Chu Yu was good-looking and had a good family background. Despite being male and an irredeemable slacker, he was still elected as Jianing Private School’s school flower by an overwhelming number of votes.
The whole school knew that Chu Yu was on bad terms with the second year’s top student who’d won so many awards from various competitions that his hand had gone limp with exhaustion just from holding them. He was the cold, restrained, taciturn, and indifferent to anyone school grass, Lu Shi.
That was until one certain day after school, when someone saw Chu Yu amongst the trees behind the school building, pulling on the sleeves of the study god’s white shirt while speaking pitifully, “Lu Shi, give me a bite, I’ll be gentle.”
Lu Shi put his finger in Chu Yu’s mouth. “It doesn’t matter if it hurts a little.”
---
Chu Yu was horrified to find that somehow he’d awakened a bizarre bloodline overnight. He needed to suck a drop of blood or two every day to survive, but everyone’s blood was bitter and smelly, except… Lu Shi’s.
#The Heavens must be pitting against me#
---
When the two kissed, Lu Shi’s lip split, and a bit of blood trickled out; fragrant and sweet. Chu Yu couldn’t help but repeatedly lick and bite at Lu Shi’s lips.
Lu Shi supported Chu Yu’s waist and chuckled, “So greedy, hm?”
No, ¿verdad?
This book was not perfect, and I admit there are some loose ends and questionable moments, but I LOVED IT. That's it. I'm going to be partial for once and follow my heart.
I read some reviews and they pointed out some things that I also noticed but my mind ignored them. For example, the fact that MC turned into a pseudo-vampire without reason, and you will never know why 😂. I think it is kind of like life itself. Things happen and you won't have answers for everything, the important thing is to adapt and move forward. I understand the frustration of not having this big detail in a story explained. Maybe the author just felt like the book needed some spice 😂. Either way, I found it interesting and enjoyed all the sexual tension and erotic moments that this factor made possible.
In general, a beautiful story of two damaged teenagers who heal each other and try to be better for one another.
There are some dark subjects, mentions of child abuse and negligence, suicidal thoughts, and depiction of death for starting. Beware if you are a sensible reader.
You start out this story thinking that Lu Shi is the crazy, obsessive one, but really quickly you realize that he views his relationship with Chu Yu as one of possession because he never loved anyone like that before. Therefore, he could only define love as merely feeling possessive.
His character growth is incredible. He starts from using his blood to tie Chu Yu to him into someone that actually wants to live and find happiness. He never fully stops being crazy because who gets their boyfriend’s name tattooed onto them as a high schooler, but Chu Yu starts to match his crazy. Instead of being put off by any of Lu Shi’s behavior, Chu Yu acts even more dependent in order to tie Lu Shi to him. You realize that everything they do is just to make sure the other won’t leave. They have deep seated abandonment issues, but somehow, they match each other’s freak.
[I got into a terrible reading slump so ignore the dates]
this was everything to me and i’m never getting over them. read if you like mutual toxic codependency and blood drinking used for intimacy purposes hehe. was it a masterpiece? to me, yes!!! i don’t care and i want their relationship.
I didn’t think they were going to be so codependent and toxic but it was a mutual codependency and obsession so good for them? I enjoyed two things out of the book. One: I loved the scene where Chu Yu stands up to his mother. It was powerful and kind and strong. It was the best written part in the whole story for me. Two: I enjoyed the subplot of revenge and murder mystery. It wasn’t amazing but eventful and sad enough. I liked the way Lu shi was written during those parts. His indifferent nature and overall murderous vibes came off very powerful in those scenes. The rest of the book was tedious with characters I had a hard time caring for like Lu shi and Chu Yu weren’t that great and the side characters were rather dry. I found that there was a lot of eating and biting and licking and sleeping ( so much) and itchiness (why was this word mention so much???) happening throughout the book that I just got too overwhelmed with it all and became turned off. I am very disappointed that Chu Yu’s vampirism never went anywhere???!! Did it come from the dad? Does he have an extended life force now? What is he exactly? It could’ve been explored so much more. It was never answered and that felt cheap. I think it was mainly used for plot device and to show a form of raw intimacy and sexual tension because of the Chinese censorship. Overall, a lukewarm read ngl.
