DETECTIVE MADDIE IVES FACES HER WORST NIGHTMARE.

Lance Askew is a career serial killer. He lives for it.

THE FIRST VICTIM

Alice Oxley runs her own café. An older man has become a regular over the last month. He likes to people watch. He doesn’t say much.

When he does speak. It comes from nowhere, he waits until she is very close: ”Your son is dead. I killed him.”

Her boyfriend is dead too. He says he left them under the photo on the stairs, the one where they’re all smiling together.

He drinks in her reaction then breaks the spell: “Go!” he rasps.

She runs home to see what he has done.

THE SECOND VICTIM

Michelle Rice pushes open her garden gate. It makes a squealing sound – it always has. It is how Lance Askew knows she’s home. He can barely contain himself. He is waiting for her.

Soon she will see what he has done.

A THIRD VICTIM IS IDENTIFIED.

Another family are about to have their lives ruined.

Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker are the detectives who must stop this killer. And he is far from finished.

My thanks to Joffe Books, the author, Charlie Gallagher and Netgalley. This is a story that I've pondered over the last day or so. Truth is that I liked this book enough to drop any other book I was reading. Still, something was missing. The deaths are gruesome. Normally, I appreciate that! This time? Honestly, for me, they came very close to my thin line. I thought it was a really good to nearly excellent book. That last bit though. Shit, that was a low blow. I didn't like it. It could have been pulled off earlier, and maybe gotten away with. But, no. I was sickened and upset. Really upset. I would love to say this book sucked rocks. It didn't. It's a damned good story. But, crikey.

Terrific Crime Thriller! Maddie Ives is the head DI assigned to a case where a brutal murder has taken place without any incriminating evidence left on the scene. As her team is investigating neighbors or any possible witnesses another body is discovered with almost the identical crime scene and Maddie fears there is a serial killer in their midst. In the meantime her dear friend Vince who is also on the police force is out on mandatory leave due to his partner being shot in and unsolved shooting and is suffering from depression. What no one knows is that Vince will play a key and crucial part in the case Maddie is currently investigating and if they don't figure out what this case is about soon, many more lives may be lost.

This was a very good crime story and is a stand-alone read, although there were some areas that I wish I had read some previous books in the series just so I could have a better grasp of some of the relationships among the characters. With that said, I now want to read those other books which I consider a compliment to the author Charley Gallagher. There was great character interplay and a solid storyline. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

I want to thank the publisher "Joffe Books" and Netgalley for this terrific ARC and any thoughts and opinions are mine alone!

I have given this crime thriller a rating of 4 Solid 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

First you know the WHO .. then you know the WHY.

Lance Askew is a serial killer ... a man who takes his work seriously. He also derives great pleasure in what he does. He's been hired to kill ....

So far there have been 3 victims of his diabolical plans. Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker are the detectives who must stop this killer. And he is far from finished.

It becomes very personal when one of their own is targeted.

Because this author has been a serving UK police officer for 10 years, I expected a great degree of credibility. And I was not disappointed. It's a riveting crime fiction with twists and turns that make this a real page-turner. Although 5th in the series, this one is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend starting at the beginning because these characters are well worth following.

Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Books n All Promotions / Netgalley for the digital copy of HER WILL GET YOU. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Maddie Ives is back on the trail of a cold blooded killer. Maddie and Harry have to race against time to try and catch the killer before any other murders take place.

I really like this police procedural series. The book is tense, thrilling, scary and creepy. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and it didn't let go until the end. I like the authors style 8n writing this series. He also has great attention to detail. The descriptions are quite vivid. The pace is steady. This ook could be read as a standalone but I do recommend that you read this series from the beginning.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Chalie Gallagher for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

He Will Get You is the fifth instalment in the excellent Detective Superintendant Maggie Ives series set in Canterbury and boy oh boy this is the most addictive and thoroughly absorbing to date. Gallagher's crime fiction is always full of gritty realism that is usually missing in books of this nature but his former job as a police officer certainly infuses the story with an air of authenticity and believability.

Maggie and her superior Detective Inspector Harry Blaker are called out to investigate when a man is found dead. The man is Daniel Blake a local drug dealer who died after a police ambush in a multi-storey car park. Lance Askew, known as The Tax Man and a hitman-for-hire provided the money is right, is called in to off the police officer responsible for the death but to veil the only crime with motive he decides to go on a random killing spree joyfully butchering many residents. He begins reaching out tormenting the victims' families about their loves one's death and appears to be getting some sort of sick enjoyment out of it. Little do they know that this frail, elderly looking man is a serial murderer who thoroughly enjoys his job. Can they identify and apprehend him before he kills again?

