I got this comic as part of FCBD.

This is another FCBD read that is split into two stories. The first story is set during the High Republic and mainly follows Lily, a jedi, resolving that she needs to trust in herself and the force to be a good teacher to her padawan and a good padawan to her master. It was nice and quick, and the art style was very anime which I enjoyed. The second followed Churrit Imwe, a familiar face from Rogue One as he helps following an explosion, falling back on his faith. I bought volume 1 of High Republic not too long ago, so I'm really looking forward to reading it fully.

Billed as “a prelude to IDW's Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series” this is, in fact, not that. Instead it’s set after the novel Race to Crashpoint Tower and before the second arc of High Republic Adventures, plus is reprints some of High Republic Adventures #1.

The story, such as it is, is very slight, little to nothing happens and the art is nowhere good as it is in the regular High Republic Adventures book. I’m a little disappointed. I know these IDW books are aimed at a younger audience, but the High Republic one, so far, has been a lot more grown up and truly “all ages” than the regular Star Wars Adventures comic.

This is really only for completionists, of which I’m one, and young kids who you’re just introducing to comics. Although, for them, I’m not sure they’d have any clue as to who anyone is or what’s going on.

Huge effort.

Idw comics, Disney and lucasfilm combine to being you this Fcbd offering. Suitable for all ages. Good color artwork. Two stories from the high republic series, books 1and 8 excerpts. Intro to new jedi.

The idea of telling an original story in separate books from disparate points of view is really starting to pay off for this project.

Two padawan-focused stories set after Race to Crashpoint Tower and teasing future stuff in High Republic Adventures. I really dig the overall look for the most part.

I just love these comics because they're just so nice to read before getting into the chaos of everything else.

I missed the chance to pick this up on Free Comic Book day this year, but a friend grabbed an extra copy so I could read it (along with the other High Republic FCCB 2021 issue, Star Wars: The High Republic – The Edge of Balance/Guardian of the Whills.)

While the other one is just a sampler for full manga releases (which look fairly intriguing), this one will be more important for the completionists out there who want to make sure they experience every story entry related to the High Republic (such as myself)- because it actually as a story of its own inside.

The story it tells is fun, but going forward, probably won't be essential to understand other High Republic stories. It takes place right after the events of Race to Crashpoint Tower, before The High Republic Adventures #8, and was probably intended for the nitpicky lore nuts who insist on having a detailed explanation for everything (and I'm not ashamed to admit that I can be guilty of that). After The High Republic Adventures Vol. 1 (issues 1-5), Lula Talisola and Zeen split off from the rest of the party to star in "Race To Crashpoint Tower", while Qort and Farzala continue the Adventures comic story in issues #6 and #7 by themselves with the help of the crew of The Vessel from Into the Dark. This one-shot shows what Lula and Zeen (along with Ram Jomaram) were up to after the book and before they presumably rejoin Qort and Farzala in the rest of the Adventures comics.

The writing and artwork is about what you would expect for something you can find on Free Comic Book Day- passable.
The characterization of Ram, Lula, and Zeen is consistent with what we've seen from earlier issues of The High Republic Adventures and Race to Crashpoint Tower (no surprise, given that Daniel Jose Older wrote both of those and this one-shot). Also, I like how this continues the trend of keeping these child characters grounded- they can hold their own against simple Nihil thugs, but they aren't facing whole armies or winning "boss fights" without any trouble (unless they have the backing of jedi masters like Yoda or Buckets of Blood).
That being said, you aren't going to get any substantial character introductions here, and those who have been keeping up with the other High Republic stories featuring them won't learn anything new. The artwork isn't bad, but it's not on the level of the rest of the High Republic Adventures series and especially not on the level of some of the visuals from the Cavan Scott comic.

As for the sampler from the main High Republic Adventures series shown in the second half of this issue, it does what it needs too. I've already been keeping up with the series that the sampler teases so it didn't do anything for me.

As for my recommendation, take it for what it is. If you missed Free Comic Book Day 2021, I don't think you need to go out of your way to hunt down a copy of this, but if you managed to grab one at your local comic shop on the day of release, I would consider it a good decision.

Tohle je sešit z free comic book day, takže nemůžeme čekat nic extra exkluzivního. Art je ale tady překvapivě hezčí, než u posledního sešitu a i příběh není špatný. Takže fajn věc.

”My name is Ram Jomaram… and one day I’ll change the galaxy.”

This little extra issue of the High Republic Adventures series is pretty much an epilogue to Daniel José Older's novel Race to Crashpoint Tower, as it picks up pretty much exactly where the book ended. Ram, Lula and Zeen have gotten the comm towers to work, but the the fight at the Republic Fair on Valo is not yet over.

I love these three characters so much. Lula and Zeen are some of my favorites of the High Republic so far, and Ram is an absolute sweetheart. I relate to him quite a lot. I also really enjoy the friendship that grew between Ram and the two girls in Race to Crashpoint Tower, and I cannot wait to see them work and grow together in the comic series. Though this issue doesn't have a grand plot or anything like that - it's just the kids trying to help whoever they can - I just love getting to spend more time with these characters.

Also, Ty Yorrick makes a brief appearance, and I always love a good Ty moment.

Definitely give this issue a read if you enjoyed Race to Crashpoint Tower or have liked the Adventures comic series!

The Star Wars universe is amazing as a place where you can have hundreds of interrelated stories all going on at once or connected through time. That’s great, but it’s also hard to keep track of each time period and their specific stories and relevant details. That’s what this is. Very good story among a whole universe of other ones. Probably will be a great series.
