Lydia has her dream job working for one of the most top rated chef’s, then virtually overnight her boss and mentor passes and her then boyfriend shows his true colours and she stops cooking due to an incident. In time Lydia will learn the depths of her ex’s betrayal.
She is now in Corfu with a colleague on assignment and still very much involved with cooking but from a writing aspect only. Lydia’s job is tasting food at different eateries and possibly promoting the restaurant.
All is going ok with them experiencing different dishes and restaurants but nothing is standing out. They go to yet another restaurant and the food is being prepared by a local cook named Thanos. His food awakens Lydia’s tastebuds and then things start to get interesting.
Over time she starts to get to know Thanos and he senses that she can cook and he throws her in the deep end and she is cooking again. She is shocked how much she is enjoying it.
I love how they both share a passion for cooking and trying different flavours, over time they are starting to fall in love and with help and encouragement can they achieve what they have always wanted? But can it work… he is in Greece while she is from the U.K. can they really have it all or is it just a pipe dream?….
A very easy read for me, some lighthearted banter and comedy moments, will her grovelling ex put a spanner in the works….
Taste of a Greek Summer follows former chef and food writer Lydia as she goes to Greece for a magazine feature. There she meets the Greek hunk Thanos, who is trying to find his way as a chef and guardian to his much younger brother. I thought this book sounded fun as I love descriptions of food and the Greek setting made it all the more exciting!
The descriptions of food did not disappoint, I was hungry for a lot of my time reading it. Thanos was definitely super hot and I liked how his relationship with Lydia progressed through food. I also enjoyed the setting in Greece and got to relive some of my time in the country and the food that I ate, although I sadly had fewer dalliances with Greek men!
Other than that, I found the writing, plot, and characters very, very basic. Caroline was terrible and super annoying to read. The dialogue from the Greek characters felt really stilted and weird. The inclusion of the cooking demonstration and video felt strange and out of nowhere. As the book kept going I found myself looking at the page count to see how much longer I had as I could very much tell where it was going.
Overall, if you are a big fan of romance or want a fun beach read, I recommend this book. 3 stars from me. Thank you to Embla Books and NetGalley for the electronic advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review!
I feel like rushing off to book a holiday to Corfu after reading this book! The story brought the scenery, sights, smells and tastes of Corfu alive and I’d love to sit and eat the gorgeous food cooked by Thanos and Lydia. The story took a little while to get going with lots of Greek names, which got a little confusing, plus Lydia’s friend and colleague was incredibly annoying and I couldn’t really imagine them being friends, however by the end I understood Caroline a lot more. A cracking beach read - even better if that beach is situated on Corfu! Grab a sun bed, slap on the sunscreen, grab a cool glass of something and relax with this romantic, funny and delicious book!

A Taste of Greek Summer is the first book by Mandy Baggot that I've read and I really enjoyed it. This was a fun, romantic book following the budding relationship between Lydia and Thanos after meeting while Lydia is on a work trip to Corfu, Greece. Thanos is a chef, Lydia is/was a chef and now writes about food. The chemistry between them is very believable and compelling, and the setting sounds amazing! I wanted to read this book because I am taking a trip to Greece and some of the Greek Isles next month (though I won't be visiting Corfu unfortunately). Overall, this is a great summer-beach-read type of book. I look forward to reading more books by Mandy Baggot in the future.

