This is the first time reading anything by this author and I'm not sure if I will read any more of the author's work. I'm not sure if it is the writing style, I can't put my finger on it. I had an idea who the antagonist was for a good portion of the book so it wasn't super thrilling for me.

This story is based on a true story. Jack and his adopted daughter, Emily, go to the Bahamas. They want to find some of Emily's relatives. This is also a chance for some bonding time. And Jack is hoping to help Emily with her eating disorder. They track down only one person, a woman who is in prison for murder. Jack shows her pictures. She says she doesn't know any of them. But they all look like her and their last names are all the same. Jack decides to look into the case. He finds a number of cases where a young woman is killed and her tongue cut out. This has been happening for years. But someone is always arrested. Is there a serial killer who has been getting away with these murders? Are they copy cat killers? Will Jack solve this mystery? What has Emily discovered? You really must read this book! Once again Willow has proven she is the Queen of Scream!

5⭐️s for this bone chilling, page-turner, gripping suspenseful mystery, thriller novel. It is the 6th book from Jack Ryder series, from the queen of suspense, Therese Philipsen ( Pen name Willow Rose).

I read the 5th Series, #The Girl Next Door and no doubt it did full justice, in being a page turner, but this one is the best, I guess. Well, the good news is, you can read this book as a stand alone mystery book as well, because the 6th series has no substantial connection to the 5th one, only that in the 5th, Jack and Emily sets out for their two weeks vacation in the Bahamas to find about the family connections of Emily in Bahamas. Rest the readers can find in the 6th series.

The incidents take place in the Bahamas, which is a spot of tourists attraction and in fact many cruise ship halt there for half a day or one night, lovely stay. Infact, it brought back my nostalgia of Nassau trip.
In the novel, the incidents take place in Nassau and Lyford cay, in turn as the plot unravels in two time frames. One in the present day October 2018 and the other in Lyford Cay mainly starting from 1977.

What I liked in this novel or in the two novels of Willow Rose, is that her plot are inspired from real life incidents. In this novel, she threw light on the illegal immigrants, and how she drew inspiration from reality about the treatment that these immigrants get. They are promised big things, but ultimately they are subjected to modern day slavery. The character of the “White Lady”, in fact has been inspired from Sante Kimes, a lady who is famous for her criminal records with her son. In the story, we get to know, about the horrific punishment that the White lady gave to those who did not obey her!! It is beyond imagination, gruesome and grotesque. The trapped immigrants could not even escape because they were illegal and if found by chance, then police would kill them. So it’s double jeopardy for these innocent people.

The anorexic nature of Emily has been well explored and explained in the “Afterward” part of the novel where the author shares her own life story, where she herself suffered from anorexia, as she also starved in her teens in the fear of gaining weight. However she shed light on how we tend to accept things and love changes our course of life.
Emily is a surprise find in this book and more than Jack Ryder’s daughter, I felt she acted in few places as his subordinate, excelling her dad. Emily found her objective of life. She liked this cat and mouse game and chasing the perpetrator!! The way she responded to the post Mortem reports and the way she drew conclusion out of them leaves me completely at awe. Yes I loved Em’s character to every bit in this book.
The plot is nicely designed and unravels finally in a completely unexpected ending. Though I knew, that a serial killer is on the loose, however profiling was difficult in this case as the author always left a part unsolved and that made the case more unpredictable.
The most important thing in a good suspense thriller novel is, it should give the readers fair scope to think. It should also present a nail gripping twisty plot, so that the readers must focus on the intricate details, from where they can pick the missing clues. I think this book has all these aspects right from the beginning.

Enjoyed reading it and yes I recommend to all those who are still searching for best suspense novels.

