Trusting the wrong person landed Jazzy Simon knee-deep in hot water. Now, writing the gossip column for a brutal tabloid will have to pay the bills on the steep climb out. Her newest assignment has her on a mission to expose rumors of mistreatment and bribes in the world of rock and roll.
And she has her sights set on the man behind the scenes--music producer, Finn Walker.

Perfect for readers who love a good mix of sweet and sizzle, toe-curling kisses, swoony book boyfriends, and a happily ever after.
I live in Utah with my husband, our four kids, our dog who thinks she is human, and a rather suspicious cat. A fantasy anthology which included my work in 2018 hit the USA Today Bestseller's list. I have written several fantasy and romance novels and adore both genres!
You'll most likely find me when I'm not writing trying to keep up with the kids, daydreaming, spending time in the mountains, and drinking too much caffeine.
Okay, full-stop because Mason's and Finn's relationship is everything. The way Finn grabbed hold of that kid and just loved him?? Bro they both have my heart. And Jaz with Toad??? I just cannot.
Is this a romance story, well duh, yeah lol. But it's the way the cast from previous books are still present and have prevalent roles in each book. It's they way this group of characters rally for each other and with each other that just hits you right in the feels.
And besides what's better than a romance? A family love story! Seriously seeing the growing relationship between the kids and all the adults is heart melting.
They all have my heart and I'm holding out hope for Parker because he has my heart and deserves his HEA.
Huge plus: the two kiddos in this novel. Micah is kid with ADHD and sunshine personified. And Mason is just such a lovable rebel that I would kill for him. Another huge plus: the group dynamics, how they were all simply accepting of each other.
The two heroes? The heroine is scared of introducing her kid to another guy who could possibly leave them behind. And our hero doesn't want his baby to grow attached too quickly only to be then cast on the side just as she was by her mother. I also adore that they trust each other once they out their issues aside.
Issues that are dealt with in this one: Divorce, abandonment issues, ADHD,
New series for me. Looking forward to reading about all of the band members
I loved loved loved Jazzy and Finn 😍 Jazzy was a journalist on a mission to document Finn and the band, but while doing so she fell for both him and his adorable daughter, Micah! Finn was immediately attracted to Jazzy but also immediately jumped to conclusions on how she did her job, which of course added some tension but when he learned about Mason, the kid Jazzy was raising they grew closer, supporting each other when needed for their kids. It was just so wholesome and heartwarming. The found family Jazzy was getting attached to.....you could just feel the feels with her about how much having that connection meant. When the dreaded 3rd act breakup was due to happen.....I was pleasantly surprised that the author didnt take it that route. Finn had learned from their past and didnt immediately jump to the wrong conclusions and it helped address the crisis faster when they worked together. These two are honestly couple goals and you bet im going to immediately buy this from the author's website 😍
Normally, I do not read single dad romances regardless of genre. It's something I don't read. However, I decided to give this book a chance and it was so adorable.
I loved Jazzy and Finn. The are such wonderful characters. Finn is such a good book boyfriend. In addition, to being an AMAZING father, he is so caring. He cares about everyone and sometimes at a cost, but his character is super good.
Jazzy is great. I wasn't expecting to like Jazzy so much. Nonetheless, I was surprised to love her. She is so sweet and a great worker. I loved her dedication to her own craft and also how she cared for Micah, Finn's daughter. She was very respectful of their relationship and refused to barge in.
The romance is great. There is tons of cute kissing scenes. I loved the sweetness of them. There is a lot of romantic tension. I highly recommend this book.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Jazzy and Finn. The author does a great job developing the story and gives them an entertaining banter. She tells the story in the dual POV and paints her scenes perfectly with her detailed and descriptive writing. I enjoyed watching the two come together as they work through their emotions. The story moves fluidly and is a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
3.5 🌟 much better then the other two in this series. The romance again wasn't all that, I just loved the found family and single parent tropes in this. 💟
The third book in this series is in no way inferior to the two previous ones. I enjoyed reading the story of Jazzy and Finn. Both characters have big hearts and would do anything for their friends and family. But most of all, I liked the sincerity and honesty of the two. Neither of the two had to act for the other. This book is full of emotions and I may have shed one or two tears while reading it. I don't want to reveal too much, but in this book, you will find several love stories rolled into one. No fewer than four people fall in love with each other and become a family. So if that is not worth reading, then what? Emily Childs' writing style is one of a kind and I've become a huge fan. So far I've read each of her books at least twice and every time I can't get over the rave about it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It's official! Finnigan and Jazzie are my new favorite couple. Hands down one of the best single dad romances I've ever read.
