A hilarious Christmas tale that is sure to get everyone laughing!
Santa's Lost Reindeer is a humorous story that follows a frazzled Santa through a search for his missing reindeer.
How can Christmas be saved? Santa's in so much trouble.
With his best reindeer missing he needs help on the double!
The book was a passion project for author Rachel Hilz, mom of two special needs children. It was written and illustrated with her autistic kids in mind and has now become the source of much laughter and joy for them.
"My nonverbal son recognizes himself in the book and laughs out loud at the bright illustrations. I couldn't ask for any better reward." -- Rachel HilzOrder your copy today and let the zany adventure begin!
This book, while ADORABLE and colorfully illustrated with cute and funny characters, had a few issues for me. For a book aimed at kids, the use of the words "brat, fat, lazy, old, dumb" to describe both Santa and the reindeer just wasn't cool. I wouldn't feel comfortable reading this to a young child. 🤷🏻♀️
My word, how cute is this book? I am going into a Christmas book binge lately, I can't get enough festive fun - which is a little odd for a person who is known in the family as Scrooge 🤣 So, yes I was instantly drawn to this even though it is a children's book, but hey it's all good fun and I am so pleased I read this, its the perfect five-minute lift you need to relax. The story is so sweet and very funny, and the illustrations are vibrant and eye-catching, anyone reading this adult or shield will fall in love with this sweet little story. It's written in rhyme, imagine the night before Christmas and you will get the idea. It's the perfect little book for parents to read to their little ones on Christmas eve to really get everyone into the festive spirit and up the excitement for the big day. Overall, I can't say a bad word about this, it's fun and festive and with a great message of kindness and friendship.
Vibrant illustrations with lots of humor and a rhyming text that’s fun and occasionally clunky will keep the whole family engaged.
SANTA’s LOST REINDEER is book 1 in a three book series by author, Rachel Hilz and illustrator, Remesh Ram. All three titles feature Santa and something that’s LOST. In addition to this picture book, there’s an activity book, notebook, journal and Spanish language version of this first volume.
The book displays well in landscape position on my iPad but not on my iPhone ProMax. It’s unwieldy, at best, in portrait position. The only thing I could do to enhance the experience was to explode the view and make each double page into two single views, slowing down the reading process significantly but improving the view exponentially. It’s for this display reason that I gave 4 stars rather than 5📚
What better way to start off the holiday season than reading Santa’s Lost Reindeer to the young ones? With delightfully colorful and funny illustrations, Santa’s Lost Reindeer is the perfect read for family time.
The story is cleverly written in rhyme and tells the tale of a frantic Santa in search of his lead reindeer. Santa’s Lost Reindeer is full of giggly moments and big smiles. Clearly, Santa’s Lost Reindeer has everything you would want in a children’s holiday book — delightful illustrations, and a cute story, all packaged within a sweet and lovable cover. Five adorable stars.
I received a digital ARC from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
I think this is the first time reading a Christmas book, especially one aimed at children, that made me sad. It would appear the true intent of this story is to get little kids to hate Santa and who wouldn't if this is how he treats his reindeer. While the only redeeming quality was that it rhymed, the book was filled with insulting descriptions of the deer...dumb, old, fat, slow, and complaining. However, it was the final insult calling the new, young deer a brat that turned this depressing holiday story into a mean Santa one. The only thing missing was Santa carrying around an empty whisky bottle.
*I was provided an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Here’s a fun Christmas book with an original idea 😃 Santa’s reindeer have seen better days, they’re getting older and it’s about time to get some fresh reindeer to take over. The new reindeer are great and Christmas Eve is going well. Until the leader named Bucky gets spooked by a plane and the group loses him. Now Santa needs to find him in time to save Christmas 😃 with the help of surprised family Santa is able to borrow their four-wheel drive to search for Bucky. Will Santa find him in time? 🎄 Fun book, very professional illustrations and filled with humor. Here’s a great one to add to your Christmas collection 🎁
*Santa's Lost Reindeer (Santa's Lost, #1)* by Rachel Hilz, with illustrations by Remesh Ram, offers a festive adventure as Santa embarks on a quest to find his missing reindeer. While the premise holds promise for a charming holiday story, the execution falls short in delivering the humor it aims for.