This is a thoroughly addictive and exceptionally gruesome and grisly read from the moment you open the book. The plot has stomach-churning descriptions of torture and the butchering carried out by Askew. It’s deliciously dark and sinister with superb twists and turns and a plot that keeps you completely engrossed throughout. Catching the killer proves to be a problem as many of the murders were motiveless and totally random in order to cover the one that was paid for; this makes him difficult for Maggie and Harry to identify and apprehend and creates a massive amount of tension and nail-biting suspense. An exceptional thriller with a truly evil antagonist, this is a book that is nigh on impossible to put down. It’s a pacy and exhilarating read and will have you feverishly flipping the pages. Many thanks to Joffe for an ARC.

HE WILL GET YOU is a gripping page turner, the pace never slows down! I like the authors ideas - his writing style for this story - and I haven't come across such an evil, warped-minded villain for a long, long time - he is insane! But fair. He is created perfectly for his role, as are the regular characters.
WHY is Lance Askew picking people off? What is he gaining from it? - well, you won't have long to find out!
We are lucky, we are able to see some scenes from the killers point of view, but only what he wants us to see. He likes to play games. (Lance not the author!)

An incident occurs early on and this sets off a chain of events. Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blake are working flat out to find the suspect but with different descriptions of the possible suspect, he's becoming increasingly difficult to trace. And does he have a little helper? Has he done his 'work' anywhere else?
As fast as Maddie and Harry are leaving a crime scene, Lance is plotting his next move. Will it all go to plan for him though?
There are many twists and turns and the edge-of-your-seat parts are spectacular! The contrast between it being chilling and almost comical as Lance is doing his 'work', is brilliant, very entertaining. The atmosphere changes again nearer to the end, I felt sad, then I felt relieved, and then I felt hopeful. The author draws emotions from you with his writing, it is all expertly constructed and is delivered perfectly. And what a tease the ending is - I never expected that at all!

We also catch up with the main trio's private lives: Maddie needs to think hard what she wants from life, other than work. Vince. Vince is my absolute favourite. Big with a big heart! I just want to give him a great big cuddle, bless him. I'm looking forward to catching up with them again soon.

I loved every moment of it and wish to thank Joffe Books via NetGalley and Books n All Promotions for my arc copy

MY REVIEW

The Plot of Story is intense yet interesting. Storyline is engaging throughout. I loved the Writing Style of Charlie, simple and straightforward. It’s a fast paced novel with presence of what next element in every chapter, which kept me intrigued all the time. Narration is in the first person POV, with different characters speaking in different sections of a chapter. This really helped to get perspective of what was going on in the mind of Killer, Victim and Cops.

Characters were portrayed in a simple yet effective way. I can almost relate to each of them, and their emotions and feelings. Especially, I liked DS Maddie Ives and PC Vince, I would love to hang out with them for their great sense of humour.

If the book was good, then Climax just added a few stars to it. It was so Unpredictable and interesting. No doubt it’s the best thriller, I’ve read in 2020.

OVERALL

Overall, this is one of the best thriller out there about psychopath serial killer with some great writing by author to keep you at the edge all the time.

So Maddie and Harry are back in book 5 but if you haven't read the earlier books it is fine they work perfectly as stand alone.
A serial killer is on the loose. A very dangerous one who not only likes to watch his victims slowly die but also watch the pain and havoc their murder creates.
Maddie and Harry are an interesting team they are complete opposites but they work together brilliantly each with their own unique personality and skills. I must also mention Vince. What a character he is he brings something different and special to the series. So the result is very unique , complex characters that are united in their mission to catch the bad guys.
The killer is evil personified he gets a real high from the murders and the havoc he creates but he is clever, very clever. He leaves no clues and everything is meticulously planned which leaves Maddie and Harry struggling to find a way forward.
I brilliant read but I am not sure I can forgive the author for what he has put his poor characters through. This book sees them all put through the wringer and left out to dry. They will be changed by this case but hopefully they will be back.

4.5 stars for this stomach-churning psychological thriller featuring Detective Maddie Ives.

Heads-up - there are some really gruesome and grisly depictions of crimes in this read, but I was hooked from the moment I started reading. The devil is in the detail of this one, and the descriptions of torture and the butchering carried out by serial killer Askew were particularly brutal. The dark and sinister twists and turns were authentically portrayed and added to the mystery and intrigue.

