Major is a unique and beautiful book of poetry based around tarot cards from the major arcana (base deck of a stack of tarot cards). I would suggest reading what each card means before reading the poem that corresponds to it as this gives a much deeper understanding of the poem in relation to the card its focused on. This is a truly unique book and I loved every poem. Once or twice I felt the poems tug at my heart strings and I found myself tearing up at one point too.
If your looking for a different type of poetry or interested in tarot and poetry then I highly recommend this book!

this collection is SO precious. luck’s writing is bold, yet graceful. they take us on this journey of self reflection, and invite us to reflect on our own lives & self. (ps. trigger warnings are at the front of the book which is a genius move tbh). if i HAD TO choose, i’d say my favourite poem is “the lovers” (i’ve read it about 18 times now😄)

each poem is based on a tarot card from the major arcana (which i learned is the base deck of tarot cards. MAJOR 😮— it’s all coming together). this was such an interesting and effective parallel — i enjoyed learning about luck and their practice simultaneously:’)

after i had read it cover to cover, i read it a second time through, this time in the order that the poems/cards are numbered (which is different from the chronological order). having known basically nothing about tarot, i read about what each card meant before reading the corresponding poem. this gave the writing a whole new layer of complexity & meaning. it was such a unique experience!!

i loved the imagery of the tree and the phoenix that luck uses to refer to themself and describe the way that they see/interact with the world. the duality of being grounded yet free is really beautiful. the tree, which i imagined to represent their body/physical self, is strong and securely rooted to the earth, despite the external factors that cause them harm. the phoenix, which i imagined as their mind/soul, is in a constant cycle of death and rebirth —there are moments of disappointment and hurt followed by ones of peace and hope and wonder. by the end i felt as if i’d come full circle as well.

I usually don’t read poetry books but I told myself this year I would try different genres and I am glad I am doing that and that Luck’s book of poetry found its way to me. Her book is beautifully layout and her poetry flows off the pages. I have to say that some poetry I just don’t relate to so I choose not to read them but with this book I really enjoyed her poetry I understood what she was writing and could relate to her words. I think you will enjoy this authors work This would make a great gift to someone who loves poetry

This collection had me tearing up by page 3! It manages to be deal with very heavy topics while also being downright fun to read; I was either crying or grinning, depending on the page. Sometimes both. The way tarot is incorporated adds layers to each piece, and I found myself checking out a library book on the major arcana to try and pick up on those layers and get a deeper reading. Even though it stood as a powerful poetry collection on its own, with no prior knowledge of tarot, this element of the book made each poem feel delightfully like a puzzle, with no one right answer. The introduction even encourages the reader to "rip the pages out and shuffle them yourself." Usually I pick a poem or two I like from a collection, and rarely go back to read the rest, but this entire collection is one I want to re-read and re-analyze again and again. Beautiful, visceral writing in a brilliantly thought-out format.

I truly enjoyed this book of poetry. Luck's words are raw and emotional and force the reader to examine their own emotions and experiences.
