Squee! A stunning, simply stunning work of fiction, absolutely blew me away. I did this great series a bit back to front in reading book two featuring Jennifer Knight first which was a fantastic read also getting a huge five stars from me, I didn't think it could get better. It could. It did. It has. This is it! Both books are incredible but I really found this to be a very special read. I was left feeling a lot like this...
Everything works for this book. The plot is taut and very well-written, it's a unique angle on the average crime novel out there on the bookshelves. Can the paranormal blend with police procedures? Of course it can if Caroline Mitchell is writing it. The unique combination of Caroline's own personal paranormal experiences which you can read in the brilliant Paranormal Intruder plus her on the ground experience in the police force means this author knows her subject matter and it's GOOD. VERY GOOD.

D.C. Jennifer Knight is a brilliant lead female character, I took to her straight away and liked so many aspects of her. I adore the banter and relationship between Jennifer and her policing partner Will, they have a fantastic dynamic going between them and it's a joy to read. The dark and evil characters are suitably creepy and horrible and there is enough violent detail in the book to keep the best crime fiction lovers happy and sated.
I loved the way the plot interweaves the past and present as it crosses timeless but does so seamlessly to give us the full up to date picture, the story is just exceptionally good and I could not stop reading this fantastic novel. The paranormal aspects of the book as they ramp up are BRILLIANT, this is no wishy-washy stuff, it's so realistically scary. It adds a whole other dimension to crime fiction and Caroline Mitchell has a winning combination going here.
I could rave on and on and on...but you get the picture right? Read it for sure, this is an exceptional debut novel from an author who writes as seasoned as it it's her 20th best selling novel, I can't wait for more in this stunning series and am a huge fan of Caroline. This gets an easy 5 stars from me without hesitation.

Many thanks to the author, Caroline Mitchell, the publisher, Bookouture and Netgalley for allowing me to read this excellent debut novel, “Don’t Turn Around”. This is a paranormal Crime Thriller,that will appeal to a wide audience. I normally read mystery suspense psychological thrillers, and do not normally gravitate to paranormal novels, but in this case the author has done an excellent job of balancing the genres.
D.C. Jennifer Knight and her partner Will Dunston are called out to deal with a routine stabbing, in the town of Haven, between a local down and out drug dealer Johnny Mallet and a retired criminal Mike Stone… a drug deal gone bad.
But more bodies are found. Are the killings linked somehow to the past? A copycat killer?
The story is told in the present time but flips back to when Jennifer's mother was in the police and helped convict the notorious Grim Reaper also known as Frank Foster. Frank Foster,the Grim Reaper is a character who is quite evil, but I felt sorry for him, because of his sad upbringing.
There are many subplots in this novel, and we follow Franks’ story from the beginning, and it all comes together. Frank blames himself for the breakup of his parent’s marriage, and thought it was his fault that his father left. Frank soon learned to look after himself.
Jennifer is a strong believable character, with her own troubled past, and is trying to move on with her life. She grew up being the main caregiver for her sister, Amy. She wakes up early in the morning as she has OCD about cleanliness and order.
This story has lots of twists and turns, as well as scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat while you turn the page. I must say that the ending was certainly a surprise.
I enjoyed this gripping novel, and can't wait for the next one.

I don't 'do' Paranormal. I simply don't read it. I don't, never. Until NOW!!!
Having not realized that Paranormal was mixed up in this I chose to read it because of the thriller aspect. The title is enticing, the reviews I have read since have been awesome, and not that I finished this book, I can see why.
I didn't see the hype on Twitter, I just post to Twister and leave, so guess I missed out there.
I am really glad I didn't know about the mention of Paranormal in this book or guess what....I would have missed a pretty awesome book!
Caroline Mitchell. You need to remember that name. Because if this is her debut novel, we sure have some great stories coming in the future from her if this is anything to go by.
I have to tell you what I thought of D.C. Jennifer Knight . I loved her! Loyal, dedicated and awesome.
I had to laugh, because, you know when you get stressed and you clean things.....you clean more vigorously with each thought, well, Jennifer was speeding up and more thorough in her cleaning the more intense the investigation got, I LOVED it.
It made her human.
Ethan and Jennifer worked so good together. The more I got to know him, the more I like him. I loved it when he had to go collect his phone from his home, so dropped in to collect it, Jennifer goes in with him and she is "perusing" his book shelf. The books that laid there, that made see him in a slightly different light.
I also liked how the author narrated the book. I sometimes get a little bored when you get the narration between the dialogue, but the author has such a good way of making it just as interesting. REALLY loved this style.
I can now see what the rave is on this book, I loved it.
I am most thankful to the author for writing this brilliant story. And to Bookouture for allowing me to read and review it via Net Galley.

