At least, he's not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

Mind blowing graphic audio. The cinematic music, the cast and obviously such an amazing plot makes it such a mesmerizing audiobook.

As someone who's read ACOTAR multiple times, I didn't think I could experience it for the first time again and yet I did.

Part 1 is a bit slower as we follow Feyre in the Spring Court. The voice actor for her character gets Feyre's expressions on point. Tamlin's voice can come across as a bit cold at the beginning but one warms up to it slowly. Lucien's voice suits the character completely. The interactions these characters have with each other makes you completely immersed in the story and I loved it. The chemistry is there between the characters and lowkey made me fall in love with Tamlin again...yeah that's gonna end badly.

I usually don't like audiobooks cause of my bad experience with the narration, but going with the graphic audio was the best decision. Onwards to Part 2 which is going to be more action packed and I'm so ready for it!!

Happy New Year everyone 🎊

That was an experience! The GraphicAudio absolutely smashed it! The background music, sound effects, and full cast elevated the story to 5 gleaming stars! Wow! I had goosebumps pretty much the whole time! My only question is, why am I still thinking about Lucien from this book?!

If you are a fan of the series, this is a MUST!!! I highly recommend this for a reread!

BC Everyone says this audio is fire and my SS finally convinced me!!

"There you are. I've been looking for you."

WOW!!!! You guys were all SO right?! This is audiobook is FIRE!! The sound effects and the voices are crazy good! How will I ever go back to regular audiobooks after this?!

Just some thoughts:
-Feyre was always a baddie from the JUMP!! She is so underrated sometimes. I love her so much; she is my girl. 💙 I like how the voice actress sounds like she is 19 and is sassy like I imagined her being.
-Tamlin is so growly! I have to admit it's hot! You guys all know that we were all hot for him in the beginning!! Don't even try and lie!! 😂
-Lucien is such an MVP. I think his voice actor is perfect!
-RHYSAND 😍😍😍

On to listen to part 2!! Can't wait to get to under the mountain!!!!

“There you are. I’ve been looking for you,”

Rhys saying this hits so different now that I know why he said THIS the first moment he met Feyre 🥺

This was my first audiobook or graphic audio in general and damn it was such an amazing experience. I loved and enjoyed every second of it. The background music, the soundtrack, the casting, the Nagas and Suriels' voices and the sound effects. Everything was perfect.

I would've give this 5 stars had Tamlin not growled every five minutes in this 😃 like I know he can change into a beast but that doesn't mean he needs to growl in his human form.

✅ Beauty and the Beast retelling
✅ Strong main character
✅ Lucien and Rhys
✅ Action
✅ Captivity & horrible villain
✅ Romance
✅ Hate to love
✅ Fake-out make-out
✅ Magic and faes
✅ Great world-building
❗️❗️ Trigger warnings: torture, murder, mild gore, imprisonment, use of alcohol, and kind of emotional abuse

**4.5 stars for this first half, but while this first part of the dramatized adaptation covers Feyre's time in the Spring Court until she goes back to her family, the review is for the whole book.

Fifth read/listen: The dramatized adaptation is truly a work of art. ❤️❤️❤️

I am still hopelessly in love with Lucien. I need him to get his HEA.

I might have screeched when Rhysand first came in, with his famous “There you are, I’ve been looking for you” line.

This series is one of my all-time favorites. ❤️

The first part of the book is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a fae twist. After Feyre killed a fae in the woods while hunting, she has to yield her life to Prythian, the fae lands, in retribution. She is forced to go live with Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court. Feyre hates faes, but of course, she ends up falling in love with Tamlin (even though Lucien is so much more interesting 🙄). She realizes that the faes in Prythian are the victims of a curse, but no one can explain to her clearly what the curse is, or how to break it. Eventually, Feyre will have to choose between going back to her quiet and peaceful human life or risking her life to break the curse and save the faes of Prythian.

"So," he said wearily, “here we are, with the fate of our immortal world in the hands of an illiterate human.”

This is more than a Beauty and the Beast retelling. There are twists and turns, many interesting and great characters, and a roller-coaster of emotions and you end up with an amazing book! 😍

I’d long since given up hope of them actually noticing whether I came back from the woods every evening. At least until they got hungry again.

The first part of the book is more about getting acquainted with Feyre and her family. She has been responsible for the survival of her family for the last 5 years, and they have been ungrateful and even cruel to her. I was so angry with Nesta and even Elain, that I wanted to slap some sense into them… Ungrateful spoiled brats. 😤

"Lucien," my captor said quietly, the name echoing with a hint of a snarl. "Behave."
Lucien went rigid, but he hopped off the edge of the table and bowed deeply to me."My apologies, lady." Another joke at my expense. "I'm Lucien. Courtier and emissary." He gestured to me with a flourish. "Your eyes are like stars, and your hair is like burnished gold."