QUOTES
1. “Micah bats her messy curls out of her face and stares at the plastic travel aquarium. ‘He’s cute, huh?’ He’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. ‘Adorable.’” — Chapter 1: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
2. “I’m always fine. Always. If I’m not, then I’m failing my daughter. I’ve already failed to keep her family together, so failing her again is simply not an option. Even if I break in the end.” — Chapter 1: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
3. “And I know how to butter up my favorite first-floor security guy. ’Whatcha got there, Miss Simon?’ ’I think you know, my good man.’ I wiggle my brows. ‘Take an extra one and tell Sam I say congratulations.’ ‘No guarantees these make it home.’ He takes a massive bite into a honeybun and sighs, eyes rolling in his head. I laugh. This guy has a sweet tooth, and I have no idea how he looks like he was carved and imported straight from Italy.” — Chapter 2: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
4. “‘Encourage? Is that what we’re calling what she does? I’d call it harassing.’ Jazmine’s smile is soft, a bit of pink stains her cheeks. ‘Semantics. More like highly persuasive and excellent at her job, Finnigan.’ Even the nicknames are different with her. From anyone else, it’s fingernails on a chalkboard. But with Jazzy, I’d be happy to let her call me anything she wanted if she stood a little closer. And right there, is the reason this woman is such a massive, beautiful problem.” — Chapter 3: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
5. “Home life is adjusting, and no matter how I look at it, I’m going to need to take some work home with me if I’m going to cut this recalibrated album in time. No one ever said humans needed more than four hours of sleep.” — Chapter 6: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
6. “What is . . . is it a freaking full moon? Where is my cuddle buddy from last night who hugged my neck after story time and told me I’m the best daddy ever?” — Chapter 15: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
7. “And for the next ten minutes I watch my daughter stick by Jazmine’s side like her second head, asking question after question to deduce how well they match up. No matter what the answer, Micah finds a way to make a connection. Favorite food—broccoli, and when Micah realizes Jazzy is serious, she decides that works because she loves trees and broccoli is a tiny tree. When Jazzy says she loves to look at stars, but also the glitter of city lights, Micah describes her rainbow glitter collection and how it sometimes looks like stars. Favorite holiday. Halloween. It works because Micah loves to dress up and eat candy. Jazzy answers each question with a smile and genuine sincerity as they float and bob around the shallow end of the pool together.” — Chapter 25: Our Lost Song by Emily Childs
Oh, my word, what a good story! Our Lost Song by Emily C. Childs is the third novel in the For Love and Rock series, and while each novel can be read as standalone, I really feel this series should be read in order because, at the heart of this series, is the concept of family. Characters from books 1 and 2 appear in book 3 and are pretty important to the development of this theme of family that runs throughout the series. And this is why I am really enjoying the For Love and Rock books. I love the idea that people of different backgrounds and life experiences can come together with mutual morals and values and become a family that is fiercely strong and loyal. To be a part of a group of people who would stand up for you and have your back no matter what is truly a blessing.
In book 3, Childs illustrates the positive side of stepfamilies. Let’s be honest, in today’s day and age, the likelihood that many families are blended is pretty high. Sure, like anything, blended families can and do have their negatives, but all too often, stepfamilies are major blessings. In my personal experience, the blending of families was one of the best things that ever happened in my life. When my mom met and married my stepdad, we had some major adjustments as a family for sure, but the positives of having my stepdad and sister and brother in my life far outweighed the negatives of change. I really related to the illustration of blended families in Our Lost Song, and I applaud Childs for crafting a story that shows this blending in a positive light. I loved how Finn and Jazzy fall for each other — man, the chemistry between them is outstanding — but what I really loved the most is how each of them fell for the other’s child, too. I appreciate how Finn steps up and becomes the father figure that Mason desperately needs, and I love the sweet, caring relationship that grows between Jazzy and Micah.
