What an amazing book! I had a pain in my stomach the whole time I was reading it because everything that was described in that book was so real. It's a book that can be easily read and understood without difficult theories and analysis. The author uses examples from interviewed women in order to explain certain definitions/situations and this makes the book so helpful and real. Moreover, the examples from other people's experiences give you the possibility to understand if you are going through something similar. I loved the fact that it also provides solutions to the problems. It helps you identify an abusive relationship, giving also ways to overcome it and handle difficult situations for yourself and for the kids. The most important message that I think the book provides is that we need to take care of ourselves and put ourselves first. It's an incredible book that can make a real impact!

An eye opening read

The author has given a raw and honest account of what an abusive relationship is. Douglas takes the reader into the real lives of women who have walked this journey and been prepared to share their story to help others. It is confronting, providing invaluable insight into these relationships. A must read for women trapped in domestic violence, families and friends who desire to offer their support and for anyone who wants to learn more. Practical advice and solutions are offered to provide healing and hope, as well as where to reach out for help. It is rare to find such a resource and therefore it is well worth the read.

Any woman in an abusive relationship should read this

A powerful and encouraging book. I experienced abuse in my previous marriage and I could relate to so many of the stories in this book. This book is more than just stories though. It outlines the different ways abuse can present in a relationship and then gives clear and good advice on how to deal with it and how to leave if you want to. It’s not easy to leave an abusive partner. It took me years. The author outlines all the pros and cons and helps the reader to find the best way to recover her life and recover from the abuse.
An excellent resource. A must read.
