In Randolph County in Alabama zijn er enkele brandstichtingen geweest in zwarte kerken. De nieuwe politie-inspecteur Jace Nolan vermoedt dat de daders leerlingen zijn van een school voor hoogbegaafden. Maar Lindsey Sloan, docente in deze school, kan dit niet geloven. Dan worden er enkele aanslagen op Lindsey gepleegd, het enige motief kan zijn dat ze veel contact heeft met Jace. En hierbij blijft het niet, enkele leerlingen van de school plegen zelfmoord, en dan wordt zelfs de directeur dood teruggevonden, ogenschijnlijk ook een zelfmoord. Maar hierbij blijkt er toch wel meer aan de hand te zijn, en hoe dieper Jace gaat graven, hoe gevaarlijker de situatie wordt. Tot de bloedige excalatie volgt.....
Ik vond dit een heel spannend boek, eigenlijk wist men van het begin dat het om deze hoogbegaafde leerlingen ging, maar ik werd wel dikwijls op een zijspoor gezet over wie nu juist de dader/s zou/den kunnen zijn. Aangename lectuur.

Mystery is not a genre I generally read, but I'm finding myself drawn to them lately…

✧Breakdown of Rating✧
Plot: 4.3/5 Intriguing premise, I thought from the synopsis that I had this figured out, but it surprised me. I really found the mystery of it, fairly riveting.
Characters: 3/5 Lindsey, was mostly likable, I just didn't connect with her fully. Jace, was a little weird at times, maybe if we were in his head more often, I would have felt differently.
The Feels: 3/5 They were a rather absent for me, and I wanted more passion from them. The romance seemed like something that just happened but wasn’t really going anywhere.
Theme: 4/5
Flow: 4/5
Originality: 5/5 For me…it was very original.

I was looking for a book title with the letters C, C and B in it for a reading challenge, I wasn't having any luck with anything I had on my TBR so I looked at some posts from other people in the challenge and came across this book, it sounded interesting, I requested it at my library, and hey…I found something I wouldn't have normally found otherwise…this is why I love reading challenges.

I'm pretty sure this is my first Gayle Wilson novel....at least my first Gayle Wilson suspense novel, and I really enjoyed it!
Jace was aloof and tortured, just the way I like them! Lindsay was a little naive, and she really had me believing in some of her students. I had one of the bad guys figured out from the start, but the others kinda threw me for a loop. These teens were a little scary, and the dramatic climax of the novel could have been ripped from the headlines today. My only wish is that the motivation of these villains could have been explained a little better. It seemed to me the author was saying hey, they're just evil and brilliant, and brilliantly evil. I don't usually mind it so much, but it was a little disconcerting when dealing with high school students.
The romance was well-done, and the ending was a happy one in that respect. I will definitely be picking up more books by this author!

Even though the suspense got off to a rocky start for me, I eventually got swept up in it and had to keep reading. The romance didn't work quite as well. Given the subject matter of the suspense, I found any "mushy love stuff" pretty jarring. And in the end, when the hero and heroine blissfully joke about making babies together? I mean, AFTER THAT ENDING?!?!?! Yeah, just way too soon.

This story was a complete domino effect. You would figure one part out, but then you’d have a thousand more questions that joined it. I was constantly trying to guess who did it, and I was always wrong. This story throws you for a complete loop, and make you distrust every character. Even the main characters. I wasn’t sure it it was going to turn in one of those psychological thrillers were the main character was the evil mastermind all along, collateral damage,or if they were one of driving factors that lead the bad guy to what they were doing.
I’m definitely not going to tell you now that I know, because it’s definitely something you need to experience, and figure out all on your own.
The characters were real and truly relatable. You could feel what they were feeling the entire time, because it reflected on true feelings we’ve all felt before. The thoughts and self doubts were on point.
I loved Jace and Lindsey’s dynamic. Their chemistry was undeniable, and their pull to each other was inevitable. They really made this story what it was, they made it even better.
The support characters kept your feet firmly planted, and your interest peaked. You wanted to know just as much about them as you did the mains.
Overall, this book is amazing. It keeps you consistently involved, and on the edge of your seat. This is a true cover to cover read worth multiple rereads. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants a little everything in their stories. You get action, suspense, horror, and even romance. This book has it all!