There is so much more positive to say about Our Lost Song, but I don’t want my review to become a novel. Suffice to say, if you are a fan of wonderfully crafted, well-told, sweet Contemporary Romances then I highly recommend Our Lost Song. You will love this book so much!
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on January 3, 2022, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Jazzy is my new she-ro!! I love her feisty-ness and her inner monologues had me laughing out loud!! Actually so did Finn's!! They're so funny together and their banter is awesome!! I love that it's a silly type enemies to lovers. Jaz just loves poking at Finn's grumpiness! So part enemies to lovers, part grumpy boss, a little found family thrown in with tons of fun!!! All the tropes I love!!
"Nothing. She stares. It's a terrifying power I didn't know she had. I'm shrinking with every blink. Throat dry, palms sweaty, I have no idea what I'm supposed to say here." "I'm in uncharted waters where one wrong move leaves me feeling like I'll set off a storm I can't survive." "Tell me your side of the story." "Misstep. Abort! My brain is shrieking to play this cool, to not throw Mason under the bus, but not get shanked in the process."
Seriously, I couldn't stop laughing!! I enjoyed getting to know Finn and Ellie's whole family! Again, Emily writes families and friends so well. I want to hang out with the entire band!!! I wish they were real people! I'm gonna be so sad when this series ends! Also, Em where's Quinn's story?! I need it!! I'm excited and sad all at once to start the last book. I whole heartedly love this series and HIGHLY recommend reading. Like right now!
Oh Finn and Jazzy’s story brought out such a sincere true found family journey and I could not get enough. I fell in love with their love for their own children. Their big hearts showed what parenting and accepting a blended family looks like. They love each other’s children as their own. I have always loved the bad as a whole as they have a built in family. However, showing their acceptance and how quickly they bring newbies into the fold makes me yearn for that type of love for everyone. It’s not always easy to accept that which we see with Mason, Jazzy’s “son”, who has built in trust issues. Him being able to open up to Finn in any capacity was a miracle. Finn just continued to prove over and over again to not only Mason but Jazzy that here was there for keeps. Little Sunshine can make friends with literally anyone so it only warmed my heart to see Mason and her become like siblings so quickly. Overall, the wholesomeness that is this story spoke to me and just touched me in such a way how could I not give this an easy 5 stars!? Sad there is only one more left in the series…just wish this series never ended.
The series just keeps getting better and better. We are introduced to Finn and Jaz in the last book. And I wasn’t sure if I would care about their story. But the author has a way of not only drawing me in but making me fall in love with these two. Out of all of the characters we’ve been introduced to these two are my favorite. The author has a way of writing beautiful flawed characters who grow as the book continues. To see them fall in love was heartwarming. Seeing how much they each loved Micah and Mason was heart warming. You can see where the angst would be coming from but then it went completely different than I expected. I appreciated how the author handled the drama and it wasn’t the same ole same. I loved seeing the former characters make an appearance and see how they’ve progressed. Can’t wait to learn more about Reese in the next book. And here’s to hoping Parker gets a book!
This is by far my favorite book of the series (Haven't read 4 yet). One of my favorite tropes is single-parent and that's because the romance is more than just the couple. It includes the kids and shows how well they will work together as parents.
*SPOILERS!!!*
Jazzy (Jazmine): legal guardian of her cousin (12 yr difference), journalist, and protective. Finn: single dad (divorced), works with the band, is the producer for the band, loves his daughter, workaholic, and protective.
The story starts out with Jazzy working at Enigma the record company with the band. She was hired to interview them for a documentary. What ends up happening is that Jazzy (and her amazing personality) wins over the daughter, Micah. Later, Finn finds out about Mason (the cousin), and they all sort of become a big family. They start dating, an ex pops up, and everything is resolved.
