Murder and marriage make an unexpected match when trouble hops into a wedding.
Jilly’s wedding is only days away and the last thing bridesmaid Ivy needs is a bunny problem. Scratch that. The last thing she needs is a murder problem.
Yet when a ravenous rabbit colony takes over Clover Grove’s cemetery and a noted garden enthusiast ends up with a permanent plot of her own, Ivy has no choice but to shift her attention from bouquets to bodies.
With a killer at large, the mayor threatens to call off the orchard wedding. Can Ivy and crew solve the mystery in time for Jilly and Asher to say “I do”?
The next book in the Bought-the-Farm Mystery Series is a perfect page-turner for lovers of animals and funny, spunky amateur sleuths.
Book 12. I Love these book Series. Great Characters.Awesome Animals. In this one there are a vast amount of bunnies taking over areas because people do not want them anymore so they keep reproducing. Rosalie, Lita, Aubrey, and Tilly are fed up with them. And want to terminate them. Rosalie is preparing Flower Bouquets for Jilly's ( Ivy best friend and Cook for The farm and engaged to her brother) wedding nupitulas. Rosalie told Holly there will be no Flower Bouquets if we don't solve this problem. But something sinister happened to Rosalie is it because she wanted to terminate the Bunny population.
3.55 stars for the bunnies, minus points for Asher
Jilly's wedding is coming up soon and she is devastated to see the flowers in the cemetery where she wanted to have her wedding photos have been decimated by a fluffle of rabbits. These aren't just any rabbits, they're formerly domestic rabbits which have been released into the wild. Ivy is concerned for the rabbits, even more so when she learns local florist Rosalie Roarke and her garden club are no fans of these rabbits. Rosalie is also being a pain about Jilly's bridal flowers. Rosy dismissed everyone customer's suggestion to go with her own creative spin. With all that going on, it's no wonder Rosy ends up dead in the cemetery. Ivy feels a gray bunny with a notch in her ear is speaking to her to solve the mystery and save the rabbits. Kellan wants Ivy to stay out! When Jilly's wedding is threatened, Ivy becomes more determined that ever to solve the mystery.
Aww bunnies! I love bunnies as much as Ivy does and don't see them as pests at all. They're welcome to all the veggies they want. Don't eat flowers though bunnies. A lot of them are not good for you. However, the mystery of who killed Rosy and why was far less interesting to me. She was such an awful person that everyone had motive to kill her. Ivy's investigation meanders a bit but I speed read and skimmed my way to the end staying up very late to find out whodunit. I didn't like the reveal. I had an inkling it might be that person but was disappointed to be right. There's never a good excuse for murder but this one was slightly more justified than most of the others. This one is not my favorite in spite of the bunnies because it takes Ivy away from the farm and her livestock.
Keats and Percy are along for the ride, of course, and direct Ivy's investigation. They're smarter than Ivy and she knows it and respects that. Even Kellan now respects Keats and Percy's investigative skills even if he doesn't appreciate their antics when he's off duty. Ivy's big heart sure does get her into some trouble and this time she worries there might be trouble in her relationship with Kellan because of her passion for investigating. She describes herself as a sheepdog and she has a lot of energy to burn. Kellan hints at something big happening in the future and it's not good. It also MAY - probably- have something to do with Ivy's family. I think I can guess. I don't like this dark cloud over my idyllic farm. I also don't like how some of the locals blame Ivy for the recent crime spree. She SOLVES the crimes, not creates them. She has her true friends who trust her and understand her plus Kellan on her side but still, it hurts her when people make her a scapegoat.
Jilly's kind heart is getting her into trouble with Asher. Ivy and Jilly's friendship is rare and special. They have each other's backs 110% no matter what. I don't like Asher very much anymore. He sees an idealized version of Jilly and wants her to be domestic and not investigate any more crimes - ESPECIALLY once they start a family. This is an unreasonable request and pits Jilly against Ivy. They've been though a lot together and Ivy needs Jilly to help her. It's never Jilly the villains come after - always Ivy. The main danger to Jilly is Ivy's driving! Maybe Edna and Gertie's preparedness business sometimes puts her in danger too but Gertie is less intense than Edna and knows how to keep people safe. Those two old ladies are a hoot and older versions of Ivy and Jilly. Ivy and Jilly have better people skills thanks to years in HR though.