We'll just get the most important part of it the way right up front: the blood drinking is a plot device. There's no real explanation for it, no one else has it, it's mostly there to bring the two characters together and then be a kinky relationship thing. I knew that going into the novel and I think that made it easier for me to accept it but ymmv.
As far as the actual story is concerned, I actually really enjoyed this one. Could the two of them use some actual therapy to deal with their emotional issues? God yes. But I will say that I didn't overly feel like this story relied on a love cures all mental problems outlook. The ML doesn't stop needing some sort of release on the pressure he's dealing with. They do develop a somewhat acknowledged unhealthy codependency on each other. But they're also still young and I can see them growing and healing over time, together.
All in all, a pretty decent novel with some sexy blood drinking scenes if that's your thing.
Weirdly compelling mix of cute coming of age story and dark family drama and dynamics. The codependence and possessiveness are pros for me, but I know it's not for everyone, so fair warning.
Chu Yu and Lu Shi kind of remind me of the boys in Lovely Allergen, except yandare and more codependent. And it works because Lu Shi doesn't hide his possessiveness and paranoia when he realizes his feelings and Chu Yu consents to being in this type of codependent relationship because he also wants it and needs it. Both are traumatic boys dealing with many problems, on top of this random turning into a vampire thing, and it was enjoyable seeing how they opened up to each other and watching their growth.
My main complaint is that there's no extras! I understand why the author left it at the ending and didn't need to have extras, but I want to see their future! I want to see them be amazing as adults and what shenanigans their friends are still up to!
Actually I hope Chu yu's relationship with his mother doesn't end like that. When Lu Shi is completely done with his family matters, I think Chu Yu still can't be said to be finished. Maybe it can be used as a new conflict, or have a better ending.
Then, doesn't this story start with "eating blood"? But why no explanation at all about it? I feel like that's a huge plot hole that hasn't been explained yet.
Just the way MC and ML care about each other in the low and high moments is perfection. I really love how they support each other in those time when they have to face those people who make them the most vulnerable- The MC with his mother and ML when he have to face his stepmother and father- i love also how healthy and respectful they relationship was even when Neither of them can be separated from each other.
2.5 If you don't like the type of relationships where they are codependent, this ain't for you. I personally don't mind it but it's kinda annoying in this one. What I really disliked is that Chu Yu's vampirism goes completely unexplained the whole way. Overall sweet and it turned darker than I expected, a little more murder mystery than I would have liked.
read it quite a while ago and i remembered liking it a lot!the beginning was a tad bit boring honestly, but as the story progressed it became better & better and i simply adore the MCs too!!
Very sweet, especially watching the two get through some very real and relatable issues. Just keep in mind that the premise exists as the premise- there's no explanation nor conclusion for it. Loved reading about the growing relationship <33
3,5/5 It was addicting at first but the last 30% of the novel were a little disappointing, it’s fine though. I would have done it differently but who am I to judge. Sad that the vampire thing was never explained (only used as a plot device)
Don't look at me, I enjoyed it, I have no idea why tho, but the vibe and everything felt just super good imo. questionable moments, crazy rich chinese parents, supernatural elements without explanation and fantasy tropes that make no sense aside, it was a nice ride.
i’ll count is as read even though i left it at 70% it was alright. i kinda liked the relationship between the mcs and i like the blood sucking aspect, but that’s about it
I didn't read the summary and did not expect the vampire side of this lol. I enjoyed it, too many loose ends which is a shame as it is a nice story. Reminds me of Green Plum Island in the way the fantastical ability never gets explained but in that novel it kind of makes sense and I enjoyed it being unexplained. In this story it didn't feel right the way it is left out. It does feel like something the author didn't fully develop or explored. I liked the melancholic vibe though.