Do you feel all tingly? I loved this book! I loved the characters of Jazzy and Finn. They went so well together. I love the way Emily Childs writes their story. We get both Finn’s and Jazz’s POVs. Their love was not so smooth sailing but steady and progressive. I loved the banter between them. However, it didn’t take long for that banter to turn into something about love, first friends and then love. It was great to see their extended families be so accepting and gracious toward them. Not only toward them personally but also toward Finn’s daughter, Micah, and Jazzy’s cousin and ward, Mason. We also get a taste of the sinister Julien, Jazz’s ex-boyfriend. I was so happy with the way this story ended. Actually not ended, I should say wrapped up. It left me all tingly inside with the ‘happys’.
This is the third book in this intriguing series and is Finn and Jazzy’s story. Finn is a single dad to his daughter, and is a music producer, who has been left jaded after his marriage crashed and burned. Jazzy is sweet and caring and is a journalist who is working for a gossip column, and she is tasked with uncovering speculation of bribes and mistreatment in the work of rock and roll. When Jazzy is acting as Finn’s intern, the sparks fly between them, and the chemistry is undeniable, as they begin to heal each other. This is a beautifully written story which is sweet, and with secrets, trust, truths, emotions, witty banter, humor, family, tension, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Finn is a bit jaded after his first marriage didn't work, and it doesn't help that his ex keeps disappointing his daughter Micah, who he loves dearly. Although that might change when Jazzy is tempting him to smile again, but the trouble is she is the interview liaison for the documentary film crew. Will her media based job threaten their chances? What about her troubled cousin Mason, who she is a guardian for? I loved Jazzy, Finn, Micah, Mason and the lovable family/friends that make up Perfectly Broken (and beyond), I would loved to be among people like them. I loved the angst, drama and how drawn in I felt to their story.

OMGEEEEEEEE my heart …. It’s official Finn owns my heart… I loved this book so hard… I’m literally addicted to this authors words.. I did go back and look and I’ve read her before I started this series , I read the first 3 books of the baseball series forever ago .. anEways lol this book is my heart… I’m a diehard single parent book nerd it’s my jam … and so I double loved this one … Jazzy is the sweetest and I loved watching their relationship build and become what it was….. I loved my sweet Micah and I adored Mason….. I’m just so incredibly happy I stumbled upon this author again… I mean I know this series was before the baseball series but I read so much and authors get lost in the mix LOL… so I’m glad I found this series of ridiculously lovable rockstars and their family …
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Jazzy, Finn, Mason and Micah. Finn is the producer of the band Perfectly Broken, which he helped bring to fame. Jazzy is a interview liaison. Mason is her cousin/kid and Micah is Finn's daughter. Finn is blown away with Jazzy's ability to keep things moving. They flirt and bicker but he likes forward to it. When her ex causes problems, Finn vows to make it right. He gets Mason to open up and Jazzy helps Micah become more calm. But when trouble brews, the crew sticks together and comes out on top.

I was not expecting this masterpiece. It’s not at all what I expected. But in the best way. Jazzy and Finn were perfect for each other. Early on you see “oh that’s what breaks them up” and while it is, it’s not in the way you think! Genius! I loved the love story but was absolutely blown away and more infatuated with the love story for Mason.
We also got to see the characters from former books - something I always enjoy. But, we got more of Tate being Tate and I don’t know why but Tate stole my heart and I guess he decided to keep it. I think Mason has too.
I could go on and on about how great it is, but I’ll stop so you can just go ahead and read it.
