About the author

Chandon Siman grew up in California, attended Cal State University of Fullerton, and graduated with a B.A. in History and a Secondary Teaching Credential. After three years teaching in Irvine, he moved with his wife and their two children to Idaho, where he currently teaches Language Arts to middle and upper grades. He loves Idaho for all the outdoor activities it offers, its friendly faces, and the small community atmosphere, and has featured the city of Boise, Idaho in his fast-paced sci-fi adventure story.

A fan of Young Adult literature, Science Fiction, and Fantasy Fiction, he has taken his passion and expertise out of the classroom to produce his first novel, Atlas and the Multiverse: Seeking Courage. Chandon wrote this novel during the pandemic; a story inspired by his children, and the books and movies he grew up on. Chandon plans to expand the world he has created with a series of books based on the same characters.

Okay, I just need to get past one scientist, he thought. Just as Atlas was about to open two portals and cause the scientist to fall through the floor, then down through the ceiling as he’d done with the soldiers, the scientist checked something on his handheld device and casually walked out of the hall. Well, that was easy, Atlas thought.

There are a lot of really great things about ATLAS AND THE MULTIVERSE: SEEKING COURAGE by Chandan Siman, an adventure book for middlegrade readers. I was engrossed for the first half of the book, despite the plot being composed of easily delivered and consumed plot points, like what can be seen in the excerpt above. I really connected to Atlas, Lilou, and Nico, three adopted kids who didn't feel like they belonged anywhere except with each other. I loved their bravery in setting out on this adventure, their unflinching desire to help and protect each other (even when their decisions defied their own logic) and the fast moving plot.

The second half of the book was a little fuzzy for me. I didn't always think the characters' decisions made sense. For example the preteen child Atlas doesn't react emotionally or mentally (that the audience can account for) when he is directly involved in the death of three guards. It's not every day a kid is in this kind of situation. Atlas's story experiences don't sufficiently explain his hardness in this scene, and Siman doesn't provide context. The lack is palpable.

Which leads me to say this book is probably a better fit for slightly older readers, who can appreciate all the action, and process through some of the more nuanced scenes and still enjoy it, like I did!

I really had such a blast with this book! Loved it! On Atlas’s first day of middle school in Boise, Idaho, a mysterious voice lures him & then appears to him, leaving him with a single clue: Find Dr. Faraday! With the help of his foster siblings Lilou & Nico, Atlas goes on a quest into the Multiverse to discover the truth about his father’s whereabouts. Their adventure takes them to countless new realms, where they encounter various characters — some friends & some foes — & through courage, overcome a series of challenges as they race to uncover the mysteries of family, friendship, & loyalty. This was such a creative story, with vivid & detailed writing. The authors attention to detail concerning the world & story he has created is superb. Transponders, P.O.R.T.A.L., wormholes, the Council, realms, multiverse, Purgatory, smugglers, realm hopping, rebels, Outliers Alliance, life-frequencies, doppelgangers, & Element X are just some examples of this. There are more lol. This story hooked me from the start. This has so much adventure, danger, suspense, action, friendship, family, bravery, & sci-if goodness. Kept me on the edge of my seat, & I read this so fast. Dr. Faraday & Nico have my heart in this for sure. Amazing characters in general in this really. Can’t wait to see what happens next, & will be keeping my eye out for the sequel! Highly recommend! Amazing cover by 1106 Design as well!💜

Review: As a Youth Librarian I am always on the lookout for new middle grade fiction that I can suggest to my young customers! This is definitely going on the list of books I’ll share with them! Atlas and his adopted siblings were a joy to get to know and to follow on their journey through the multiverse.

The SciFi vibe was great for those adventure loving readers, but the familial bond was great for readers looking for realistic connections. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse into the author’s mind through his world building and character development. I’m excited to see this book become a series because I have to know what’s in store next for Atlas and his family.

Definitely check this out if you’re looking for a fun, adventure with great lessons to read with your kids! I know I’ll be reading it again with mine!

Atlas & his siblings were adopted and with a recent move have started a new middle school. They're used to being picked on and bullied, only having one another to survive the days with. Atlas has migraines and starts hearing a voice in his head-his siblings don't believe him until a wormhole opens in their room and they see and hear the stranger for themselves. They are drawn into the multiverse on a search for Atlas' father who has been in hiding for a couple of decades.

It's a story of family, self-discovery, perseverance, and friendship. It has some semblance to Meet the Robinsons with inflections of Diary of a Wimpy Kid & Percy Jackson--an absolute adventure for middle school readers.

