Justin Ragnarson was a happily married man, at least he thought he was until his wife betrayed everything that they’d built together. He was a soldier, trained to endure pain, but he’d never thought that the pain he’d endure would be in his own home or from the woman who was supposed to love him. Cynical and disillusioned about love and happily ever after, he shouldn’t have been so easily brought to his knees by a brown beauty that he had no right to desire. He didn’t need the added complication of wanting a woman he’d never be free to love. He fought like hell to not act when every male instinct in him called to her. The Ragnarson men were men of honor, and marriage was a lifetime commitment. He was determined to adhere to his family tradition, honor his vows even if his wife hadn’t. However, his resolve was tested time and again. And then his brown beauty was viciously attacked. There wasn’t a chance in hell he could ignore that.Nakia McKenzie had a secret crush on one of the partners of the law firm where she worked. She’d been crushing on him for years and knew that it would go nowhere, especially since both of them were married. Besides, he didn’t know she existed—until she accidently collided with him in an airport. Meeting him up close and personal made the feelings only stronger. This was no simple crush. However, she had to deny it for both their sakes.
The first romance novel I ever read was Cinderella! I devoured Disney’s version of romance until I was eleven, and then I discovered Mills & Boons. In those days kissing was the most explicit intimacy disclosed: the hero and heroine went to bed and came out the next day with smiles! I had no idea what happened, but I was intrigued. My mom had shelves and shelves of them. Over the long summer breaks, I barely left my bedroom! My busy parent had no idea what I was up to. I’ve always been fascinated with love stories. I started writing in college, but I never expected anyone would ever read my whimsical musings. LOL! Now years later, after husband and kids, and a solid career in finance I’ve started publishing those early ideas.
I write my stories so that every woman would be inspired to find the other half of themselves. With every story I tell, my Caribbean sisters are highlighted. Our culture is a melting pot of all ethnicities, where love has no color. We love who we love and make no apology for it. These stories are also infused with my love for sports and action thrillers. I’m an avid sports fan. Tennis, football, track and basketball are my favorites. I devour dramas and action movies. So it’s to be expected that my books have a healthy dose of adventure.
Writing romance novels has been a dream I never knew I had. It was born out of suddenly having a little extra time with the kids out of the house. I absolutely love this creative outlet.
Author’s Creed I like women strong, and my men stronger! I like my sex raunchy but meaningful!
I don’t care how shitty the OW is because her character doesn’t matter to me in the story. What does matter is the “heroine” knowing the “hero” is married and the fact he obviously does not want to divorce his wife but the so called heroine still does her best to tempt him to give in. I’m not a Christian but apparently she is so why does she think it’s ok to lust and chase after a married man? After her own experience with her own husband you would think she would have more respect for the sanctity of marriage regardless of whether his is happy or not. At the end of the day his marriage is not her business and the fact she is still dressing provocatively to entice him makes her cheap and all her inner monologue of being a good Christian null and void. I have a high expectation of my female leads and frankly this woman with no real true moral compass who lets her body control her is not someone any strong woman should aspire to. The so called “hero” was a silly wimp and instead of cutting his wife loose he played with the weak “heroine”. I had no respect for the female lead and for that reason I couldn’t finish the story. What has happened to writing about strong women who respect themselves that they wouldn’t even go near a man who is married? Why would any woman degrade herself chasing a man knowing he was married and intended to stay married? Honestly as a married woman myself of 17 years it’s scary that author’s can write women like this as main leads and expect readers to root for them. This woman regardless of anything is a potential homewrecker and I hated her character. Why should l like and respect her when she clearly doesn’t respect herself?!!!

Nakia McKenzie has a secret crush on her unhappily married boss Justin Ragnarson! Her marriage isn't much better and when her husband crosses the point of no return she finally has the courage to leave. Justin refuses to face that his marriage is over although his wife has proven she can't be trusted over and over again.
When Justin helps Nakia through a difficult situation, she is grateful. Their attraction is sizzling but Justin won't dishonor his wedding vows. When trouble arrives at his law firm via a judge with mob ties the sh*t hits the fan, and everybody he cares about is in danger. Dangerous elements attempt to kidnap his sister-in-law Imani, an inventor of weapons that gives the bearer an edge over the enemy. Nakia proves more than useful when she is mistaken for Imani. These ladies prove when the going gets tough, the tough get going. They are total badasses and I loved them and this story!