Very well done, but difficult to read. One hates to think that such smart kids could be so evil. Lindsey, the gifted coordinator of the school, of course, does not believe any of her kids could be involved in the terrible things that are occurring in her town, but Jace, the detective assigned to the case, believes otherwise, as does her best friend and school counselor, Shannon. Is she wrong? And, if so, will it cost her life?

Had to read it off and on due to my doctors appointments and then getting pretty sick; but the story was so strong and suspenseful enough to stick with me. A hard to put down book that gave the opportunity for the reader to try and piece things together before the story revealed the slight twist. I can’t wait to read more of Gayle Wilson’s exquisite books !

A mystery with a bit of sizzle is how I would describe this book. The characters are recognizable as those you may know in your life and the plot is something that could be torn from today's headlines. There is mystery, romance, and twists and turns.

Murder and sex. It was like reading a Candlelight romance while people were getting murdered around the two main characters. It was another quick in between read, not much special but ok enough for during a rainy day.

The romance was unrealistic and predictable. I found the dialogue to be stilted. The student characters were very one dimensional.

So I thought this was going to be a YA novel, but once I got to the graphic seksi time about halfway though I realized it wasn't. What it was, though, was a very good and well thought out novel. High school teacher Lindsey Sloan's small Alabama town was rocked when three local churches were burned to the ground and the town's new detective, Jace, is trying to convince her that one her her students committed the crimes. Meanwhile, the school is having a rough time, grieving through multiple student suicides. The whole thing culminates in something horrific at the end of the novel.
This book was dark, no doubt about that, but it was also timely. One of the suicides was committed by a high schooler who had come out to his father that he was gay. When his classmates found out, they hounded him with e-mail harassments until he decided he had no other course of action but to take his own life. It's a tragedy that hits close to home for a lot of young people these days.
While the characters were a bit one-dimensional, the excitement from the plot more than made up for it. It was definitely a page-turner from the first chapter, not only because I was trying to figure out who had committed these crimes and how they were all related, but also because it was obvious Lindsey and Jace were attracted to each other. While the plot was heavy, the romance aspect of the novel helped it from getting too heavy.

Talking about Evil Geniuses? This Terrifying Novel from Gayle Wilson will bring chills and creepy vibe around you. The fact that a group of Geniuses embodied her story made it so compelling. It made my night an arson of scary thought.
This novel caught me from the beginning until the end. The story line is just incredible. the character is so obscure that gave a frustrating feeling to turn each and every page up to the very end. The edge of fear that it offer, felt like i’m on a road trip the has no end.
This novel showcase what a true thrilling & suspense book is all about. the conviction of every character to their mission is so intelligent. The ways how the evil Geniuses build the risk so high.
Just a must read novel book from an amazing author. applause for Gayle Wilson.

First time to read this author. Came across the title in my Goodreads "recommended" section and thought the plot sounded unusual and interesting. The start was not particularly spectacular (as the crime had already been committed and we only see the start of the localized investigation). However, the suspense quickly builds up. If you are a fan of Karen Rose, Kate Brady or dark romance suspense, then this will be right up your alley. While the romance is not as intensive, the suspense is definitely an all night page turner. I'm off to start of on another of her equally promising books.

Probably my favorite of all Gayle Wilson's books (and that is a long list!) She draws on her "former life" as a high school teacher of gifted students and really brings her characters to life. Fortunately, Ms. Wilson never experienced many of the things her main characters go through (at least that we know of!)

this book of Gayle's was a bit slow getting started...but when it picked up...it was as great as usual...some extra bits of fluff in this one...kept me guessing as to the culprit...by the end of the story...I was still wrong...love her books!

If you like romantic mystery, this is a good one! I didn't figure it out until the very end. Not to mention, the romantic piece was very good!

This book was okay. Not my favorite, but kept my interest. I found the plot to be fairly predictable, and had figured out the players about halfway through.

Nicely done Good balance btw romance and suspense. Great characters although the author is bit awkward writing about sex....it comes off as something a guy would write.
