Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. Fun. It takes place in the Montague & Strong Universe. In fact these characters are a lot like Montague & Strong, but not as competent or as powerful. They aren't farces of M&S and not quite slapstick but they are definitely on the humorous side of the destruction possible with M&S. It made me smile.
This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 1 of 1.
Bangers and Mash are investigators in a fantasy futuristic world 🌎. The story is interesting with a number of will developed characters lots of action, misdirection, and violence leading to the conclusion.
I would recommend this series and author to readers of fantasy novels. 2024 😎😮😆😃
Decent effort. Normally I Love Orlando Sanchez’ work, but this one was a weaker effort that I just didn’t get as much into as I did his other series. This is set in the Montague and Strong world, something that didn’t work in their favor here. The writing felt more stilted and forced. Overall, decent effort but ehh
Only someone really talented can bring together the surreal violence and threats of the Montague and Strong world and fill it with constant comic relief! The joy of reading an adventure of Frank and Grey is heightened by the dynamic of Bangers and Mash, creating a perfect, hilarious read. Not to miss!
Another short story set in the M & S universe which features Bangers and Mash, sort of a Monty & Strong light (very light). This new pair see themselves as protectors of the city from magic and the unnatural. Bangers is the incompetent mage who doesn't lack for confidence, only ability and skill. Mash is the one who tries to keep it real. A more slapstick underpowered version of M & S.
Robert managed to annoy me as much as he made me laugh, great parody of Monty and Simon, pity they didn’t have their own version of Peaches . Wonderful read, thumbs up
Need a laugh? Meet Bangers and Mash! No! Not the English meal (although I just realized why I bought sausage when I went shopping earlier.) Meet Robert Bangers and Steven Mash, Paranormal Investigators of the Arcane. Nice guys, but how they stay alive while bumbling their way through some very dangerous situations is beyond me. And sometimes it isn’t just the bad guys who want to do them in. Just ask Cecil! They sort of remind me of the Ghostfacers from Supernatural. Bangers and Mash mean well but sometimes that is not enough. It is a good thing that Grey and Frank are there. This is a funny story and I am looking forward to book 2.
Bangers and Mash was an interesting story set in the M&S universe. This new duo serves to portray almost a funhouse mirror version of Monty & Strong, playing the "What if..." game. Overconfident, often incompetent, and convinced they are true professionals, they stumble onto a plot way outside their skill grade. Encountering some powerful cameos, they might trip into foiling the plot while surviving the aftermath.
“Bangers & Mash: Paranormal Investigators of the Arcane” is a completely over the top read - more like Scooby Doo than Harry Dresden. Mage Robert Bangers and his completely normal friend Steven Mash are individually incompetent, as a duo they are a walking catastrophe. “They certainly seem like candidates for Darwin Awards - at least tall, bald, and dense does. Can’t say much for his associate” - Frank glanced at me - “but you know the saying: show me who your friends are…” “Rough around the edges?” Frank asked. “Is that what we’re calling suicidally incompetent these days? Good to know.” “You’ve got guts,” Frank said. “I’ll give you that. Suicidal as all hell, but you’ve got guts. I’ll make sure to say a proper eulogy at your burials. I’ll even use some nice words.” Luckily, or maybe not, they've got the help of “a dark mage ... bonded to a bloodthirsty sword containing an insane goddess bent on destruction and obliteration.” And a lippy magical lizard called Frank. You know the story from the get go - powerful evil forces aim to destroy the unnamed city, only heroes or fools would dare to stand in the way … enter Bangers and Mash! 3.5 Stars, brought back to 3 Stars.
Meet Bangers and Mash, no, not an English meal, the newest Paranormal Investigators in the Montague and Strong world. Here we have Robert Banger, the prototypical arrogant mage, who has vastly overrated his abilities but is fortunately paired with Steven Mash, an ex-military computer expert and the voice of reason for the duo. We leap immediately into action at the start of the book with the two of them facing off against a powerful ogre. Fortunately the tense situation attracts the attention of Grey, the last Night Warden. Grey 'assists' Bangers (we had it under control) and Mash (we should run away and live to fight another day) to extricated themselves from the ogre threat. This story has all the snarky dialogue and tense, fast-paced action of the Montague and Strong books. You'll want to slap Robert, root for Steven, and cheer the inclusion of Grey and Frank in this story. Here's hoping for a long series!
Thank goodness Stryder & Frank were there to carry the story.
This book is an unexpected boon for me, but not because of the inept nutters from “The Golem.” Yes, I do enjoy the LOL moments in M&S, but I’m not a fan of comic or slapstick, so I’m glad Grey Stryder & Frank the tiny dragon were there to assist and instruct Bangers & Mash.
I was also pleased to see Byako—former kōhai of Director Nakatomi—attending a scene of destruction whilst “representing the Director of the entire Dark Council in this matter.” Of course, she would call the inept duo “Banjo and Hash.”
Eye-catching cover art by Deranged Doctor Design, but Simon described Robert Bangers as “Tall and Bald” and Steven Mash as “significantly shorter” with “an ex-military look.”
Bangers and Mash...mmmm...the title makes me hungry. I enjoyed a lot of this book. It has good action and mostly good characters. I did feel like I was missing something throughout, though. I needed some backstory for context so I could focus on other aspects of the book. One of the main characters is a pain. I mean, please shut up before I tear my eyeballs out, pain. I wanted to smack him almost every time he opened his mouth. The hint of enlightenment towards the end will have me reading the next book; otherwise, I would have to forego it in the interest of saving that amount of time in my life. hahaha The rest of the characters were interesting and well placed and made me want to be right there with them, helping. I look forward to more from this author.