Atlas, Lilou and Nico are adopted siblings and just moved to a new city with their mother. Atlas is soon turning 13, he suffers from migraines, and it is getting worse. What is more embarrassing than getting one, passing out in class, in a new school, and then claiming you heard a voice… The voice is real though, it becomes clearer and claims to be his father. He is sent to find a professor that could help them save him. But the children get drawn into another world, travelling through dimensions, imprisoned (because it’s illegal to travel like that, I mean, they should have known…) and a daring escape. But can they get back home…

“He’s the man we’re looking for, and he’s the reason we’re here.” Atlas immediately wondered if this might have been a good time to lie.

This is a story for young adults with some fascinating science concepts. Imagine uncountable versions of the earth in other dimensions. Where dinosaurs survived, and humans did not, where they found different types of minerals and versions that are uninhabitable. And what if you could travel to them…

Even though I’m no longer a young adult (so far away from that…), I still enjoyed this story. The concepts were very interesting and had me imagining worlds like that. It is an adventure, the children have to figure out how everything works by themselves. I imagine younger boys would really enjoy this book.

Atlas just moved to Idaho with his adoptive mother and siblings, Lilou and Nico. Things start getting weird when on his first day at his new middle school he’s hearing a voice in his head. What could this mean? When his mom gives him a small box that belonged to his birth mother, his whole life takes a turn. One minute Atlas is being targeted by the middle school bully, and the next he is jumping through a portal to another realm. Could this realm hold the secrets of his past? Atlas and his siblings find themselves on the adventure of the lifetime: realm hopping, evil councils, new friends and Element X! Together they’ll learn what courage really means.

This book was a lot of fun! I loved the personalities of Atlas, Lilou and Nico. Atlas’ struggles are so relatable and his growth is well written. The portals/wormhole discussions I found a little confusing, but I love that Nico is there to explain it all to me! Science fiction, fun gadgets, different realms, and adventure- there is a lot to like here for adults and middle schoolers a like.

A refreshing book about siblings who were adopted by the same mom. It is filled with adventure and issues of finding your own identity. I could relate to this identity issue since I myself was adopted by my stepfather, not knowing my own biological father. This began with the main character having serious migrains which lead to hallucinations and an adventure into the Universe begins.

This would be a great read for grades 5 and up. I think older students will relate to the characters and love the story! Great first novel by this first time author! I look forward to passing this novel on and reading more from this author.

This book was a joy to read! It was easy to find myself losing track of time when reading. It's a great book to let your imagination take over. The author has created environments in the story so well that there is enough information for the reader to understand what's going on, but enough left out that the reader is able to let their imagination fill in the blanks to make their experience with the book even better. Overall, my reading experience was great, and I would definitely recommend this to others.

I devoured this middle grade, science fiction story about Atlas and his friends discovering the multiverse. I will be waiting for the next book in this series to come out! In the meantime, I am going to be getting this book for all pre-teen nephews for Christmas. I really think they will enjoy the story of a kid who goes from being bullied to being a hero! This was a very fast paced read for me. I loved the adventure and problem solving and working as a team that takes place in this book. Overall, I give it 5 stars. Any children's/middle grade book that keeps me hooked like this one did get all my stars!

Smart and Wholesome

Clean writing style and easy to read. I never found myself confused. I also enjoyed how science drove the story along without becoming ponderous--definitely hits a sweet spot of scientific challenge for mid grade readers. And, true to the target age group, everything here is clean and wholesome. A solid sci-fi adventure where the main characters engage in some clever problem solving.

This was a fun and very fast paced novel about 3 adopted siblings of the same single mom. While this maybe geared towards the Middle Grade/ Young Adult crowd it was still captivating.
Simans' writing is smooth, easily understood and was paced out that I was never confused where I was within the tale.

Highly recommended if you enjoy a quick paced, action packed, fun story about traveling the universes.

This is a great middle grade science fiction book that I’m excited for my two boys to read! It reminded me of the Hunger Games (without the killing!) for a younger crowd. Atlas is trying to find his father when he poop gets swept into the multiverse and wrapped up in a rebellion. The 3 sibling characters were enjoyable and the storyline moved at a good pace. Some of the technology talk felt a little boring to me, but if science is your thing, you’d likely feel differently!

2.5. Starts with a typical orphan kid discovering he's part of something larger but quickly escalates into prisons and eventually ends in a heist with Portal guns!
So fans of the game may enjoy it but this book is definitely designed for a younger audience

Atlas lives with his mom, sister, and brother. Adopted as an infant, he has always felt a bit out of place at home and at school, where he is often bullied. He begins having headaches and hearing a voice in his head. The voice calls him “son” and tells him to locate Dr. Faraday. This starts an adventure for Atlas and his siblings that takes them throughout the Multiverse on a quest to save his father and stop the evil P.O.R.T.A.L.

