Sisterwives for the Orc

Rate this book
This is Jumanji meets Elder Scrolls meets medieval romance with a blacksmith Orc. Basically a fantasy union for the ages. It’d be downright perfect… Except for the fact that my new husband comes with a side of three other wives.

I spend five bucks to play an old arcade game that promises adventurers a chance to choose their very own epic romance.

I'm transported to another reality. A realm where three Orc women inform me that I've been added to their family, and I'm about to marry their husband.

That's right. They share a husband. These Orcs think I'm about to become their sisterwife. Obviously, I have to escape them. There’s absolutely no way anyone could be happy living like this forever… right?

Note: This is a 78K story that tells the tale of a woman trapped in a wild game reality like Jumanji (and a bit like Zoltar from Big). Romance readers (and '90s-era gamers and Skyrim fans) will find little easter eggs here and there!

4.5 You’re Sharing Beautifully Stars ⭐

I'm just telling you straight up that I am officially putting myself forward as the 5th wife and I don't want to kick your asses over it. However let's be real. This is fiction, so read this book only if you're looking for some unapologetic entertainment.

Not in a million years did I expect this story to work and to thrill all my senses in one hit. I mean playing a game that turns into an alternate reality which finds modern day Stephanie (a human) married to an ORC? You say what?

Not any ordinary Orc. A motherfucking hot cinnamon roll. BUT you'll be sharing your Orc husband with 3 other sister wives. Brilliant I tell you! I mean this was a swoony, crazy ride. Oh and be prepared to laugh and cry, if you're not already offended by the sharing...

“Roarg gets strongly attached, and he develops feelings for his women quicker perhaps than he should. He said you gave him vows before he plowed you, and one night between your thighs has him expecting to enjoy forever with you now.

So,” she shrugs, like this is a done deal, “forever you will stay.”

It's difficult to go into a lot of detail however this was wonderfully written and an all encompassing romance. At no time were any of the women left out, nor was our hero Roarg portrayed as a sleeze. This is one male with endless stamina who is dedicated to servicing and pleasing ALL his wives. No group shenanigans!!

I'm so conflicted about this story. On one hand, I love Amanda's writing and I trust her storytelling. On the other hand, I feel like she glossed over many issues with polygamy to make this a cute and happy fairytale for everyone. While this IS a romance story, I wouldn't say the focus is on romance, it's more of a friendship story of the four wives. Amanda writes these four women very well. They have depth of heart, they are kind, they are strong, they are good mothers, and they all love the same man. They have also So between that and the TW, this story deals with some dark issues.

Ultimately I think the vagueness surrounding the 'who and when' is why this book somewhat works. If it went into more details (the four bedrooms are very close together and sound travels well), all those insecurities would arise and this would be a very different story. There are general details of him picking a different wife each night, but no real in-depth discussion on how that feels to Stephanie. How does it feel to be newly married and know your husband is doing the same thing to his other wife that he did to you the previous night?
I’m having sex with a man I have to share, and so far I’m dealing with that really well. If I have to think about the sex he has with his other women though, that might cross a line I’m simply not prepared to leap over.
So she simply doesn’t think about it, and that works for her.

Don't fool yourself thinking that maybe Roarg only has sex with the Stephanie. He absolutely has sex with all four of his wives in this story. Roarg is a very sweet guy, loving and tender, with a voracious sexual appetite. The day after Stephanie's wedding night he comes home for lunch and has sex with two of his other wives while she's sitting at the table holding one of his children.
I make love to the most dangerous female I’ve ever met - my third wife. And once the hardest of my sexual thirst is slaked with Joktepitha’s charms, I return her languid body to the kitchen, brush my teeth, kiss Ulda and Stephanie again, and haul Namakuga off for a gentler bout of bed play before lunch.
Well, thank goodness he brushed his teeth. Stephanie's determined to keep everything non-emotional, in her eyes this is just a game and she will be going home as soon as she can.
So I need to play this game without developing feelings for this family. Without developing feelings for Roarg.
I appreciate Milo inserting some period sex into the story (orc’s don’t have periods) so this is fun for Roarg.