Catching this killer is really a problem for Ives, and she comes up against the usual hurdles, particularly as the murders seem without motivation and totally random. Maggie and Harry work well together, adding tension to this nail-biting suspense. An exceptional thriller with a truly evil antagonist; this is a book I read in a day!

It is fast-paced, with excellent detail, but not for those with a weak constitution.

Vince Arnold and Tim Betts are doing an area search patrolling the car park, they are both crewed up together. Vince hears a noise and someone is running, after telling Tim to head him off he gives chase. grabbing the man he is told they are going to kill me, a voice behind him your mate down there has been shot, the rain was belting down so at gun point he was told to go down but it was too late he finds Tim lying in a pool of blood. It all happened so fast and Daniel Mason got what was coming to him and the family want revenge. Maddie Ives is back with a lot of troubles and family matters to be sorted. As soon as I started this book I knew it was going to be action packed and I wasn't disappointed. Revenge is definitely sweet. I loved everything about this book, gripping and addictive, it's sends goosebumps as you turn over the pages. I definitely highly recommend this, It will blow you away physically. The author brings all the characters for you to love and hate, the part I hated was the end, oh what? I wasn't ready to finish. So is there more? I'm sure there will be.

I really Maddie Ives, she's tough, straight forward and true to herself. I think because Charlie Gallagher was once a police himself thus his creation of characters, their stories and each case they investigate are not only feel and sound real but also engaging. Go Go Maddie!!!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of He Will Get You, the fifth novel to feature DS Maddie Ives of the Canterbury Police.

Lance Askew is a hitman who conceives of a plan to hide his latest contract among other deaths. Maddie and her boss, DI Harry Blaker, are called out to a vicious murder where Lance tells the victim’s partner he has killed him. With another murder shortly afterwards Harry and Maddie come to realise that Lance is relishing the suffering of the survivors.

I thoroughly enjoyed He Will Get You which is the usual high octane read we have come to expect from Mr Gallagher. The novel is told mostly from Maddie and Lance’s alternating points of view. I’m not always a fan of knowing the killer’s identity and motive in the early stages of the novel as, often, it reduces the amount of guesswork and speculation for the reader. This is definitely not the case in this novel where knowing all about Lance only adds to the tension and excitement as he is such an unpredictable and chilling character. Sociopathic is probably the best description. I never knew what he was going to do next, especially as he never stopped throwing inventive twists into what was, initially, a fairly straightforward proposition.

The plot premise may not be the most original (Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders springs to mind) or the most realistic but these quibbles are quickly forgotten in a fast moving, exciting narrative that the author has perfected. It all fits together logically and I love the procedural details that guide their actions as they add authenticity. I think it is this mixture of the inventive and the mundane that makes the book such a good read.

He Will Get You is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

This is the fifth book in the series featuring DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker based in Canterbury, and it's an excellent addition to the series. At the start of the series DS Maddie Ives had been working undercover in Manchester for years until disobeying orders meant that she had to move right across the country to a Major Crimes posting in Langhorne in the south east, leaving behind a lover she wasn't even supposed to have due to his connections to a criminal gang. Then a nasty shoot out injured her boss DI Harry Blaker and put him out of action for months and her back into CID, and once reunited they have since worked some nasty cases. One of Harry's daughters is now living with him and his adopted dog, and Maddie has moved on from her past, throwing herself into the job that she loves. Back for good in Major Crimes they face possibly their most disturbing case yet. Good solid reliable PC Vince Arnold has just had a very near miss, being held up by an armed man who shot and killed his partner. Now on sick leave he is seriously considering his future. Another man was also killed in the incident and his criminal gang family want revenge, seeking the help of someone known only as the Tax Man - he never fails to collect. And boy, does he enjoy his work! Firstly in a Canterbury cafe the lady owner gets a strange message from a customer to say he has killed her son and partner. She rushes home to find police have already been called to the devastating scene. A second victim is found by his wife the very next day, the crime scene once again set up to shock and horrify the person who discovers it. The MO is identical and the detectives realise that they could well have a serial killer on their hands just starting his reign of terror. Finding a motive for the deaths proves hard and witness statements appear conflicting. Without some positive leads they will struggle to identify a suspect and time could well be running out for the next victim. A man who gets so much pleasure from killing will prove to be the hardest to stop. The characters are very well described, and the detectives get ever more likeable as the series moves on. Harry still growls quite a bit (although he does occasionally show a softer side) and Maddie is her usual tenacious self, but recent events have hit Vince hard and the love/hate relationship between him and Maddie is sadly missing. Like the other books in this series, the plot is fast and exciting as the story culminates in a shocking ending that has far-reaching consequences for all involved. Another excellent and thoroughly engrossing read from a clearly very knowledgeable author which I have no hesitation in recommending. Personally I can't wait to read the next book to see how they come back from this. 5*