Rosalie Roarke was not a nice person. She was supreme dictator of all things garden. She made a lot of power plays and angered a lot of people. She did not like animals of any kind, especially bunnies, and I worried about what would happen to the bunnies before Rosy was killed. I wasn't unhappy she was the one murdered. I'd choose the bunnies over her. I strongly suspect Rosy was using pesticides in her garden and someone found out and killed her. Either that or it was the other way around and she was blackmailing someone who used pesticides. I know she was not opposed to chemicals because she announces her garden club is dedicated to the preservation of horticulture no matter how lethal. I LOATHE people who abuse animals and that sounds exactly what Rosalie is prepared to do to protect her precious garden.
Who killed Rosalie? Was it Tizzy Cousins, cupcake baker and new president of the garden club? I think Tizzy is a faker. She's a cupcake baker but Ivy doesn't like Tizzy's cupcakes. The first one doesn't have any flavor and the second is too sweet and that's saying a lot for Ivy! I think Tizzy is buying her cupcakes from the grocery store. I also think she's a phony gardener too. Something about her is shifty and not quite right. Lita Pebble is also a garden club member. She's somewhat more friendly than Rosy and Tizzy but Rosalie had her drummed out of the garden club. I believe they both competed to be the head and somehow Rosalie's nastiness won. Aubrey Wagner is another friend and garden enthusiast. He is also an animal lover and a very nice man. He does lie to Ivy about one thing though but since he has an alibi for time of death, it can't be him. Rosalie was rumored to be having an affair with Edwin Masters of the regional horticultural society. They shared a passion for plants and spent a lot of time together. The alternate theory was that she had him "in her smock pocket" possibly by money and influence. She was after a seat on the horticultural executive board, something someone literally has to die to give up. Did Edwin kill her because she was too demanding? Did his wife kill Rosalie for having an affair with Edwin?
Ros chased away other florists in town by spreading rumors and lies. Did one of them return to get revenge? Kevelyn Walsh has her own, small shop in a nearby town. Her style lacks the pizzazz of Rosalie's but she's interested in listening to what the customer asks for. She seems nice enough.
There's a new thorn in Ivy's side and everyone else's as well. Justine Schalow is a tabloid reporter running the local paper on her own. She's DETERMINED to get a big scoop and expose the hotbed of crime in Clover Grove. She's certain Ivy will lead her right to it and she'll be able to nab Ivy for causing the crime wave. It will make her career! However, no one likes sneaky snoop and Justine is not welcome in Clover Grove. She's the opposite of Finch Pefferlaw who is as cranky and reclusive as they come. He doesn't treat his dog right. The Mastiff is a trained guard dog and Finch will sic his dog on anyone who trespasses. Even Ivy is afraid of getting out of her truck. The mafia should swoop in to rehabilitate and rehome this poor dog. Zander MacBride is an elderly recluse known to Edna and Gertie. He's quite handsome and brings out a different side of the octogenarian ladies. Who knew Edna could flirt? He raised rabbits for fur or food. Someone freed the rabbits but it wasn't the rescue mafia. That person should get a medal and Zander should be in jail for animal cruelty.
In contrast, the rescue mafia is now appearing regularly. This time they've come to help rescue and rehome the wild rabbit population to redomesticate the supposed garden pests. Cori is uncomfortable with rabbits. Clem can't herd them, she can't flick her orange finger at them and they go underground. Still, if anyone can get the bunnies, it's the mafia.
The recipe including in this book sounds right up my alley. Thank you Mandy for baking chocolate cake and not pie!
Ms. Riggs has another hit on her hands with her latest offering in the 'Bought-The-Farm series, "For Love or Bunny". This book is just as good as all the previous works in this series, and is crammed full of action, zany characters, love and murder, and of course, animals. Ivy and Jilly already have their hands full with planning the upcoming nuptials between Jilly and Ivy's brother Asher. Then all mayhem is let loose when one of the vendors associated with the planned wedding turns up murdered. The murder threatens to derail the wedding if it isn't solved in time, and in addition, there is a proliferation of pet bunnies roaming free in the wilds around Clover Grove. Ivy has her hands full as chaos ensues: the bunnies need rescued, the murder needs solved, and she has to try to rein in her crazy family as they fill Jilly's life with all sorts of shenanigans in their attempts to help the happy couple celebrate the upcoming nuptials. All that and she has a farm to run as well! If you don't enjoy this fun read, it can only be because you didn't read it!
This is always a favorite cozy series of mine. The critters are as important to the story as the people, and all of the characters are wonderful. I never manage to figure out whodunit before the reveal, but I always enjoy the stories!