My Thoughts : Whenever I hear Mandy Baggot has a new book coming out, I know its going to be a good one. I also know that im going to be ready for an amazing Greek treat and I wasnt wrong. Once again another Mandy Baggot book I couldnt put down. We meet Lydia Broom, once a chef working for Mario who was also her mentor. When he suddenly passed away with Lydia by his side, she seemed lost and turned her back on cooking. Lydia would now rather write about food as a columnist rather than cook it. When her friend and colleague Caroline, who works on the lifestyle column suggests they travel to Corfu for a special edition of the magazine, Lydia isnt so sure but decides to go with it and thinks it will be a nice break away if not anything else. Thanos Nicolaidis, also a Chef was instantly likeable, caring for his younger brother Onassis after the sudden death of their parents made him even more loveable. He just wanted a better life for him and his brother and would do anything possible to get it. When Lydia and Thanos meet there is an instant connection, and their love of food soon makes them the perfect match. It was a delight to watch their journey unfold and especially delightful the way Thanos took Lydia out of her comfort zone. I liked the way Lydia and Caroline bounced off each other and made a great team. Although Caroline could at times be annoying, I think that just added to her bold character. It is very clear that the Author has such a strong connection and love of Greece. With such amazing descriptions of the areas we visted and talk of all the delicious Greek dishes, I found myself googling some of them to see what was in them and weather I could cook some myself. This story was Pure escapism at its best, you will get lost in the wonder of Greece. Cant wait for more Greek stories from Mandy Baggot.
A Taste of Greek Summer follows Lydia, a former chef and current food writer, who takes a work trip to Greece/Corfu and subsequently meets Thanos, a hot Greek chef who inspires her.
The Greek backdrop of this book was lovely and the food descriptions were also great! The two main characters were likeable enough. I did end up getting slightly more invested in the story as it went along.
Ultimately my review of this book is that is was...fine. The writing of dialogue was so different between the British and Greek characters that it almost read as if two authors were writing. The Greek dialogue was actually very distracting to me - it sounded as if the author was writing as if the Greek characters were speaking English even when they were speaking to other Greek people.
Lydia's friend (truly can't be bothered to remember her name right now) was a horrible character and was not redeemed at all in my opinion. I'm usually ready to suspend some disbelief for romance novels but the plot was just a bit ridiculous at times - you're telling me that Lydia travels to Corfu on a work trip but doesn't speak to her boss or anyone else at work at all?? Only to then find out that her friend is actually funding the whole trip and put her on leave (!!!) at work?? and is just immediately forgiven?? Yeah no.
This was a 2.75 stars for me, rounded up to 3. Thank you to Netgalley and Embla Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

OH. MY. GOD. Where has Mandy Baggot been my entire reading life??!!! I cannot believe this is the first time I'm reading her work, because I have no words for how much I ADORED this book!
A Taste of Greek Summer sees Lydia, a food columnist and ex-chef and her best friend/colleague Caroline, a lifestyle columnist, travel to Corfu for the magazine they work for, as they have been tasked to create a special edition print for their readers. On their travels, Lydia meets up-and-coming chef Thanos Nicolaidis, and sparks fly in more than just the kitchen.
This book is the perfect holiday romance, in my opinion. It's clever, witty, dreamy and will suck you right in from the first chapter. It is not only a feast for the eyes, but you will find your tummy rumbling as well as you read about all the delicious delights of greek cuisine. Seriously, I got epic FOMO because I wasn't also in Corfu with Lydia & Caroline experiencing the wonderful way of living there.
I have to commend Mandy, because I fell in love with the entire cast of characters. Lydia & Caroline's friendship had me equal parts giggling at their shenanigans and smiling at the obvious and geniune love they had for each other, despite being completely opposites. Thanos & his family brought out the same sentiments in me, and I couldn't help but howl with laughter over their interactions. And ofcourse, the romance was *chef's kiss*.
A delightful read from start to end; one that left me smiling long after I finished the last chapter.
What a wonderful summery romance read A Taste of Greek Summer was. This author knows how to tickle the tastebuds with sumptuous sounding food and with a nice helping of romance as well.
When Lydia is hoodwinked by her best friend and co-worker Caroline she doesn't expect it to have such an impact on her life as it does. Once a brilliant chef and now a food critic and columnist, Lydia still loves food but has put her knives away. What on earth could have happened for her to turn her back on a wonderful career that made her so happy. Well, you will find out when you read this book!
