There’s a new fey in town, she’s the Knight of Joy and I want to harsh all over her good vibes in the worst way. Sure, Portland could use a bit more happiness but Joy’s flavor is all the consuming kind that renders folks content to hand their souls to the Fey. Not on my turf.
Trouble is I can’t touch her. The Queen of Summer has threatened to shatter Secret’s mother and send me the pieces if lay a single claw on her Knight. Victoria and I can only track her. Good thing Cliff hasn’t joined the pack yet, his sword might be the only weapon we have against Joy but he’s only human. If he fails, then I hope Secret can forgive me someday.
Daniel Potter has always been inspired by the mysteries of the world. His early interest lead him to become avid researcher as well as gamer and writer. After obtaining his PhD in vascular biology, he began exploring fictional magic and spiritualism using his own particular scientific lense. Daniel published the webcomic Walking the Lethe from 2010-2012 and is an active member of the East Bay Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Meet-up group. His debut novel, Off Leash, is just the first in his Freelance Familiar series. When he's not chasing his imagination, Daniel works as a vascular biologist in the Bay Area. He shares an apartment with his wife, two cats, and a large collection of video games.
This book is off and running pretty much from the start. We get new enemies, new allies, and a whole Otherworld full of new problems when Winter’s princess and her knight have to go up against the wiles of the Summer court. I think what I liked best about this story is that Abby’s forced to slow down and think things through a bit more this time out. The solutions rely heavily on brains over brawn. Now, I can’t wait to discover what the gods, old and new, have up their sleeves for Abby’s next adventure.
Yeah, I am beyond obsessed with this series. I am still speechless and have no words to explain how this series has made me feel. How it has gripped its claws into me and won't go. But I'm fine and content with that because I was looking for stories and series like this. I am glad that I did. I absolutely love the characters and the plot is so gripping and a bit unpredictable. Since I am so biased now, I can overlook the grammatical errors that I came across. Fortunately, they weren't bad enough to ruin the story. I wholeheartedly look forward to reading what happens next!
Wow! What an exciting story! I loved the intertwining of fae, were, human, and deity. This was just packed full of action and entertainment. I loved the characters, Abby, Victoria, Cindy, Sophie, and Secret. Especially Secret and her little “Merf”s…those are absolutely adorable! I look forward to more adventures!
The Summer and Winter court clash in Portland. Given that it is at the Summer Solstice, the Knight of Summer (Joy) definitely has the advantage. It is up to Abby -- werewolf, devotee of Luna, and possessor of a piece of the Heart of Winter -- to preserve the balance.
Quite a good addition to the series. I look forward to the next book.
Abby, Secret and Cliff’s sister head to save Secret’s Mother. What will they run into, will they be able to save her. They also need to save Cliff from Joy!