Happy Reading

I enjoyed this book. It is slightly different to the rest of the books in the series in the fact that all of Jack's children have taken a step back and for this part of the story it is just him and his adopted daughter Emily. Not that Emily doesn't have her own problems, anorexia being the biggest. I really liked this instalment because through the whole series the author has touched on how bad it was getting but In this book we see Jack tackling it head on. The mystery was good and like normal you jump around in time and with character, so that you get the background story of why the killings occurred. I have to say I think I like this book the best so far mainly because I like Emily and I want to see things work out for her.
Jack has finally made the promise happen, he is taking his adopted daughter home to find out if she has any living relatives in the Bahamas. At first they get the run around with no one knowing the name, until a lady hands Jack a newspaper. In the article a lady with the same last name has just been sent to prison for the murder of an American girl. This trip was a way for Jack to bond with his daughter and In the hopes of finding out about her roots it will help her come back to him and want to live or at the least start eating. Instead it drags them into a murder investigation that has them learning secrets about each other. The murder her aunty has been arrested and confessed to isn't the first one like it on the island. Several American girl have gone missing and turned up dead, with there tongues cut out and a word tattooed on there backs. Jack despite not having a badge starts to investigate and with his daughters help they hope to free her aunt and rescue the latest missing girl. And Jack hopes in the process to help his own.
I liked the narrator and thought he did a good job, even did a few accents

Jack Ryder #6

Living in the gated community of Lyford Cay, in one of the world's wealthiest neighbourhoods, she believes it is safe. Ella Maria never makes it home. She's doing time for murdering Ella Maria Chauncey, but as Jack digs into the case, she starts to wonder if she was wrongfully convicted and if the murderer is still out there, hunting for his next victim.

When Jack decides to look into a woman's murder case, he doesn't realise he's about to open a huge can of worms He finds many cases where young women are killed, and their tongues have been cut out. It has been happening for years, and someone is always arrested. But is there a copycat serial killer out there getting away with murder?

This time Shannon grew on me a little. She stayed home with the rest of the kids while Jack and Emily were in the Bahamas. We have a dual timeline - the past 1977, and the present day 2018. We have illegal immigrants and the treatment they were subjected to. This story is slightly different to the rest of the books in this series. We also have Emily helping Jack to investigate what is going on in the Bahamas.

This was an interesting story that takes place in the Bahamas with two storylines from different time periods, that intersect. I was pulled into both stories reading and waiting to see what happened. At one point I thought I knew part of the mystery but was shocked to learn I had it all wrong. This was a good psychological thriller filled with mystery and suspense. I loved the bond Jack and his daughter developed as they worked to solve the case.

On other, more serious notes, the story covers two serious topics. One of the main characters, Emily, has an eating disorder. As she and her father work to solve the murder mystery, we learn of the struggles Emily faces trying to eat, as well as the struggles her father faces as a parent watching their child suffer. The other topic is what happens to people who illegally escape their country looking for a better life. A good part of this story shows how they become victims living under the shadow of the fear of being caught, and how other’s use that fear to hold the people hostage as slaves with no protection from abuse.

American Women are being murdered in the Bahamas,. Even though this has been happening for 10 years or so, the Bahamian Polce Department doesn't want to admit there is a serial killer. This would be bad for tourism.

Jack Ryder and Emily, his adopted daughter, go to the Bahamas to find Em's family. And help her with her anorexia by finding her roots or her place in the world. Of course Jack gets involved in a case. A young girl is murdered and the only suspect is possibly a relation to Emily.
Emily wants to help with the investigation. Partially because this may be her aunt, and partially to be with Jack. She is very intuitive and resourceful.

I liked this book. About time Emily got some real attention. The girl was so in pain and screaming this through the last 4 books. There is a nice twist at the end. Pay close attention to details.
I am looking forward to learning more about Emily and spending more time with her.
I did not miss Shannon and the pesky little ones throughout this story.

Did not disappoint

Usually I finish these books with in a day. But life being as it is I actually had to put it down and do family stuff. I love the Ryder family and hope to read more about there daily struggles. It was nice to see Jack and Emily get away for awhile on their search for any family members she might have. It's hard reading about Emily's issues with her wait, as I have a daughter right now not happy with how she looks. The story line was done great and to see the father and daughter bonding over helping someone to prove their innocence was so inspiring. Of course until things turn more into s mystery that they both must face and resolve before anyone else is killed. Thanks Willow for another great series and look forward to more books in all your current series you are juggling! Keep it up, but don't forget to take time for yourself. We readers will wait patiently to find out who done it!

