In the final years of her life, May Rose leaves the boardinghouse and makes her home in the cottage on Wanda’s farmland, where she’s surrounded by old friends, the Watsons. They’ve always treated her like family, but in 1976 new challenges emerge. Bertha Watson is seriously ill, and May Rose’s daughter Hettie is traumatized by the death of her husband. As Bertha and Hettie struggle to heal, a rivalry develops between their families over Wanda’s long-abandoned farmhouse. Rona’s House is the final book in the Mountain Women Series, bringing to life the struggles, triumphs, friendships and loves of women in a small West Virginia town in the early 1900s.
I’ve been lucky. Years ago, I wanted to live on a farm, and my husband said “Let’s do it.” When personal computers were introduced, I wanted to know about them and have one, and lucky me, the school where I taught offered a course in Basic. When we bought our first computer, I discovered the writer’s best friend--word processing. (Before that, I could not write without crossing out most of a typewritten or handwritten page, and progress seemed impossible.) When I wanted to shift from teaching to writing, the first Macintosh computers came out, and I was lucky enough to offer, along with technical and business writing, the first “desktop publishing” in my county. And when finally I had the leisure to give a lot of time to a novel, my husband didn’t merely tolerate my commitment, he encouraged it.
I must say that this may be the best book of The Mountain Women Series.
Questions answered. Old memories. Love that binds family and friends together.
Losing the elderly, but life springs anew with new babies born. New crops in the fields. New life to houses that are but a shell of days gone by, the good and the bad days, inside the shell.
I hope for my family to love me as May Rose's and Bertha's family loved them. For goodness knows I've made so many mistakes as a mother. I hope my children and grandchildren will recall the good times and forget the bad. Maybe, I can become more like May Rose and Bertha, with their wisdom and grace.
I just finished this series of 13 books and I highly recommend them. I enjoy book series because as you begin to know a character whom you love or hate, you go beyond that initial introduction and the stories of their lives take on a depth you wouldn't get in just one novel. These books tell of lasting friendships, great loves, and family loyalty. I enjoyed learning some history of mill towns and coal mines in the isolated mill towns and coal towns; the closeness of the communities even though life was difficult. If you read these books, you won't be disappointed. Ms Ervin is a great story teller!
I loved this whole series. Sad that it is over. This book was quite a bit different than the others. It didn't flow as smoothly. I suppose it had to be that way in order to get closure for the lives we've all read about for so many books, but for me it took nearly to the end before I was finally comfortable with the new style....then it was over. I do have to say that t was refreshing that she wrapped everything up nicely, not !any authors do that very well at the end of a series, usually you're left hanging thinking there'll be another book. The only one I have left to read is Charlie's Christmas.
Carol Ervin is a talented writer. I loved the whole series so much I just went from one book right on to the next. Sometimes having very short nights because I couldn’t stop reading. She wrote about life in those long ago days so vividly I felt like I was there or could remember that time. I could remember some of them because I am 85 years old. I wish her much success and will be watching for other things she writes. Thank you for the many hours of enjoyable reading you have given me Carol.

Thank you for your wonderful stories and thank your for sharing your God given gift of writing. I had to read all 13 books of this series. Your characters and descriptions were great I hated for their stories to end .
Amazing series with well-rounded characters. Books you will not want to end, author leaves you begging for more! Everything wraps up with a pretty bow.
The entire Mountain Women Series is excellent. You get caught up in the lives of the characters. I highly recommend this series. The books are easy to read, and the stories are easy to follow.
I liked that they told the stories from different characters perspectives, but I didn't like that she had jumped ahead so many years and missed the little stories like the other books. she told about what happened to the people no longer in this book but it just wasn't quite the same.