In this book, we take a trip into the Montague & Strong world. We get to tag along with a couple of newer investigators of the arcane, the duo of Robert Bangers and Steven Mash. Their newest case may be the end for this duo if not for the help of Grey Stryder and Frank. Someone or group is enhancing Orges to let loose on the city, to stop this from happening these four will have to work together. I enjoyed this book and all the easter eggs slipped in. Oh, by the way, give Robert a chance he makes for a fun read!
Bangers and Mash are a mirror image of Montague and Strong. That is if you are prepared to cover your mouth as you giggle at their shenanigans. They are investigators extraordinar and are as innocent as newborn babes in their battle against monsters and evil magic. Thank goodness Grey and Frank take pity on them and keep them safe from the quest to right wrong and get themselves killed. An excellent beginning to a new series and new characters that will catch hold of us as Monty and Strong did and not let us go. Highly recommended reading.
I cannot begin to tell you how much fun this was to read, being a LONG TIME avid Gamier (We are talking pencils and dice gaming) this reminds me of a introduction to gaming session (If you are an old school gamer) this is the feeling that the beginning of a heroic tale is upon you, so I am truly looking forward to seeing where these characters grow and interact with the World of Montague and Strong (and all of the other intricate little plots and storylines that they will sneak into and try to take over. Bravo Zulu
Set in the Montague and Strong Universe, this is a bit more light-hearted, though just as perilous an adventure as the destructive duo usually deal with. Bangers and Mash seem to have a habit of taking on more than they can chew, they’ve had cameo appearance in earlier books, but this time they have the starring role with a lot a bit of help from Grey and Frank, who fans of Orlando’s books will know from the Night Warden series. I seriously wanted to give Robert a good shake; how he gets to survive a single day in the paranormal world is beyond me, but it was a fun read.
The anti Montague and Strong. Who knew Grey the Night Warden had a soft spot. Well meaning and pompous ass. All in one package that is Robert. Fast paced and draws in the streets of NY and all the supernatural creatures that live work and try to takeover. Fun story that brings in new characters and visits some of the regular ones we see in the M&S world. And heck we get to see Grey and Frank in action
This is an interesting look at the M&S universe. I would say that the lead characters are Monty and Strong, if Monty and Strong were in an alternative universe and had the exact opposite personalities and sets of skills as they do in our universe.
Grey and Frank make an appearance, to mentor or heroes. Then, pandemonium ensues.
I highly recommend this book for M&S readers and applaud Orlando Sanchez for another amazing book. I don’t know how he does it!
Maybe a start to a new relationship to this author
When I first started reading this book and was introduced to the character Robert, I thought this author is an idiot. Then I realized that if he could make me dislike a character so much with so few sentences then maybe I should keep on reading. By the time I realized this was a parody (comedy) I was hooked enough to read some more by this author.
Bangers & Mash are stepping their way back into paranormal investigations and end up over their heads! Will they be able to battle the forces they are up against? They stumble their way along with humor and belligerence and take the readers along for quite the ride! Ogres and inter agencies and other helpful talents abound in this wild tome by Orlando Sanchez!
Just kidding! It's truly a testament to the author's skill that he makes the characters come to life in a way that you have real feelings for them, even if those feelings are strong dislike lol. This is a nice portrayal into the m&s world and puts a lot into perspective
Oh boy, these guys are definitely dangerous...to themselves. Love the introduction to another element in the M&S world. The addition of Grey & Frank was excellent because someone had to help & I don't see one of the 10 stepping in. There's definitely room for these guys to grow but the question is can they last while doing that. Only time will tell.
You've heard of Montague & Strong, the deluxe detective agency that has saved New York (& the world) on numerous occasions? Well, this isn't them...
Bumbling newbies in a lethal encounter (and that's just meeting their allies). Will the intrepid duo survive to face the real danger? Will the reader laugh themselves into a coronary before finishing the book?
I'll admit, this was more fun as a fan of earlier books by Orlando Sanchez and as someone who's read about the Destructive Duo (or Trio, if you include Peaches), and Frank, and a certain Dark Mage Night Warden. No spoilers here, so I'll just say I'm looking forward to the next "BAM" story!
Bangers and Mash is a great comedic visit to the M & S world. It kind of lets you see what Monty & Simon would be like if they didn’t have a clue what they were doing. But even though you’re laughing at their antics, Robert Bangers and Steven Mash do have the heart of heroes. On top of that you also get Grey and Frank. What more could you need.
An OK read, but it didn’t tickle my funny-bone. Humour is such a personal thing and to me Robert was more irritating than funny. It was interesting to see another side to the Night Warden and Frank but I would not want to read more of Bangers & Mash.
This was a great short story. Bangers and Mash, what a team. They have less than a third of the power of M&S, but the same bravado, courage and a little bit of stupidity mixed in. They are “patroling” the streets to keep us safe. They get a little help from a familiar character and the rest is in the story. Enjoy
This is a fun read. I love the humor in the M&S universe, and this is just as good as the other books. Robert and Steven mean just as well as any of Mr. Sanchez’ other heros, they’re just a bit underpowered… I’m going to buy this. And anymore in this series that come out. It will be interesting to see Robert stop faking it and start making it.
Lovely read. Always enjoy Frank reading his Dragon self and working wonders. Waiting for more Peaches, but know there are only so many hours in the day and say to many words and stories to produce. Some have to wait there turn. Please keep them coming.