Not Perfect But Close

In my opinion Willow Rose is pretty close to being the mistress of concocting a thrilling tale. I'm getting older (as we all are if we're alive...but me a little more than some) but I found this ending a little more convoluted than others. I think it was the names or pronouns. Anyway toward the end I was a bit more confused than normal. I had figured out the perpetrators just a little ways back but the words or phrases "the girl, she, and the lady in white" got confusing as it might have referenced more than one person. Jack Ryder was able to improve one of the family situations in his life which made me happy as I was worried about it. I'm beginning to think of these characters as friends or family as I have read all the books in this series.
Anyway if you have read the others I strongly recommend Her Final Word. You don't want to miss this one.

Mehhh. I read Her Final Word while working and I was incredibly underwhelmed. The premise sounded so enthralling: the promise of a thrilling chase to catch a mysterious, gruesome and so far evasive killer. Each girl found has been beaten and without their tounge. A suspect framed, and wrongfully imprisoned. I was ready to be swept into the chase, and yet I found every bit of this to be confusing and misleading. The timeline jumps around far too quickly to understand what is happening, and that makes the story incredibly difficult to follow. The writing style is something I am not accustomed to, and I just did not enjoy the handful of hours I spent reading this book. Too many needless details, and triggering comments/ information. This book contains SA, ED, and racial comments so little they could be missed (but really stuck onto me and gave me a yucky feeling)

Overall just not my favorite read, but a good thought.

Her Final Word - a review by Rosemary Kenny

The gruesome murder and mutilation of Ella Marie Chauncey becomes apparent, when her tongueless corpse is discovered in the family's swimming pool, which is part of a supposedly secure gated community. Enter our hero Jack Ryder, to discover the guilty party and prevent a recurrence .Seven months have elapsed since a female relative of Ella Marie's was imprisoned for the crime. Ryder visits her in jail, hoping to discover the truth.
What he's told changes his opinion of the crime - Ella Marie had a secret boyfriend whom she knew would not be welcomed into the family hierarchy.
Will this affect the current verdict? Is a serial killer on the loose? If so, can Ryder succeed in discovering the truth and preventing the continuance of a serial killer's evil?
Buy this great book by the wonderful Willow Rose and find out the truth for yourself!

What a wonderful story, but tragic at the same time. Jack Ryder seemed to be at his best in this book. And his daughter Emily really came on strong and changed so much that she is now no longer a helpless girl, but a brave and determined woman.

The story is about how Jack and Emily travel to the Bahamas to help her find a relative that they believe may be living there. However, as they try to track her down, they stumble into a decades old string of murders that have neve been properly solved. Of course Jack cannot let this go, and amazingly Emily turns out to be a great sidekick in his investigation.

There are many twists and turns in the story, with background information provided every few chapters that help to explain the situation today and add a lot more drama to the whole tale. The book is wonderfully written and left me with a great feeling in the end.

Another good drama of Jack Ryder series

This is a book you'll need nerves of steel to read!!!Jack and his adopted daughter Emily are in the Bahamas to try and find her family. Then a young white girl comes up missing. In between finding a possible relative of Emily ,who's accused of murder of another young white girl Jack has his hands full. The story has a dark story line of modern day slavery that is all too true.Trying to find this missing girl, trying to get Emily to eat and get her kin out of jail.Jack has his work cut out for him with his daughter's help. But the main story is of one group of people cruelty to another and the outcome from it.Made me sad but a good story.

Totally Awesome!

The Queen of Scream has done it again!

This book is based on a true story that took place in the Bahamas. It's all about illegal immigrants who thought they were going to a better place, but wound up in worse predicaments.

American tourists in the Bahamas had heard of American girls being murdered, but were under the impression that the killer has been caught.

Jack and his adopted daughter Emily jave gone to the Bahamas for a vacation and were soon wrapped up in a murder investigation. This is all I'm goimg to say about it so I don't give away any spoilers.

If you like mystery suspence and horror wrapped up in one then this is a book you must read! I promise you you won't be disappointed.

I dare you to read this book.

Jack Ryder is my favorite in Willow Rose’s series. She writes him so well, it’s as if he’s speaking to you.

Book 6 of the Jack Ryder series finds him on a trip with his adopted daughter, Emily, to the Bahamas, in hopes to reconnect with her and to help her find her family. Emily is going through a difficult time battling Anorexia and Jack is having a hard time understanding and helping her. I’m the meantime, they’re both having a difficult time finding any of her family on the island. The only one person she may have a connection to is in jail for murder.