5 Creepy Stars
Not much happens in Haven so when D.C. Jennifer Knight is called out to deal with a routine stabbing between a local down and out drug dealer Johnny Mallet and a well known retired criminal Mike Stone, she doesn't think anything of it except a drug deal gone bad.
But something isn't right here.
Is someone trying to send her a message from beyond the grave.
Jennifer thinks they are. Also as more bodies start to turn up, she starts to think they are mirroring murders from years ago, murders that her mother helped to convict and put away the killer...
Are the voices and whispers Jennifer hears in her mind, or something more sinister...
"Sometimes I hear the faintest whisper, like someone calling my name. Not in my head, I can actually feel their breath on my face.
But who can she trust, her partner DC Will Dunston or new boy Ethan.... come to shadow her at work for a few weeks, who is also interested in the goings on with the paranormal but is he keeping his own secret?
So to my thoughts....
I have a huge love for thrillers and the more I read the more I look for that thrill, edge of the seat feeling that keeps you gripped till the end.
I found it in this fantastic debut novel by Caroline Mitchell and I can't praise it enough.
This creepy page turner had me hooked and although an excellent thriller in its own right, the author was able to add a certain twist to the story that took me completely out of my comfort zone.
The characters worked so well together, Jennifer with her neglected childhood and her own secrets. Will her partner and their special connection.
The feeling all along is Jennifer losing it or is there something else happening.
And then there's Frank........
Can it be possible that the writer has put so much depth into this character that you can't help feeling a bit sorry for him......
An excellent thriller and as I said one with a twist in the tale....
And I will be making sure I stay away from.....

This is a police procedural with a huge paranormal element to it. If you are a purist and like your procedurals to be “real” then I would say this may not be the read for you, but if you like a bit of supernatural horror then this is one that is well worth checking out. DC Jennifer Knight has heard voices ever since she was a child and has tried to suppress them, but now they are back as she starts to investigate a string of strange and seemingly unconnected deaths in the town of Haven. The voices and her intuition tell her that something is not right and that these deaths are linked but how can she back up her suspicions? If she comes clean about her “hunches”, her colleagues will think she is having a breakdown.
Running alongside, in a series of flashbacks starting from the 1960s we meet Frank and as his story unwinds we begin to see parallels between what happened in the past and what is happening now. I don’t want to say too much about him, but oh my word, what a complex character he is, totally insane and evil, yet at the same time there is just something so charismatic about him.
I really liked the character of Jennifer – she seems to be strong and independent but when she is at home behind locked doors her compulsive cleaning makes you realise that something is not quite right. I couldn’t help but like the way she loves to dress nicely as well. I had such a clear picture of her in my mind – sharp suited with killer heels. She does have a dark history and we don’t get to hear all of it here and I am guessing more will come out in a future book. I liked the way the relationship between her and her colleague Will unfolds throughout the book, he seems to be the Scully to her Mulder and I look forward to seeing what happens in the future. I am also longing to see more of the enigmatic Ethan!
It is a very creepy, “hairs standing up on the back of your neck” read with some scenes that really send shivers down your spine. It moves at a good pace which really keeps you interested towards a climax that is satisfying and surprising at the end. I received this book of Net Galley after my Goodreads friend Sue recommended it to me.
The 1st novel in the Detective Jennifer Knight series by Caroline Mitchell.
This debut novel is a really good read and gives great promise of what's to come in subsequent books. A fast paced paranormal novel that is slightly away from my normal genre but nevertheless entertained me from start to finish.
The novel switches from present times to another case when the Detectives mother was in the police force and she convicted a criminal known as the Grim Reaper. The story is very well paced and there are lots of sub plots that add to the enjoyment and set the series up to be developed further in the future. The main character Jennifer is an interesting character and I am sure will improve as the series develops.
Overall it was an excellent first book from an author I am sure we will hear more of in the future.

