This book is a quick read and presents some interesting facts, tips and tricks to help with being a better dog owner. For instance, did you know that dogs have 250 million smell receptors in their noses? Pretty amazing! In contrast, humans only have a paltry 5 million. And I doubt we use them all. Perhaps that is way I seldom smell dog poo before stepping into it!
Written with an upbeat attitude and light-hearted quips, this is a book that will serve every dog owner. While there are some grammar glitches along the way that need editing (it feels like the book did not go through a very detailed editing process), I came away a more informed and entertained dog owner for my reading time investment. If you have a dog and enjoy books about dogs, this little book is worth your while. It makes a great gift as well!
I received this book as a gag gift for Christmas, and it still wore the partial remains of the sticker from the Barnes & Noble bargain bin. I know it was meant to be a joke because my dog is clearly no genius, but I guess the joke’s on me, because I read the whole thing. This same dog had to be rushed to the vet after eating Christmas lights off the tree this year, and whose stomach contents not only contained lights, sockets and wiring, but also rocks and feminine hygiene products. This book taught me a few things about my dog's intelligence though. It turns out she won’t be composing the next classical symphony; however, she does have the mental capacity to produce the next great social media platform.
As you might expect from a novelty book like this, the tone and format are fairly juvenile and seem to target kids or new dog owners. It was mostly pretty dumb, which is usually how I like my reading material. I picked up a few interesting factoids, and it has some fun interactive exercises, so you can perform scientific experiments on your dog. If you're a first-time dog owner, it's probably worth searching the bargain bin for a copy.
Fun and entertaining! I like to think my mixed terrier pup is brilliant, but I'm biased. Good ideas on how to spark your dog's intelligence at any age.