“I might die of surprise,” Lucien said behind me. “You made a joke, Feyre.”

Then, we get to know Tamlin and Lucien when Feyre travels to the Spring Court. From that point, there was never a dull moment. Between Lucien’s sarcasm and Feyre’s temper (and Tamlin’s unending growling). I laughed out loud a few times; I loved their banter so much, and the relationship development between Feyre and the faes is very well written.

There is more action and more important developments in the last third of the book. It sets a different pace as we start to move away from the traditional Beauty and the Beast retelling and go more into the unique world and plot that make up the rest of the series.

The world-building is great, as are the characters (especially Rhysand and Lucien ❤️). I like how the human realm is set completely apart from the fae realm, even though they share a border. They have no contact with each other, yet they are only separated by a wall and their mutual hatred for the other race. Humans hate faes because they used to have human slaves hundreds of years ago until they signed a peace treaty and released all their slaves. Faes either don’t care about humans or they find them inferior and are still angry that they can’t keep them as slaves anymore.

I found him carefully studying me, his lips in a thin line. “Has anyone ever taken care of you?” he asked quietly.
“No.” I’d long since stopped feeling sorry for myself about it.

“Don't feel bad for one moment about doing what brings you joy.”

Feyre is a good main character in this book, but I know she will be even better in the next books. I admire her determination and her resiliency, but at times she made some stupid or naive decisions, although I can understand why she behaved the way she did. I saw how she ended up having a foot in each world, and how she is trying to define herself now that she finally has some time for herself and now that she doesn't have the responsibility of taking care of and feeding her whole family. I also really enjoyed discovering the different fae courts and how the High Lords all have certain affinities, and I am eager to see how it is developed further in the next book.

Tamlin is not that bad for now, but he does already display controlling and condescending behaviors near the middle and the end of the book, and I know what’s coming in ACOMAF. Writing this review after my second time reading this series means that I am not 100% objective, but I think my main issue with him in this book is how boring he is compared to other males. There is some sexual tension between Feyre and him, but he seems to lack true depth, and when push comes to shove, he is not willing to put his neck on the line to help Feyre, and is rather useless in the last part of the book (in my opinion, my apologies to all the Tam-fans out there).

“Do you ever stop being so serious and dull?"
"Do you ever stop being such a prick?" I snapped back.
Dead—really, truly, I should have been dead for that.
But Lucien grinned at me. "Much better.”

It took me a long while to realize that Rhysand, whether he knew it or not, had effectively kept me from shattering completely.

My two favorite characters are, without a doubt, Lucien and Rhysand. I do have a thing for feisty and sarcastic characters with long red hair, and mysterious, morally grey males with a soft side. I loved Lucien from the very first time he appeared in the story, and I fell in love with Rhysand during Feyre’s time under the mountain.

So yeah... I am IN LOVE with this book. And with Rhysand. And with Lucien. 😍
You have to read this series. It’s probably my all-time favorite.

But if I could give this more I TOTALLY would!!!!

This was an utterly amazing experience! The cast, music, sound effects and voice acting just adds a whole new level to this book, that I would actually urge anyone who loves ACOTAR, or even those who don’t…to give this experience a try!

I was completely lulled, entranced and captivated by the spell of Prythian that it made for a very unproductive me at work…. (don’t tell my boss) as all I wanted to do was pay attention and listen.

This is NOT a traditional audiobook, you won’t find any “he said”, “she said” in this. Instead the characters will actually just speak, so the flow of dialog actually follows the form of real conversation between people. This is not “word for word” the original text from the story either. Lines would be adapted for the audio so a character who stutters a line would ACTUALLY stutter as they said the line instead of “Feyre” saying “he stuttered as he said”…

BUT don’t let the adaption part scare you….this is just amazing! Totally something to shout about from rooftops and place on billboards!

I cannot wait for part two!!!

⊱--------------------------⊰

Based on SK's❤️ amazing review on this....I NEEDED THIS EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE.

My hold finally came through from the library! Guess I have something to listen to at work now..... eeeeeeeeek

4 stars for part 1. The GraphicAudio production is amazing as ever and it's always fun to experience beloved series this way. However, the source material doesn’t involve much dialogue which lessened my enjoyment somewhat. I also forgot how slow the first half of this book is… Thankfully, we do get a glimpse of Rhysand at Calanmai at the end of this part. I was kind of nervous we wouldn’t. Looking forward to the next part which will be released soon.

5 stars for part 2. Rhysand. 🥰 That’s all I’m gonna say about this part. Oh, and the kissy sounds sure take some getting used to. (This is my first GraphicAudio production that has some action…)

Narration type: Full Cast Duet Narration – Dramatized Adaptation

The heroine: Feyre (sounds like Fey-ra) - she is a nineteen-year-old girl, hunting in the woods, because it is winter and her family has run out of food. The hunters had warned her not to be out in the forest too late in the day because large wolves lurk deep in the woods in numbers and tall, unearthly folks have also been spotted. The village is only two days from the immortal border of Prythian, and hasn’t been attacked in a while, so they had been lucky.

