The first half of the book is an essay supplying the (fragmentary) details of Bosch’s biography, discussing the social and historical background of the medieval Dutch painter’s work, and commenting on his paintings. The second half of the book is color plates reproducing Bosch’s paintings. The work is surrealistic, dreamlike, grotesque, and employs exaggeration and distortion. The Garden of Earthly Delights is probably Bosch’s best-known work.
Decent information and speculations in the first half of this little book, but the print quality of the color reproductions in the second half are subpar and blurry. The three star rating has nothing to do with the artist's amazing work, but this book in particular. It's just impossible to print a successful work on Bosch in a smaller book format.