The narrative follows Santa as he searches for his lost reindeer, encountering various characters and situations along the way. The illustrations by Remesh Ram are vibrant and engaging, effectively capturing the whimsical spirit of the holiday season. They add a delightful visual element to the book, making it visually appealing for young readers.
However, despite the festive setting and colorful illustrations, the story itself lacks the comedic punch that one might expect from a holiday-themed children's book. The humor feels forced at times, and many of the jokes don't land as intended. As a result, the story comes across as more flat than funny.
While the book may still entertain very young readers with its lively pictures and the excitement of Santa's adventure, it misses the mark in delivering a truly amusing and engaging story. The potential for a heartwarming and humorous holiday tale is there, but it doesn't fully materialize in this first installment of the *Santa's Lost* series.
In conclusion, *Santa's Lost Reindeer* has its strengths in the illustration department, but the story itself may leave readers wanting more in terms of humor and engagement. It's a decent addition to a holiday book collection but may not become a favorite for those seeking a genuinely funny Christmas story.

This was a great story. I absolutely loved it and intend to purchase it for my grandkids. I know they will enjoy it as much as I did - and their parents will enjoy reading it with them.
First, the story itself is cute. It really does make you chuckle. It is sweet and something I feel kids will be able to relate to - the deer getting scared and running off without thinking. Santa's worry as he goes on a mad search for him. It gives an opening for caregivers to discuss why littles want to remain close to their adults even when they get frightened by something unexpected.
Second, it is a lesson in asking for help. I love that even Santa needed help and that he got it from average people. This shows littles that you don't have to be magical or some sort of superhero to be helpful and capable.
Third, the prose. I love that the author chose to write the tale in rhyme. It was witty and entertaining. It will give another layer of enjoyment adults as well as the young readers.
Lastly, the illustrations were a delight. They added to the story and increased the giggle factor. My favorite has to be when Santa defrosted Bucky with a hairdryer. LOL The youngest littles will enjoy pointing things out and talking about the pictures. It will be a fun way for them to discover the story when their attention spans no longer want you to read.
Yes, yes, yes - I do recommend this book. There are many reasons to buy it for your kids. What a wonderful gift!
As much as I wanted to enjoy "Santa's Lost Reindeer" by Rachel Hilz, I found myself deeply disappointed by the portrayal of Santa Claus within its pages. While the premise promises a hilarious Christmas tale, the execution fell short for me, primarily due to the concerning language used by Santa himself.
Throughout the story, Santa refers to his reindeer using derogatory terms like "dumb," "fat," and "brat." As an adult reader, I understand that these may be intended as playful or humorous remarks, but I couldn't shake the discomfort of hearing such language attributed to Santa, a figure traditionally associated with kindness and compassion.
I'm hesitant to recommend a book that normalizes derogatory language, even in jest. Children are highly impressionable, and I worry about the message they may internalize from Santa's words. It's essential for literature aimed at young readers to uphold positive values and set a respectful tone, which I felt was lacking in this book.
While I appreciate the author's intention to create a lighthearted Christmas story, the portrayal of Santa's character overshadowed any enjoyment I might have found in the plot. Overall, "Santa's Lost Reindeer" missed the mark for me, and I would caution other readers, especially parents, to approach it with awareness of its language and messaging.
My intentions of saving this one until Christmas Day were dashed every time I saw this adorable cover and remembered the fun of the newer lost elves book. I think there's one out there, too, about Santa's lost sleigh but maybe I'll save it until next Christmas. The illustrations are colorful and and add to the humor of the situation. Not that it's funny that Santa has lost his reindeer Bucky, he of the bright yellow nose. Seems a jet startled him and he got loose from the team and disappeared. Santa is forced to seek help. Wouldn't you be surprised to have Santa pounding on your door Christmas eve needing to borrow your four-wheeled drive truck? This family certainly is but rises to the situation and the search is on. Will they find Bucky in time? Will the blizzard slow them down?