The Hero: Tamlin - he is one of the high fae, in beast form, he was a huge golden wolf-like animal with wide elk horns. Prythian was separated and ruled by seven high lords, who had such immense power they could level cities. Tamlin was one of the merciless warriors and one of the high lords of Prythian. There was a blight and a curse on Prythian and many of the residents had already left. The curse had them always in masks that they could not remove except when they are in their beast forms.

The Story: Feyre is about to leave the forest when she spots a huge deer that her family really needed. When she sees a pair of golden eyes and the forest became quiet. A wolf was also hunting the deer, with unnatural slyness. She suspected the wolf may be faerie, since it was too big to be so stealthy. She aimed her arrow at the wolf and took her shot. She knew she could not afford to miss, since she only had one ash arrow, said to be able to kill a faerie. She was fine with the killing after all they had done to her world. She wanted the doe and was able to kill the deer right after he attacked the deer.

Feyre was able to grab the deer and bring it home to her sisters. Her sister Elaine was patently oblivious to their situation, so Feyre was the one that did the most for her father and sisters. Her older sister Nesta had been angry at their father for losing their fortune. Nesta was often mean and stole money from Feyre if she didn’t hide it. Their father just uselessly talked about someday getting their fortune back, though his injured leg prevented him from doing anything about it. His leg was injured by creditors who wanted their pound of flesh.

The night after the killing of the wolf, a huge golden beast showed up at their home, calling Feyre a murderer. She immediately knew it was a faerie, and she said it was mistakenly killed and offered payment of some sort. He demanded what was his based on the treaty, a human life. She admitted that it was her that killed the wolf and that she knew what she had been doing when she killed it. The beast threatened to kill her by tearing her to shreds, or she can cross the wall and live out her days in his home in Prythian, forsaking the human realm. She went with him, all the while planning to someday slit his throat.

“I’d be little more than a lamb in a kingdom of wolves.”

“I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.”

“I found him carefully studying me, his lips in a thin line. “Has anyone ever taken care of you?” he asked quietly.
“No.” I’d long since stopped feeling sorry for myself about it.”

I put this book off as long as I possible could, but the full cast dramatized adaptation is on Audible Plus for only a few more weeks, so I finally gave in. I generally wouldn’t pick up a book like this, because the blurb really didn’t interest me. I find stories of the fae courts a bit too similar to historical romance. But I really couldn’t call myself a romance reader without reading or listening to at least the first book or two in this series, since it is so hugely popular. I think I was afraid it just wouldn’t live up to all the hype. I’ll have to admit the beginning hunt scene gave me shades of Katniss in The Hunger Games. Though I did immediately get immersed in the story and you couldn’t help but like Feyre. Her sisters reminded me a bit of Cinderella’s stepsisters.

This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in full cast duet narration. Performed by Melody Muze, Henry W. Kramer, Gabriel Michael, Natalie Van Sistine, Debi Tinsley, Bradley Foster Smith, Alejandro Ruiz, Christopher Graybill, Julie Hoverson, Karenna Foley, Eric Messner, Anthony Palmini, Steve Wannall, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Laura C. Harris, Michael John Casey, Scott McCormick, Richard Rohan, Karen Novack, Nora Achrati, and Nanette Savard. The first thing the book says is “Graphic Audio: A movie in your mind” and all I can say is that is exactly what this is.

…the bullet points

➨ romantasy (romance + fantasy)
➨ fae world
➨ a curse
➨ beauty and the beast retelling
➨ definitely more adult than ya
➨ graphic audio edition parts 1 & 2 (published 3/8/2022 & 3/28/2022)

I first listened to this back in 2017 and I wasn’t really into it. After listening to the Graphic Audio edition I can definitely say that I wasn’t fond of the original narrator because I was able to stay in the story perfectly with the dramatization of this book.

My overall enjoyment of this book was heavily influenced by the full cast narration because the story itself did have some problematic concerns. Since there are over 100,000 reviews of this book on GR…all I’m going to add is that there are valid points made for and against this book and most likely the series overall. I haven’t listened to book #2 at all…but I have an idea of where the story is headed and I’m not sure how I feel about that…so we’ll see. I'm getting serious Stephen/Elena/Damon vibes here...

…about the narration
➨ 🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️/5 LOVED IT!

