About the author

Bluey is a 6 year old Blue Heeler pup who loves to play. Her parents and teacher give her lots of time to practice, which means she’s become very good at inventing games, helping everyone choose their roles and deciding on the rules. Her favourite games are ones that involve lots of other kids and grown-ups (especially her dad) and she mainly likes to pretend she’s a grown up doing grownup things herself.

Bluey is an Australian children's television program by the Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and is co-commissioned by ABC Children's and BBC Studios.

Another fun adventure of the Heeler family.

This time Bluey and Bingo don’t want to do basic “boring” things. Dad takes them on a fun trip to the pool where they want to have fun, but the basic “boring” things like sunscreen were forgotten. Thus limiting the amount of fun they can have. They learned that boring things are important and fun too.

A cute read that my kids have in their rotation pile. I personally love Bluey and the lessons or conversation starters presented.

People like this show. I've never seen it. This book is about how Dad seems fun but really it's not fun to get sunburned. Mom seems like a downer but she has everything you need in her purse.

Did I just put this in so that I could get my Goodreads reading goal? Yes. But it is an amazing book that I have read 5 million times to my kids! We love Bluey ❤️

Rather than showing a picture-perfect family dynamic with perfectly polite kids, as many children's books do, this one shows a more realistic dynamic. The dad is all about fun-fun-fun and forgets most of the pool supplies when taking the kids for a trip to the public pool - ignoring the mom's warnings to remember everything. Some time later, they all get an important lesson that "sometimes boring things are important too" and the mom saves their day by showing up with all the missing supplies.

Being someone who failed to learn how to swim despite many attempts, I don't know what's up with the "crawly thing" in the pool, though. Is this normal? Is it a made-up thing from the show? It looks like a major safety hazard in the art, and it scares one of the young characters. With good reason! Who wants to swim near what appears to be a blob monster getting sucked up by a hose pipe?



(Seriously, what even is that thing...?)

Overall, it's cute and fun and I can definitely see why this is a popular children's series. I might end up giving it a peek on Disney+ when I'm in need of something lighthearted for background watching.

Mom is always reminding Bluey and Bingo of the things they need to do, but they are all boring things. Bluey and Bingo think that if things were important, then they wouldn't be boring. When they head to the pool with Dad and they all three disregard Mom's reminders, they learn that the boring things actually make things fun.

I gave this two stars because when the kids complain and say that Mom is a "fuss spot" and always has them do boring things, Dad agrees with them and says, "She does." Then Dad and the kids proceed to ignore mom's reminders. This is probably true of many dads, but personally I didn't like how Dad verbally affirmed the kids' conclusions about Mom. But I guess the point is that Dad and the pups all have a lesson to learn, so storywise it works.

Look, these books are certainly just piggybacking off the back of the TV series. And usually this kind of mass-market releases seem like a quick cash-grab, but I'm such a sucker for Bluey I don't even care. And anything that takes some of the enthusiasm for screen time and translates it into a love of literacy is a winner.

On a hot summer day, Bluey and her family are bored and head to the pool, but they don’t want to take the time to do the more boring thing of getting things ready for a day at the pool. Thankfully, Mum saves the day. An okay book, but I am really tired of books that show dads as just a grown-up child who doesn’t know to do what is best for their children.

We in my family love the Bluey Show. The dad plays with his children and my partner thinks its amazing that he does as other TV shows don't show really fathers playing with their children.

I brought this book for my daughter and we both enjoyed it. It's a lot shorter than the episode but worth reading about as we don't always have to watch something when you can read it!

I mean what else do you want murder and mayhem?
Anyway Bluey fans will probably love it for other some random yarn about talking dogs swimming in a pool.

I gave this book 3 stars because I didn’t like the kiss. It’s weird for me.
I like bluey being underwater because Bluey is calm and happy underwater.
I liked Bingo when she ran away from the Florine thingy.

I've read a few of these Bluey books now. Sometimes I hadn't seen the episode but I picked this one because I had seen the episode. The book does a good job of summarizing the episode and keeping the message about how "the boring things can be important."
