One day on Earth, children turn into ogres from spending too much time on their phones. Chaos ensues and they wonder what happened and how they can go back to normal.
The author took a serious subject and turned it into an exaggerated, silly rhyming story that will get them laughing… and thinking. I enjoy stories that tackle important subjects in ways that aren’t preachy, so this totally fits the bill.
Wise also illustrated the book with colorful illustrations to complement the story. I liked that the human figures were more on the abstract side, while the ogre characters are the house details were more defined.
If you like silly, rhyming stories, Nomophobia is a great choice.
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
So many of us are addicted to our cell phones nowadays. Nomophobia is a funny book that will encourage children to put down their phones and do something else for a change. In a way, I wish overuse of cell phones did temporarily turn children into ogres. I have fond memories of playing outside all day when I was a kid and not having to come home until dinner time. Things sure have changed and not for the better where children and activity are concerned.
The story is told in rhymes and the illustrations are colorful and different. This is definitely a book that children should read!
What a fun children's picture book to read with your kids. I read this with my 8 and 10 year old sons. We laughed a lot at the storyline. There is so much truth to all of this. I am a parent that does not allow a lot of electronic time. I encourage my children to go out side and play, read a book, etc. My 8 year old said to me "I understand Mom why you don't allow us to be on electronics. You do not want us to be ogres!".
The story is well written and engaging for all audiences. I love the illustrations. They tied together well. This would make a great Christmas gift!
I received a copy of this book through the Silver Daggers Blogging Program. All thoughts are my own.
Everyone seems to spend too much time on their phones, and that’s especially true of children. Nomophobia is a great little book that spreads the message of putting phones down and playing for a change. Children will laugh at the hilarious graphics! The children never go outside to play, but spend all day staring at their phones. When they wake up one day and look like ogres, they are afraid. Then, the phones have a message that will bring them back to themselves….go outside and play. The artwork is really unusual, but brings out the fun for kids.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I absolutely love this book! It really made my kidos think. They actually wanted to get off their screens after we read it. The author has the perfect way to install pertinent information in the text. It really gets the kids thinking, as well as the dad reading it. This book definitely gives a new perspective without being preachy. I would recommend reading this book. I am also looking forward to reading other books by this author. I gave it a five star review. I don't like to promote any product, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In this case ... GET YOURSELF A COPY. YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE IT.
This is a rhyme of kids with too much phone in their lives. Everything seemed fine…until, one day, they woke up and realized that they had turned….GREEN.
Filled with interesting and colorful illustrations, this book narrates the possible ramifications. See how these kids struggle to find the cause and solution to their problem.
A funny, little tale and a great way for kids to see that they can have fun without a phone.