So while this was a sweet, lighthearted story of a human trapped in a fairytale, the romance angle was...on shaky ground. As a friendship story between the four women, this absolutely worked.

I’m looking forward to the next books with Stephanie’s friends and learning more about the Dire Wolves and the Dragonkind.

Read this all in one night. Super cute and charming. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the 'sisterwives' thing because lately I've been not into characters sharing mates a la reverse harem. But this was written SO well and the supporting characters were awesome.

If you're curious how it's handled, it's that

Anyhow, if you're on the fence, maybe give it a few chapters and see if it's your bag. :)

This was very sweet but ultimately it’s still like sister wives on tlc and that’s just not a romance for me. Their is some humor and sweetness but it’s ruined by the fact that he’s still sleeping with 3 other women. So many women are trapped in really oppressive polygamous marriages and cultures that I don’t think it’s helpful to glorify it. This is not romance.

Extra star for Amanda trying to write something creative and new, and the humor is always good.
But this just was not a fun read for me. I had to force myself. And had to DNF at 50%.

Other people may not have a problem at all, its cute and sexy, but I definitely had issues with the 4 wives thing. Why am I such a hypocrite? I have no problem with 1 woman having several men. I know its a total fantasy, but it just hit me wrong.

Should have known it was going to be soo good!!

First, let me say that you cannot go wrong with an amanda Milo book. Always great worldbuilding, always great stories, and always fantastic smexy times. I was hesitant because lets face it who wants to read about sharing a man....but wait. The FMC gets zapped to a Jumanji like world and finds out she is going to be a sisterwife. Dont get it twisted, she struggles with this too. I love the way the author tackled a poly relationship especially as its unconventional in romance. You see her struggle and you struggle too but its all well put together. Plus all the amazing references in thr book. Lots of laughs, lots of emotions, and just an all around great read.

This is one of those books where I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to end up rating it, or even what I really want to say about it. A good chunk of this is half-baked.

Amanda Milo will never leave you bored—unless you're not the nerdy or geeky type, then a lot of her various rabbit holes she bolts down might leave you a bit cold...and what are you even doing here?! And she's one of the rare authors in the genre who regularly takes chances by deviating from the set Romance Formula™ to create something new. Beta werewolf romance. Human romance told from the perspective of much larger aliens who keep and breed them like rodents. Hyphochondriac xenomorph-esque aliens with serious germphobia. And now a harem romance, in a genre that loves reverse harems—but really hates having a second woman in the story.

The titles will never steer you wrong, only your expectations.

So what is this story?

+ A mish-mash of '80s child/'90s teen pop culture and gamer references. ()

+ A portal romance/story, about a "game" that takes place in an alternate reality/realm. The actual mechanics of this are not explained in this book, but in forth-coming books, perhaps we'll be let in on how this is even possible.

+ Funny.

+ Full of a wide range of topics, including some heavy ones that have a content warning in the beginning of the story. Be sure to read that. (And authors: ) There will be pay off for the painful parts.

Now.

I really liked this story as a whole, but there are some issues with it from my viewpoint. The most pressing being:

- Lack of relationship building. Oh, there are a lot of words in here describing events that happen, but not so much bonds that are forming as these events happen. We get told after the fact that bonding has actually taken hold. This is in both romantic and platonic dynamics of this family.

Pair this with...

- Timing and pacing. SftO badly suffers from weird pacing and timing. The first 62% of this story is the first 36 hours of Stephanie's tale. We dip in for a quick dalliance about 2 days later. Then we skip ahead several weeks. Then the epilogue almost a year down the road.

A lot of time spent stuck in Day 1 is long descriptions of daily life that do not further along the story. Think Moby Dick and all the words spent on describing knots. Not the sexy kind—could have been a much more interesting tale if they were.