This is a great book geared toward YA audiences, but entertaining for everyone. The story is fast-paced and action-packed. It is a creative and engaging tale that focuses in on the importance of relationships and appreciating those around you, while finding the courage within oneself to face fear with confidence and determination. Find time to read this!

Atlas and the Multiverse is the story about 3 middle-school-aged siblings adopted by the same mother. Atlas suffers terrible migraines that are progressively getting worse and has started having auditory hallucinations telling him to seek the help of Dr. Faraday before it’s too late. But the voice in Atlas’s head is real and it’s up to him and his siblings the strong and brave Lilou and the incredibly intelligent Nico to find this mysterious Dr. Faraday and discover the truth about Atlas’s parents and save the multiverse from a nefarious organization!

This is a great read for middle school children especially but everyone would enjoy it! It’s fun, fast paced and full of great, positive messages of friends, family, finding courage and knowing who you are.

As a reader, you might be hesitant to read an author's first book, however the story progresses exquisitely and the he keeps our attention throughout the book.
Three adoptive siblings—Atlas, Lilou, and Nico—set off to find Atlas's father using something his birth mother passed on to him. While on their adventure, they encounter P.O.R.T.A.L., Lilou and Nico's backstory is revealed, and they learn something life-changing about Atlas and his parents.

There are so many amazing details, you just have to read the book yourself.

The book is geared toward middle-grade and YA, but can be easily read and appreciated by readers of all ages.
Atlas is a twelve-year-old orphan, notable for his remarkable height and his deep thinking, who just moved to Boise, Idaho, and a new school. Along with two other children, Nico (the smart genius of the bunch) and Lilou (the brave, sassy one), he has been entrusted to a loving foster mother, Adora.
One day, Atlas hears a voice and later has the vision of a man who urges him to accomplish an important mission: finding Dr. Faraday, a scholar who might even know something about Atlas's biological parents. With his inseparable siblings, Atlas sets out on a thrilling quest to find his father and discover an entire multiverse.

Atlas, together with his adoptive siblings, Lilou and Nico and their adoptive mom Adora moves to Boise, Idaho to start over after mom's failed relationship. The siblings aren't too keen on the move or on having to start middle school. After a run in with a bully, Atlas decides to lay low but this doesn't last for long especially when Atlas starts suffering from unexplainable progressive migranes that made him hear a voice in his head.

Having heard the voice once again along with an apparition, his genius brother Nico deduces that it must be Altas's father. This leads to a greater curiosity with Altas trying to seek his father out. Having defied Adora's wishes and saying a few hurtful words to her, Altas and his siblings find themselves on a rollercoaster ride of the lives. The siblings find themselves traveling to another realm where they're arrested by the P.O.R.T.A.L authorities. Eventually escaping, they will discover the magnitude of the multiverse and the agenda of the evil organisation who tries to possess the mulitverse. Atlas will make new friends along his journey and discover a bravery he never thought he had.

The storyline follows a young boy trying to find his identity in the world (well, Mutliverse to be precise) while at the same time focusing on the relationship between him and his siblings and their loving mother. It definitely made me want to shed a tear when Altas was finally referred by his family name which showed acceptance into a space of belong-ness. The bravery and chances one boy takes to fight for his siblings shows the strong bond between them. The love and respect for their mother is pivotal in Altas' promise to her. Definitely a bit of a surprise at the end which I wasn't expecting but wholly welcomed because it all made sense why things ended up how they're supppose to in the end.

My thoughts: This book was such a good middle grade age book, It felt like I was reading one of Rick Riordan's books, which if you knew me, you'd know that was a HUGE compliment as he is one of my all time favorite authors. The characters were lovable, the story captivated you to the very end and the sciencey stuff wasn't in your face annoying, I'm not the biggest fan of science but the way the author wrote about it, it was easy to understand and intriguing! I really enjoyed the plot, and the not so fairytale perfect parts, I always love when kids books have tragedy in them because life can be tragic! And the author did it in such a way that was easy for them to grasp. Overall this book is enjoyable to all ages! Read it! Thank you so much @katieandbreypa and the author for another fun one!

This is an entertaining book for young adults and the first in the series. It is an enjoyable read that will appeal to people within its target audience. Atlas and his foster siblings Lilou and Nico search for Atlas’ father. This leads them into the multiverse and an exciting adventure into realms where they encounter other people – some friendly, some not – on a quest to discover the truth about Atlas’ natural family.The book is an easy read.

