Francisco J. Varela 1946-2001
If you want to learn about 2nd order cybernetics, this is a book you need in your collection. Varela was the person that introduced me to Autopoiesis and was greatly influenced by G. Spencer Brown's Laws of Form.

In this issue, Kauffman goes in to Laws of Form a little and it is incredible. All of this stuff dealing with the Calculus of self-reference is incredible.