This was my first endeavor into the world of Paranormal Thillers (I think) but it certainly won't be my last. Don't Turn Around is a standalone novel which is told in past and present days scenes. Caroline Mitchell intends to take readers on numerous journeys with D.C Jennifer Knight ----> "Count me in"
The Present:
Detective Constable (<---thank you google) Jennifer Knight and her partner Will Dunston **cough-cough** (I like him more so than Evan) are sent to investigate a stabbing in the sleepy town of Haven. The residents soon receive a wake up call in the form of lifeless bodies . . . . Victims which mirror those of the infamous Frank "Grim Reaper " Foster. A murderer whom Jennifer's mother played a key role in apprehending as well as convicting some 20+ years ago.
. . . . Perhaps. Perhaps not :-)
The Past:
The year is 1966 & we are introduced to Frank Foster at the tender age of eight. Frank's mother Vivian is a materialistic bitch, sorry but there's no other way to put it. Thanks to Viv's selfishness the family is facing financial hardship. Frank's father Charles, Foster informs his wife that she has one of two choices:
A) Return the items she recently purchased & stop shopping all together.
B) Sleep with his boss so he can get promoted.
. . .. Would you care to guess which option she picks?
Yup, pop the promotion champagne open. . . or not. You see, while Frank did gain a promotion, he also lost his wife. What was meant as a one time only arrangement between his wife & boss quickly becomes more. Charles cannot bare arguing with his wife any longer and leaves his family behind for a fresh start in Australia. Charles promises his son he will come back for Frank once he settled but sadly that day never comes. Through the years we witness Frank transform from a frail young child into a ruthless killer.
. . . . . So about those homicides I mentioned earlier, are they merely coincidental or is there a copycat killer causing havoc in Haven? Only one way to find out. Read the book !

D.C. Jennifer Knight starts to notice that a couple of deaths around the town Haven are similar to ones that her mother investigated twenty years before. But the killer, Grim Reaper, is dead. Is there a copycat out there or is the Grim Reaper back from the dead?
I liked the paranormal part of this crime novel. I wasn't expecting that, mostly because I started to read the book without checking what it was about. More fun that way. The story is told both in present time, with Jennifer investigating the recent deaths, and in the past when we got to follow the killer during his killing period and see how Jennifer's mother caught him.
It was an OK first book. No more no less. I liked it because it had a paranormal aspect to it, without that, if it just had been an ordinary crime novel wouldn't it had been that interesting to read, mostly because I just didn't find the characters that memorable. Jennifer Knight was just not a character that I felt so strong for neither did I, especially like her colleagues. If this had been an ordinary crime novel am I not sure I would have read more, but I liked the ending that was interesting enough that I would read the next book just to see if Jennifer will grow on me and if the direction this series seems to take will interest me.

I liked the paranormal part of this crime novel. I wasn't expecting that, mostly because I started to read the book without checking what it was about. More fun that way. The story is told both in present time, with Jennifer investigating the recent deaths, and in the past when we got to follow the killer during his killing period and see how Jennifer's mother caught him.
It was an OK first book. No more no less. I liked it because it had a paranormal aspect to it, without that, if it just had been an ordinary crime novel wouldn't it had been that interesting to read, mostly because I just didn't find the characters that memorable. Jennifer Knight was just not a character that I felt so strong for neither did I, especially like her colleagues. This is a paranormal crime book,I'm not keen on paranormal elements in books, but this one blends into the storyline.Ive read a few books from Caroline Mitchell and enjoy her books.This book is the first book to a new series.DC Jennifer Knight and her partner Will make a great team and have a great connection.This book goes back to the past to her mother a cop on a case who catches a serial killer called the grim reaper,his name is Frank Foster he had a bad upbringing and becomes a killer.now to the present theres a copycat killer but WHY? A great read from a great author.