Lydia is the quieter one out of her and Caroline. While Lydia savours and thinks about things, Caroline rushes in and demolishes. The two are real chalk and cheese characters and it would have been so easy for Lydia to disappear in Caroline's wake, instead, the author balances the two characters and does so with a wonderful storyline and also with some fun.
Going to Greece to get content for articles for the magazine they work for is a great way6 for Lydia to relax and go with the flow. She has got rather stuck in a rut and the trip to Greece may well revive her writing, but it also revives something else.
Food is never far from the pages of this book, from simple mouthwatering local Greek dishes to extravagant and minuscule portions, there is a gastronomic theme throughout, and of course Caroline and her love of chips!
You may think that the wonderful scenery and gorgeous foods would make for a completely happy and fulfilling holiday. Well, that would be too simple and we know that life is never that way. SO the author has written a rather interesting story of Lydia and it gives the explanations needed for her backing away from creating menus to just writing about them. It was a revelation that I didn't expect, but one that felt right. Caroline also has a past that comes out as well.
So. a holiday wouldn't be a holiday without a little romance. And what a wonderful romantic theme this was. Again wrapped around the love of food and done so well. Tempting, tantalising and tasty.
This book was a one-sitting read for me, I started it while sitting out in the garden on a sunny afternoon and finished later the same night. I needed to know the ins and outs, the mystery and also to find out how things would wrap up. This is definitely one for those who love to travel vicariously, love food, and like their romance. It is one I would definitely recommend.
I did not enjoy this book, I found Lydia a narcissistic bully who constantly put her friend down for enjoying food. She was snobby and stuck up constantly belittling her friend, calling her gluttonous because she like chips and kebabs?! It was fat shaming and made me very uncomfortable. You do not have to only eat at 5* restaurants to enjoy food. You should not be measuring your enjoyment of food by portion size - the two are not connected. It was very triggering.
There was also constant references to stray animals - cats with pus filled eyes, cats fighting etc. It was not a soothing read but left me upset and saddened that they were using animal neglect as a plot device.
Absolutely Delightful, my favourite book this year!
I absolutely loved this book. I literally got to the end and wanted to start again to devour it from the start. There were no parts of this book where I had to plough on. I loved it all.
Lydia was once a top chef and is now a food writer. Her best friend and colleague Caroline knows nothing about food unless it is fried she won’t eat it. Caroline organises a trip to Corfu to creat a Luxe Living special Greek edition.
Thanos is fed up filleting tuna on Tuesdays, following a tragic accident he is his fourteen year old brother Onassis guardian. He has to work but his passion is food. Ismena his elderly neighbour who took both brothers under her wing is a force of nature and has plans for the boys that involve anything but settling.
Lydia and Thanos meet after Thanos helps a friend out and she tastes his cooking. Through fate or chance the two meet again in Thanos’s home town. Thanos helps Lydia rediscover herself and her love of cooking and Thanos begins to open up himself and truly seek what he is passionate about.
The characters in this book are all wonderful. Lydia is kind and warm where Caroline is hilarious and loving. Thanos is handsome and gentle. Ismena is by far my favourite character.p, everyone needs an Ismena in their life. Lydia’s parents defy the norm in terms of stereotypes which is lovely and real.
This book will is heartwarming and hilarious. I would give it six stars if I could!

A fabulous slice of Corfu from Mandy Baggot!! A really enjoyable read as always, easy to get immersed into quickly!! Its a laugh, its poignant and at times grrrr with frustration! Lydia is very good at her job as a food critic for an upmarket magazine, with her love and knowledge of food and taste. Her colleague and friend Caroline whisks her off to Corfu on an assignment for all things Greek, where they embark on a fabulous and interesting tour of the island. No spoilers!! Uncover the story for all the ensuing revelations!! Fascinating top tips of places to go, wonderful characters, a joy to read!! Highly recommend this one especially for summer reading!! Thank you for the early read NetGalley!! Loved it!