Fun. That is the best word to describe this book. The illustrations are all fun but I think my favorites, beside the cover, were of the reindeer relaxing in the family's garage, one lounging, some playing with the children's toys, and, yeah, one reading. That said, I laughed out loud while reading it aloud to the dog, my best listener, at the scene of Santa defrosting Bucky with a hair dryer. The rhythmic bounce and easy flow of the story held her attention, so I'm sure it'd do the same for children.
No matter how old you are, there's no way you won't love or fall in love with it.
I am so in love with rhymes when it comes to Christmas books.
There's absolutely no way, I will be able to write the review without having a rhyme or two. 😁
The story's about a new reindeer Santa has bought, but got lost on the way.
He knocked on a family's door and asked for some help, Though it was heavily snowying, Santa still hoped, to find Bucky as fast as he could. With no further ado, they set on the ride.
Thank goodness for his yellow bright nose.
Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. But in my defense, the child in me loooved this book.
This was such a cute novel. The illustrations are so cute and the rhyming is spot-on, one of, if not the, best rhyming I’ve ever come across. It never missed a beat.
The whole idea is such a cute one. Santa’s reindeer had all gotten old so he got a new team. The young lead reindeer with the yellow nose got scared by a jet and went missing. Santa was in pursuit of him and enlisted the help of the boy and his mom in locating Bucky. They head out into the snow and come across Bucky, who’s frozen. They get him back home and warm him up and take off again to finish Christmas.
Such a pleasure to read and look at the illustrations.

Santa’s Lost Reindeer by Rachel Hilz, and illustrated by Ramesh Ram, is a children’s Christmas story focusing on the search for Santa’s newest reindeer Bucky, who got spooked by a jet on Christmas Eve, then flew away to hide.
Told in ABCB rhyme scheme, in the same vein as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’, SANTA’S LOST REINDEER is a quick and cute read with colorful holiday images perfect for the young and young at heart.
My only concern is the small sized text that may be difficult for some.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
The pictures here are really colorful and fun: a winner with a fun story and Santa losing one of his team in the midst of a blizzard. The rhyming is good, not forced, and the reindeer relaxing while Santa heads out with a family in their 4-wheel drive to find Bucky are adorable.
All-around cute, though the print could be bigger for e-book readers.
Here, the old Christmas chestnut of Christmas being in jeopardy and Santa needing help from a willing family of volunteer helpers is nicely dealt with in fun rhyming verse and colorful illustrations to bring the spirit of Christmas (and missing Bucky, the new reindeer recruit) home to kids of all ages, from ninety-year-old grandpa, down to tiny Cindy-Lou.
My great granddaughter came to my room complaining that she bored! At first I said that I couldn't help her. Then I remembered that I had downloaded this book! Well, it was a big hit. She settled down and at the end she turned to me and said " You can read, wow."
We loved this one! A really fun rhyming book with gorgeous illustrations. Always looking for more Christmas books to add to our collection and this one is perfect!
Loved this cute, new story of Santa and his reindeer. We always need a good story with a good ending, it is a quick read for the little ones who still believe.
quirky & fun, i loved it ...great illustrations. like i always say i am reading through KU ...but the illustrations are only in the middle of the book, kindle screen so it really makes them quite small. wish the took up the full screen. must read if you are reading a real hand held book.
Santa's sleigh has a minor accident and he loses his head Reindeer, then gets help from a mom and young boy to find him. Great illustrations, rhyming text, good fun.
A cute Christmas read about the new leading reindeer Bucky (with a yellow nose) who gets lost in the snow after he was afraid of an airplane. Love, joy and gifts are on their way with Santa. The rimes were not necessary in my opinion, the writing should have been more lyric, magical.
It's cute and creative despite the off beat rhyming. A quick mini christmas read , that lacked some adventure. My girls were entertained still which is all that matters.
Santa has a new team of reindeer and his lead, Bucky, with a glowing yellow nose gets lost. He enlists a family to help him locate the missing member of his team. They do so and all is well. Santa is grumpy and the other characters are weakly developed.