He Will Get You by Charlie Gallagher
Detective Madde Ives #5

A policeman dead
A father who wants his son’s death avenged
A fiendish killer who loves his job
Detectives called to a murder scene
Hints about who will be next
Looking through the eyes of the murderer
Imagining “What IF”

This book was intense, dark and gritty as it told of death, destruction of lives and how the police went about trying to find the killer. It kept me interested from beginning to end.

What I liked:
* Maddie: She was focused, smart and capable – would like to learn more about her in the past and future books
* The plotting, pace and writing of the story
* That the story was believable
* Police procedural aspects of the story
* Glimpses of the lives of the police officers and how they were not free of personal worries – also their camaraderie and ability to care for one another on and off of the job
* How Maddie dealt with her parents – I don’t know that entire part of her past but what I heard sounded ugly
* The way I cared about the characters
* Reading a new author that I hope to read again in the future
* All of it except…

What I did not like:
* The loss of innocent lives
* Alexander Mason and his need for revenge
* Lance Askew – evil fiend without any redeeming traits
* Having to wait to see what will happen next.

Coming into this series on book five was fine. I probably missed some information on Maddie, Vince, Harry and some others but it did not impact my enjoyment of this book. And, I did enjoy it and look forward to reading more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Even though this is book 5 it can be read as a standalone although it is probably a good idea to have read a couple of previous ones first to get to know the characters more.

I have been a fan of Charlie’s for a number of years now and the fact that the books are based in Canterbury where I live are a definite bonus.

This book is slightly different to his other ones as we actually know the serial killer and get into his head so know his thought patterns.

As always Maddie Ives and her colleague Harry Baker work very well together in trying to solve the crime and try to stop the killer from killing his next victim.

I really enjoyed this book as it is different with you knowing the killer, which i thiught would ruin it but turns it into a different kind of story and one i loved.

The massive twist towards the end came as a shock and not a nice one but still made the back enjoyable.

The story opens with the murder of a police officer and a mobster's son both by a third party, however the mobster doesn't choose to go after the killer but the surviving officer who he blames. Enter the hired assassin, Lance, who likes to do things his own way. There then follows another two seemingly random murders for the police to solve, but are they?
Another great story featuring detectives Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker, who compliment each other so well at times, and are also dealing with their own personal issues. The book is fast paced and a page turner plus when you think you have figured it out, Charlie throws in a huge curve ball and makes for a very exciting though unexpected climax. I would certainly recommend this book.

Dramatic and Twisted

This instalment is about one twisted individual who gets off on killing, calling ahead and giving himself time to watch the aftermath and chaos of how his crimes affect the nearest and dearest of the victim. The last Murder is personal and it affects a leading figure in the Police. This perpetrator seems to specialise in looking virtually invisible. Little do they know when the police catch up to him they have not even scratched the surface with his crimes.

I love the pairing of Harry, Maddie and Vince and could easily have finished this book in one sitting but time did not allow.

Essential reading for lover's of gritty crime novels!

How wonderful to meet up with Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker once again, I love this duo for too many reasons to mention. As is always the case with Charlie Gallagher's books it doesn't mess about with irrelevant page filler. The first pages hit the ground running, dropping the reader into a nightmare of terror beyond imagination!

I won't be giving away any secrets to spoil other readers enjoyment, something that angers me more than anything , I might add!

Ok two policemen on patrol in a multistory car park, innocently going about their duty looking for a person acting suspiciously. Triggering off a chain of events you can only ever imagine in your wildest dreams!
The result of two policemen going about a seemingly routine check, ends up with one of those policemen and a member of the public dead.
Upping the anticipation of what's to come from the sickening scene, courtesy of a killer who goes by the moniker of 'The Tax Man'

More deaths of sickening proportions, Maddie and Harry desperately trying to get a handle on the killer who is like a ghost. A very sick, very clever and extremely wise to the forensics of a crime scene, a villain who nobody sees, hiding in plain sight maybe?
As things escalate and become to close for comfort, but for whom?

