Read with the idea of discovering some new and offbeat sights and paths rather than the tourist attraction points of interest. I was a little disappointed in that the book focused on National parks and locations anyone planning a trip would gravitate towards. I had hoped to find out of the way places that weren’t supposed to be easily accessible. This is not that type of book. The research was good. They offered GPS directions but it was still locations anyone could have determined. The Las Vegas part of the offbeat included the Bellagio fountain, Caesar’s Palace and the Stratosphere. Wished for more.
Covering over 100 different sights to see in Nevada, this book is a very thorough guide to the “Silver State”. From rock gardens and caves to museums, parks, canyons, and observatories, as well as the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, this guide really leaves no stone unturned, so to speak. Of course, the author also covers many interesting hotels and casinos as well. I also appreciated the list of business hours, entry fees, directions and GPS co-ordinates for each site listed. A useful and interesting guide book for the State of Nevada!
This is a good list of places in Nevada to visit. After reading the one page summaries, you can go elsewhere for more information. Oddly, there are no places in Carson City, the state capital mentioned at all. The authors seemed to go out of their way to avoid mentioning Carson City. For example, stating that the tiny town of Genoa is the closest city to some places when Carson City is closer.
