I would have given 5 stars if it had an epilogue. It just ended. For three books, all you were waiting for was for the power to come back on, and then it just ended when it did. I would have liked to have seen a bit of their lives followed up on with the power back on. What happened to Lucy and her baby? I loved this series but really disappointed how it ended.

This takes a side path from the other books, by focusing on Jack and rather leaves Lucy, our prior main focus, on the sidelines. There were some editing issues: Katie Stone intercepts a message that would ruin the Thompson family-but it would ruin the Stone family and Jack's name was Thompson. Later Jack talks about absolving Lucy of her terrible sin with regard to the Machine but that should be Molly. I have generally found Jack to be a difficult character to like. He went sideways from his experiences prior to the event and time has not really improved him or my opinion. This also introduces the true cause of the EMP event and is based on a group's determination that climate change was irreversible in impact and to proceed to kill billions to "help." If it was irreversible, then nothing you did would help, right? There was no one really to cheer for here, except the kid that was trapped under the furniture. The ending was very abrupt. I'm not sure if there is another book, but also not sure that I will continue if so.

Series was better than some I’ve read. Nice not to have military backgrounds finally and just regular people trying to live through a world crisis. This last book was basically all about Jack. Though he does have some military training he is not the leader of his community. However he does have an ex girlfriend who created the pulse that crippled the world. After her partner in crime finds Jack and gives him the information it is now his mission to find her. The ending is somewhat too easy of a fix but of course that is the fantasy and fiction part. The author is a believer in science and shares his views on the pandemic in a short piece at the end. As I echo his views the commentary was welcome but some may not and that’s fine- it’s his book.

Good except for Covid propaganda

A good story. I liked the characters. A little goofy like when the main character almost froze, but found firewood. Then he pulls a gas line to blow up a house (why not fire up the gas stove). But it is hard to predict all the complexities. I dropped two stars because it was too preachy about Covid and climate change. I hope the author has kept up on the science around the lack of proper testing for the vaccines including evidence that in some cases they make you more susceptible to Covid. Oh well, nice story.

A follow up on everyone who got rich from Covid fear and lockdowns would be good.

Good series

Generally well written apocalyptic/post apocalyptic series about how the world would cope after ALL power had gone. The main 'minus' I found was the use of words that I - with an English degree - didn't understand and had to look up. It was as if the author had used a Thesaurus, and they felt contrived, not really fitting into the overall 'feel' of the story. Other than that, I really enjoyed this series and would recommend it to others.

What is happening?

Covid is essentially over. Life is getting back to normal. Then all power is lost! Not only phones, vehicles and electrical power, but batteries won’t even work! What has happened? Life as known is over! Suddenly you are thrust back in time hundreds of years! But…………, the bad guys have modern weapons and use them to control the people who have survived. What will happen in this new world? Who will survive? Will anyone survive?

Great character development

A great read, loved his characters, wish it was longer. How about a 4th book called Lights On, as we follow Jack & Lucy's story as they get the grid up & running. Please.

My least favorite of the trilogy. The author seems to have run out of content; hence, way too much about Ella, which had nothing whatsoever to do with the plot. Last half was battles.