There is, however, too much telling rather than showing within the story. I’m sure this is something the author is developing as they continue with their writing. As a reader, we need to know how the characters perceive the world and events around them, but this should be done by describing why they think another character is angry, for example, rather than just telling the reader. This is a common problem for novice writers and must be worked on to elevate the story and make it shine. Therefore, we have decided to award Atlas and the Multiverse 3 stars, leaving plenty of room for improvement. I’m sure book two and beyond will improve sufficiently to gain a four-star or higher in the future.

I would just like to start off this review by saying, I know I am not the target audience for this book. That being said, it was a fun read! And I would recommend it, especially to middle graders. It was full of action and adventure. And I really loved the adopted sibling aspect. It isn't something that you see often in books, and it was refreshing to read about. And, like most middle grade books (most books in general) the real meet of the book is Atlas finding his own identity. I am really interested to see where this story goes!

I just finished the first book of the Atlasverse series, and I am super excited to see what comes next! 🥰

This story follows Atlas and his adoptive siblings Nico and Lilou as they follow a mysterious voice that Atlas hears in his head all the way to an adventure through the Multiverse! Together, they set out in search of Atlas's birth father, which leads them on a risky journey beyond anything they've ever experienced.

This is a Middle Grade sci-fi read, but as a 22-year old I thoroughly enjoyed the story! The book is well-paced, with constant drama, danger, and action.

The siblings made a brave and adorable trio, and I enjoyed watching them work together to help the multiverse. Atlas is a hero through and through, with his desire to save everyone and unwavering loyalty towards doing what's right!

This, combined with Lilou's bravery and Nico's intelligence makes for a powerful trio. I don't think that P.O.R.T.A.L. stands a chance against them in the long run!

I'm looking forward to the next chapter in their adventures!

For a middle grade book, this was a super fun read for me! At the beginning of the book, Atlas and his adopted siblings, Lilou and Nico, have just started at a new school in a new state. They struggle with all the things that new kids struggle with, but then Atlas starts hearing voices in his head and the adventure begins!!

If you’re a fan of the Marvel universe, specifically Dr Strange and Spider-Man, this is the book for you!! Lots of tropes here like found family, lifelong friendships and lots of new discoveries! As the characters in this book are 12-13 years old, there’s obviously no spice - but it was a fun, fast paced read! Overall 4 stars!

Atlas, the likeable protagonist in Atlas and the Multiverse: Seeking Courage, by Chandon Siman, is taller than other middle-graders and struggles to fit in at school. When his father contacts him using technology assisted telepathy, Atlas is introduced to realm hopping, doppelgangers, transponders and a power-hungry organization who wants control over the multiple Earths.

I thought the protagonist might react a little more to some of his circumstances, but I found myself cheering for him and hoping his mission to save his father, his siblings, and the rebels would be successful. And I was delighted that as Atlas garners his courage, he also makes a new friend.

A fun read for middle graders, the fast-paced action in this middle-grade science fantasy also makes a great read for all ages. And the author leaves the door open for more adventures to come.

Atlas wants to find out who is biological parents are. Him and his siblings have just moved to a new school when all of a sudden Atlas keeps getting these persistent migraines. Atlas then starts hearing a vote talking to him and realizes that there is a multiverse in which he can find his biological father. I was nervous at first to read this book seeing as I thought the multiverse would become very confusing to read about. However that was not the case with this book, Siman described everything so well and it was very understandable how the multiverse worked. There also was a lot of action in this book and a lot of suspense. The characters were all very enjoyable to read about. Atlas has great character development throughout this book and he was a great main character in this story.

Atlas and the Multiverse is a fun new book series about Atlas and his two adopted siblings - Lilou and Nico. The three twelve year olds go on an exciting adventure across the universe in search of Atlas’ birth father - getting captured along the way and also discovering many different versions of Earth. I really like the three main characters and their relationship with each other. It’s all about learning who you are with a bit of science fiction and multiverse exploring thrown in. This book is a really fun read, full of adventure and I think young readers are going to really enjoy it.

The beginning of the book was almost robotic in the way they talked to each other (i understand the explanation was for the readers but its not normal for kids to say thigs like that) There was alot that could’ve been left unsaid for the audience to find out such as them being adopted. On the contrary the ending of the book was really smooth and left space for a second story if that were to ever show up. The only thing wrong with the end was the ways the author went quick with story lines that could have made a great plot such as finding “element X” or getting the people out of purgatory at the end.

Thank you Chandon for giving me this book for an honest review! I really enjoyed this book. I haven't really read middle grade lately, so it did take me a while to get into the writing style. I really enjoyed the pacing of the book. It didn't feel rushed at all, and pertinent information was given at the right times (sorry, trying to avoid spoilers). I loved the plot twists and the set up for more books in the series. The characters were very relatable as 12/13 year olds (especially having one of my own). Thank you for this fantastic book and I look forward to more adventures with Atlas and the gang!