What she discovers is more frightening than she could possibly imagine. The story is told from a dual points of view which adds more mystery and excitement to read more,It was interesting to read the villain’s POV, I enjoyed this book . It was well written, dark and creepy with a gripping plot and very strong characters.

Absolutely love Jennifer Knight & found when a character used the word 'praeternatural' I wanted to squeal with delight. Need a little time to compose my thoughts to write an adequate review but clearly a marvellous new series for imaginative & spiritually conscious readers.

Don’t Turn Around is an excellent thriller of the crime and paranormal kind.
Initially, I was a little cautious about the paranormal aspect of this novel, but as I kept seeing it get such good reviews, I decided to give it a chance, and I’m so pleased I did. If any of you are tempted to stay away from this, due to the paranormal aspect, please don’t. If you normally enjoy police crime thrillers, then I’m sure you will enjoy this too. The paranormal aspect works well within this story, and in no way takes away from a very good crime thriller.
In my eyes, there are two main characters, D.C. Jennifer Knight, who is a very likeable character with OCD tendencies and a lot on her mind, and Frank, who is a somewhat dark and disturbed character. The way these characters develop throughout the story is very interesting. Frank fascinated me from the first mention of him. I feel like I’ve grown up with him, experiencing his early years, and understanding how it shaped his future character.
I loved the way the story regularly shifted into the past. It was cleverly done, not confusing at all, and kept my intrigue all the way to the end. Talking of the end, oh my goodness, I never saw that coming!
This is the first in a series, but this instalment has a satisfying ending, making it feel like a stand-alone story, while also feeding my need for more. I loved the way the days of tension during reading this book, were lifted by the end, and I’m now left with the desire to read the next book in the series. I can’t wait to find out what the future has in store for some of the characters in this novel.

Read this one in a day - it is highly addictive and written in such a way as to really get you turning the pages, a great crime fiction novel with a beautiful little Supernatural twist.
Terrific main protagonist as well in DC Jennifer Knight - she is really well drawn, enigmatic in her own way, obsessive compulsive with a touch of humour about her that really brings the character to life.
Wonderfully atmospheric throughout, this is a really terrific first novel, one that definitely makes you want to read the next in the series. A pitch perfect ending just puts the cherry on the top of the cake!

DC Jennifer Wright is investigating a stabbing murder. Jennifer is psychic .. a fact that no one on her team knows, not even her very best friend and police partner, Will.
More bodies are found ... there are hangings spontaneous combustion, things that just haven't been seen in her town before. Foul play .. but maybe not of the human variety.
She can't help but feel that all these killings are connected ..and worse, they are connected to her and her past. She's hearing voices ... are they warning her of the danger she faces ... or is she really a psycho instead of a psychic? And how is she going to stop something that has one foot in this world ...and one foot in the other?
I seldom real paranormal, but somehow this is the second one I've picked up this past week. This one is the first of a 3-book series. And yes ... I'm starting Time To Die (2nd in the series) sometime today.
I liked the characters. Jennifer comes across as hesitating to accept her 'gift'. Afraid to tell her partner, not knowing who she can trust, she feels all alone in this battle. I liked the back story, although I would have liked to learn more about Jennifer when she first discovered what she could do. Her mother was also in law enforcement and she's always felt her mother was emotionally distant before she died.
Will, her partner, and Jennifer have been friends since they were kids. He thinks Jennifer's gut feelings are the things that help her solve a case. She loves him like a brother ..and he's settled for that ...for the moment.
There is a new DC brought in ...Ethan .... who is secretive and not seen or heard through much of the book .. plays a big part in Jennifer's life.
She has a younger sister .. they are working on their relationship ..and a nephew, Josh, who also has the 'gift', but everyone seems to not see this. I hope we see more of him in the future.
Although well written, there were moments I really had to stop and think about what I was reading. As I said, this is not my preferred genre, but an enjoyable read, nonetheless.