Not a book for the squeamish, but please don't let that prevent you reading it. It's an intriguing plot cleverly put together to take us slightly out of our comfort zone, to route for the police in this ungodly assignment. An intelligent villain or psychotic nutcase? The answer is in the book!
The characters are believable and their varied and diverse personalities are interesting just like real people, in other words!

As I said at the beginning, it's great to meet up with Maddie and Harry again let's add Vince in there too, they go together like a good wine a good cheese and grapes!
Highly recommend you read this series, they just get better and better, if that's at all possible!

When a routine enquiry ends badly for PC Vince Arnold he has no idea of the evil that is about to be unleashed. Signed off from work he can only watch from the sidelines as his colleagues chase their tails trying to find the person responsible for some of the worst killings the force has had to deal with. Experienced detectives Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker know they are looking for an organised, cold blooded killer but even they can't imagine just how bad things are going to get.

Charlie Gallagher is a serving police officer and as always his first hand knowledge and experience shines through in this heartstopping novel. Fom the support offered to struggling colleagues through the frustrations of following organisational procedures and on to a shocking conclusion the dialogue and support show a compassion and understanding of how things are and why.

The main aspects of this book, cold hearted killings and the importance of family, are uncomfortable bedfellows but the stark differences make each section of the story a vital part of the whole. Trust and who to extend it to is also vividly displayed, as is the seemingly simple acceptance of complete strangers without a concern about safety from those at the rough end of society who should know better than most what life can throw at them.

This is a Columbo-esque novel with the killer's identity being obvious from the start. Lance Askew is chillingly compelling. His thought processes and the cruelly calculated way he displays his first victim becomes all the more powerful and scary as it becomes apparent it is all about to happen again. The descriptions are vivid and, as the story hurtled towards its devastating denouement, I was caught totally by surprise at what happened.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well executed and informed murder mystery. The Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker series has been first rate from the start but, this is easily the best yet! It can be read as a standalone without any major spoilers but for any lover of police procedural novels starting here would mean missing some excellent books in this genre.

In her latest case, Maddie Ives faces a serial killer who is relentless and relishes the pain he causes. Lance has been hired by a gangster, Mason, whose son died and he blames the police officer involved. Lance agrees to kill PC Vince Arnold but to hide it amongst other murders so that the police canot trace it back to Mason.
The grotesque nature of the deaths is described in grisly detail as Lance enjoys his work and poses his victims to display them for their poor families and the police.
We are privileged with the knowledge of what Lance has planned for Vince and this creates an excellent sense of dread and anticipation for us as readers. However, plan B is required leading to a shocking conclusion and a devastating twist.
The motive and culprit are clear from the start of the book but the method of the killer and the emotional pain he inflicts makes this a tense book to read. The police procedure is almost painfully slow as every second counts against this sadistic man, but also the police activity feels completly authentic as author Charlie Gallagher is a serving officer.
This is the 5th book in the Maddie Ives series but works perfectly well as a standalone novel (I have reviewed the previous book in the series He Knows Your Secrets). There are personal elements of the story that are specific to Maggie: her relationship with her parents and her former lover Adam.
He Will Get You is a tense and enthralling read. Maddie remains a likeable lead character even though she isn't the lead detective on the case. Seeing the killer's perspective increases the intensity of the chilling plot and the ending is devastatingly good.

Another EXCELLENT Crime Thriller by one of my favorite authors!

HE WILL GET YOU is the fifth police procedural by Charlie Gallagher, featuring Detective Maddie Ives. I've read every one of them, as well as the other books written by the author. He has never written anything I haven't thoroughly enjoyed & he will get you is no exception. When I see a new release by the author, I jump on it, because he really is that good!

Ghallagher is an insider who actually works for the police force. If you like police procedurals, or any crime fiction, you will love all of his books. He is also an excellent writer, who knows how to tell a story. HE WILL GET YOU smoothly alternates view points, while Maddie and her boss follow the clues to catch a serial killer who seems to be enjoying the horrified reactions of the surviving relatives, as much as the killings themselves.

I read them out of order and they stand on their own beautifully. The Serial Killer in HE WILL GET YOU is darn creepy; he made my skin crawl. He is a man who clearly enjoys his work, and interestingly enough adheres to his own moral code. Unlike many serial killers, he has a has a motive for his madness and his killings aren't entirely random.

The book starts off with a bang and never lags or slows down. The writing makes the realistic people and settings come alive. and you get inside look at the thoughts and emotions of quite a few characters. It also gives some insight into the mental toll and and downside of working in law enforcement, especially when the guilt felt when one of your own is murdered.

