Some break. Others bend. And some just want to eat cake.
Kate. Emma. And Pat.
When a chance encounter brings all three women together there will be tests, there will be friendship, and maybe, just maybe, one of them will come to believe in the magic of miracles.

Debra Flores lives in Texas with a big beast of a cat - but she has no delusions about him. She knows full well if her life were in danger he would not be coming to her rescue like that fabulous cat on that viral video. But she loves him anyway, especially when he's nice enough to sleep on something besides her laptop so she can write.
As I already mentioned in one review of Ms. Flores's books, I am not a big fan of spirituality. I am somewhat cynic agnostic.
However, Debra Flores knows how to write a damn good story, and she owned my heart with this one. This is a story about three women connected by destiny and their relationships with cats.
Also, super sweet how she made subtle connections with her last two books. Also not important really but, I LOVE minimalistic and point-on book cover.
Shocked that not that many people have read this! Very interesting book.
Three main characters though the book does heavily follow Kate, who I must warn, is an undeniable asshole. She does go through major character development and I do find myself cheering for her in the end but I imagine some people are gonna have a little trouble shaking her.
It’s really just the set up of the book.
Kate = asshole Pat = purest soul on earth Emma = kindest soul on earth.
I'm really glad that I gave this book a chance since I was not quite sure what I was getting into when I read the blurb:
"It’s funny how life events can shape a person. Some break. Others bend. And some just want to eat cake. Kate. Emma. And Pat. When a chance encounter brings all three women together, there will be tests, there will be friendship, and maybe, just maybe, one of them will come to believe in the magic of miracles."
Who's curiousity wouldn't be piqued with the first few lines? I was not expecting to be touched immensely by the story. I like that this is not just a typical romance or love story. This is more like a slice of life. Oh, with cats and slice of cake too - just the right amount of adorableness and sweetness to balance some of the heartbreaks some characters went through.
In the end, the character growth and healing were soothing to my soul I feel emotionally stronger. The twist at the end was so unexpected! I forgot this book was by Debra Flores, author of Someday You'll Leave Me, which was another great book and something I need to reread soon.
Friendship, love and cats, what else do you need? Read this now and write a better review than mine. I can't gush enough about this I need someone else to do it.
I love the reference to One Day You’ll Leave me and The Library By The River in this book <3 and Beth meeting Mr.smith, so that means Beth and Sarah do get their happy ending!

Today I'm very sad because I have finished the last of the books by Debra Flores. Each one was different--one the beginning of a fantasy series, one an interesting short story, one a fascinating time travel story, and one a tragic romance. This novel, _The Something Good_, is a lesbian romance with just a touch of magical realism.
The world of this novel intersects with _The Library by River_ (a couple in this book dine at the upscale restaurant that the former library from that book has become). A character in this book admires the artistry of the singer from _One Day You’ll Leave Me_, and mentions that many people swear that they are aware of an alternate timeline in the singer’s life. Finally, the sad heroine from the _Library by the River_ is glimpsed in this novel in conversation with — perhaps the time traveler from _One Day You’ll Leave Me_?
Flores world is beautiful and full of surprises. I have very much enjoyed my time here, and I just hope that she is busy creating something new for me to read. She is an extremely talented author.
i super love the "there you are" moment when emma set her eyes on kate (finally) for the first time after looking for her for 3 years. i honestly don't know how many "when will it be me?" i have on me
i needed this after reading the library by the river especially when it was hinted that beth might get her happy ending after all... my heart is full again
The themes of the book are love, friendship, fate, and cats. Despite the fact that it sounds commonplace, Debra Flores gives each character exceptional traits and abilities to create a captivating tale.
The lives of three women intersect because to cats or fate. Both clues are amusing. However, the novel doesn't get off to such a happy start. The book is so depressing in the first two chapters that I almost put it down. I assumed I had inadvertently picked up the wrong copy. You won't regret it if you make it through the first two depressing chapters. If you had ten hours to spare, you could read the entire narrative in one sitting because of how well it develops. However, the stories from the book's opening should not be overlooked, as they hold the secret to unlocking the “fate” puzzle in the plot that follows.
This is the most recent book written by Flores; it is, however, rather old by GR standards. Still, it's a fantastic book that you won't quickly forget. Highly RECOMMENDED.
