Bastard volume 4 managed to capture the visceral and sweeping fear and tension that make this series so notable. Possibly my favorite set of episodes in the webtoon (depending on how the last set of episodes at the webtoon's finale plays out) Carnby Kim's captivating story-telling is so unique and memorable. Bastard focuses on the human condition, the decisions we make in life, trauma, abuse, murder, and morality. I loved the exploration throughout this story, one that focuses on the relationship between Jin and his father, Dongsoo Seon.
This is a story cinematic in scale, something so gripping and breath-taking, yet many of the events that transpire are only known by the readers and protagonist. Dongsoo Seon is one of the greatest manipulators I have ever seen. I am a man who feeds upon others weaknesses, who preys upon their guilt and darkness, and who so masterfully twists their perspective. Some of the best manipulators are the ones in plain sight, whose actions change how others view him. Dongsoo is horrifyingly brilliant, turning people against each other, making them question their own sense of reality, and making the truth seem like lies and lies like the truth.
Then the reader sees how his words deteriorate the minds of many. Jin is a person whose journey seems to make an incision in my pain and helps me understand the moral conflict he goes through. Save the girl he loves at the cost of another life. The way his father controls him is by putting him in situations where many things are on the line, threatening him, forcing his every-day life to be feared with fear. But that's not all there is in his life. Kyun is the light, the sun that illuminated a second chance. What will be the hardest step of this journey is to forgive himself.

Then there was Manny, whose arc in these episodes was done so beautifully. He lost everything that once mattered to him, inside he has been reduced to a battered and bleeding boy screaming at the world. Outside, he is vengeful, angry, and afraid. Dongsoo capitalizes upon his state, and there were just several scenes that were 10/10. It shows how quickly he could manipulate a person and how deeply his words cut. Suddenly, Manny's internal pain is forced into an external reaction, a point at which his emotions scream to be let out. The words that left his mouth, the shaking in his body, the expression on his face, and the trauma flashing through his eyes left such an impression on me.
Then there was Kyun, who I had previously been disappointed by but was amazed at the level of maturity and bravery she showed. I felt as if I finally got to know and understand her, and such a moment was precious. Jin is still scared and fearful as he battles with self-doubt and scars, but he is not alone.

so I reccomended this when I asked for suggestions for webtoons, a medium that i have never tried before. this was a fantastic thriller about a serial killer who forces his son to be his accomplice from a very young age. theres a love story in here, as well. which was handled really well I think considering the heavy subject matter. the ending was masterfully handled, in the last few episodes (chapters) there some absolute bombshells dropped, and it was just *chefs kiss*