Finally Jilly and Asher’s wedding arrives, but it’s not without its issues. Firstly Asher and Dahlia want to invite everyone to the wedding, then there is the great rabbit invasion! Finally, there is yet another death, and this time it could completely derail the wedding; and that is something Ivy won’t tolerate. With Sheepdog Sherlock Keats in tow, alongside Percy the cat and death prognosticator, as well as a friendly Rex rabbit, Ivy is determined to help her love Kellan find the murderer and get the wedding back on track!
The stars of this book are definitely the fluffle of bunnies, lead by Opal the great! Ivy’s regular crew are there, with some cameos by the dog town rescue mafia, and a particularly annoying reporter makes life difficult. Some fun things happen too, and there is plenty of foreshadowing (both good and bad) to make things exciting! It’s a thoroughly enjoyable book, with all kinds of cosy fun, and a read O recommend to all cosy mystery and dog lovers!
Another wonderful book, in which the major topic is Jilly and Asher's wedding. However, when the arrogant florist and Horticultural Club president supplying the wedding is found dead, everyone scrambles to find out who the killer could be – with very little success, although leads abound. And what about the rabbits who suddenly make themselves a nuisance and destroy the local gardens? Not wild bunnies, but the kind people raise at home. Where did they come from, and does this have anything to do with the death? The mayor will nix the celebration if the killer isn't found – no pressure, right? Join this wonderful cast of “characters” (in all senses of the word) for tender and witty dialogue (Keats, Percy, Edna, Gertie, Dahlia – they all have a lot to add) and, of course, excitement. - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
Where did all these bunnies come from? Did someone deliberately release them to fend for themselves? Fortunately, the cemetery always has plenty of flowers to eat. That is until the local florist is found dead in the cemetery. Are Asher and Jilly going to be able to get flowers from another florist in time for their wedding? Between Asher and Daliah, the entire town got an invite to the wedding. Because the killer was still at large, the mayor called off the wedding. Which was fine with Jilly. She just wants a small, intimate wedding in the orchard, with family and friends. Can you picture Edna in a bridesmaid dress? Well, your going to have to because she is going to be in the wedding party. What a fun romp (minus the murder of the florist) this book is.
I volunteered a honest review in exchange for an ARC copy of this book.
Another delightful book by Ellen Riggs that makes you forget the real world for a while. I think each book in this series is better than the previous one! The writing flows, the plot twists and turns, and the characters are superb.
In "For Love or Bunny" we spend more time with the irrepressible duo of Edna and Gertie and even see that they can play nicely (almost) with others. Of course, incorrigible Keats and Percy are there to guide us through the rough spots and that's a good thing since we are introduced to a new antagonist we'll love to hate. Kellan reveals his tender side, there are lots bunnies and Jilly's wedding hangs in the balance.
I'm a lucky reader who received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest review.
What a fabulous read with bunnies as the featured animal this time. I just love the Bought-the-Farm series and I wasn’t disappointed with this book. Of course, there are new characters introduced along with the usual favorites. Jilly and Asher’s wedding is getting closer, but when a murder occurs, they is some doubts if it will get to take place. As long as there is a murderer on the loose, the town’s safety trumps a wedding. No spoilers, so grab your copy and read along as Ivy, Keats, Percy, Edna, and Gertie tackle the case.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I eagerly await the next book in this series. And this one was worth waiting for!
Amazon synopsis: Jilly’s wedding is only days away and the last thing bridesmaid Ivy needs is a bunny problem.
Can Ivy and the crew solve the mystery in time for Jilly and Asher to say “I do”?
I enjoyed this more than many of the others in the series, but can't exactly explain why. Farm owner and animal rescuer Ivy is helped by a notched-ear (no one knows why) bunny to solve the mystery of the bunny explosion. And a murder. With the aid of her border collie and cat, her mother, and various friends, of course. The usual cast of characters.
I think I like these because there is absolutely nothing serious about anything in them. Even the problem of the pet bunnies being let out to forage for themselves in the wild is treated with a lighthearted spirit. And of course you know that all animals will come out fine in the end.
Another great addition to this fun series. Absolutely love the rescue farm setting and all the ongoing shenanigans between Ivy's 'unique' family as well as her friends. Especially elderly preppers, Edna and Gertie, curmudgeons with hearts of gold! Madcap mayhem ensues amidst wedding preparations as an explosion of bunnies lead the way on a perplexing murder investigation. This is one series that is better read in order due to the developing personal stories of the main characters and the complexities of Ivy's family. Plus there is some name dropping of past villains which could prove spoilery if you plant on backtracking and reading earlier books.