If you're not someone who also finds this sort of thing interesting—it's pretty indulgent of AM to do this and more power to her—you're likely going to be bored out of your gourd for large chunks of the first half of the story. Skim if you want to; you will not miss anything pertinent.

This doesn't work great on a few levels. But especially from the relationship perspective, it's really frustrating to be over 60% in and the FMC hasn't warmed at all to their love interest, and they're constantly offending and stepping on others' toes. These two things did not line up well. In a shorter story it might have worked alright, but in a 300+ page one? It felt like being stuck in never-ending muck and being unable to exit it. It made me more irritated with Stephanie as a character that I might otherwise have been had the storyline progressed along with the page count. It would have also eased the abrupt change in attitude about her situation.

This was a full length story that had the novella treatment, and I didn't care for it.

- Stephanie was hard to like and not someone I would want to be friends with, work with, or share a home with for the rest of our lives. I would have liked 99% less of her shitting on everyone and everything, like the goose she is. Dirty. Loud. Bird.

I thought the polygamous marriage was well-handled and the idea of having built in support and others to share work and responsibility with was appealing. How new wives were brought in interested me (it was so practical and yes, who and why would be the most important factors), and I'm still sorta on the fence about how I feel in regards to male orcs and how they form feelings/attachments—but upon more thought, it's not any more demeaning or unbelievable than instant-smitten, besotted fated mates. It simply applies to more than one mate, which we never question in reverse harem stories.

Funny, that.

And I have a lot of other Thoughts about amatonormativity, the ridiculousness of insisting love can not happen in an arbitrary time frame but somehow proper friend ships can, and more...but I'm tired, and this is already long.

Overall, enjoyed the story, did not love the execution and some of the choices made where to spend the words. I plan to read Lisa and Esther's stories and am looking forward to some older—and hopefully more thoughtful—main characters to follow.

one of my biggest issues with this book was the pacing/timing of everything. it felt like things were moving so slowly bc for the first ~65% of the book, less than two days had passed. but it also felt fast paced bc stephanie and roarg (i don’t remember how to spell his name 🤭) developed strong feelings for each other in just those two days. and then for the rest of the book everything continued to happen way too fast. so the pace of the book just felt so weird and off.
another issue i had is that i felt like there was hardly any romance, even though this book is advertised as a romance book. i never really felt any chemistry between stephanie and roarg.
stephanie was also kind of annoying ngl.
so yeah. these were my biggest issues with this book and the reasons why i just didn’t enjoy it. 😐

also, this was the first ever harem book i’ve read and i can honestly say that it’s going to be my last. i just did not like the harem aspect at all 😭✋
i do like reverse harem books though 😌🤪

absolutely loved this book

I will read anything with orcs in it so I immediately downloaded this but give it a chance even if you don't normally read monster romance or if you think the sisterwives thing will weird you out.

I was a little hesitant about the sisterwife thing but it was so good and I hope it's a trope used in more romance. It is written for female gaze and all characters have a POV and the book mostly focuses on the wives relationships and their development into a family.

The plot is so unique and SWEET. I laughed a lot, sad cried, happy cried and then at one plot curve I gasped in surprise and said "Holy shit." out loud.

Also I love that Esther is starting to be used as name in sexy stuff. The name is derived from a Babylonian goddess of sex and war (Ishtar) and it's about time that it gets recognized as hot (but as an Esther I may be biased :P)

I’m looking forward to reading more books like this! 😃

Not my favorite but not for why you might think.

*TW/spoiler below

I did like this book, but it's not one of my favorites from this author. I will admit that I was a little leery at first because the whole sister wife thing. But I love Amanda Milo so I gave it a shot. And honestly I was ok with it. I think that Milo did a good job of showing the love story of the main H/h.

I think where it fell a bit short was how it glossed over some issues between the other wives.