Les tomes précédents ont été de vrai coup de coeur. Pas de surprise avec ce quatrième qui fut lui aussi un énorme coup de coeur. Ce webtoon ne cesse de monter en puissance et surtout ne cesse de me surprendre. J’attends chaque sortie avec tellement d’impatience. C’est une vraie révélation pour moi et je dévore les pages avec avidité. On est plongé dans cette histoire terrifiante et glaçante. On va de découverte en découverte, on ne cesse d’être surpris au fil des pages. Les rebondissements ne cessent de faire leur apparition pour rythmer à la perfection le récit. Ce que j’aime le plus avec ce webtoon c’est le fait que quand on croit avoir touché le bout, on se prend une claque dans la face et on n’a strictement rien vu venir.
Dans ce quatrième opus, on retrouve Jin, qui après avoir appréhendé la tueuse en série qui avait enlevé son amie, est devenu le héros du quartier. Cette notoriété soudaine lui donne confiance en lui et surtout lui donne le courage d’affronter son père. Il se sent carrément capable de lui tenir tête. Mais Jae, qui est dans la confidence du cas de Jin, le battre par la force ne sera pas suffisant. Il faut prouver ses crimes pour qu’il puisse payer. Jin n’a donc pas le choix, il doit retourner chez lui.. Et bien évidemment tout ce qui peut le rattacher aux crimes a disparu. La seule chose qu’il reste est la massue que lui utilise pour assommer les victimes. Quand il pense enfin avoir l’avantage, son père lui coupe les vivres..
On approfondi un peu plus la relation entre Jin et Gyeon. Même si on est en plein coeur d’une histoire affreusement horrible, je les trouve trop mignons ensemble et ça apporte une petite touche de joie dans ce thriller psychologique. Ils sont vraiment attachants malheureusement leur relation est loin d’être tranquille. Jin lui cache la vérité et parfois c’est difficile de réussir à garder ce secret. Il décide de lui avouer la vérité mais pas entièrement sauf que ce qu’il va dire va complètement induire en erreur Gyeon. Et ça va encore plus compliqué les choses… Jae essaye, quant à lui, de découvrir toute la vérité et se lance dans une enquête. Jin, m’a beaucoup touché dans ce tome. L’aspect psychologique est encore une fois approfondi et clairement c’est ce qui fait la force de ce titre pour moi. Jin va continuer de vivre des choses difficiles, clairement il se bat contre ses démons. Il se pose une tonne de question, essaye de se persuader qu’il n’avait en aucun cas le choix, il se demande aussi comment les autres vont le percevoir, surtout Gyeon. Il est vraiment mis à l’épreuve et on ne peut qu’être touché par lui. Le père de Jin est un des personnages le mieux construit de ce webtoon. Cet homme affreux, psychopathe et manipulateur alors que devant les autres on lui donnerait le bon dieu sans confession. C’est incroyable à quel point son personnage est dingue! Et ça dans tous les sens du terme clairement.
Ce que j’aime le plus dans ce webtoon c’est clairement le côté psychologique qui est parfaitement bien exploité. Plus on avance dans l’histoire plus on plonge dedans. Et quand on pense avoir touché le bout, on se prend un retournement de situation en pleine face et on ne cesse d’être surpris par les événements. Je me demande vraiment comment toute cette histoire va évoluer. J’ai tellement mais tellement hâte d’avoir le prochain tome! Le rythme est parfait, la psychologie des personnages est vraiment incroyable. Et clairement on va de surprises en surprise. C’est un énorme coup de coeur qui ne cesse de me surprendre. Je n’ai plus qu’à prendre mon mal en patience et attendre la sortie du prochain tome!

What a webtoon. Incredibly well done, as is everything else from this author. This reading experience is uncomfortable and unsettling, and unquestionably well done. Definitely deserves the psychological horror categorization it is tagged with. Within these pages you will find the entire emotional range represented, a solid story, and plenty of twists and turns. This series somehow strikes a perfect balance between storytelling that is grounded and realistic, yet absurd and unbelievable.

This series is one of the things I read that really drove home the idea that you need to finish a book before judging it. I have not DNF’d anything since finishing this series. For most of the reading experience up until the ending this was “fine”; good enough to keep going but not life-changing. The ending however elevated the entire series to the next level. Once I finished, I had to read the whole thing again, and it was even better the second time around.
The series as a whole is 5-stars, so I’m simply rating each volume that way. I don’t see the purpose to only reading part of the story.

Jin Seon le cuenta entre medias la verdad sobre su padre a Kyun, pero parece que esto solo ayudó a complicar mucho más las cosas de lo que ya estaban. Y parece que padre de Jin siempre está un paso adelante. ¿Que pasaría si ahora los roles intercambian a los ojos de los demás? ¿Que pasaría el padre de Jin le hizo una emboscada y gracia a esto todos crearán que está loco de la cabeza?
¿Que decir? Es maravillosamente adictivo, intrigante, misterioso y oscuro este cómic.
Como me gusta que me hagan dudar de mi moral y replanteármelo.
Una cosa: léanlo. Es lo mejor que les pasará en la vida. Creo que lo mejor qué pasó en la vida fue conocer a este autor

Ce tome était dingue !!
Jin prend les choses en main et trouve du soutien dans des personnes inespérées, son père qui lui tend le pire des pièges à un point où je me demandais vraiment comment il allait se sortir de là. La tension, l’action, mais omg 😱

uma leitura bastante fluída e q acaba por explorar diversos elementos bem interessantes, embora o final seja um tanto quanto decepcionante, se for pensar de um lado, no mais, é uma obra bastante satisfatória, q cumpre oq promete!

The female lead starts to grow on you a little but her personality still feels very thin. But the dad and Jin continue to be the best part of the webtoon.

Je pense vraiment que ce webtoon n'est pas fait pour moi mais je veux le fin mot de cette histoire, surtout qu'il ne me reste qu'un tome à lire mais au secours