Ms. Riggs has authored another page-turning comedy with a little murder thrown in. Ivy, Keats, and Percy are at the top of their game. Ms. Riggs’ garden scene was a laugh-out-loud riot. She writes so well that I pictured every tiptoe and sound. You’ll understand what I mean once you read the book. Edna and Gertie provide comedic relieve at every turn and watch out if things get too emotional with them. I always think Ms. Riggs has written her best book, and then the next one comes out. I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Once again a very enjoyable book. Jilly & Ivy are trying to get the wedding organised, but, rabbits keep getting in the way. These are several sorts of rabbits bread for fur or pets, or even meat! Then a rabid anti rabbit gardener is found dead in the cemetery where the rabbits have eaten nearly e earthing available & not poisonous. Kellan asks for a little help from Ivy, but more than a little from Keats & Percy. The murder has to get sorted before the wedding, else it might be too dangerous for all concerned. Then of course those rabbits have to be rescued!
For Love or Bunny is another fun time at Runaway Farm! This well written mystery has wedding bells, bunnies and murder, plus all of Ivy's friends and family. I can never solve these twisty mysteries - which is a plus. The wedding is just days away. If the murderer is not caught, the mayor will cancel the orchard wedding for safety reasons. Can Ivy, Keats, Percy, Edna and Gertie corral the bunnies and solve the murder in time? Will Jilly and Archer finally get their wedding? You will have to read the book to find out!
Can’t help but wonder what’s coming in the future. Jilly got the wedding she wanted despite Ash and Dahlia inviting everyone in town to the wedding. The storyline of invasive bunnies was amusing. Hope Opal the bunny stays with Ivy. The killer definitely was a surprise and how crazy was that person? Glad Kellan and Ivy are working their way to a marriage. Everyone needs a Keats and/or Percy in their life. Kellan’s comment about family towards the end of the book is concerning. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
It's been a trying time but Jilly and Asher are ready to say I do, until a band of rabbits derail their plans. The rabbits fiasco leads to a murder an a canceling of a big wedding. Great story, good plot and surprising ending. Ellen, you've done it again!
Who doesn't love soft, fuzzy bunnies? Farmers and Gardeners, that's who. Keats, Percy, Ivy, Jilly and the rest of the gang are trying to get the wedding plans nailed down, when the bunnies invade the neighborhood. Sides are chosen. Save the bunnies or save the plants. And then a body appears to add mayhem into the mix.
Loved it just can’t read it slow enough lol! Story is good feel like something is coming for folks in the grove! Should be some excitement if Kellan was right and he is talking with the elders who knew about criminals back when! I do hope Ivy and Kellan can get together. I think they’re interesting now! Quite a few characters in this little place.
There are a lot of rabbits in the towns cemetery. It was the last thing that was expected. Someone was trying to poison them but someone else poisoned the poisoner. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
What a great series. Bunnies, murder, a wedding, who could want more! Ivy gets involved in another animal rescue & a murder in a graveyard while planning her best friend’s wedding to her brother. This book kelps your hopping until the very end!
You would think book 12 in a series would get old, but not these humorous and heart-felt animal-centric mysteries. Every character is interesting and sometimes funny. And I can’t wait for #13. Ellen Riggs, please keep writing.
Yet another great adventure with Ivy Keats and Percy. Gotta love Edna and Gertie too. Well developed plot and lots of fun along the way. Can't wait for the next book!
Laughs, tears and fear all rolled up in a wedding mystery. If you love animals and quirky people, or quirky animals and regular people you will love this book and all the others in the series!
Another excellent addition to the Bought the Farm cozy mystery series. Love this series and throughly enjoyed this book focusing on Jilly's wedding and of course a great mystery for Ivy to track.
One of the joys of reading a series like this is feeling that you are hearing news of old friends, when you read a new one. This one has some tantalising foreshadowing for the next series; it's hard to wait!
Absolutely love this series. Great characters, love Keats, Percy , the humans are fun too. Fell in love with Opal, expected Ivy to home her. Each book has a little crazy, lots of laughs, a little mystery. I was given a free ARC by the author. My review is freely and honestly given
Bunnies are threatening the wedding day for Jilly and Asher. Ivy and Keats are going to need to use all of their resources and some they don't even realize they have to be able to pull off the wedding.
Love, love this series. I can’t wait to read on to the next one they have all been a blast and get you away from all things you just don’t want to hear and see right at this time!! You will definitely enjoy!!!
I hate that this great series is almost finished! I wish it could go on & on! I love Ivy & all of her gang & will miss them! Maybe it was the bunnies but I think this may have been my favorite. Although choosing a true favorite would be difficult! Now I will impatiently await the next installment!