1🌟At 16%, I was ambivalent about whether to finish this book. Both parties are married to others. Their marriages are based on betrayal and physical and verbal abuse. Yet they lust after each other. I kept screaming, “get out.” What were they each waiting for? The reasons seem to be pretty mucked up and inexplicable. I tried to understand, but I couldn’t seem to wrap my head around it. Consequently, I’m going to abandon for now or forever.
Oh my, I can't never have enough of your books... Please keep writing! I love a strong, smart,intelligent,...I know who I am type of woman and made no apologies. Nakia,I have no idea how you ended up with Ralph... You and him didn't have a prayer, same goes for Justin and Melissa, gee, I despise that woman, she is the worse. You and Justin are made for each other! Go and conquer the world and make lot of babies! Imani and Colt, always a pleasure to spend time with you. Mac , I can't wait to read your story.😁 Mario,I am hoping that you will find your very "own" Nakia , you are such a wonderful guy. Nakia and the Ragnarson's parents shame on you All !!! Great read!!
What I have no words son sad that it's over but glad how it ended. Thats was messed up what Matt Anna Sarah and Melissa did all that jealousy for no reason but in the end all their efforts went down the drain because everything back fired Justin and nakias book was a great read and can't wait to read more 🙌
But I didn't really like it at all. I guess I felt that it was trying too hard to be a romantic thriller that it feel short for me. I didn't really connect with characters because most of their actions seemed to incomprehensible to me. Colt and Justin were supposed to be alpha males; but seemed to be only cartoon versions. I can't respect a man who would intentionally stay married to a woman like Melissa after all she put him through when he didn't love or respect her. By the time I got to the end of the book; I was glad it was over.
I loved Justin and Nakia's love story! They both went through a lot in their marriages and I was happy they got their happy ending! Justin's family was terrible and some of the secondary characters got just what was coming to them! YAY! Please keep them coming Ms. Mortier!
Though I am not into infidelity, both Ralph and especially Melissa were a piece of work. Both got what they deserve. Both were unfaithful first so I am totally on board with Justin and Nakia's relationship. Lots of intrigue and suspense and heated looks - neither protagonist could really ignore their feelings even though they really tried. Loved their honesty. No games. No pretenses. I loved the fact that the women were strong characters. .. And could defend themselves. Nokia was awesome. Great that the author brought back two of my favourite couples - Colt and Imani who are very important in this story. I was somewhat surprised the Colt and Justin's parents who in the previous book, fully supported Colt and Imani 's relationship but..sorry spoiler alert.. Sorry. Not spoiling it for you..This was a great read and kept me up till the early hours of the morning!! Worth it. Could not put it down!! I am hoping that Mac will get a story... I do hope so as he is one sexy man!! Perhaps also Nakia's friend?? Great story. Again thank you so much Ms. Mortier. You never disappoint!!
This book actually didn't really start to get good until the last 10% of the story. And I actually finished this book, although I didn't find it to be very interesting. Nakia and Justin have an instant attraction although both are married to other people. She survives a brutal beating from her husband and Justin, her boss, swoops in to help her and take care of business. It's a whirlwind from there. Imani and Colt (Justin's brother) are featured prominently in this book as well. I didn't like the back story so much and Justin kind of comes off as a douche. He refuses to leave his trifling wife for Nakia, for whatever reason and when he finally does, he refuses to commit to Nakia lol I didn't like the whole mafia aspect of the story either. It was just too much with the invisible shields and all.
Two thumbs up for another Ragnarson man, deadly, all alpha male, and loving his woman until she passes out! Colt Ragnarson's little brother Justin's life was a mess. He was married to a woman who had betrayed him many times over, then he met the woman who he felt was destined to be his soulmate. Unfortunately for him, Nakia was also married...to a monster!
Second Obsession installment is about younger brother Justin and Nakia..instant attraction leads to secret desires....lust...wanting....but before any sexual actions between the two....they have to take care of the pesky problems of their spouses....Justin's wife is a heartless spoiled entitled Thot and Nakia's husband Ralph is an abusive wife beater...almost nearly killing her....but Justin is there to protect her and love...Colt and Imani are also in the story...can the 4 of the fight of enemies and most of all vengeful family members...