➨ Everyone gave a fantastic performance and the cast included Melody Muze as Feyre, Henry W. Kramer as Tamlin, Gabriel Michael as Lucien, Anthony Palmini as Rhysand, Debi Tinsley as Alis, and Ann Flandermeyer as Amarantha; with Natalie Van Sistine, Bradley Foster Smith, Alejandro Ruiz, Christopher Graybill, Julie Hoverson, Karenna Foley, Eric Messner, Steve Wannall, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Laura C. Harris, Michael John Casey, Scott McCormick, Richard Rohan, Karen Novack, Nora Achrati, Terence Aselford, Matthew Bassett, Yasmin Tuazon, Nanette Savard, and Shanta Parasuraman.

O M G that was amazing!
I didn't know what to think of this going in to it, but I'm so glad I listened. It was done so well and was an incredible experience having all the characters have their own voice.
It took me a little bit to get use to all the extra background sounds (ie. fireplace crackling, footsteps, etc.), but once I did, it just enhanced the overall story. I'm definitely continuing on with the rest of the series like this.

The Graphic Audio Review:
5 STARS!

_____________
I know, I know, I know! I'm VERY much late to this party! In my defense, from what I've seen of people talking about this novel on social media I sincerely thought this was going to be a heavy world-building big fantasy book (which isn't always something my mood reader brain is up for), but it's lowkey not? I'm just confused. I think I may have concocted my own misconceptions of this series without verifying anything because I knew I would get to it at SOME POINT and refused to mistakenly read any spoilers in the meantime.

So due to all the hype this series in general gets on social media, I had VERY HIGH expectations, and...um... it lowkey fell short of all of them? If I'm being frank, I've read much better books than this. Specifically indie/self-published books (in years past and not necessarily solely in the fantasy genre, just books in general). Is this book good? Sure. Have I read much better? Yes. That isn't to say it isn't worth it only that it did not live up to the hype it has on social media.

Onto the story! It was interesting and overall entertaining. I wasn't bored at any point throughout the journey and it kept my attention very well. Tamlin is bae and Lucien's sass was fun to be around. I absolutely despised Feyre's family. I still don't get the Rhysand hype but I'm betting it'll get it as the series progresses.

The Graphic Audio Review:
5 STARS!

I ADORE THIS COMPANY! THEY SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF ALL THE AUDIOBOOKS EVER. Their audiobooks are so relaxing and make any story they get their hands on that much better. I've pushed myself through dreadful stories because they had a Graphic Audio version.

A very meaty YA fantasy. I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoy things like The Hunger Games, but the attention to detail and the action was very well done. It also appeared a lot more mature than many YA books. Love the description of the fantasy worlds.

Reread: Part 1 of the dramatized adaptation 10/31/24

It's been 7 years since I read the book. My good friend Catherine is starting the series so I thought I'd a refresher so I can finish the series with her (and read the Crescent City series with her). She suggested I try the "graphic audios" and I am glad I did. It sure makes things go faster and it has a lot of things to recommend it. You can feel a sense of space in some of the dialogue and it really makes Tamlin and Rhysand come to life!

I'm not really that much into audio books, but im trying it out. What better way then to try this grafic audio? I thought it was great to listen to🤩 I liked the narrator, and all the other characters voices, and I liked the sound effectS. That being said, maybe they should work on that winnowing sound.. it sounds like a bad Si-fi 😅
I all ready made a review on the book, so this is just about the audio version ⭐️

This book was amazing I enjoyed everything about it. All the characters were amazing and the world building in this story was perfect. When I finished all I wanted was more. More of Prythian, more Tamlin, just more everything. Anyway to start off. This book starts off in the forest when Feyre is out hunting to make sure that her family has food because they are very poor. While in the woods she kills a wolf which ends up being a fae. Because of this she has to go live with Tamlin in his manner. Tamlin and his the rest of his court are under a spell which was put on them by Amarantha. This story was a beautiful beauty and the beast retelling but was also its own story which I liked. I can't wait for the rest of the series comes out so that I can find out what happens to all the characters after this book. I have read also one other book by Sarah J Maas and will definitely pick up more of her works in the future.

I loved the audiobook but the dramatized adaptation may be even better. It's just so fun to hear the sound effects and the beautiful music and all the characters' voices! Tamlin's laugh always made me smile. I'm eager to continue with the second half of ACOTAR. I KNOW, but I also kinda miss days spent with Tamlin, back when things were simple. lol

Okay, now that I know the story, this first chunk was good but also mildly boring.. It actually reads like a totally different story than THE STORY.
Yet again I find myself to be a Lucian stan. He's absolutely the most charismatic and interesting character in the Spring Court storyline.
The rest reads like a nice fairytale with the Calanmai interruption of "the most beautiful man I've ever seen" 💗
I have to admit that interaction alone was worth the other 20 chapters...
I just melted when the voice actor pronounced “There you are. I’ve been looking for you,” 🖤
Now I'm onto part 2, which will definitely receive a higher rating since it's the best part of the book!

So... I've unlocked another reread... But I got my hands on the dramatised adaptation!
I should stop adding things on my reading list. But I don't want to.