This was the perfect grumpy vs sunshine character book. Jazzy, Mason, Micah and Finn are so freaking adorable. They really grow together and that ending had me bawling my face off. The villian was also well written and not only did he get a smack down from Engima Records but also from his dad was priceless, literally laughed my ass off. I love this series because each main character is fiercely loyal and protective in their own ways with out being obsessively overbearing. I am looking forward to Parker's book and would love for the author to be a tad spicier with his story (maybe pop's daughter who is in Europe 👀)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved this book. But there is something that bugged me so I put it reading it-- I read the summary and I just didn't want to read a "sneak behind the back" story-- The summary is shit. Has little to do with this story. I skipped this and started the Vegas Kings series- it's summary was shit. Like it has to do with the book, but I spent most of the book wondering if the stuff in the summary would happen-- it did eventually. I really really really really enjoy these stories. But I'm so seriously annoyed that the summary was so awful I avoided reading this for like 2+ months. Seriously, ignore the summary.
Our Lost Song is an insightful, heartwarming, sweet romance. I love Jazzy, Finn, Mason, Micah and all the family and friends of both Perfectly Broken and the Vegas Kings baseball team. This is just the best series. I am always up too late finishing a book because I cannot put them down. This well written book has it all - brokenness, loneliness, witty banter, angst, friends, love, an ex to hate, power plays and my favorite scene just might be the amazing showdown between Pops and Julien! That was so much better than what I had anticipated. Don't read just this book - read them all.
I absolutely loved this story with Finn and Jazzy I like that you get both points of view so you know what the other character is thinking and feeling. Finn a single dad and music producer and Jazzy a journalist both have come from bad relationships so they find it hard to trust. I love this author’s story so heartfelt, so emotional so entertaining, I loved the characters and I could understand their reluctance to start a new relationship and the devotion that Finn had for his daughter. I loved this story and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
I loved this book. The characters were real complex and had dealt with the challenges of real life. It was beautiful to watch them come together and form a family.
I also love how Emily doesn’t fall into the old tropes that some authors use to add angst —like miscommunication that can be easily cleared up with a convo. She makes her books interesting and fun with compelling characters dealing with issues of when life hasn’t gone right without all that artificial stuff.
This has to be my fav one so far. I can see some improvements in the pacing and writing compared to her earlier works.
Read if you want: - familial bonds -single parent with children in tow - healthy parent-child relationships - siblings love - the love of a parent - communication - told from 2 POVs - ML and FL
There was a small twist which I did expect and it’s still a HEA.
Now I’m off to read the finale book of this series.
Ps: each book has an additional epilogue found on her website plus a steamy scene if the interest is there
I recently found Emily Childs and have since been devouring all her books. I haven't read them in order, but it hasn't mattered. I started with Parker's story and now I've read all of them. This one was the best. It was a sweet, beautiful love story. I can't wait for Dax's story to come out later this year. If you are looking for a well written, sweet romance, read her books. You won't be disappointed. I've rated all books as 5 stars. Well done, Ms. Childs.
Be still my heart - the way these two handled falling for each others' kids and each other was great. I didn't know how I'd like Emily Childs books but with them being fast reads (ala I read 2 1/2 in one day) and with them not having a ton of drama I think I'll stick with her.
Jazzy is great and Finn is just as wonderful but Mayson and Micah stole the show. The batting cage scene with Finn, Parker, and Mayson really made this book for me, to be honest. The way they just embraced Mayson and understood what he needed was truly amazing.
I think with every characters story in this series, I say...I love Bridger and Alexis, Tate and Ellie and now Finn and Jaz...it just get better and better. The family is a family they brought together through hardships and love. Finn and Jaz, with their children, learn to blend their family together along with the rest of their blended family. I really enjoyed reading their story through laughter and tears. Looking forward to the next book. Written by Cindy :)
Ummm yikes this is my favorite now. I know, I know, I said that about the last book in this series but it is true now.
Rockstar romance is always a fav but when you add the single parent element I am a swoony mess. Yes I think I am making up words but you know what I mean.
Ugh I LOVE ALL the characters in this series. Sooo good. Ok I am off to read the next book. I am ready. It can’t possibly get to me as much as this book. Eek do you hear my doubt?
I didn’t really feel like we got to see how Jaz and Finn went from point a to point b. They’ve known each other for a few months. We are told that they have great conversations. I liked how each stepped in for the other’s child. The end choked me up.