Alpha male and his better half. Well written with just a few minor errors. The plot device employed to create the mystery and its resolution don't quite work as they are too fantastical and certain things were just mentioned that went nowhere. Overall not a bad read
This story was awesome!!!! I could not put the kindle down and I love that the heroine is strong. She is the perfect mate for hero (Justin aka Jay)!!!! Their romance was on point! I am glad that his ex Melissa got her just desserts!!! And, I was surprised that Justin and Colt's family is so dysfunctional! Sarah made a surprise return as well and added to the dysfunction! My biggest surprise was the behavior of the heroine's parents. Not to spoil anything for the readers any further but all I can say is that this book is truly a must-read!!!! D. M. Mortier I am a new fan of your stories! Keep them coming! Whew!
Well, where do I begin? Justin and Nakia are a one of a kind. This book is filled with drama left and right, and at one point I found myself exhausted with all of the twists and turns. Although I don't agree with the choices the two main characters made, the storyline was well put together and kept me glued the entire way.
I love reading about strong females. DM Mortier always seems to have females that can handle their own next to their alpha males. Nakia was not any different. She was more than capable of taking care of herself physically even though she had no shortage of men that wanted to love, protect and care for her. There was a little bit of a disconnection as to how she became so self sufficient in protecting herself and why. I believed that a little more background on her and her friend Marco would have answered all questions. Nakia did confuse me with her daydreaming scene when the story began. Justin also known as Justin.... well I don't know where to start. I was confused as to why he secretly became obsessed with Nakia. He wanted to save a person he had a less than brief encounter with who just so happens to work for him. I get that she was beautiful. However a man of Jay's status and stature probably experienced beautiful women of all races all the time. So her beauty did not explain his obsession. I adored how he cared for her and fought to remain a gentleman because of their situation. As crazy as it may sound, I like the realism of not everyone being on board with the interracial relationships in this story and the connecting story. Overall, I enjoyed reading this story. It was a easy brief read and was entertaining. I would recommend the story to my friends to compare notes. There was a few errors and missing words but nothing that took way from the story.
I love this series so far. Nakia is just as badazz as Imani and Justin is just as badazz as his brother. Justin couldn't explain to himself why he felt so drawn to Nakia with the urge to protect her and protect her he did. Even though they were both married at the time, they resisted their attraction to each other as best they could. Ralph, Nakia's ex, was an abusive azz and Justine did right by getting her away from him and her selfish family so she could heal.
Justin's wife was just as selfish and self serving and Justine was tired of her behavior and lies. He was under the notion that he would never divorce before there had never been one in their family before and he vowed not to be the first one until Nakia came into his life.
In this story, we see the same theme that those who are supposed to love and honor you are the ones that hurt you the deepest, but they all got what was coming to them in the end. But, in an effort to protect Nakia, Justin reacted a little unjustly and as a result he had to apologize and hope Nakia would understand and take him back. Boy was he in for a surprise that turned him on his head.
But their friend Mac though. What is he all about? I have a feeling we are about to find out.
D.M. Mortier has now become my new one-click author. I love how she writes.
2 stars because I can’t be a meanie and give 1. This book wasn’t enjoyable but I read to end to ensure the deserving got their comeuppance. My issues with the book were that the first half’s plot was flimsy at best. A man saying he’ll never get divorced even though his wife is all sorts of horrible…? Made no sense and clearly was just to drag out this book. The second half’s plot I found choppy and needed more context - just started throwing random bits at the reader. I didn’t read the first book in the series which included some characters from this one but I’m not a dullard and can surmise. I surmised enough to get it but I still noticed the absence of some elaboration. Then these dudes who are supposedly smart, well-trained killing machines sure seem to get surprised and taken off guard often. And then the not sharing of pertinent info amongst necessary parties….annoying plot contrivance. Also both the leads were annoying at times - their actions/reactions. They stayed annoying through the HEA wrap-up… many moments in those last few pages that made me roll my eyes. How do you not notice you’re wearing a ring after you’ve gotten up, used the bathroom and dressed? How can you be shocked when it’s pointed out to you? Didn’t have the intended effect on me.

2.75 Stars. (Caribbean W/ WM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Forbidden . The hero, Justin Ragnarson, is brother to the Colonel and a successful lawyer and employer of the heroine, Nakia McKenzie, both Justin and Nakia were in married to other people and were quietly suffering a spouses in dysfunctional marriages... Justin's wife is verbally abusive and unfaithful and Nakia's husband is both verbally and physically abusive. Insta crush/lust. Each remains in marriages as they desire is to be sexually intimate. This storyline has a mafia, crime mystery intertwined with the I want you but we can't be together the drags as it did in Secret Obsession. Justin stays in a doomed marriage and sends his sex partner away ; but unlike his brother, Justin gets Nakia pregnant then sends her away. To spite him, Nakia delivers the baby without ever telling Justin that she is carrying his child. I suffered through this tiring story to the end which left Justin and Nakia and child a happy trio.
