Wife and mother of four, my days have been reduced to begging for the littlest to sleep so I can have time to write my books. I'm blaming my reduced schedule on Cupcake. Facebook is the best place to find me, or you can sign up for my newsletter here (https://leannryans.com) to keep up with current and upcoming projects as well as special promotions and such.
I grew up on Sci-fi and Fantasy books with some of my favorite authors being Anne McCaffery and Mercedes Lackey. In 2013 I discovered paranormal romance and delved into a whole new world. After reading Omegaverse stories from Addison Cain and Nora Ash, I had the idea for The Omega Prize and decided to take a shot at writing a book of my own. The beginning was rough, it took two months to write the first five chapters, but as my 2019 New Year’s resolution I said I was going to finish the story and committed to writing every day. It didn't take long for the book to begin telling itself, and from there I just kept going.
Most of my books are Omegaverse, but they span other genres like Sci-Fi, dystopian, and historical barbarians. There is even a small-town Enemies to Lovers Romance story in there. They main contain dark elements but I wouldn't call them dark romance since my alphas tend to be a little mushy in the center. I promise there's always a HEA.
This was exactly as the author describes it. Dark with a lot of smut 🖤.
The story starts out really awful for Cara, and I think would have been improved with a bit more backstory … why were the alphas so desperate for an omega, and for her to go into heat? Sex obviously, but a bitter of inner thoughts from each of them might have been good.
RATING: 2 / 5 ⭐ GENRE: Omegaverse, Dark Romance, Erotica TYPE: Standalone (this version includes #1 & #2 in the Alphas' Captive) CLIFFHANGER: No. MAIN CHARACTERS: Cara, Grady, Charles, Wesley & Paxton POV: 1 POV SPICE: 3 / 5 🔥 INCLUDES: Captivity, Neglect, Non/dub-con Will I re-read it? Maybe!
So, this was a pretty dark read with a lot of mistreatment and neglect. It didn't have a lot of character development (lacked a lot of background) or world building and it was mainly focused on steamy scenes (it was pretty much all the time). The group of Alphas' didn't see her as a human being and couldn't understand why she didn't get into heat (lack of food and water and neglect was apparently not on their mind). It seemed like they only started to cherish her when they could mark her as a mate. Unfortunately, the "cherished mate" part didn't work for me because the depth was lacking in the characters and the relations and hence, the HEA was not a HEA for me.
I don't typically start my reviews with trigger warnings, but this is definitely an "After Dark" dark romance with the female or omega being sold to 4 rough alphas who hold her captive and roughly use her body to try to force her into a heat. It is obvious that she knows nothing about her designation, but equally obvious that the alphas know nothing about omegas and how they should treat them. So non-consent, dub con, forced proximity, held hostage, human (wolf shifter) trafficking and rough treatment are all warnings. That said, it is definitely full on smutty and full of spice that ends with a happily ever after. The plot was actually quite interesting and I would definitely read more from this author. This is a short story and I think the author could garner a bigger connection to the characters if they went a bit further into character development, but that could also just be me wanting more story to read. Overall it was entertaining and I am intrigued by the synopsis of the next book in the series so I will be reading more from this author.
I read the updated version of ‘The Alpha’s Captive’, which the is the audible version. I really liked the book. I like the audible version—the voice actor reads too matter-of-fact for such an emotionally heavy read. I love the storyline—I hope readers take in the dystopian, desperate times, require desperate measures to protect what’s yours when reading this compelling book.

This was an interesting aspect involving an Omega who had very minimal knowledge about a/b/o. Her mother sold her off to a pack of alpha's, whom warm once she becomes their Omega. The story is quick, filled with a range of steam, has a decent story, and the character's are interesting. I can't say that I favor this as much as I had with other omegaverse, but I certainly could see myself reading it again.
The Alpha's Captive is an interesting story, but be warned, it is as smutty as they come! Sold to a quartet of alphas by her mother, Cara is used mercilessly by them while they try to drive her to come into heat. It is only when one hurts her too much that they change tack and begin to look after her. Rough sex leading to an exciting chase and a HEA.
The story was okay but woshed there was more of a back story then just all sex. Great concept and could have been a longer book if more details were involved. I would love to see this story as a redo and have some previous chapter of the era and whats going on to better understand the situation if falls right into.
Guaranteed to be the yummiest story of the taking of an Omega 😋. Lots of action, intense emotions, incredible fighting, tons of sexy times and fantastic characters 😃. Thanks again Leeann, I always Love to read your stories and am always looking for a new one 🤓.
I found this book after reading her short story. The book meets the author's goal of not being as dark as some of the other omegaverse books. I would have liked to see more relationship development after they mated it to her in the story. I still enjoyed the book overall.
Plot: 2/5 • Smut: 5/5 —————-> Omegaverse meets stockholm syndrome. Lots of smut, very little plot. Not all of it warm and sweet, bc like I said, stockholm syndrome.
I remembered reading this book a few years ago so when I saw that the author had an audiobook for it, I jumped at the chance to listen to it and enjoy the book all over again. Her OV books are on the lighter side but this one is kind of darker than her usual books which was a nice change. Still, if you understand the OV genre, the book lines up to the Alpha-Omega dynamics.
Narrator - Kara Hayden did a really good job narrating the characters. She was able to portray the different Alphas showcasing their uniqueness, especially "Pine" and his alpha-holehess. She also was able to showcase the complex emotions our heroine goes through throughout the book, from lost, to confusion, to hopefulness.
Definitely give this audiobook a try. I mean, I may be biased since I really like this book in general, but it's been a while so being able to listen to it (listened to it twice in a roll, LOL) without having to pull the book out to read it is great!
