, however I did not know it was a clip hanger. The characters are well developed, strong yet vulnerable, likable and the family dynamics is beautiful and caring. The storyline is intense and exciting, the love making is hot and passionate, and the flow of the story is effortless. You will be compel to read the other books in this series because you want to see good conquer evil .
Wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! This one is about Scott and Ciera. Oh I so love that we get to see part of the Guardian team! A lot of surprises happening in the small town of Hollister. This story has been intense throughout the book. So happy for Dixon and Joy. Also for Scott in finding what he was looking for. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would recommend this book.
I loved reading this one. Scott and Ciera met in an unusual way and were reunited by Blessing (I really enjoyed her part…you really need to read it to get it). The Marshall Ranch and Guardian are rebuilding and Scott becomes a big part of the rebuilding. Cody is a sweet child and I loved Scott teaching him simple things that all kids need to know. This book is suspenseful, sweet and leaves you with a feel good feeling.
This was a good read, although quite short. It was one of the missing links in my Guardian reading. It explained how Ciera got to Hollister a took over so much of the diner, and where Scott came from. My question is what happens next? Is Digrassi tried, coded, or just there? Does Ciera get to see her parents? That’s why I didn’t give it a 5. It’s just too big of a loose end. I still feel like there’s something missing. Maybe I’ll find it in the next book.