After reading this book, I want to visit Greece and all the beautiful places described here. Baggot paints a gorgeous picture of Corfu that makes you feel you’re right there with the characters. A perfect beach read with a sweet happily-ever-after!
Thank you NetGalley and the author for an advanced copy.
Just when I needed a sunshine filled escape along comes Mandy to whisk me away to sunny skies at Corfu. Enchanting and a foodies delight, A Taste of Greek Summer was full of comedy, adventure and of course romance. A really interesting mix of characters, some wonderful and some really frustrating; Lydia is a little bit lost, after losing her mentor and realising she had a relationship built of lies; she has become disillusioned with her passion. Thanos is skilled and could go far as a chef but has responsibilities. He doesn’t know what to do or believe he is able to achieve his dreams. A meeting of minds in many ways their chemistry is instant and leaps from the page.
A gorgeous summer read that will entertain and bring the sunshine into grey miserable skies!
This book transported me straight to the island of Corfu in Greece. The descriptions of the food and island were so detailed, and Lydia’s personal journey was so well done. If you’re looking for a vacation romance that will immerse you completely - this one is for you!
I liked it but it did put me in a reading slump, I thought I could read it fast but there was just too much faff in between the good bits. It was a sweet little romance though,
A book for a cold, dark winter’s evening, to bring sunshine and good food into the reader’s life. In Corfu Lydia rediscovers her food mojo and Thanos, with the help of an eighty year widow, finds a way to realise long held dreams. I did feel this was a travel piece rolled into a novel and there was more focus on food than romance but I felt my spirit uplifted by the Greek visualisations. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a perfect escapism light hearted read and would be an ideal summer holiday beach read. I loved the descriptions of Corfu and of them sights and sounds and you could almost taste the Greek food coming off the pages.
This was so much more than just a romantic read and was a journey of discovery for the characters and showed that given time and being in the right place and amongst the right people healing could happen and that life can be fun again.
I've not read anything by this author before but what appealed to me was that it was set in Corfu where I holidayed back in the eighties. I loved all the descriptions of the island as it transported me back to that time. I was also staying in a hotel just outside Benitses. Lydia and Caroline work for a magazine and head to Corfu for new experiences for features in the Greek edition. Caroline is still in love with her ex husband. Lydia is getting away from her ex boyfriend, her family and the restaurant she was working at. Lydia meets Thanos who works as a chef. Together they delight in cooking. Set in a perfect location there really wasn't anything not to like about this book. Ismena was a little overpowering but had her heart in the right place. The conversation between Thanos and his brother Onassis about whipped cream and cheesecake was hilarious. Thanks to Netgalley and Embla Books for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and the setting of Greece. I thought the way she got back into cooking was great and how they helped each other and eventually came together.
Thank you Netgalley and Embla Books for gifting me this ebook in exchange for my review.
I read this super quickly and one of the things I really loved about this book is that it didn't go down the insta-love route. I enjoyed that there was a connection between Lydia and Thanos but rather than insta-love which the author then developed with their relationship through a number of interactions. That both characters explained their attraction to each other and their conflicting thoughts on it through their sections.
I'm a sucker for a romance read and found that the romance in these pages was incredibly sweet-natured. It was also refreshing that Thanos was naturally a very kind and honest male character, don't get me wrong I love a rough and ready leading man as much as the next but Thanos, his ideology, his behaviour, struggles and nature was perfect, exactly what this book needed.
I enjoyed the pace of the book, and the side characters were on point. The one thing I do wish was included is more detail on Lydia's treatment in the past, it's mentioned regularly throughout the book but there isn't any really any depth to it that would have helped me understand Lydia better.
A very sweet and cute romance. With great main and side characters. If you are a romance lover this is definiely worth a read.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
This was a lovely, entertaining story set in the delightful island of Corfu with a delightful hero and heroine in Thanos and Lydia with a cast of characters who add much to the story.