ANOTHER excellent Police Procedural by Charlie Gallagher!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've not read any of the previous books, but that did not matter in the slightest. The characters were believable, the situations realistic. The pure evil of the antagonist seeps off the pages.

I love Maddie Ives, Vince and Harry. The other characters were all fully fleshed even when they only appeared for a few moments and this only drew me into the story further. Even hints to characters backgrounds weren't distracting enough for me to think I'd missed something from previous installments.

Finally there's a female detective who has had a rubbish past that doesn't get mentioned in every chapter, and it doesn't define who she is! How refreshing is that!

Everything about this book gripped me from the beginning. It's written with a great pace, leaves you intrigued and disturbed by the crimes and on the edge of your seat in trepidation. I cared about the characters, I felt the fear, anxiety, frustration and anger.

I will definitely be reading more of Charlie Gallagher's work. His writing flows smoothly and its obvious his experiences are an influence and that's brilliant and adds to the sense of realism. There's no gimmicks, no stereotypes or superheroes and it was just a real page turner.

Thanks to the Charlie Gallagher, Joffe Books and Netgalley for the advanced digital copy.

Oh my goodness! I had to force myself to put this book down and I only did that because I didn’t want it to end too quickly! Charlie Gallagher is brilliant! I LOVED this book!

I have been eagerly awaiting this book and it arrived just as I had started another book. It took all my self control not to abandon the one I was reading and start He Will Get You, but it felt like a wrapped Christmas present sitting in my Kindle and looking forward to it and knowing it was there was a lovely feeling! I started the book one morning and finished it the following afternoon! Gripping, exciting, all consuming stuff!

I’ve read all the Detective Maddie Ives books so far and loved everyone but this for me was the best. I won’t précis the story, you can get that from the book/the store/other reviewers, all I will say is that the Tax Man (the perpetrator) is scary, very scary! The thought that there actually might be people in this world who can and do plan stuff like this guy does, fills me with abject horror!

If you are reading this review to see if you think you will enjoy this book - stop right now - and go and buy it! If you like a gripping thriller that makes you want to do nothing but sit and immerse yourself in an amazing read - you are going to love this book! Best book I’ve read this year for sure!

Major Crimes is about to be presented with one of their most taxing cases yet.
In this fifth book DS Maddie Ives and DI Harry Blaker find their team a man down. When PC Arnold and his partner were confronted by an armed man only Vince walked away.
Seriously considering his future in the force he is on sick leave.
In the incident another man was killed, his crime family seeking revenge, hire an assassin.
The man is known to the criminal fraternity as The Tax Man... he never fails to collect.
Lance Askew is a man who relishes his work, he is an organised cold blooded killer.
His target may be Vince but he is not going to make it obvious.
He begins a series of random and motiveless murders in order to hide the one he is being paid to carry out.
He cruelly displays his victims and sets about tormenting the victims families further by ensuring it is they that discover the bodies.
The descriptions are brutal, Askew`s character so chilling and sinister.
The plot is filled with twists and turns that kept me engrossed from start to finish.
Will Maddie and Harry identify the killer before his killing spree goes off the scale?
This is a tense nail-biting read that you dont want to miss!
Thanks to Joffe books for the chance to read this as an ARC, such an easy 5* from me.

This is another brilliant book by one of my favourite authors. Just what we all need in the lockdown.

However, I thought the killer this time was one of the worst he’s written about! What a horrible man. You wouldn’t know he was there spying on you, watching every move and relishing in it when he’s killed you.

If I hadn’t got dogs, I’d be looking under my stairs in case anyone was there!

Poor Harry and Maddie are at a loss to find this maniac in a race against time, and the ending. .......

Waiting for the next one now to find out what happens next.

My thanks to Charlie and Joffe publishers for the ARC.

Really impressed!

So impressed with this series. And to make things even better, each story gets more intriguing, more interesting and involved then the one before it. The characters seem so familiar to me now, almost like real friends. Officer Gallagher has a real talent for taking his knowledge and experiences from his day job and turning them into a very worthwhile day of reading enjoyment. Hopefully no one on this team will be retiring anytime soon. Thank you for the escape!

2nd review in one day! What does that tell you?

I don't know that I would ever want to run into Charlie Gallagher alone in a dark alley! This book was even more gripping from the onset than the rest of the series. But to come up with all of this? Either you've seen it, or you're a serial killer yourself! This was a crazy ride of a book, intense, I think I forgot to breath a few times today. But how many times can you kick one man when he's already down? My biggest regret, only one more book in this series to go!!!!