I absolutely adored this amazing debut. From the first line it had me hooked. I managed to claw myself away to do chores but I was thinking about the story the whole time, wanting to get back to it. DC Knight is a wonderful protagonist, a strong woman battling scars of an unhappy childhood, guilt at hating her father’s neglect and abuse, and the psychic abilities because of which she has been pushed back at work. The author does a brilliant job of bringing each character alive for us, even the reviled Grim Reaper. I especially loved Will and little Josh. I thought the ending was just perfect. I am so glad there are more books in this series as I am looking forward to reading more of Jennifer Knight and her adventures.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an open and honest review...so here it is!
In her acknowledgements the author, Caroline Mitchell, asks her readers to "suspend your beliefs and open your mind as you prepare for the journey" and this is exactly what I did!
When I started the book and got to the half way point my feelings were very much along the lines of a 3.5/5. It was a good story but I did not get the fear factor that so many others were raving about in their reviews. The last few chapters changed all that as I was glued to my kindle with curiosity as to what would happen to D.C Jennifer Knight! Although the fear factor was not there (and to be fair, it takes a hell of a lot to scare me) the shock factor certainly found its place in my veins!
I loved the characters in this book. Jennifer is emotionally-damaged from childhood events which are revealed cleverly throughout each chapter. She is strong-willed yet vulnerable and you find yourself warming to her very quickly.
I also loved her partner, Will. It is clear from the start that he has strong feelings for Jennifer and is very protective. You immediately start to wonder if this will be a love interest and how that will affect their relationship. No spoilers though, you will have to read the book to find that out for yourself.
Oh and I cannot forget the Baddie in the book! Aptly named The Grim Reaper for he does exactly that! He is the personifcation of death and mercilessly snuffs out the lives of those he feels deserves to die. Jennifer certainly has her work cut out for her.
I found the book had a lot about relationships- family, work, friends. This added to my enjoyment of the book as so much was revealed in tiny snippets throughout. What I mean is, you are not bombarded with characters backgrounds...they are revealed on a "need-to-know" basis and this worked well.
I particularly enjoyed the mix of police procedural, thriller and paranormal in this book. There were a few unexpected twists and turns and this kept me on my toes. In fact, I had thought I had figured out the main twist and then BOOM the author caught me off guard...I was in shock!
I definitely recommend grabbing this book and I look forward to the next in the D.C. Jennifer Knight series. In the meantime, I have picked up a copy of Paranormal Intruders by Caroline and will read that while I wait.

I’m usually a straightforward crime novel kind of girl, so this was a break from the norm for me, with it being a supernatural crime novel.
Jennifer is a hard-working DC on a CID team in a small town. She has a slight OCD cleaning/tidying issue going on and in the past the organisation has put her through mental health services for help and support. Her DI on the team is well aware of all of this. So when a couple of deaths start to feel weird to Jennifer and she speaks out, she doesn’t get the help she wants. But Jennifer doesn’t have mental health issues, she can actually engage with otherworldly beings. And they’re not exactly of the friendly variety either. As you can imagine being a crime novel!
Having read Caroline’s previous true life book Paranormal Intruder, reviewed Here, I could definitely see where the inspiration for this book had come from. Paranormal Intruder is the true life experience of Caroline’s life, of her home and her life having been violently intruded on by something unseen. You also know you have to take it seriously when Caroline is a serving police officer and some of her colleagues were willing to be named to back her up for that book.
So back to Don’t Turn Around, the police procedure was as you’d expect, absolutely spot on but not a massive priority for the book, to be honest, it was Jennifer and how she was dealing with what she was hearing and feeling and where she went from there.
The paranormal experiences were offset by a great working partnership with her colleague who was the complete opposite as her in the tidy stakes!
This is the first novel in a series from Caroline Mitchell.
If you fancy trying something different, a crime novel with an edge, this certainly fits that bill. You need to suspend your disbelief while reading though.

If you’re looking for a brand spanking new crime wave-breaker, then look no further than the obsessive-compulsive Detective Constable Jennifer Knight – a determined wearer of killer heels with an intuition like no other on the force.
Guesswork will only get you so far with this one; I didn’t foresee the destination until I’d arrived. It has a brilliant ending that couldn’t have been better if it had been wrapped up with a bow – I would go as far as to say it’s a TV series just waiting to be made.
With the promise of more books by Caroline Mitchell in the pipeline, I’m looking forward to see just where DC Jennifer Knight’s journey will take us next.