And I felt a bit squicky about some of the consent of our main h. It felt like coerced consent at best, with intoxicants and threats of violence.

And I think there should 100% be a TW, but I don't know how to do a warning without a spoiler.

Also, I should note that there are some chapters from each of the other wives perspective, including intimate encounters. I didn't much care, but it might bother some people.

Love ALL of these worlds !!!!! Loved this !!!

Oh MI GOSH !!!
Was uber excited to see this in a book form , and I fell on it like the rabid, blood thirsty wench that I am ........
Note: NO FIGHTING !!!
Note: VERY FUNNY, do Not , I repeat NOT read this a work otherwise U WILL get dirty confusing looks when U actually tell people that U are reading a book about 1 man and several WIVES !!! Sister wives !!!
This book was amazing , as is All of her books !!! I love and adore which ever world this author chooses to write about, and this book was no different !!! Only read one Orc story before and there was lots of fighting !!!

In this book 3 women find themselves at a Renaissance festival ( I Always wanted to go to one of these , but as I work on weekends, I was never able to ) These women find a crazy game in the arcade section and decide to play. No turkey legs for these girls !!
In this story Stephanie ends up with the Orc family " game " .
Whoosh , Bang , and she ACTUALLY in the game !!!!! Could U imagine ??!!??!! Playing a game on a console, and then Become a player in the game !!! Mind blowing !!!
What comes next is a hilarious , ,mostly fun story of what would happen if one is thrown into an interactive game , not even certain of how to play !!!
Ha!!!!!
Now , I eat my vegetables, but I NEVER knew all the ways to say GREEN !!! Pea , pistachio, cucumber, celery......... Yes, u guessed it these Orc' s are Green !!! All kinds of green ...... Such descriptions had me on the floor !!!!
Most of this story is how Stephanie ,"plays " , the game , and levels up, and how the coins come into play...... Also how Different everything is !!!
But , of Course this is an Amanda Milo story, and there is some rough times ahead...........
Even the beginning of the book lets U Know that its coming.......and even though I dreaded this situation, the way it was written was respectful of the characters and I felt even the reader . Yes it was sad, but that is life , right ?? And little by little one learns to deal with the pain, and even begin to smile again ......
I thought that this book was extremely funny and I got all the feels .....happy, sad , hopeful, and most of all wanting a dictionary for all these big , huge Words !!!!! But most DEFINITELY want to read more of this world, and can't wait for Lisa, and Esther's stories !!!

I didn't even miss My RAKHII or HOBS ( ....... Very much !!!)
Come ON JONOHKONDA 'S story !!!!!! And even crazy Gracie, and Zadeon and Aroch, and Dohrein, and Crispin and Tamoh, and ....... The village/ preserve/ ......U get the picture 😄😄😄

Jumanji meets polyamory

Amanda Milo's Sister wives for the Orc is hilarious, steamy, and sweet, as always. I've been on an Orc kick lately so when I saw that Amanda Milo had written one I just HAD to read it. Orcs based of Dane culture? Sign me up. Witty video game references? Yes, please. A sarcastic heroine? Fucking YES. A hot Orc husband who's got plenty of good seed for plowing? Fltkwhsbt yes I don't even have to explain this one. If you're nervous about the sister wife aspect, don't be. All intimate scenes are solo.