This is the second book I have read from this author. Each story has kept me entangled in this amazing web of love at first sight, mystery and suspense. Imani is such a defining character and really becomes the hero of the story. She is absolutely captivating.
Jay/Justin’s fits him. He is all about justice and truth. He hold morals and vows to be true. His love for his family is immensely amazing. I also love his bro love with Colt. Seriously, fab.
What I always look for in these books is growth. Out of all the characters I think that he most growth. Just amazing how he now looks at love and his life. I love how he reinvented his story.
This book is gutter trash. The female main character claims she’s a Christian but openly lusts & teases a married man who for some odd reason doesn’t like his wife, but does not want to divorce her. Then there was a part of this book where all of a sudden they have gadgets that make them invisible. I feel like this just came out of the left field. It made absolutely no sense because here I am thinking it’s just a regular romance book WTF. Also, how is his family rich and they’re all lawyers but this man had to file for bankruptcy, because his wife put him into so much debt. This man is also a divorce lawyer and someone who works undercover ops for the United States government??????????????? There was just so much going on this actually gave me a headache.
Justin and Nakia both were in lousy marriages and needed to get out. This book has drama, jealousy, intrigue, domestic abuse, but also love. I think Justin should have taken a more determined step to end his sorry marriage and not so focused on "not being the first divorced Ragnarson." Nakia also shouldn't have ever agreed to see Ralph or her parents again after what happened to her. No woman should ever have to experience that. But the bad guys/gals got what they deserved (death or jail) and most important, Justin and Nakia got their sweet little Jayla and their Happy Ever After!!
The last thing you'd ever want to believe is the people closest to you betraying you. Who does that? They certainly don't love you. Unfortunately for Nakia, that's exactly what her life turned into a series of betrayals, however, love saved her, found her, protected her, then all hell broke loose. Colt and Imani returned with more action and exciting gadgets. Agent Mac, um, what is he? In the end though, love prevailed.
DANG, it was LIKE THAT? These three ..... fill in the space as you wish, I have NOTHING nice to say about them either. But as we read we no longer have to stomach their type of hatred again. Hooray for that. Didn't like how Justin suckered out when stuff started to really hit the fan. And we can't blame Nakia either. Nice to have Colt and Imani along. Hope things settle down for good now.
I enjoyed Justin, colt & Imani. Nakia was ridiculous. The way she threw herself at Justin was cringey. More importantly, Justin should have had to grovel to get her back, what woman would be ok with him dismissing her like he did. I wish black women weren't written so desperate & pathetic. This is a career woman who had no self worth from the beginning to the end of the book. No evolution
I love these sassy ladies that won't take any carp from no one. The men well they just don't know what they got themselves into but the fun of watching them go through the fire to win their lives is so fun and scary these women don't today nice they play to win. I am still reading more. I would give a ten but we can only give a five. I am telling all read the books they are all good.
I really enjoyed the book. I have to say, Nakia grew on me very late in the book. Around 80%. I found her to be hypocritical and arrogant.
What really did it for me was how she continued to put herself in danger because she “could handle herself”. Even after admitting that her husband beat her ass. She allowed him in her apartment and she met up with him at a restaurant. Girl, what? 😕 Her entire wishy washy attitude about flirting with Justin and his marriage….I just….eh.
This is my first time reading this author so i didnt know what to expect. Overall it was a decent read. There were some holes that werent filled ie her relationship with her parents. Her marriage. Justins stupidity in staying married to melissa blindly. MAC..Im more of a realist with small bit of fantasy so i will admit INVISIBILITY yeah, not saying it isnt real but... Overall it was a good read. Definitely going to read the other 2 books in the series..
Whenever I get to read a story from this writer I know its going to be such a good.experience. We get to see and experience a couple fall in love, become friends and burn 🔥 up the pages. This was not only a good story but it was fun reading and just enjoying a couple that is so likable. This was definitely a good read and worthy of book club status.
I love the hint of paranormal. My only complaint is that the author didn't explain who Sarah was and why she was after the main characters completely. She could have given a little more background on her. I don't know if she was featured in other books but this is my first book but this author.
