Dappled Hills is a lovely mountain village that regularly attracts retirees. The latest transplant tempted by the town is Flossie Powell.

At first, Flossie seems to fit in very well among the townsfolk. As a retired quilt show judge, the quilt guilds in Dappled Hills are delighted to welcome her and her expertise. But it soon becomes apparent that Flossie has a sharp tongue and isn’t afraid to use it. Perhaps it’s not that surprising when Flossie is soon found murdered.

But Beatrice has also chosen Dappled Hills to retire to. And she quickly works to restore peace to the little town she loves before the killer strikes again.

All quilters will enjoy that the latest book in the Southern Quilting Mystery series is chock-full of activities from the world of quilt making. There are discussions about what it takes to be a judge at quilt shows, modern quilts, and row-by-row challenges. All good meaty stuff!

But, of course, it wouldn't be a cosy mystery without a body - or maybe two? No spoilers here.

It's a great read for followers of the characters in Dappled Hills; their intertwined lives and everyday challenges.

This series is really starting to mire down in same old same old. Now that they're an old married couple, Beatrice and her boring minister husband read or watch TV in the evenings. Boring! Miss Sissy continues to stalk the baby so she can steal time with him away from the grannies and eats everything in sight. Predictable. Boris gets loose and comes to visit Beatrice's house. Somebody gets murdered and Beatrice goes all over town prying information from people then tattling to Meadow's husband, the police chief. Even worse, towards the end of the book, the author seems to lose track of her characters! I don't know why Gail's mother was in charge of her funeral. Maybe laws differ from state to state, but the current husband is the next of kin who gets to set the funeral details, not the mother of the deceased. It doesn't really matter that much to the plot, but it's one of those details that take me out of the story because my mind knows that's not how it works! I like the characters in this series, but it's going stale!

Great story

This is a great series of books. I.just re-read the series and added this book as I had not read it. The author is very creative. One bit of criticism however. These books need to be better proof read. For instance sometimes Noo Noo is referred to as him or he. She is a girl dog. Also in this story you have Flossie rushing to her own home to confront Gail on the day Flossie died. You have Trina cooking a gourmet meal at Flossie's house. This is all in the last few pages of the book. It is distracting. For those reasons I have given the story four stars.

I started reading these books because being a quilter myself they were good fun. Now they’re just getting a bit samey and soppy and not so enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong it is a fun series but starting to get a bit mouldy.
Also towards the end the names get mixed up. At about 92% - The fact that Trina was cooking something fancy was something Ramsay was keeping quiet.
It obviously was meant to say Flossie… not Trina.

Cute story, enjoy the characters. Perhaps a few too many murders in Dappled Hills for me to consider retiring there. LOL