Loved it ☺️

As the title suggests it is a polyamorous story. I found this story to be a fun ride into another world. A very intriguing plunge down the gamers rabbit hole. Stephanie and some new friends decide to play a game only to be pulled into a whole different world all together. She is fast to discover she is no longer in the reality she knows. She is soon sold as a new bride to a well respected Orc house. She thinks this is a nightmare and convinced this can't be anything more then a messed up game. Only this new family she is brought into grows on her. Her new Orc husband is a better male then she has ever met (he's so sweet and awesome) and the world of Orcs is a whole new way of thinking. There's alot of culture shock and misunderstandings along the way. A "glitch" has left her without any instructions But she is determined to play this game to the end. Only as she "plays" she finds the love, acceptance, and even a family she never knew she was missing or even wanted. When she begins to find her way will the game "glitch" and change everything again? Could she lose everything she feels is real at any time? A story of discovery, love, family, and second chances. Yes this is a polyamorous romance with passion and love. There are moments that pulled on this readers heart strings. With moments that made me laugh and even cringe for Stephanie. I enjoyed the characters and their love for each other.
There are M/f love scenes. Only between the orc husband and one wife at a time in loving and passionate settings. No multiple partner scenes.. Completely sisterly love and needling. No jealousy. I look so forward to hearing her friends stories as well

So the initial set-up isn't quite up to Ms. 'Manda's standards of writing, it's hurried and a little flat--BUT, give this bookie a chanceeeee.

One: I read everything polygamous because I have a weird fascination with all things classic Mormon--I will always read a memoir about plural families because they're fascinating to me. Weirdly enough--harem and reverse harem romances typically make me a little uncomfortable (I don't get it either), but this one just made me laugh. The writing focus was on the main character falling into the storyline and dealing with her new role. I really appreciated that AND the fact they didn't have an orgy scene. That might be some peeps kink--but I tend to skip them, so it benefitted me in a small way.

Two: Orcs man. I love a good ugly orc turned cute because he's a sweetheart story, so this was no exception. Also. Orc and mystical creature stories right now are just hitting with weird Halloween vibes IRL and that's crackin' me up.

Three: Milo didn't let me down. I chuckle through a lot of her books, and this was a goodie. She has (pretty much) also provided you with a entirely secondary novella after the epilogue though, just of general book concept thoughts and thank-yous, so that was humourous as well.

Well done! Check 'm out!

So Entertaining

This book was a treat. The perfect mixture of humor, romance, smut, and wholesomeness. I love Amanda’s writing style and the relatability of her characters. The Orcs were fantastic and felt fully fleshed out, with unique and hilarious personalities. Great story.

Don’t let the concept put you off…it’s great

Like most, I was wary of the concept of this story but I have loved every book by Amanda and so gave it a go. First, the ‘broken game’ idea is genius and so unique to romance. It made it very interesting to see those small influences throughout the book. Second, the authors wonderfully hilarious writing style helps the sisterwives concept go down like a spoonful of sugar. Plus the hero is so amazing to all of them that it’s no wonder a connection forms. I can’t wait to read the other books in this new series and highly recommend this one.

What a beautiful story!

Amanda!!! What a beautiful story this is!! The love in these pages is just priceless. It’s a lesson in getting more than you bargained for. An unexpected blessing.

Highly, highly recommend! This story is just beautiful! And such a surprise. Amanda just completely touched my heart. Most especially with her character Ulda. This story is just so perfectly written. Roarg is the IDEAL husband. What I would give to be held in his lap like he holds Stephanie. <3 I know this is an Orc book and that may not be your thing, but give it a chance. Steamy and beautifully written, I absolutely loved Sisterwives for the Orc!! 5++ stars!

was not sure what to expect

So when I saw that it said sister wives I was unsure. I generally lean more towards male and female or reverse harem books only so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this . These sister wives truly do feel like sisters to the FMC and I found myself actually liking them and enjoying the dynamic. If the sister wife part is throwing you off please do give it a try still. It’s a wonderful heart warming tale . The only downside is that I would love to see more of her friends adventures as well.

Completely worth it (very slight spoilers)

I saw this book being promoted on your Facebook page and I was intrigued. In my head I'm like 'Oh boy, a man with multiple wives here we go' but no

I completely loved it! It was a lovely heart wrenching ride. Where a modern woman is plunged into a highly traditional situation (yes multiple wives was a common thing in the old days, still is in some places) fighting with her base instincts to ignore her new reality while falling in love with her charming family.

I fell in love with the characters, and Ulnas pain was heart wrenching. The male protag is completely loveable.

