This book is 70% describing the influences of the artists, along with some of the historical context behind the pieces. All well and good, but not really what i was looking for. I was more interested in the symbolism in the art.

The other 30% was the author absolutely trash talking the artists. Like absolutely laying into them, often for seemingly no reason. He would lay into one piece and then praise another piece that, to my untrained eye, looked pretty much identical to the last one.

Don't get me wrong; I thought it was hilarious. Like damn dude! You didn't have to hit him so hard, he's been dead for a thousand years.

Anyway - the art is worth a look. I found the use of color and the frames/borders of the works themselves really inspiring.
