Riley Sullivan #6

The Night Game

Rate this book
A series of strange burglaries. The death of a provocative shop owner. The twisted plan that ties them together. PI Riley Sullivan is faced with the daunting task of clearing a young man who has been arrested for the crimes.

As Riley and her investigator partner, Cooper Deagnan, work to investigate the burglaries, they come to learn nothing has been stolen. There doesn’t seem to be a reason why the break-ins were committed – until Riley latches onto one piece of evidence left behind. Even as the evidence explaining the burglaries unfolds, it doesn’t reveal the killer.

Riley’s husband, Det. Luke Morgan, is working to find that answer. But the life of the victim is sordid and the suspect list is long. Worst of all, the case brings Luke face-to-face with a man he arrested years earlier, and his singular focus might derail the investigation. Riley, Cooper and Luke must work together to uncover the plot before the killer slips away and the reason behind the burglaries is never revealed.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

In this latest story in the Riley Sullivan series, Reilly and Luke have just returned from their honeymoon. Luke receives a call and leaves to go to a murder scene. The next day, Reilly and Cooper are hired to clear an individual who has been charged with a burglary. As the two investigators began their investigation, this individual also becomes a suspect in the murder investigation that Luke is involved in. As Reilly and Cooper pursue their case, they learn who was really responsible for the burglaries and why they were done. Even though they find this information, it doesn't solve who killed the storekeeper.

Using information that was gathered and getting a witness to come forward, Riley was able to find the killer. To discover who the killer was, what the purpose of the burglaries was, and what was behind the pursuit of Cooper's and Riley's client, you need to read this book. The ending will surprise you.

Never a dull moment . . .

With Riley and Luke just back from their honeymoon, the last thing either of them wants is a convoluted investigation. Seems it doesn't matter if they want it, they're getting it.

Businesses in town are being broken into, but it looks like nothing is being taken. When a murder happens, it muddies the waters further and things seem impossible to figure out. Until an innocuous piece of evidence provides the string that will unravel the plot.

Once again, Jones is spot on with intrigue and mayhem that makes every one of her books a must-read. Night Game is woven from threads that seem random - until you're finally looking at them from the right perspective. Then, the answers will hit you out of nowhere. I absolutely loved this one, brilliant plotting!

THE NIGHT GAME,
is played by many.
But not everyone,
knows all the rules.

A crime committed,
the pot is stirred.
Becomes a stew,
of questions and answers.

Men and women,
plus girls and boys.
Sleeping barely option,
vital that solve quickly.

Don't stop now,
getting close to solution.
Worth every word,
and indeed every breath.

Another page turner. I enjoyed the story. At first, I thought it was going to be another race-baited story with the typical stereotypes but I was wrong. There was certainly some stereotype activities included, but they were woven into the bigger picture of the story so well that they complemented rather than were the central theme of the story. What really made the reading so fun for me was the number of possible suspects with motive, opportunity, and lack of strong alibi. It seemed like Hercule Perot from Agatha Christie would have to be revived from in order to solve this one. I have read the previous five stories in this Riley Sullivan series, but this one was the most complex mystery so far and I really enjoyed it.

This series always packs a punch! The author very cleverly intertwined characters from one of her other series. It was seamless and made complete sense. It was the perfect synergy of crime sleuthing. Like every other book in this series, you completely get hooked on the twists, the injustice, and the who-the-heck done it! Murder, burglary, and characters you root for and characters you can’t wait to see justice served upon. There is a reason this is my favorite author - unbelievably addictive books!

It's a great crossover between the Riley Sullivan series and the Harper & Hattie series. The book is written from Riley's viewpoint (plus her co-characters) with Harper, Hattie and Harper's partner Jackson making appearances as witnesses in the story.

The series are both set in Little Rock (population about 200,000) and so it's not surprising that they meet.

Loved the scenes of Cooper visiting Hattie's shop.

You will enjoy it.

Another great addition to the Riley Sullivan Mystery series. Riley and Cooper are hired to investigate a string of burglaries to help prove the innocence of one of Adele’s clients. As their investigation progresses it intersects with Luke’s investigation into the murder of a shop owner in the same area where the burglaries have occurred.

As always this is a well written book with great characters and a well crafted mystery that keeps you interested and guessing until the end.

Another great read in the Riley Sullivan series. Definitely can be read as a stand alone book but be warned, if you are new to this series you will be hooked. Even though the books are titled as a Riley Sullivan Mystery, the sleuthing is a team effort of Riley, her husband and her PI partner solving the crime from their own angles. The story gradually unravels the clues and there are a few red herrings along the way just to make things even more interesting.

As soon as I started reading this book one of my main thoughts was it would be great if the Riley and Harper series crossed paths. Well that's exactly what happened this round. This story had so many layers and twists I was guessing til the end like always. Like always these books never disappoints. In some aspects I kind of wish we could have seen Hattie and Harper helping out a tiny bit more on this case but maybe this could be just the beginning? Either way a great book!

I cannot believe this story!! It is sooooooo unusual for a mystery. I have never read a story with this premise -breaking into a business & not stealing anything. It is complicated with many suspects. The ending was a total surprise. I do love Ms. Jones writing in this series. Such a good mystery. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary opinion.

Riley and Luke arrived home from their honeymoon late on Saturday and wanted nothing more than to enjoy Sunday together. But when the phone rang, Homicide Detective Luke went into investigator mode and left for the murder site. This story is full of twists and turns plus includes romance and ends in a HEA. Highly recommended.

Wow!

Another really great book! Riley & Cooper are helping Adele with a new case. Their case crosses over Luke & Tyler's. They all must work together to figure out what is really going on. It's a wild ride from beginning to end. Enjoying this series very much & look forward to reading the next book.

A good read.

Riley came back from honeymoon, only to be plunged into a convoluted case. The characters leapt off the pages and were convincingly drawn as suspects. I enjoyed the cat and mouse game that spread suspicion against most characters.

Circles

This one keeps going in circles with so much conflicting evidence and so many suspects it makes your head spin. Riley and Cooper work one path and Luke and Tyler another. Will they meet in the middle?