If your turned off like I was at the multiple wives situation, please, please give this book a chance, it was amazing!

Overall? Really enjoyed this. Great fun, good story, good characters, a little spice (not as much as I expected given how the book starts), some world building - a good mix! This was honestly very domestic, sweet, and kinda wholesome. It's giving some warm vibes. There is a very important trigger warning regarding miscarriage and stillbirth.

I'm bummed this was published in October 2021 with 2 more books planned that haven't been mentioned since.

There were a few notable things I want to mention but the big one is at the end.

Main female character Stephanie's first day, which takes up about 60ish% of the book, felt like it was at least 3 days long, if not longer. The events probably should have been described to take place over the first few days. It also contributes to some frustration in how long it felt like it was taking her to wrap her head around the situation. We, as the reader, are sitting half way through a book about it and have long accepted what's going down but from her perspective, it's only been like 12 hours.

“Christmas is a holiday where—”
“We know what Christmas is,” Ulda snaps.
Stephanie turns to her, causing Ulda and Namakûga’s hands to follow her head. Ulda gives Stephanie a deadly glare, but the girl persists. “You do?”

I could ignore this but... I'm not. I was losing my shit at this lmao Why are they Christian orcs. Why Amanda. What possessed you to write that. The implications. Is there an orc jesus? Did he die for orc sins?? What ARE orc sins because it straight up isn't slavery or murder?

Last but probably the most important - the sisterwives.

I don't consider myself poly and I got annoyed pretty quickly at the female main character Stephanie's attitude about poly relationships so I imagine poly folks may find it even more aggravating. It was so tiresome how she was constantly acting like everybody was completely out of their minds to be in a poly relationship.

Yes, we get it, you're not in Kansas anymore and this is an unusual, unexpected situation you're in but safe, healthy poly relationships very much exist here on Earth.

It's understandable that she's dealing with a lot of feelings between the finding-herself-in-another-reality and the oh-shit-maybe-I'm-not-strictly-into-monogamy-afterall but she didn't need to insist the other characters - for whom a poly relationship is very clearly the norm and in fact a point of pride to be able to provide for a larger family - as though they were weird or had a problem. It was super rude at minimum and probably also belittling and insulting.

A lot of that seems to come from the terminology of "sisterwives" being used relative to her expectations of what that means here on Earth - and fair enough as I'm sure there's readers who see this title and avoid reading the book for a similar reason - but as soon as she got a better understanding of the way the relationships work and the sociocultural standards and significance, she really should have adjusted more quickly than she did.

Finally, if reading about a dude sharing four wives isn't your jam (based on that description alone it wouldn't have been mine either but this is honestly really sweet), the other two human women that got stuck in the game were planned to have multiple male partners. Fingers crossed those other two books get written some day!

I really enjoyed this is. I’d say it’s more slice of life fantasy with strong found family elements rather than a straight-up romance though there is sex and romance. I liked that the orcs are a functional, loving family and that there isn’t a weird misogynistic power imbalance.

Don't turn away, it's worth it!

Being honest, at first I was turned off by the concept because I'm possessive.... but Amanda Milo has yet to disappoint with her worlds so I gave it a try, not expecting to finish it. I was so wrong! I devoured this book because the world & relationship was amazing & not jealousy inducing. I can say if I found myself in a crazy wagon bound to be beheaded & having no idea WHY in a fantasy world I'd have no idea on navigating, I'd be thrilled to have automatic friends to help guide me!
Give it a read, you won't be disappointed!

So I only read this because it’s by Amanda Milo and I enjoy her books a lot. It was well done and I did like it. Generally though, I’m not a fan of sharing my man. Even reverse harems are hard because you lose that “soulmate” aspect.

I don’t know how the author did it, but she nailed it. This story was believable, if Jumanji is at all plausible for you, funny & dare I say wholesome? Especially as pertains the relationships between the sister wives.