This is the first book I've read by this author and got to say I cannot wait to read more. I really enjoyed this book as I am a big fan of crime thrillers but I loved the fact that this book is a crime thriller with paranormal mixed in. What excites me even more is that this is the first of hopefully many more books following D.C Jennifer Knight and her side kick Will. I think the author did a great job with the storyline and the background of Jennifer and how it all connects to the recent sudden deaths that have started taking place. Can't wait for the next book.

'Don't Turn Around' is a police procedural with a very strong supernatural element. These two aspects are blended and balanced beautifully throughout the book. By supernatural element I do not mean ghosts ... but a far, far worse entity.
To tell the truth, I was rather doubtful about this book; I thought I would not like it. I usually tend to stir away from reads involving the supernatural and the occult but since this book included a serial killer in the mix, I was curious.
All characters are vividly brought to life with realistic dialogue. I especially loved the lead character, DC Jennifer Knight. She’s a likeable, strong, determined police officer with unwanted psychic abilities and a serious cleaning OCD.

A spate of suspicious deaths takes place in the small town of Haven. The victims are found dead in the same circumstances as those murdered by the notorious Grim Reaper many years before. But how could this be? The Grim Reaper was imprisoned in the 1990s by Jennifer’s mother, PS Elizabeth Knight. Is there a copy-cat killer at large? Or is there something far more sinister at play? A dark energy begins to tap into Jennifer's senses, and a cloak of foreboding begins to consume her. Is her sixth sense trying to tell her something?
Through her debut thriller, Caroline Mitchell took me on a dark, hair-raising ride spanning decades and involving some terrifying elements such as embodiments, dissociated voices, hauntings, murders and more. This book reminded me of the film 'The Exorcist'. Half-way through, I was completely absorbed and I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the heart-stopping ending.
Today I can say … I'm glad I've read this book because it is excellent and now I'm already longing to go back to Haven on another investigation alongside Jennifer Knight. Well done Caroline!!

Wednesday 25th March was Caroline's big cover reveal and I was so looking forward to it. Don't Turn Around is a paranormal Crime Thriller, two of my favourite genres and after seeing the amazing cover I was most looking forward to it's release on April 24th.. Twitter was buzzing with excitement over the cover reveal then Bookouture tweeted that it was available on NetGalley and I immediately went and requested and was so happy to be approved and started reading it straight away. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture.
Don't Turn Around is the first book in the Detective Jennifer Knight series and what a thrilling read it is.
The story is told through the present time but also flips back to when Jennifer's mother Elizabeth was in the police and helped convict the notorious Grim Reaper also known as Frank Foster. Franks story is also told and the story all comes together nicely if not terrifyingly.
Jennifer is a great character, she's had her troubles in the past and not had a great childhood but is trying to get things back on track and is trying to prove that the past is in the past where work is concerned. I loved the connection Jennifer and her police partner Will have and look forward to seeing their friendship progress in future stories.
Frank Foster the Grim Reaper is a character who is quite vile but in a way you can't help feeling sorry for him.
This is a fantastically written story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and I really didn't want to put it down and was gutted when it ended but what an ending it was and one I didn't see coming at all.
I've really struggled to write a review for this book as it's just so fantastic and I don't want to give away any spoilers to anyone reading this review, I want them to be able to pick up the book and enjoy the terrifying thrills I enjoyed through this book.
The only problem I have now is, I can't bloody wait for the next book x

After the big cover reveal on Twitter of this book and what turned into a mad crazy twitter party, lol. I managed to get a copy via Netgalley, I was really happy and looking forward to reading something new, from a new author.

