Stepping into his new role as king has Anaros on edge, and Zynnera’s nightmares are doing little to ease his concerns. While she struggles to find acceptance from her people, Zynnera must also battle the images of murder plaguing her mind—not to mention her growing affection for the new king.
In a last effort to combat her visions, Zynnera and Anaros travel to the kingdom of Dunivear. Deep in the forest of Arnfell exists an entire village of witches and warlocks who understand Zynnera’s powers. But whether the people there are friendly is another thing entirely.
Now that she’s found people like her, Zynnera must choose whether to return to her life in Selvenor or give up the man she loves. Will her choice give Anaros the opportunity to propose, or will Zynnera find herself in the clutches of a murderer?
Zynnera doesn't want the magic coursing through her, all she wants is to be normal, not feared, not hated for being a witch, even though she did save Selvenor from evil, magic is reviled, she is reviled. Will she ever be accepted by the people of Selvenor? The threat is behind them, isn't it? So why is she having nightmares, of a darkness lurking, looming, and how can she relinquish her magic until the threat is over? Well, she can't!
This book picks up seamlessly from book I, even the emotions are carried through and boy are the emotions rife! The can I, can't I, will I, won't I, had me sqirming in anticipation. Anaros was so....scared to mouth THE words although everyone knew exactly how he felt! But they are bound, not only by love but by a prophecy, no matter how much they think the other needs"freedom".
Zynnera is really very naive, she trusts too easily and does she come to regret that! The voice in her head, the dreadful nightmares have her setting off to find a hidden reclusive village, Anaros in tow and definitely not what she expected! Once again danger looms in the most unlikely places and the scramble is on to find the perpetrators! I loved the build up, the tension, the dramatic events and the steady pace with spurts of faster paced events, really exciting.
As more is revealed, as realisations are acknowledged, the race is on to find a relic, to stop this evil at any cost. And so being said, I'm off to find out where the adventure takes them to next!
How enjoyable to revisit a colorful world with lively characters.

Brooke Losee shows us the importance of communication, and that sometimes being “selfless” can be more damaging than you can imagine. Sacrificing and letting someone go for their own “good” can obscure the truth. Sometimes you just got to hold on and push through. together, better than apart.
The story sets a quick pace, with plenty of banter with friends. Old friends, new journeys.
