The inspirational thoughts contained in this book will help you see life through 'Zen eyes', freeing you from fruitless regrets, desires and anxieties - and helping you appreciate every moment of your life on earth.
This is a lovely book of Zen related quotes and definitely something to keep around when you want to read one or two lines that hit home. More than quench my thirst for Zen though, it piques my interest in reading more of the wonderful people quoted here. There is power in words and it's nice to see such a lovely collection that resonates on a deeper level. Keeping this close by and recommending it if you're into books with quotes, which is honestly the only reason I gave 4/5. I think it's a great book but it's like preferring a sampler to a full plate.
Since I purchased it on impulse one day from the bargain bin at a major bookstore, I just keep returning to this book time and again. Zen is simplicity itself which makes Maggie's small collection of quotations from students and practitioners and zen-like writers from around the world such a charm. There are many books I paid far more to own from which I've gained far, far less. In it, you'll find what I feel is indispensible wisdom from thinkers and writers both historical and contemporary. If you spend the time to internalize much of what it contains, I suspect your life will never be the same.
Small in size and comes with a bright red bookmark ribbon and inner flap for keeping your place. I find I much prefer opening to random pages for a serendipitous voice day after day.