I think Caroline has done a great job in writing this book. It’s a book that really made me think. I’m a believer in the paranormal, and regularly have readings. But I couldn't decide if I liked the idea of it being such a big part in the crimes. Maybe not liking is the wrong description. I struggled getting my head around a lot of it. Not in a bad way, I must say.
DC Knight is, a strong character and she is battling scars of what I can only describe as a very unhappy childhood, and a serious case off OCD. I think the story of this helps us to understand her more, and her psychic abilities Which not everyone believes in. Some see her as someone who could be suffering some sort of mental breakdown.
Investigating crimes that Jennifer is convinced are linked, and linked to the past. Crimes in which her own mother, helped to solve. Is she right, or is she seeing too much into it, and trying to make connections that are not there.
One thing that must be hard for author’s now is standing out from the crowd. But I think Caroline has done it with this book. It really is well written and put together.
And it has an ending that was just, well a shock. I didn't see what was coming. i guess it is left so the life and career of Jennifer can only grow, which I think would make a very interesting book 2.
I have tried my best to do this review without giving too much away, and it's left me feeling I haven't said enough. But i don't like spoiling things for those who have not read the book yet.
So give it a go, i think you will like it.

Caroline Mitchell brings us paranormal policing at its very best in Don’t Turn Around. Detective Constable Jennifer Knight down at Haven CID is gifted with certain psychic abilities that haunt and assist her in various measures. We meet Grim, who’s not the happiest of chaps; in fact he’s quite evil. If you like your crime books dark, creepy, engaging and with a touch of the supernatural then this is for you.
We begin when Jennifer and her partner Will are asked to look into a local stabbing. It all seems innocuous enough, but things soon hot up as a spate of deaths and some rather strange and chilling occurrences begin to trouble Jennifer. Frank enters the story with his difficult childhood and dark memories of his parents and their acquaintances. Frank to be honest soon gets to be a bit of a worry!
Jennifer is a likeable and attractive character, but she begins to hear voices again in her head. These voices are sinister and threatening and she soon links the recent local deaths to maybe something more frighteningly personal. There is clearly a bond between Jennifer and her work partner Will, but the arrival of young Ethan in the office unsettles them all when Jennifer is cautiously attracted to him.
The book is page-turner and the story builds to a climatic finale as Jennifer and the team battle the criminals and the supernatural. All in all I found this a thoroughly entertaining and recommendable read that took me to some creepy places. It ends leaving plenty of scope for the next book in the series, which I definitely look forward to reading.

Don't Turn Around is exactly as it describes itself - a supernatural thriller. It's certainly not run-of-the mill. The book is creepy, intriguing and an enjoyable read.
The story focuses on DC Jennifer Knight and her mother Elizabeth, who was also in the police force. A series of murders in the present day bear a startling resemblance to a series of killings in the past, and Jennifer is convinced that there is a link between the two.
Jennifer is a great character, trying to keep herself together as she becomes plagued by voices from beyond the grave. She has a special connection with her partner Will, and there's good banter between them, which brings some humour into the story.
The book flows well, with powerful descriptive language, and builds up to a terrifying conclusion. I love how the link between the past and the present grows more obvious as the book progresses but still keeps you guessing until the end.
Without giving away any spoilers, the ending of the book sets itself up very well as the start of a series, so I look forward to seeing how the characters and stories develop over time.

I didn't realise that this had a paranormal element to it, and at first was a bit flummoxed what was going on until it became apparent that there was that underlying thread running through it. I must admit I was reticent to carry on, as this is not the kind of trope I read, but I persevered and was glad I did. I have downloaded the second book in the series and am currently reading now.
It was a little creepy in parts, but I had to listen at every opportunity. The narrator did a great job and as said above, I will definitely be continuing with this spooky crime thriller series.

a book that has everything
a wonderful story that deals with occult and mystic abilities.
Jennifer the main character is a medium that can hear voices of those who have passed on. it is a difficult gift to handle and one that has caused her difficulty in her work.
a great look at mystic abilities and how they can control your life.
the book was amazing with a character you could truly care about.
I love the writing style and you can tell research was done going into mysticism

An enjoyable crime thriller with a difference. I haven't read many books with a paranormal or supernatural element before and wasn't sure if I would like it. I did! Great characters and I loved the relationship between the 2 main police detectives. Looking forward to reading the next 2 in this series.