However, I disliked Caroline and almost didn’t progress past the first couple of chapters because of her. She really was an annoying, adolescent character whom I could not imagine anyone wanting to be friends with. However, I continued and tried to ignore Caroline’s antics and focus on the rest of the story.
This was an enjoyable read (apart from Caroline) and I loved the Corfu references as it’s one of my favourite Greek islands.
Find yourself transported to the beautiful Greek island of Corfu with Mandy Baggot’s latest novel, A Taste of Greek Summer. This book has everything you could wish for: romance, comedy and fabulous characters all set against a beautiful Mediterranean backdrop. I found this book impossible to put down. The descriptions of the food and the island have certainly made me want to book another trip to Corfu. I would highly recommend this book and rate it 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books and the author for the chance to review.
If you have never been to Corfu then this story will make you want to visit and if you have been then this will evoke all the wonderful memories that you have of this island. On top of being a fantastic destination, the people are so lovely, warm and friendly. Reading this book is a joy plus you get to know a few things from the menus at the many restaurants on the island. The story follows a woman where drama has put her off the most important thing in her life...cooking. Can a tall tanned gorgeous greek find her love and give her the spark to ignite her passion for creating wonderful dishes from homegrown produce. This is not to be missed and will be the ideal book for the summer holiday.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 (4.5) Steam Level: 🔥🔥 (kissing and closed door sex scenes) Trigger Warning: death of a loved one
Lydia Broom hasn't set foot in a kitchen after witnessing the death of her mentor and then being fired from his restaurant. Now working as a restaurant critic for Luxe Living, she and her colleague, Caroline, venture to Corfu, Greece to write a summer edition of the magazine. It's there that she meets sexy chef Thanos Nicolaidis and feels her passion for cooking come to life again. As Lydia explores Greece and spends time with Thanos, will she be able to heal from her past and find her happily ever after?
I enjoyed this book so much! It's equal parts women's fiction and romance as Lydia and Thanos fall in love, heal, and figure out what they want for the future. I enjoyed getting both of their POVs and seeing them go on this journey together. Thanos was so supportive and sensitive to Lydia as he helped her rediscover her love for cooking, and Lydia was there to encourage Thanos as he tried to make a name for himself as a head chef. Of course, the food played a big role in this story, and I enjoyed reading about all the Greek delicacies that were cooked and eaten by the main characters. I also loved how all the side characters supported Thanos and Lydia in their relationship and careers. If you enjoy great food, travel, and boy bands (IYKYK) then this is the book for you. I can't wait to read more from Mandy Baggot after this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and Embla Books for providing me with an ARC of this book!
This is my first read by Mandy Baggot, at first I wasn't sure I was enjoying the book. I really disliked the character Caroline, I just couldn't connect with her, she was brash and I couldn't work out how her and Lydia would ever be friends. I did however fall in love with the book as I read more, the setting was amazing and I want to visit all the places they did in Corfu. The gentle love story entwining throughout the book was beautiful, two broken people finding a place with each other.
Lydia is a food writer for a magazine, and her and her colleague/friend head off to Corfu to write for the magazine, but not everything is at it seems, and everyone has secrets to keep. Lydia used to be a chef working in a top kitchen and we find out throughout the book what happens to make her turn her back on cooking to become a good writer.
Whilst in Corfu, she crosses path ith a chef called Thanos, who has his own issues going on, bringing up his younger brother after his parents are killed in an accident.
It is a beautiful book, like I said, I didn't like all the characters but it didn't stop the enjoyment of the book
A foodie delight! Mandy Baggot always captures the beauty and calming influence of Corfu in her novels and this is no exception. With the added bonus of 2 accomplished chefs working their magic on the flavours of Greek cooking this was superbly mouthwatering. If you want a few hours in the sunkissed islands in the company of some endearing characters with a bit of sizzling chemistry then this book can do no wrong!