Soon Jack finds himself working with the Royal Bahamian Police, trying to find a US citizen that is missing off of a cruise ship, while also working to help his daughter’s possible only relative, as she is adamant of her innocence.

"Another Great Suspenseful Novel From A Great Author"

This amazing author was inspired by a true story (from historical events to those also in her life). In This captivating story, Ella Chauncey is found dead floating in her parent's pool. Seven months later, Jack Ryder is visiting the Bahama Islands with his adopted daughter Emily. They are trying to find Emily's relatives, but the search takes them to a woman in prison doing time for the murder of Ella Chauncey. This is a shocking investigative novel of intrigue. It's a standalone story to engulf you as only the Queen of Scream, Willow Rose, can do. This is a fantastic accomplishment, Willow! Highly recommend.

Jack takes Emily to the Bahamas to try and find her family but what they find is a serial killer.

Jack thinks taking Emily on a trip just the two of them will help her come out of this funk she's in. He takes her to the Bahamas to find her mother's family. When they get there, there is no record of them at all. Emily is further down then before they left Florida. Jack is called on a case of some kidnapping of US citizens and what he finds is a string of these happening and no one believes him, they want things housed up to avoid any lost revenue. This case will bring Jack and Emily closer together.

Another lost afternoon.

Lost in the words of such a prolific writer. The scope of her works continually amaze me. She not only tells an interesting story in an easy to read style she also touches on subjects that affect every day life. This time I believe it was about self esteem and the fight from within. As well as the evils of the undocumented persons being held as slaves when they really only wanted freedom. Always look beyond the story, because there seems to be a hidden gem.

Very good! I definitely can say that I was able to get fully immersed in this mystery. Till the very end I really had no idea who the "killer" was and when that was revealed I admit, I was surprised.

This was a nice Father & daughter story too, and that was very enjoyable too, watching them struggle with their relationship and then accidentally (in a way) everything works out better than expected.

So far, I've enjoyed every Jack Ryder mystery I've read. Haven't read them all yet, but that's OK. Something to look forward to, eh?

I have this book a 5 Star rating because the storyline is so relevant today. The author understands what undocumented immigrants go through and how cruel people take advantage of them. She makes you feel the pain that the immigrants go thru and how people take advantage of them.. She also understands Eating Disorders and what a toll it takes on you and the people around you. I was fascinated to learn how many people worldwide are still living in Slavery ( 20 Million). The ending was awesome and I look forward to the next book of in the Jack Ryder series.

Outrageous!

This book actually spooked me. I don't often have nightmares from books but this one did it. I suppose it had something to do with the room these poor girls were in and how many died before Jack and Emily figured it out. The terrible things that the killer did and the final reason for it had me thinking how awful their lives must have been living in that house. I hope other readers can handle this one, but for me I don't want to see this one again. It will take me awhile before I read the next book.

Like father, like daughter?

Another incredible Jack Ryder novel! Jack finally keeps his promise to take Emily to the Bahamas to try and find her family. As they finally find a possible relative, she is in jail for murder. Jack and Emily are plunged into a world of too much wealth, too much power, and a serial killer that must be stopped. The two of them begin investigating together to find this heinous killer. And it brings back the bond between them that they needed. Can't wait to dive into the next Jack Ryder novel.

Jack and his adopted daughter to to the Bahamas to try and track down some of Emily's relatives. But there is a killer on the loose in Lyford Cay. The police have someone in custody, but when Jack looks into this, is it the right person? It is also the only living relative of Emily they can find! Things aren't as they seem in this community and neither are the people. Be careful who you trust....you might end up dead.

Gotta Love Willow Rose

I started this and literally did not put it down until the last page was done. Willow Rose is such a gifted artist, no matter which of her characters she is featuring. This Jack Ryder was especially good in the way it explored and developed the reason for Emily's anorexia while exposing more and more of the case which she and her dad were working to solve. I wouldn't mind reading more about this father daughter detective duo.

An amazing story ! This story is about finding out if Jack's adopted daughter Emily has any relatives in the Bahamas or anyone there that may have information on the Rojas family. Jack was on leave since his last case was over. Now was the perfect time to go to the Bahamas. But of course the story has a lot of other little tid bits in there to keep you on the edge of your seat. No spoilers here. I enjoyed reading every word and I think you will also. I read this book as an arc program. 💜🎄🐧
